Hello Everyone,

Unfortunately we lost one of the girls from the Bourne house due to personal circumstances recently.  We are considering refilling the position as a half-year position where the person would start around the second week of January. We’re hoping that if we do refill the position we can bring in someone with a strong environmental background so that they can hit the ground running and can jump right into things with their fellow members.

If you yourself are interested or if you know someone who you think might be then please contact me by December 2nd.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Thanksgiving.

Thanks,

APCC Seeks Interns for 2012

InternsOne of APCC's most important missions is to provide practical environmental learning opportunities and enrichment for the next generation of scientists, engineers, lawyers, planners, ecologists and ethicists. Primarily through the generosity of members like you, APCC offers paid internship opportunities for students who have a passion for preserving the environment. If you know of a deserving, qualified student (we have opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate level students), please direct them to our website where they can learn about the opportunities and how to apply. This year, through your generosity, APCC will have our first Maggie Geist intern, named in honor of our former Executive Director.

Learn more about our Internship Program.

If you are interested in providing housing for an intern this summer, please give me a call at 508-362-4226.

You can also use our website to
make an additional donation to the intern program. It would be fantastic if we can make the Geist intern a perpetual program like APCC's Whitlock Internship, which has provided invaluable experience for numerous talented individuals while producing tremendous benefits for Cape Cod.

Please feel free to forward this message along to anyone who might have an interest.

Sincerely,
Ed's Signature

Subject: Announcing 2012 positions with MassLIFT-AmeriCorps

Hi Amanda,

We have just started up our member recruitment for MassLIFT’s 2012 service year.   Davis Brush, our current member who has also served with AmeriCorps Cape Cod, encouraged me to contact you with our announcement of position openings in case any of your current members or alumns might be interested in second year of service and opportunity to build on skills that they have gained through AmeriCorps CapeCod and to  learn skills specific to land trust conservation work.    I also wanted to note that next year, we have two MassLIFT partners -  Buzzards Bay Coalition and Wildlands Trust, that will be recruiting members for service in southeastern Massachusetts.   Their position descriptions will be posted on their websites as well as on our program’s webpages:   www.mountgrace.org/masslift-americorps.

I have copied below the long version of our announcement.  If you think any of your members may be interested, we’d be very grateful if you could pass this information on to them.   If you want further information,  please feel free to call.

Thanks for considering!

Dee Robbins

Program Manager,  MassLIFT-AmeriCorps

Position Announcement

The Massachusetts Land Initiative for Tomorrow (MassLIFT) AmeriCorps program is seeking conservation enthusiasts to apply for our 2012 service positions.

MassLIFT-AmeriCorps was initiated in 2010 and is managed by Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust.  Our program is a collaborative effort of regional conservation groups to meet critical community needs for land and watershed protection, stewardship of protected lands, conservation outreach and education, and service learning that engages young people in conservation.

Twenty AmeriCorps members serve with MassLIFT each year.  Our members serve in one of four positions: land steward, regional conservationist, service learning coordinator, or community outreach coordinator. Specific service responsibilities vary between host sites, but the following general position descriptions serve as a guide:

Service Learning Coordinator:   AmeriCorps members serving as Service Learning Coordinators design and lead projects that engage youth in education and service activities supporting the protection and stewardship of farms, forests, wildlife habitats, water resources, community gardens, and parks.

Regional Conservationist:  AmeriCorps members serving as regional conservationists help identify promising land protection projects; assist with the initiation and implementation of conservation projects; and help volunteer local land trusts and volunteer municipal committees with conservation initiatives and landowner outreach.

Community Outreach Coordinator:  AmeriCorps members serving as Outreach Coordinators help increase local interest and participation in land conservation by engaging community groups in projects such as creating and maintaining trails and community gardens, and assisting with stewardship tasks on protected lands. They also develop informational materials; give public presentations; and plan outreach events such as nature walks and wildlife tracking forays on protected lands.

Land Steward:  AmeriCorps members serving as land stewards document the wildlife habitats, soils, water resources, and other important natural and cultural resources protected on conserved lands (GIS skills are usually required). They also conduct annual monitoring visits, complete stewardship reports; and engage community volunteers in stewardship tasks such as trail maintenance, invasive species removal, natural resource inventories, and monitoring lands protected with conservation restrictions.

These are full-time positions, averaging 35 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends.  They come with stipends up to $12,400 for the year, health insurance, and the potential to earn a $5,550 education award upon successful completion of 1,700 hours and 11.5 months of service.  Housing is not included, and members must have access to reliable transportation.

