Description

Welcome to the Yahoo! Z Scale Fabrication Group! This is the place to come to share info on building techniques specific to Z scale (1:220) model railroad locomotives, rolling stock, track, turnouts, buildings, signalling and track-side structures, scenery, etc. Techniques include scratch-built, kit-bashing and computer-aided techniques such as Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Numerical Control (CNC). There is relatively little detailed info on the techniques unique, or most suited, to Z scale, which requires attention to detail and tolerances, optical magnification, and high-precision tools and jigs. Your host and moderator is Jim Manley, an ocean (wet mechanical) engineer and software engineer who has been building model railroads for over 40 years in O-27, HO, N and Z scales.

Feel free to ask any question, since there are no dumb questions, just those not asked. If you are an expert, please share your experiences with the group. We welcome participation by manufacturers, but we ask that commercial info be limited to Z scale product and discount announcements (descriptions and prices). Spam will be removed from the mailing list and senders will be blocked from further access to the site.

We are seeking links to other sites concerning related interests, such as modeling in other scales, scratch-building, kit-bashing, architectural modeling, collectible miniatures, doll house accessories, jewelry fabrication, CAD data generation, CNC machining, etc. Z scale modeling is a very cross-disciplinary hobby, so post anything appropriate, as long as it is related in some way to Z scale model railroading fabrication techniques.

Again, welcome, we hope this site is useful to you, and good luck with construction of your Z scale layout!
