About Working Bikes Cooperative:



The Working Bikes Cooperative is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower communities by engaging in activities that promote environmentalism, public health, and human equality. The Working Bikes coop recycles bicycles locally and delivers them to communities in need at low cost to provide sustainable development within their communities. Cooperative members organize through concepts of volunteerism, collective decision making, self-empowerment, cooperative learning, and cultural diversity.

Since its inception in 2001, the Working Bikes Cooperative has shipped over 20,000 bikes and parts to Nicaragua, Guatemala, Cuba, Peru, Ghana, Tanzania, Angola and Kenya. We also provide hundreds of bikes to local Chicago area nonprofits to assist the homeless and resettled refugees. Working Bikes is always looking for new recipients of our bikes and/or parts.
