DESCRIPTION
The SomervilleMoms listserv was started in 2003 by moms attending a New Moms’ group in Somerville, Massachusetts. Since then, the listserv has grown to include over 1500 moms (and dads and expectant parents) in Somerville and surrounding communities. Today’s listserv covers a wide range of parenting topics, with a particular focus on Somerville.

MEMBERSHIP
All members of the Somerville parenting community are welcome to join the SomervilleMoms listserv. Prospective members should be parents / guardians or expectant parents living in – or otherwise connected to – the Somerville area. We recognize that parents in Somerville have an interest in children’s activities and events in neighboring communities (i.e. Arlington, Cambridge, Medford), and that parents living in other communities may want to be part of this virtual community. We welcome that participation, with the understanding that the listserv’s focus remains on Somerville.

SomervilleMoms is closed to individuals who seek primarily to promote events, services, or products, or to use the group for marketing and/or research. Moderators may be willing to forward such information and/or requests to the group. We are also closed to childcare providers unless they are also Somerville-area parents; again, moderators can forward such information to the group.

You will then receive an email asking you to send a brief biography to the moderator at SomervilleMoms-owner@yahoogroups.com.
New members are added to the listserv approximately once a week, after the moderator receives bios.
