WHY DOES ISLAM FOCUS ON JIHAD

JIHAD: This is the most misunderstood term by the
non-Muslims due to a section of mischievous media who grab up every opportunity
to malign Islam, and the lethargic Muslim community who are not much active in
propagation of Islam. By definition JIHAD means TO STRIVE . In Islamic shariah
jihad means to struggle, to strive and put lot of effort to establish the
Religion of Allah. Jihad doesn’t always mean Qital i.e. to kill, neither all
qital (killing) is consider as jihad. The Quran describes in many places that
such Qital which is not done according to the command of Allah is fitna.

And strive in the way of Allah (do jihad) the way it ought to be done.
(Surah Hajj: 78)

   DIFFERENT WAYS OF JIHAD:

Jihad by Self : This is the jihad when a person works hard
spending his time, energy to promote Islam in any form, either to help some one
get justice, or speak against a tyrant ruler, or run from pillar to post to help
a needy. Even the scholars who give lectures on Islam, to impart proper
understanding of Islam , are supposed to be doing jihad.

Jihad by wealth: Jihad can be even done by wealth. The Qur’an
rightly guides its followers to do jihad wealth and appreciate them as sincere
believers,: Who strives (does jihad) with their wealth.
(Surah Hujarat:15)

Jihad in battle field: Fight against those who fight against you and do not
commit excess , for indeed Allah does not like those who commit excess.
(Surah Nisa: )

Fight for those who are weak, oppressed, men, women and children.
(Surah Nisa:75)

BUT

If the enemy incline towards peace, do thou also incline towards peace and
trust Allah.

(Surah Anfal : 61)

ALSO

If any one of the pagans seek from thee asylum, grant it to him so that he
may hear the word of Allah, then escort him to a lace of safety.
(Surah Toubah : 9)

Thus Islam’s focus on jihad is not to promote mischief in the land nor
impose forcefully Islam upon the non Muslims but to maintain peace and harmony
in society

None of the Bible’s Writers Believed That Jesus is God:
Christians and Muslims both believe in Jesus, love him, and honor him. They
are, however, divided over the question of his divinity.

Fortunately, this difference can be resolved if we refer the question to both
the Bible and the Quran, because, both the Bible and the Quran teach that Jesus
is not God.

It is clear enough to everyone that the Quran denies the divinity of Jesus, so
we do not need to spend much time explaining that.

On the other hand, many people misunderstand the Bible; they feel that the
belief in Jesus as God is so widespread that it must have come from the Bible.
This article shows quite conclusively that the Bible does not teach that.

The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus is not God. In the Bible God is always
someone else other than Jesus.

Some will say that something Jesus said or something he did while on the earth
proves that he is God. We will show that the disciples never came to the
conclusion that Jesus is God. And those are people who lived and walked with
Jesus and thus knew first hand what he said and did. Furthermore, we are told
in the Acts of the Apostles in the Bible that the disciples were being guided by
the Holy Spirit. If Jesus is God, surely they should know it. But they did
not. They kept worshipping the one true God who was worshipped by Abraham,
Moses, and Jesus (see Acts 3:13).

All of the writers of the Bible believed that God was not Jesus. The idea that
Jesus is God did not become part of Christian belief until after the Bible was
written, and took many centuries to become part of the faith of Christians.

Matthew, Mark, and Luke, authors of the first three Gospels, believed that Jesus
was not God (see Mark 10:18 and Matthew 19:17). They believed that he was the
son of God in the sense of a righteous person. Many others too, are similarly
called sons of God (see Matthew 23:1-9).

Paul, believed to be the author of some thirteen or fourteen letters in the
Bible, also believed that Jesus is not God. For Paul, God first created Jesus,
then used Jesus as the agent by which to create the rest of creation (see
Colossians 1:15 and 1 Corinthians 8:6). Similar ideas are found in the letter
to the Hebrews, and also in the Gospel and Letters of John composed some seventy
years after Jesus. In all of these writings, however, Jesus is still a creature
of God and is therefore forever subservient to God (see 1 Corinthians 15:28).

