He pulled a pipe down from the mantle and lit it with a taper of straw. He
leaned back, took a draw off the pipe and asked Jennifer, "Where did you
pick up this wonder?" Jennifer swallowed and said, "He flew into my room one
day."
********************************
The fire was low and Julian was passed out on the table as Duncan tapped out
his pipe. "A great house where every wish comes true." He looked at
Jennifer through furrowed brows, leaned back in his chair and sighed. "As
does every nightmare, so it would seem." He reached for the tobacco pouch on
the mantle and proceeded to fill the pipe again. His eyes pierced through
the smoke of the pipe as he lit it, staring once again at her. "And you,
sent back in time by a rogue Angel to get someone the house needs."
She looked back at him and nodded her head.
"Will the bird be all right?" the blacksmith asked.
"Julian? He'll have a massive hangover in the morning and be perfectly awful
until he gets a beer in him, then he'll be his usual obnoxious self."
"Then we'll leave him be. 'Tis too late to be callin' the council and I'll
be needing to think on these matters a mite more 'afore I'll be bringing it
to their attention- if I bring it to their attention."
Jennifer sent out a prayer, "Oh, Zophiel, I hope he's OK and I haven't made
a horrible mistake by telling him everything."
Duncan made a gesture to the bed in the corner of the room, "That's where
you'll be sleepin' tonight, I've still got work to do in the shop and have a
cot out there. "
