Before I begin my extensive letter, I just wanted to thank you for letting me write to you.  I consider this as part of my therapy and recovery from my ski accident 2/17/06.

OPENING TO PRE-XMAS LETTER

I have not been going out dancing like I did in the past, but I have been able to go to church at Central Christian Church.  Attending service each week is important to me and I thank God each evening for saving my life.  I use to go out dancing almost every night with a minimum of 3 times per week.  As you might already know, I have been using my ability to dance as part of my therapy.

SORRY FOR NOT SENDING YOU PHOTOS RECENTLY

I realized that I have not sent out photos of events that I have attended recently.  Dancing Dawn, the host and organizer of the Las Vegas Line Dancing, Swing & Country Dance Meetup Group, asked me about the photos that I was taking.  She has never seen my photos.  So, when I saw her at the 2009 Xmas Party Dance it reminded me that I had to spend time working on my photos. While I was there, I did not ever get a chance to ask her to dance.  She seemed so busy that I didn’t want to bother her.

COMING BACK TO LA FOR XMAS 12/18/09

I will be coming on back from Las Vegas to LA December 18, 2009.  I hope I get to see you personally to wish you a Merry Christmas.  However, I know that all your lives a very busy and we may not be able to meet up.  I put this letter in chronological order.  Halloween is the first topic.  Just look for the subject heading if you want to read up on that particular topic.

2009-10-26 KIRK’S VISIT TO LA FOR HALLOWEEN WEEKEND

OPENING:  KIRK VISIT LA HALLOWEEN WEEKEND

I hope you had a Happy Halloween.  I came back to LA from Vegas just in time to celebrate Halloween, but things have really changed from when I use to go out trick or treating as a kid.  Since I knew most of the 130 houses in our neighborhood being the local newspaper boy, I got to go nock on all the doors, but safety of all the kids is paramount now.

10/27/09 Physical Therapy (PT) IN VEGAS

I am now sitting in Debbie Lazarski PT office waiting room.  I have been working on my gait while walking.  I am still weaker on the right side, but this is so much further than being paralyzed on the right and unable to get out of bed when I was in the hospital.  Debbie was working on adjusting my orthotics after my ski accident.

I really do love taking photos.  I think I have not lost my photo eye, but I will let you be the judge of that.  This shot was taken from near the top floor of the Bellagio Hotel where I got to stay with my Dad who was taking a Real Estate investment class.  He is a Real Estate agent and also sells auto and homeowners insurance.  I am so fortunate to have such a great father who took care of my finances when I was unable to.  He will take care of your finances too.  So if you need a Real Estate Agent in California please look up my Dad, Richard C. Now where was I?  That’s right, a photo I took from my Dad’s hotel room while he was attending a real estate investment seminar.

Now, all that I have to do is remember how to use my SLR camera.  In this shot I had to open up the aperture as wide as possible and then open the shutter for a few seconds.  (RATS, I wish I could remember everything about taking pictures!)

10/29/09 THURDAY LINDY GROOVE HALLOWEEN

I was planning to visit Lindy Groove for their Haunted Halloween Ball in Pasadena, but I was too tired out physically.  Now, after my ski accident, I need to take a nap and rest up before going out dancing. (RATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

10/30/09 FRIDAY Dr. Helen Kuo; BARBARA MORRISON IN BEVERLY HILLS

Before going out dancing, that day I went to see Dr. Helen Kuo, DPM.  Afterwards, I got to enjoy Barbara Morrison singing at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.  There was only carpet, but swing dancers can make a dance floor between the tables and chairs.  Take a look at the photos and you will see this is what we did.

10/31/09 SATURDAY HALLOWEEN

Halloween evening I walked over to Hope Chapel in Hermosa Beach for their Harvest Festival.  It was a long walk and my stamina is a lot lower than before my accident.  I recall being in the Hope Chapel Photo Ministry when they didn’t use digital cameras, but now things have gone all digital.

11/1/09 SUNDAY SOUTH BAY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

I went to visit Tim Quon’s church, South Bay Presbyterian Church.  It was nice to see some familiar faces from many years ago.  I think my long term memory is pretty good.  It is my short term memory that is bad.  I wanted to hear Tim perform in the worship team, but he was not performing.

