* A Handbook of Devon Parishes: A Complete Guide for
Local and Family Historians
(Book - Amazon.co.uk) :
This handbook has been produced specifically to meet the
demands of the growing number of those interested in
local and family history. Its aim is to provide a single
source of information for those engaged in historical
research on the county of Devon regarding all its civil
parishes. Not content with using extant published
sources, the author has driven hundreds of miles
throughout the county in order to collect information, to
meet local historians, and to see for herself and record
the principal features of each parish. All 422 civil
parishes (plus Lundy and the Authorities of Exeter,
Plymouth and Torbay) are included alphabetically. Each
entry is accompanied by a concise historical overview of
the parish, details worthy of specific note, comparative
population figures between the 1901 census and today,
sources for further reading and, where they exist details
of local history groups and museums.
This book may also be available from Amazon.com and
Amazon.ca.

* Gulf Coast Colonials: A Compendium of French Families
in Early Eighteenth Century Louisiana
(Book - Genealogical.com) :
Compiled by an authority on Gulf Coast and lower
Mississippi Valley genealogy and history, this work
contains published vital records--births, baptisms,
marriages, and deaths--pertaining to the inhabitants of
the French parish of Mobile during the first half of the
eighteenth century. The records, which were kept by the
parish priest, are arranged here in alphabetical order by
family group, usually headed by the father, followed by
the spouse and then the children, who are listed in
relative order of birth. The surname of each spouse,
furthermore, can be found in the index at the back of
the volume. Since Mobile was a frontier outpost of the
French empire in North America, most of these records
pertain to officers and enlisted men who served in
Louisiana and Alabama. Other occupations referred to
include merchants, clergy, trappers, artisans, small
farmers, clerks, and slaves.
