The Faculty of Nursing was established in 1972 by a Royal Decree. It was the first Faculty in Jordan to offer a Bachelor degree in Nursing. Over the past years, the Faculty witnessed a steady expansion and growth. In 1982, it was the first, also, to establish a nursing education program at the graduate level.

In addition, the Faculty was also the first Faculty to offer a bridging program for graduates of diploma and associate degree nursing programs to complete their Bachelor degree in nursing.

The Faculty believes that the professional nurse needs to be equipped with advanced knowledge and specialized skills in order to face the changing health care delivery system, the continuing advances in technology, the increasing complexity of health services and the changing health care needs of persons. It is to this end that the Faculty has established its nursing education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Bachelor program prepares nurses for the entry level to professional practice, while the graduate program builds upon these competencies and those developed during the process of professional practice. The Master's program, on the other hand, prepares professional nurses for leadership roles both in education and clinical specialization.