11/1/09 Dancing Photos at The (Starting) Gate

I went with Debbie Wastling to “The Starting Gate,” which has been renamed “The Gate.”  Initially, I only knew that I was going to some swing dance event, but now I recall having dances here before and that is after my ski accident.  My memory is getting better.  I don’t remember all the 200 people that came to my dance benefit, but I do know that it was organized by Debbie Wastling.  Hm…was it 100 or 200?  (Rats, Bad Memory.)

Here are some photos of me doing Pilates at College of Southern Nevada (CSN).  I can still remember walking into the Pilates class and the instructor Darcie Osborne told me that I could sign up for a class the next semester.  That was two years ago and I have progressed both physically and mentally.  Take a look at the photos I got doing Pilates.

USA DANCE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY

BEFORE USA DANCE AT KING RANCH, MEXICAN SUPERMARKET

My Mom dropped me off 3 hours early at Dance Fitness and Sport for the USA Dance Annual Xmas Party.  I walked across the street to the local Mexican supermarket.  I knew I was in a different neighborhood because all the signs were in Spanish and the lady on the other side of the food counter spoke to me in Spanish.  I think she was asking me what I wanted, but I could not understand.  I had to remember what to say in Spanish.  “Una momento por favor.” A moment please, I said in my poor Spanish.  I was pondering what to eat for dinner.  It was already 5:30 PM.  I decided on Combo de Pecodo Fritos con Arroz y Frijoles (combination of fish fried with rice and beans, for those of you who do not speak Spanish.).  What still seem strange is that I still recall my Spanish, which I think is in my long term memory.  I knew that rice was “arroz” and beans were frijoles, but all I caught was the word “blanco.”  Well, the lady was asking me if I wanted yellow rice or white rice.  I had to ask the senor next to me to translate.  I still don’t recall the word for yellow.   Well, I got to eat dinner right in the supermarket.  They had tables right next to the cashier.

I got a cup of coffee at Dunkin Donuts just around the corner one hour before the holiday dance began at 7pm.

It was nice to do some Cha Cha, Salsa, and Swing.  I was not familiar with the other ballroom dances and the lesson in Viennese Waltz was extremely hard.  I had to fall back on things that I knew and had done a lot of before my ski accident.  Here are the photos I took at the dance:

FAMILIAR FACES AT USA DANCE

I had a nice time seeing so many familiar faces from the past.  I got to see the following people:

1.       Christina who use to come pick me up and take me to the Aruba to go swing dancing

2.       Al who use to pick me up and take me over also the Aruba

3.       Leslie who I knew from ballroom dancing at Dance Charisam.

I expected to see Christina and Al who are both USA Dance officers, but it was a pleasant surprise to see Leslie.  I also got to meet some new people, but I cannot remember their names.  (Bad SHORT TERM MEMORY, BAD!)  I only got Monica, who was working the front desk, because I had her write down her name and give it to me……………maybe that is what I have to do.

SPECIAL DAY – MY DADS BIRTHDAY FALLS ON THANKGIVING DAY

This year is a very big birthday for my Dad.  I won’t say how old he is, but I wish I reach a ripe old age as him. , that is old.  (Hmm…..does that make me old too?  I think you are only as old as you feel and I feel very young.)  As a special favor to me, can you give my Dad a call at (310) 487-9605 if you are going to buy or sell real estate.  Just give him a call and he will take care of you just like he took care of my finances while I was in the hospital.  He really takes care of his client’s finances and you can really trust him.  My Dad is now a Farmers Insurance agent and you can now see him for auto and homeowners insurance too.

UNCLE TOM PASSED AWAY AFTER HEAD INJURY

My Uncle Tom in Visalia just passed away after a fall off a ladder and hitting his head.  Initially he felt alright just like I did after my ski accident.  Then his brain expanded and the hospital did not have a Neurosurgeon on hand.  He had to be taken to another hospital, but it was too late.  My parents just got back from the funereal on Sunday 11/23/09.

THANKSGIVING EVERY DAY

I give thanks to God every evening for being alive and breathing after my ski accident 2/17/06.  After my Dreamweaver class, I just updated my ski accident web site located at:

I wish my memory was better, but with the passing away of my Uncle last week from falling off a ladder and a resultant TBI, it puts things into perspective.

