Hi,
I changed my password recently and I have not been able to access my email
since. I get this message- "There was a problem accessing your account. Please
try again in a moment.
Error #1" I have tried many times to no avail. I am able to sign in to messenger
, but cannot open any emails . I would really appreciate any help as I am
totally dependent on this email id.
Thanks a lot,
Ramakrishna Sastry

Jonik,

Yes you can and it’s surprisingly easy to do. In your gmail account you want to go to settings and then the Accounts and Import tab. On that page you’ll find a section entitled Import Mail and Contacts. In that section is Import from another address. Click on that button and follow the screens to set this process up. There is also a Learn More icon next to the button which you should look at.

There are a lot of settings, and most with instructions, that come with gmail. I personally have done the above to get my email from Yahoo to Google. I then continue on with the gmail tab Forwarding and POP/IMAP, where I have settings such that my email from Google goes to my Outlook 2007 account. So any email that comes into Yahoo gets exported to Google and then POP’d to Outlook. I no longer have to look at the new Yahoo or deal with any of the changes and problems that have plagued Yahoo in recent months.

Send me an email off-list if you have any other questions.

Gil

in the Uk we can't send text messages via Yahoo Mail. You may want to revert your nationality back to USA. This should give you access to text messages again while keeping the My Social Networks app in the aplications list.

You'll need to get Yahoo Mail Plus for that, which is $20/yr.

Hi Cindy,

I take “not representative of the general population at Yahoo” to mean that those in this group are a little or a lot more savvy about Yahoo and computers than the majority of people. There are some people that I know who just “live with” the changes and problems Yahoo has been having recently. They have no real desire to dig into the workings of Yahoo or Yahoo Mail to customize them to their liking. Even my wife, who knows a fair amount about Yahoo and computers in general, did not have several things working the way she hoped. Things that I knew, possibly coming from this group, other groups, or general websites, allowed me to help her get things running a little more efficiently and personalized.

And that last statement reaffirms my “take” on the statement - this group (and others) have some very knowledgeable people who are willing to share that knowledge with others. So, from me at least, thank you!

you might well be correct, as I'm not aware about how yahoo has supported developers in the past. Yet nevertheless, that shouldn't stop a load of in-house apps coming - yahoo news, sports, travel, etc... just like there have been for the Yahoo front page. So it may be a technical thing, or perhaps a shift in emphasis. I guess the front page is worth more advertising money cos non-yahoo members can also visit, whereas yahoo mail is only viewed (by the still large) group of mail subscribers.

I would hazzard a guess here:
Maybe not enough developers are keen to supply Yahoo with free labor? Yahoo does not have the best track record when it comes to rewarding (recognizing) efforts by its own members.

Agree with you that Zoho is currently probably the best online office suite. However it's also fair to say that the requirements for people who would use these online apps may not be as high as say for using Office to produce official professional documents (not including the issue of working on confidential information online). Therefore if yahoo, along with Zimbra, are working on their own mildly inferior office app, I'd have no problem with that.

The more general question of not enough apps, is intriguing. I was hoping for an iphone-like growth in apps. I wonder why this hasn't happened- after all companies would guarantee themselves massive exposure to the large number of yahoo mail users. Shopping sites are a very good example of this. Possibly there may be financial issues or perhaps it's technically difficult to create apps whilst simultaneously not compromising mail functionality. On that, I have no idea.

just think about, google suffers so many ressources to build their online office (recently they bought etherpad i.e.).

But yahoo mail now has got a big advantage here, since yahoo mail allows apps.....
so please someone develop a zoho app for ymail, containing zoho writer, notebook, powerpint, spreadsheet and maybe even zoho chat.

please just think about it. everyone can be able using zoho apps in yahoo mail to chat with the msn, icq, aol, gtalk networks....
this suits exactly the strategy of the yahoo homepage, allowing to access other websites , but staying still on the yahoo website...

i beg you, just develep such a zoho app, and you will kick gmails ass

I've never seen what you describe, so it's something in your computer.
The video card is a piece of hardware in your computer that provides the
display on your monitor. If it's not working properly, you'll notice
issues such as you're seeing in Yahoo Mail. Ask someone to replace it
for you, & see if that helps. Firefox is by far NOT an inferior product.
I don't have any issues with it, & millions of other users don't, either.

"The new Yahoo mail has become incredibly slow with all the moving ads, contacts, messenger and whatnot, all competing to load up while my mail is opening. I have to wait forever to compose an email.

" I visit my Yahoo mail even less regularly than I used to, and dread my next visit every time it is due. Please remember, not everyone owns the latest hardware with tons of computing power - please don't forget your bread and butter users who are most likely not represented in this ymail Group."

i am not a big fan of yahoo mail. however, this seems odd. i have mail on almost all the big mail providers and yahoo mail is the fastest of the lot. gmail is the slowest for sure.

i am using ad blocking though. but in any case, ads are served differently from your mail application to the browser. I dont think that the mail application load time is tied up with the ads. I would like to believe that the javascript of the mail application is loaded first and the ads continue to load and change after wards.

Also, i wonder whether yahoo mail caches some parts of the application in the browser? it seems that if you have opened yahoo mail once, the next time it opens it is much faster.

I have no idea what a flaky video card is

Yahoo Mail only works in Mozilla Firefox
Fire Fox however is an inferior product.

Yahoo Technicians must be tinkering with the
Yahoo Mail Programme and that is why it no longer
works in Crazy Browser and internet Explorer , even
after I updated to Explorer 8 .

Is very frustrating to have to try and hit delete
button while the delete button is flickering and
sometimes I hit it twice or it misfires and goes up
into the ad banner area .

Perhaps Yahoo have done this on purpose so that we
hit their ad banners so they make more money .

Certain features of the Gmail labs even break the webmail.

This is the case of Picnik (great app! btw) and Sobees, which I uninstall for I
certainly dont agree with their Silverlight requirement (not working on Chrome
anyway)

Yeah, load times have improved definitely in the new version. It can be slow on old browsers slow - have to use internet explorer 6 at work.

I get the Social Networks app to work without a problem in Chrome. How come the objection to Silverlight? Isn't it just like needing Flash plugin for rest of mail app?