Now, because Paul, John, and the author of Hebrews believed that Jesus was God’s
first creature, some of what they wrote clearly show that Jesus was a
pre-existent powerful being. This is often misunderstood to mean that he must
have been God. But to say that Jesus was God is to go against what these very
authors wrote. Although these authors had this later belief that Jesus is
greater than all creatures, they also believed that he was still lesser than
God. In fact, John quotes Jesus as saying: “...the Father is greater than I.”
(John 14:28). And Paul declares that the head of every woman is her husband,
the head of every man is Christ, and the head of Christ is God (see 1
Corinthians 11:3).

Therefore, to find something in these writings and claim that these teach that
Jesus is God is to misuse and misquote what those authors are saying. What they
wrote must be understood in the context of their belief that Jesus is a creature
of God as they have already clearly said.

So we see then, that some of the later writers had a higher view of Jesus, but
none of the writers of the Bible believed that Jesus is God. The Bible clearly
teaches that there is only one true God, the one whom Jesus worshipped (see John
17: 3).

In the rest of this article we will explore the Bible in more depth, and deal
with the passages which are most often misquoted as proofs of Jesus’ divinity.
We will show, with God’s help, that these do not mean what they are so often
used to prove.
2) Evidence From the Acts of the Apostles:
Jesus performed many miraculous wonders, and he without doubt said a lot of
wonderful things about himself. Some people use what he said and did as a proof
that he was God. But his original disciples who lived and walked with him, and
were eyewitnesses to what he said and did, never reached this conclusion.

The Acts of the Apostles in the Bible details the activity of the disciples over
a period of thirty years after Jesus was lifted up to heaven. Throughout this
period they never refer to Jesus as God. They continually and consistently use
the title God to refer to someone else other than Jesus.

Peter stood up with the eleven disciples and addressed the crowd saying: “Men of
Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by
miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you
yourselves know.” (Acts 2:22).

It was God, therefore, who did the miracles through Jesus to convince people
that Jesus was backed by God. Peter did not see the miracles as proof that
Jesus is God.

In fact, the way Peter refers to God and to Jesus makes it clear that Jesus is
not God. For he always turns the title God away from Jesus. Take the following
references for example:

“God has raised this Jesus...” (Acts 2:32)

“God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” (Acts 2:36)

In both passages, the title God is turned away from Jesus. So why he did this,
if Jesus was God?

For Peter, Jesus was a servant of God. Peter said: “God raised up his
servant...” (Acts 3:26). The title servant refers to Jesus. This is clear from
a previous passage where Peter declared: “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,
the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus.” (Acts 3:13).

Peter must have known that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob never spoke of a Triune
God. They always spoke of God as the only God. Here, as in Matthew 12:18,
Jesus is the servant of God. Matthew tells us that Jesus was the same servant
of God spoken of in Isaiah 42:1. So, according to Matthew and Peter, Jesus is
not God, but God’s servant. The Old Testament repeatedly says that God is alone
(e.g. Isaiah 45:5).

All of the disciples of Jesus held this view. In Acts 4:24 we are told that the
believers prayed to God saying: “...they raised their voices together in prayer
to God. ‘Sovereign Lord,’ they said, ‘you made the heaven and the earth and the
sea, and everything in them.’” It is clear that the one they were praying to
was not Jesus, because, two verses later, they referred to Jesus as “...your
holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed.” (Acts 4:27).

If Jesus was God, his disciples should have said this clearly. Instead, they
kept preaching that Jesus was God’s Christ. We are told in Acts: “Day after
day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching
and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.” (Acts 5:42).

The Greek word “Christ” is a human title. It means “Anointed.” If Jesus was
God, why would the disciples continually refer to him with human titles like
servant and Christ of God, and consistently use the title God for the one who
raised Jesus? Did they fear men? No! They boldly preached the truth fearing
neither imprisonment nor death. When they faced opposition from the
authorities, Peter declared: “We must obey God rather than men! The God of our
fathers raised Jesus...” (Acts 5:29-30).

Were they lacking the Holy Spirit? No! They were supported by the Holy Spirit
(see Acts 2:3, 4:8, and 5:32). They were simply teaching what they had learnt
from Jesus — that Jesus was not God but, rather, God’s servant and Christ.