The following regional land trusts and conservation organizations will be hosting MassLIFT-AmeriCorps members in our 2012 program:  Buzzards Bay Coalition, East Quabbin Land Trust, Essex County Greenbelt Association, Franklin Land Trust, Groundwork Lawrence, Hilltown Land Trust, Kestrel Land Trust, Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust, Nashua River Watershed Association, Sudbury Valley Trustees, and Wildlands Trust.  Appalachian Mountain Club-Berkshires and Greenagers will share the assistance of a Service Learning Coordinator; and the Connecticut River Watershed Council and Millers River Watershed Council will share the services of a Community Outreach Coordinator.

Our 2012 service term runs from September 11, 2012 to August 23, 2013.

Application instructions, position descriptions, and further information about MassLIFT-AmeriCorps can be found on the Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust website: www.mountgrace.org/masslift-americorps  (Click on Join MassLIFT) and on the web pages of other MassLIFT host sites.

The application deadline for our 2012 program is June 14, 2012.  Early applications are highly encouraged as interviews will begin June 10, 2012.  Late applications will be accepted and reviewed on an as needed basis.

Dear Amanda,

Lauren McKean at the Cape Cod National Seashore suggested I send you the attached scope of work for the ARM field research project the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies is bidding on.   In short, the project is  designed to measure aerosol radiation in the atmosphere, and the work involves launching weather balloons 4 times a day  from the Highlands Center location in Truro.  Launch times are 6:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., with operators staying from one hour before launch to one hour after launch, recording associated data and packing and unpacking equipment.

If we're selected we'd have a team of maybe 8 people to rotate shifts.

The project begins July 2, with a mandatory and paid training session the week before, and runs one year.

Perhaps you could post and/or send on to anyone you think might be interested. You and/or others can contact me with any questions.

Thanks,

Kathy Shorr

Dear Amanda,

UTEC is growing and we want you to be a part of it!  We have job openings in various departments waiting for the perfect candidate. Visit our website for the full listing!  Here are our current open positions:

We're looking for a dynamic development professional ready to step into a vibrant development team and help us grow even more. Over the past five years, UTEC's budget has more than doubled. Today our goals are focused on sustaining that funding and further expanding and diversifying our funding sources.

Click on the link above to view the full description.  Please email your thoughtful cover letter, resume, and three references to jobs@... with "Director of Development" in the subject line.

UTEC seeks a strong writer, fundraising or nonprofit experience preferred, who can manage an aggressive schedule of foundation grants and government contracts. Strong desire to be a part of a growing, community-focused team a must!

Looking for a job to connect those young people most overlooked to the services they may be in need of, specifically around Education, Employment, and Case management?  Join us!  This position involves interviewing clients to identify problems, determining assistance needed, creating service plans and referring them to the appropriate agency and follow-up service.

Clink on the link above to view the full description.  Please email resume and cover letter to JuanCarlos Rivera at juan@....

UTEC receives funding from a variety of sources.  Historically, most of this funding has come from grants, contracts, and foundations.  A small percentage of our funds currently come from individuals and smaller private sources.  It is our goal to solidify and increase our presence with individual donors through a variety of creative and innovative stewardship activities and smaller events. We are looking for a passionate, organized, independent individual looking for an exciting entry level opportunity into the world of development!

Click on the link above for the full description.  Candidates should send a resume, cover letter, and the names of three references to Kait Schlegel at kschlegel@....

UTEC is a data- and outcomes-driven organization always seeking to expand its capacity to use data for reflective practice and program refinement.  UTEC's evaluation work consists of three major areas: internal documentation and reporting using Efforts to Outcomes (ETO), a web-based database for UTEC staff to record their work; external partnerships with evaluators; and primary and secondary research on youth development practices.  We are looking for a critical and systems thinker who can assist in all three areas. Additionally, this person will work with development staff to best integrate the stories of our impact through organizing fundraising activities and smaller events.

Click on the link above for the full description.  Candidates should send a resume, cover letter, and the names of three references to Zenub Kakli, Ed.D. at zkakli@....

UTEC is now accepting applicants for the AmeriCorps program to join us for a ten month commitment of AmeriCorps service. During this time, they will promote peace, positivity, and empowerment to youth in the Lowell area as part of the Youth Empowerment Corps. Corps Members engage in a variety of responsibilities and are submerged in the UTEC culture starting from day one. Members serve hands-on with youth to produce individual and group projects in the areas of education, outreach, enrichment, organizing, or workforce departments.

About Us

UTEC's mission is to ignite and nurture the ambition of Lowell's most disconnected young people to trade violence and poverty for social and economic success.

UTEC's nationally recognized model begins with intensive street outreach and gang peacemaking, reaching out to the most disconnected youth by meeting them "where they're at." UTEC engages youth in workforce development and alternative education. Social justice and civic engagement are embedded in all programming, with special emphasis in our youth-led grassroots organizing, locally and statewide.

On behalf of all our staff, I hope you will consider joining our team!

Sincerely,

Gregg Croteau

Executive Director
