Do you know of any manga or anime that combine the vampire and yuri genres, even
in a with-googles way?

Well, if you're prepared to apply goggles then the Vampire Princess
Miyu TV series would probably count. (I'd recommend watching the OVAs
too; not for yuri - just because they're rather good.) The DVDs might
be hard to get hold of by now, mind.

Natsuneko published a one-shot in Yuri Hime issue 11 about a woman who seeks revenge against the vampire who killed her father, only to fall in love with her. Sadly, it hasn't been collected into a tankoubon. (Haven't seen anything by Natsuneko in a while, actually.)

Erm...that's all I can think of. This isn't an anime or manga example, but (at the risk of going off-topic) have you read Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla? If you haven't, you should. It's the great-grandmother of lesbian vampire stories, and it's very good. (If you like Carmilla, you should read the poem that set a precedent for it, Samuel Taylor Coleridge's Christabel .) Heh, excuse my literary geeking. ^_^

Carmilla id look into that its arguably the first major vampire story. Id be
surprised if there hasn't been at least some yuri done with it.

There are so many vampire manga/anime stories, but I would think that combining
yuri and vampires would be something that someone would have come up with before
now. For example, the female vampires in "Vampire Knight," often talk about how
pure young female humans are so "yummy." Sanami Matoh crossed vampires w/ yaoi
in her "Full Moon" manga, but that's the only yaoi-related vampire story I know
of, too.

Right now there are *three* all-Yuri doujinshi events in Japan, Girls Love Fest
(in Tokyo, here's my report:
http://okazu.blogspot.com/2011/09/girls-love-festival-report.html), Maiden's
Garden (I'll be going next November) and Yuribu (haven't made it yet,) which is
part of Comitia, a larger event.

Yuribu posted a commercial for the even on Youtube. You might want to like it
for them and let them know that there are foreign fans who wish it well!

Black Rock Shooter, Episode 1 is up on Nico Nico Douga subbed (you may need to
register, and the site is in Japanese.) If you've seen it, what did you think?

I liked it. It had a lot of similarities to Madoka in story-telling style
(including the parallel worlds/different art). Provided the tell me a whole
story and not a prelude or piece of one, I think I'll like it. ^_^

That's the PR. Here's the real message. I need your help.

Folks who are not in North America are blocked from this and I think it's a BAD
idea. I am trying to convince the folks at JManga that a globally accessible
Yuri portal would be a GOOD idea. You can help simply by contacting JManga and
letting them know what country you are from and that you would *love* to be able
to access their Yuri manga.

You can contact JManga:

On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jmanga.official

On their website: http://www.jmanga.com/contact

On Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/JManga_official

Of course, please be polite. Express your interest in accessing Yuri manga. Even
if you get a "we can't do that at this time" email, please don't get
discouraged.

Also, fans in North America, you can help too. Send a message to JManga telling
them how you support JManga's efforts in getting Yuri to a global audience.

I think we can make this change, if we work together!

It definitely won't hurt and it may very well help.

Up until today, they were responding with "we don't have this available at this
time" but today they switched to "Due to demand, we're looking into this."

It may not sound like a big switch, but it is.

This is a good time to remind everyone that JManga isn't the decision maker in
this case, so it may be a while before anything changes, but I'm confident that
with continued pressure (in the form of requests for access) we can make our
case.

Cheers,

I've seen the first three episodes. Symphogear has two yuri characters. Tsubasa, an idol, loves her singing partner Kanade. When aliens attack at their concert and they transform into magical girl-type fighters, Kanade dies saving a girl named Hibiki. When Kanade died and her transforming "relic" shattered, shards of it were embedded in Hibiki's chest. Two years later, Tsubasa, still an idol, is attending the same school as Hibiki and her best friend/roommate Miku. (Poor Miku likes Hibiki. At the beginning of episode 1, we see that Hibiki will eventually die. Doesn't bother me since she's the least likeable character.) Aliens attack again, and because of the relic pieces in her chest, Hibiki transforms into the battle armor Kanade used. Much to Tsubasa's chagrin, she and Hibiki are now fighting partners.

Also, they activate their battle armor by singing dance music. :-)

JManga continues their investment in Yuri with Yamaji Ebine's Love My Life

Aside from the obvious set-up of Marika and Chiaki (Nadesico type/genki-type)
apparently in the original novels, Jenny and Lynn (the Yacht club president and
vice president) are a couple. In the OP, there is one group shot where Jenny and
Lynn are holding hands. Yes, one has to look carefully. (I can't believe I said
that...) Someone mentioned it to me, and I confirm that indeed, yes, that frame
does exist.

I've got the first novel in my inbox, so as soon as I have a chance to read it,
I'll get back to you, but I will say this - Jenny and Lynn pinged my Yuridar
even with no apparent anything between them. ^_^

According to Okazu comments, when the anime was announced, the directive came
down, "no romance" and the fans reacted, "Even Jenny and Lynn???" So apparently
they believe they are together.

Cheers,

Erica

Seems to show some of the couples or starting relationships. If so the last

first impression.

From the overall tone I am getting this doesn't seem to be looking too bad.

Please feel free to suggest titles if I've missed anything, but read the

Utena (whole series, along with Adolescence volume) was relased in Poland (Waneko) and Germany (Carlsen Comics). Chirallity was relased in Poland (JPFantastica).

To give folks an idea of what's available where, I've put together a list of Yuri manga that's available outside Japan. The list includes titles, countries and formats available.

Please feel free to suggest titles if I've missed anything, but read the guidelines first. I'm not adding manga that has Yuri as a side story or a fetish or a feature. And only manga, no anime. ^_^

Enjoy!

Cheers,

Erica

Are any of those still in print? That list (as I state) is in print titles only.

If so, send me a link to a publisher or distributor site and I'll add them.
(Just trying to keep the list focused.) ^_^

Cheers,

Erica

So, this is an interesting request.

On Facebook or Twitter, JManga *wants* you to tell them that you want global
access for their manga. If you're on Facebook, you can comment on this
https://www.facebook.com/jmanga.official/posts/252765888137501

or RT this Twitter post: @JManga ATTN: If you would like to make #JManga
available worldwide, RT, like, or reply to this post!

or email them at feedback@...

This is your chance to be heard. Don't waste it! ^_^

Cheers,

Erica