The Quran confirms that Jesus was the Messiah (Christ), and that he was God’s
servant (see the Holy Quran 3:45 and 19:30).
3) Jesus is Not All-Powerful, and Not All-Knowing:
Christians and Muslims agree that God is all-powerful and all-knowing. The
Gospels show that Jesus was not all-powerful, and not all-knowing, since he had
some limitations.

Mark tells us in his gospel that Jesus was unable to do any powerful work in his
hometown except few things: “He could not do any miracles there, except lay his
hands on a few sick people and heal them.” (Mark 6:5). Mark also tells us that
when Jesus tried to heal a certain blind man, the man was not healed after the
first attempt, and Jesus had to try a second time (see Mark 8:22-26).

Therefore, although we hold a great love and respect for Jesus, we need to
understand that he is not the all-powerful God.

Mark’s Gospel also reveals that Jesus had limitations in his knowledge. In Mark
13:32, Jesus declared that he himself does not know when the last day will
occur, but the Father alone knows that (see also Matthew 24:36).

Therefore, Jesus could not have been the all-knowing God. Some will say that
Jesus knew when the last day will occur, but he chose not to tell. But that
complicates matters further. Jesus could have said that he knows but he does
not wish to tell. Instead, he said that he does not know. We must believe him.
Jesus does not lie at all.

The Gospel of Luke also reveals that Jesus had limited knowledge. Luke says
that Jesus increased in wisdom (Luke 2:52). In Hebrews too (Hebrews 5:8) we
read that Jesus learned obedience. But God’s knowledge and wisdom is always
perfect, and God does not learn new things. He knows everything always. So, if
Jesus learned something new, that proves that he did not know everything before
that, and thus he was not God.

Another example for the limited knowledge of Jesus is the fig tree episode in
the Gospels. Mark tells us as follows: “The next day as they were leaving
Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went
to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but
leaves, because it was not the season for figs.” (Mark 11:12-13).

It is clear from these verses that the knowledge of Jesus was limited on two
counts. First, he did not know that the tree had no fruit until he came to it.
Second, he did not know that it was not the right season to expect figs on
trees.

Can he become God later? No! Because there is only one God, and He is God from
everlasting to everlasting (see Psalms 90:2).

Someone may say that Jesus was God but he took the form of a servant and
therefore became limited. Well, that would mean that God changed. But God does
not change. God said so according to Malachi 3:6.

Jesus never was God, and never will be. In the Bible, God declares: “Before me
no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.” (Isaiah 43:10).

The Bible clearly shows that Jesus was not all-powerful and all-knowing as the
true God should be.
4) The Greatest Commandment in the Bible and the Quran:
Some will say that this whole discussion over the divinity of Jesus is
unnecessary. They say, the important thing is to accept Jesus as your personal
savior. On the contrary, the Bible’s writers stressed that, in order to be
saved, it is necessary to understand who exactly is God. Failure to understand
this would be to violate the first and greatest of all the commandments in the
Bible. This commandment was emphasized by Jesus, on whom be peace, when a
teacher of the Law of Moses asked him: “‘Of all the commandments, which is the
most important?’ ‘The most important one,’ answered Jesus, ‘is this: Hear, O
Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your
heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your
strength.’” (Mark 12:28-30).

Notice that Jesus was quoting the first commandment from the book of Deuteronomy
6:4-5. Jesus confirmed not only that this commandment is still valid, but also
that it is the most important of all the commandments. If Jesus thought that he
himself is God, why did not he say so? Instead, he stressed that God is one.
The man who questioned Jesus understood this, and what the man says next makes
it clear that God is not Jesus, for he said to Jesus: “‘Well said, teacher,’ the
man replied. ‘You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but
him.’” (Mark 12:32).

Now if Jesus was God, he would have told the man so. Instead, he let the man
refer to God as someone other than Jesus, and he even saw that the man had
spoken wisely: “When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, ‘You
are not far from the kingdom of God.’” (Mark 12:34). If Jesus knew that God is
a trinity, why did not he say so? Why did not he say that God is one in three,
or three in one? Instead, he declared that God is one. True imitators of Jesus
will imitate him also in this declaration of God’s oneness. They will not add
the word three where Jesus never said it.