KIRK COMPLETED DREAMWEAVER CLASS FALL 2009

I have really been working hard on relearning how to design web sites.  Even though I must have known how to do many things before in the past, I forgot them after my accident.  I bought Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 for this class.  This amazing software program writes the HTML code for you.  I just took the very first class on Dreamweave, but I will let you be the judge of my final project.

MY BROTHERS COMING TO LAS VEGAS

My brothers Rick and Perry are coming into Las Vegas to celebrate Thanksgiving and my Dads birthday.  At 9 PM last night, a very good dance friend, Vicki Olivadoti, called while listening to a good live band playing here in Las Vegas.  She is in town from LA visiting her daughter in Las Vegas.  Of course, hearing good music, she was thinking that it was also good music to dance to.  However, nobody was around to dance with.  It is just as well I did join her because I felt tired out and it was only 9 PM.  I will have to take a nap before going out dancing this Tuesday 11/24/09 with Vicki Olivadoti.

I spent many days writing my Essay on Frankie Manning's Life Compared to Kirk Tuey's.  I even enjoy reading it.  It is almost like reading it for the first time.

FUTURE SPRING 2010

I was planning on concentrating on the following things in Spring 2010:

·         Ballroom Dance to become a Dance Host

·         Quicken 2009 Finances

·         Pilates II Class at CSN

Dance Host

I am going to concentrate on my ballroom dance.  Take a look at the web links concentrating on Kirk Tuey and Dance.  I spent many weeks working on my life related to Dance.  Looking at my life, I now realize how much a part of dance is in my life.  I still don’t have a web video of me dancing Ballroom, but you can see me only 5 months after my ski accident and being in a coma at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55T3aExylsY.  Maybe I can get my Mom to post a video of me dancing ballroom.

·         Cha Cha

·         Rumba.

Quicken

Each month I want to review with my Dad my Quicken File.  I think I use to be very good in Quicken.  I will look up Quicken classes online and start to rehab my mind.

Pilates II Class

I am still taking my Pilates II class.  This is my only physical rehab besides walking.

Yoga

I had to lay off doing yoga twice a week.  My left shoulder impingement has gotten better.

I got to celebrate VZ Ballroom Academy’s 1 Year Anniversary.  I can recall going to the initial opening dance party and I don’t realize that a year has passed already.  I went back into my photos and searched a whole year ago and sure enough I had the photos.

Couldn’t Make it To Las Vegas Lindy Exchange,. Thinking of Swing Camp Laughlin?

I still don’t know if I can make it to Swing Camp Laughlin since I need a ride.  Not driving is a real pain.  Last weekend I was studying and too tired out to make it to the Las Vegas Lindy Exchange.  I still need to do some more studying.  I guess I have to limit myself physically.  Maybe if I can find a ride to go on down to Laughlin and hear "Stompy Jones" tomorrow night 10/10/09.

10/9/09 Aruba

Tonight 10/9/09 I was going to join my brother Laney and go out swing dancing at the Aruba.  My brother Laney has flown in all the way from Virginia and is attending training.  Laney will give me a ride over to the Aruba, but he is leaving tomorrow and flying back to Virginia.

I know it has been a while since I last updated you, but my Laptop hard disk went bad and I had to recover to my original hard disk.  I sent my laptop back to the manufacturer to replace the hard disk and it has taken me a while to reload over 15 programs back on.  I had to reload all my software before uploading photos.  I now realize how many photos I have taken over the years since I have not sent any photo links out because my computer went bad.  I know some of you have been waiting a long time for my photos.  Attached below are several links to photos I uploaded.

2009-10-06 Thinking Back of my Birthday Bug

10/6/09 My Birthday Today

Today, 10/6/09, I went to my Pilates class at 1 PM and I am going to my Dreamweaver class at 5:30 PM.  This being my birthday 10/6/09 I was looking at where I was 4 years ago.  I use to go out “bug” lobster diving each year with my old roommate Greg DeLamare.  Here are photos of my last “bug” trip four years ago.  Has it already been four years since these photos were taken?  I really have lost track of time.