Does salvation depend on this commandment? Yes, says the Bible! Jesus made
this clear when another man approached Jesus to learn from him (see Mark
10:17-29). The man fell on his knees and said to Jesus: “Good teacher, what
must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus replied: “Why do you call me good?
No one is good — except God alone.” (Mark 10:17-18).

By so saying, Jesus made a clear distinction between himself and God. Then he
proceeded with the answer to the man’s question about how to get salvation.
Jesus told him: “If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.” (Matthew
19:17, also see Mark 10:19).

Remember that the most important of all the commandments, according to Jesus, is
to know God as the only God. Jesus further emphasized this in the Gospel
According to John. In John 17:1, Jesus lifted his eyes to heaven and prayed,
addressing God as Father. Then in verse three, he said to God as follows: “Now
this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus
Christ, whom you have sent.” (John 17:3).

This proves beyond doubt that if people want to get eternal life they must know
that the One, whom Jesus was praying to, is the only true God, and they must
know that Jesus was sent by the true God. Some say that the Father is God, the
Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God. But Jesus said that the Father alone is
the only true God. True followers of Jesus will follow him in this too. Jesus
had said that his true followers are those who hold to his teachings. He said:
“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.” (John 8:31). His
teaching is that people must continue to keep the commandments, especially the
first commandment which emphasizes that God is alone, and that God should be
loved with all our hearts and all our strengths.

We love Jesus, but we must not love him as God. Today many love Jesus more than
they love God. This is because they see God as a vengeful person who wanted to
exact a penalty from them, and they see Jesus as the savior who rescued them
from the wrath of God. Yet God is our only savior. According to Isaiah 43:11,
God said: “I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.” Also
God said according to Isaiah 45:21-22: “Was it not I, the LORD? And there is no
God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me. Turn to
me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no
other.”

The Quran confirms the first commandment and addresses it to all humankind (see
the Holy Quran 2:163). And God declares that true believers love Him more than
anyone else or anything else (Quran 2:165).
5) Paul Believed That Jesus is not God:
Many people use Paul’s writings as proof that Jesus is God. But this is not
fair to Paul, because Paul clearly believed that Jesus is not God. In his first
letter to Timothy, Paul wrote: “I charge you, in the sight of God and Christ
Jesus and the elect angels, to keep these instructions...” (1 Timothy 5:21).

It is clear from this that the title God applies not to Christ Jesus, but to
someone else. In the following chapter, he again differentiates between God and
Jesus when he says: “In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of
Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good
confession...” (1 Timothy 6:13).

Paul then went on to speak of the second appearance of Jesus: “the appearing of
our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time.” (1 Timothy
6:14-15).

Again, the title God is deliberately turned away from Jesus. Incidentally, many
people think that when Jesus is called “Lord” in the Bible that this means
“God.” But in the Bible this title means master or teacher, and it can be used
for addressing humans (see 1 Peter 3:6).

What is more important, however, is to notice what Paul said about God in the
following passage, which clearly shows that Jesus is not God: “God, the blessed
and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and
who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be
honor and might forever.” (1 Timothy 6:15-16).

Paul said that God alone is immortal. Immortal means he does not die. Check
any dictionary. Now, anyone who believes that Jesus died cannot believe that
Jesus is God. Such a belief would contradict what Paul said here. Furthermore,
to say that God died is a blasphemy against God. Who would run the world if God
died? Paul believed that God does not die.

Paul also said in that passage that God dwells in unapproachable light — that no
one has seen God or can see him. Paul knew that many thousands of people had
seen Jesus. Yet Paul said that no one has seen God, because Paul was sure that
Jesus is not God. This is why Paul went on teaching that Jesus was not God, but
that he was the Christ (see Acts 9:22 and 18:5).

When he was in Athens, Paul spoke of God as “The God who made the world and
everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples
built by hands.” (Acts 17:24). Then he identified Jesus as “the man he (i.e.
God) has appointed.” (Acts 17:31).

Clearly, for Paul, Jesus was not God, and he would be shocked to see his
writings used for proving the opposite of what he believed. Paul even testified
in court saying: “I admit that I worship the God of our fathers...” (Acts
24:14).

He also said that Jesus is the servant of that God, for we read in Acts: “The
God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his
servant Jesus.” (Acts 3:13).

For Paul, the Father alone is God. Paul said that there is “one God and Father
of all...” (Ephesians 4:6). Paul said again: “...for us there is but one God,
the Father . . . and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ...” (1 Corinthians
8:6).

Paul’s letter to the Philippians (Philippians 2:6-11) is often quoted as a proof
that Jesus is God. But the very passage shows that Jesus is not God. This
passage has to agree with Isaiah 45:22-24 where God said that every knee should
bow to God, and every tongue should confess that righteousness and strength are
in God alone. Paul was aware of this passage, for he quoted it in Romans 14:11.
Knowing this, Paul declared: “I kneel before the Father.” (Ephesians 3:14).

The letter to the Hebrews (Hebrews 1:6) says that the angels of God should
worship the Son. But this passage depends on Deuteronomy 32:43, in the
Septuagint version of the Old Testament. This phrase cannot be found in the Old
Testament used by Christians today, and the Septuagint version is no longer
considered valid by Christians. However, even the Septuagint version, does not
say worship the Son. It says let the Angels of God worship God. The Bible
insists that God alone is to be worshipped: “When the LORD made a covenant with
the Israelites, he commanded them: ‘Do not worship any other gods or bow down to
them, serve them or sacrifice to them. But the LORD, who brought you up out of
Egypt with mighty power and outstretched arm, is the one you must worship. To
him you shall bow down and to him offer sacrifices. You must always be careful
to keep the decrees and ordinances, the laws and commands he wrote for you. Do
not worship other gods. Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do
not worship other gods. Rather, worship the LORD your God; it is he who will
deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.’” (2 Kings 17:35-39).

Jesus, on whom be peace, believed in this, for he also stressed it in Luke 4:8.
And Jesus too fell on his face and worshipped God (see Matthew 26:39). Paul
knew that Jesus worshipped God (see Hebrews 5:7). Paul taught that Jesus will
remain forever subservient to God (see 1 Corinthians 15:28).
6) Evidence from the Gospel of John:
The Gospel of John, the fourth Gospel, was completed to its present form some
seventy years after Jesus was raised up to heaven. This Gospel in its final
form says one more thing about Jesus that was unknown from the previous three
Gospels — that Jesus was the Word of God. John means that Jesus was God’s agent
through whom God created everything else. This is often misunderstood to mean
that Jesus was God Himself. But John was saying, as Paul had already said, that
Jesus was God’s first creature. In the Book of Revelation in the Bible, we find
that Jesus is: “the beginning of God’s creation” (Revelation 3:14, also see 1
Corinthians 8:6 and Colossians 1:15).

Anyone who says that the Word of God is a person distinct from God must also
admit that the Word was created, for the Word speaks in the Bible saying: “The
LORD brought me forth as the first of his works...” (Proverbs 8:22).

This Gospel, nevertheless, clearly teaches that Jesus is not God. If it did not
continue this teaching, then it would contradict the other three Gospels and
also the letters of Paul from which it is clearly established that Jesus is not
God. We find here that Jesus was not co-equal with the Father, for Jesus said:
“...the Father is greater than I.” (John 14:28).

People forget this and they say that Jesus is equal to the Father. Whom should
we believe — Jesus or the people? Muslims and Christians agree that God is
self-existent. This means that He does not derive his existence from anyone.
Yet John tells us that Jesus’ existence is caused by the Father. Jesus said in
this Gospel: “...I live because of the Father...” (John 6:57).

John tells us that Jesus cannot do anything by his own when he quotes Jesus as
saying: “By myself I can do nothing...” (John 5:30). This agrees with what we
learn about Jesus from other Gospels. In Mark, for example, we learn that Jesus
performed miracles by a power which was not within his control. This is
especially clear from an episode in which a woman is healed of her incurable
bleeding. The woman came up behind him and touched his cloak, and she was
immediately healed. But Jesus had no idea who touched him. Mark describes
Jesus’ actions thus: “At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him.
He turned around in the crowd and asked, ‘Who touched my clothes?’” (Mark 5:30).
His disciples could not provide a satisfactory answer, so Mark tells us: “Jesus
kept looking around to see who had done it.” (Mark 5:32). This shows that the
power that healed the woman was not within Jesus’ control. He knew that the
power had gone out of him, but he did not know where it went. Some other
intelligent being had to guide that power to the woman who needed to be healed.
God was that intelligent being.

It is no wonder, then, that in Acts of the Apostles we read that it was God who
did the miracles through Jesus (Acts 2:22).

God did extraordinary miracles through others too, but that does not make the
others God (see Acts 19:11). Why, then, is Jesus taken for God? Even when
Jesus raised his friend Lazarus from the dead, he had to ask God to do it.
Lazarus’ sister, Martha, knew this, for she said to Jesus: “I know that even now
God will give you whatever you ask.” (John 11:22).

Martha knew that Jesus was not God, and John who reported this with approval
knew it also. Jesus had a God, for when he was about to ascend to heaven, he
said: “I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.”
(John 20:17).

John was sure that no one had seen God, although he knew that many people had
seen Jesus (see John 1:18 and 1 John 4:12). In fact Jesus himself told the
crowds, that they have never seen the Father, nor have they heard the Father’s
voice (John 5:37). Notice that if Jesus was the Father, his statement here
would be false. Who is the only God in John’s Gospel? The Father alone.

Jesus testified this when he declared that the God of the Jews is the Father
(John 8:54). Jesus too confirmed that the Father alone is the only true God
(see John 17:1-3). And Jesus said to his enemies: “...you are determined to
kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God.” (John 8:40).
According to John, therefore, Jesus was not God, and nothing John wrote should
be taken as proof that he was God — unless one wishes to disagree with John.
7) God and Jesus Are Two Separate Beings:
Many people use certain verses of the Bible as proof that Jesus is God.
However, all of these verses, when understood in context, prove the opposite!

For example, in Matthew 9:2, Jesus said to a certain man, “Take heart, son; your
sins are forgiven.” Because of this, some say that Jesus must be God since only
God can forgive sins. However, if you are willing to read just a few verses
further, you will find that the people “...praised God, who had given such
authority to men.” (Matthew 9:8). This shows that the people knew, and Matthew
agrees, that Jesus is not the only man to receive such authority from God.

Jesus himself emphasized that he does not speak on his own authority (John
14:10) and he does nothing on his own authority, but he speaks only what the
Father has taught him (John 8:28). What Jesus did here was as follows. Jesus
announced to the man the knowledge Jesus received from God that God had forgiven
the man.

Notice that Jesus did not say, “I forgive your sins,” but rather, “your sins are
forgiven,” implying, as this would to his Jewish listeners, that God had
forgiven the man. Jesus, then, did not have the power to forgive sins, and in
that very episode he called himself “the Son of Man” (Matthew 9:6).

John 10:30 is often used as proof that Jesus is God because Jesus said, “I and
the father are one.” But, if you read the next six verses, you will find Jesus
explaining that his enemies were wrong to think that he was claiming to be God.
What Jesus obviously means here is that he is one with the Father in purpose.
Jesus also prayed that his disciples should be one just as Jesus and the Father
are one. Obviously, he was not praying that all his disciples should somehow
merge into one individual (see John 17:11 and 22). And when Luke reports that
the disciples were all one, Luke does not mean that they became one single human
being, but that they shared a common purpose although they were separate beings
(see Acts 4:32). In terms of essence, Jesus and the Father are two, for Jesus
said they are two witnesses (John 8:14-18). They have to be two, since one is
greater than the other (see John 14:28). When Jesus prayed to be saved from the
cross, he said: “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my
will, but yours be done.” (Luke 22:42).

This shows that they had two separate wills, although Jesus submitted his will
to the will of the Father. Two wills mean two separate individuals.

Furthermore, Jesus is reported to have said: “My God, my God, why have you
forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46). If one of them forsook the other, then they must
be two separate entities.

Again, Jesus is reported to have said: “Father, into your hands I commit my
spirit.” (Luke 23:46). If the spirit of one can be placed into the hands of
another, they must be two separate beings.

In all of these instances, Jesus is clearly subordinate to the Father. When
Jesus knelt down and prayed he obviously was not praying to himself (see Luke
22:41). He was praying to his God.

Throughout the New Testament, the Father alone is called God. In fact, the
titles “Father” and “God” are used to designate one individual, not three, and
never Jesus. This is also clear from the fact that Matthew substituted the
title “Father” in the place of the title “God” in at least two places in his
Gospel (compare Matthew 10:29 with Luke 12:6, and Matthew 12:50 with Mark 3:35).
If Matthew is right in doing so, then the Father alone is God.

Was Jesus the Father? No! Because Jesus said: “And do not call anyone on earth
‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.” (Matthew 23:9). So
Jesus is not the Father, since Jesus was standing on the earth when he said
this.

The Quran seeks to bring people back to the true faith that was taught by Jesus,
and by his true disciples who continued in his teaching. That teaching
emphasized a continued commitment to the first commandment that God is alone.
In the Quran, God directs Muslims to call readers of the Bible back to that true
faith. God have said in the Quran:

Say: “O people of the Book (Christians and Jews)! Come to a word that is just
between us and you: that we shall worship none but God, and that we shall
associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords
beside God.” (Quran, 3:64)

What Is the Status of Women in Islam?
Islam sees a woman, whether single or married, as an individual in her own
right, with the right to own and dispose of her property and earnings without
any guardianship over her (whether that be her father, husband, or anyone else).
She has the right to buy and sell, give gifts and charity, and may spend her
money as she pleases. A marriage dowry is given by the groom to the bride for
her own personal use, and she keeps her own family name rather than taking her
husband’s.

Islam encourages the husband to treat his wife well, as the Prophet Muhammad
said: {The best among you are those who are best to their wives.}1

Mothers in Islam are highly honored. Islam recommends treating them in the best
way. A man came to the Prophet Muhammad and said, “O Messenger of God! Who
among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship?” The Prophet
said: {Your mother.} The man said, “Then who?” The Prophet said: {Then your
mother.} The man further asked, “Then who?” The Prophet said: {Then your
mother.} The man asked again, “Then who?” The Prophet said: {Then your
father.}
WOMEN'S LIBERATION THROUGH ISLAM
---------------------------------

Today people think that women are liberated in the West and that the women's
liberation movement began in the 20th century. Actually, the women's liberation
movement was not begun by women but was revealed by God to a man in the seventh
century by the name of Muhammad (peace be upon him), who is known as the last
Prophet of Islam. The Qur'an and the Traditions of the Prophet (Hadith or
Sunnah) are the sources from which every Muslim woman derives her rights and
duties.
I. HUMAN RIGHTS
Islam, fourteen centuries ago, made women equally accountable to God in
glorifying and worshipping Him - setting no limits on her moral progress. Also,
Islam established a woman's equality in her humanity with men. In the Qur'an, in
the first verse of the chapter entitled "Women," God says, "O mankind! Be
careful of your duty to your Lord Who created you from a single soul and from it
its mate and from them both have spread abroad a multitude of men and women. Be
careful of your duty toward Allah in Whom you claim (your rights) of one
another, and towards the wombs (that bore you). Lo! Allah has been a Watcher
over you." (4:1) Since men and women both came from the same essence, they are
equal in their humanity. Women cannot be by nature evil (as some religious
believe) or then men would be evil also. Similarly, neither gender can be
superior because it would be a contradiction of equality.
II. CIVIL RIGHTS
In Islam, a woman has the basic freedom of choice and expression based on
recognition of her individual personality. First, she is free to choose her
religion. The Qur'an states: "There is no compulsion in religion. Right has been
made distinct from error." (2:256) Women are encouraged in Islam to contribute
their opinions and ideas. There are many traditions of the Prophet (pbuh) which
indicate women would pose questions directly to him and offer their opinions
concerning religion, economics and social matters. A Muslim woman chooses her
husband and keeps her name after marriage. A Muslim woman's testimony is valid
in legal disputes. In fact, in areas in which women are more familiar, their
evidence is conclusive.
III. SOCIAL RIGHTS
The Prophet (pbuh) said: "Seeking knowledge is a mandate for every Muslim (male
and female)." This includes knowledge of the Qur'an and the Hadith as well as
other knowledge. Men and women both have the capacity for learning and
understanding. Since it is also their obligation to promote good behavior and
condemn bad behavior in all spheres of life, Muslim women must acquire the
appropriate education to perform this duty in accordance with their own natural
talents and interests. While maintenance of a home, providing support to her
husband, and bearing, raising and teaching of children are among the first and
very highly regarded roles for a woman, if she has the skills to work outside
the home for the good of the community, she may do so as long as her family
obligations are met. Islam recognizes and fosters the natural differences
between men and women despite their equality. Some types of work are more
suitable for men and other types for women. This in no way diminishes either's
effort nor its benefit. God will reward both sexes equally for the value of
their work, though it may not necessarily be the same activity. Concerning
motherhood, the Prophet (pbuh) said: "Heaven lies under the feet of mothers."
This implies that the success of a society can be traced to the mothers that
raised it. The first and greatest influence on a person comes from the sense of
security, affection, and training received from the mother. Therefore, a woman
having children must be educated and conscientious in order to be a skillful
parent.

V. ECONOMIC RIGHTS
The Qur'an states: "By the creation of the male and female; Verily, (the ends)
ye strive for are diverse." (92:3-4) In these verses, God declares that He
created men and women to be different, with unique roles, functions and skills.
As in society, where there is a division of labor, so too in a family; each
member has different responsibilities. Generally, Islam upholds that women are
entrusted with the nurturing role, and men, with the guardian role. Therefore,
women are given the right of financial support. The Qur'an states: "Men are the
maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and
because they spend of their wealth (for the support of women)." (4:34) This
guardianship and greater financial responsibility is given to men, requires that
they provide women with not only monetary support but also physical protection
and kind and respectful treatment. The Muslim woman has the privilege to earn
money, the right to own property, to enter into legal contracts and to manage
all of her assets in any way she pleases. She can run her own business and no
one has any claim on her earnings including her husband. The Qur'an states: "And
in no wise covet those things in which Allah hath bestowed His gifts more freely
on some of you than on others; to men is allotted what they earn, and to women,
what they earn; but ask Allah of His bounty, for Allah hath full knowledge of
all things." (4:32)A woman inherits from her relatives. The Qur'an states: "For
men there is a share in what parents and relatives leave, and for women there is
a share of what parents and relatives leave, whether it be little or much - an
ordained share." (4:7)
VI. RIGHTS OF A WIFE
The Qur'an states: "And among His signs is that He created for you mates from
among yourselves that you may live in tranquillity with them, and He has put
love and mercy between you; Verily, in that are signs for people who reflect."
(30:21) Marriage is therefore not just a physical or emotional necessity, but in
fact, a sign from God! It is a relationship of mutual rights and obligations
based on divine guidance. God created men and women with complimentary natures,
and in the Qur'an, He laid out a system of laws to support harmonious
interaction between the sexes. "...They are your garments and you are their
garments." (2:187) Clothing provides physical protection and covers the beauty
and faults of the body. Likewise, a spouse is viewed this way. Each protects the
other and hides the faults and compliments the characteristics of the spouse. To
foster the love and security that comes with marriage, Muslim wives have various
rights. The first of the wife's rights is to receive mahr, a gift from the
husband which is part of the marriage contract and required for the legality of
the marriage. The second right of a wife is maintenance. Despite any wealth she
may have, her husband is obligated to provide her with food, shelter and
clothing. He is not forced, however, to spend beyond his capability and his wife
is not entitled to make unreasonable demands. The Qur'an states: "Let the man of
means spend according to his means, and the man whose resources are restricted,
let him spend according to what Allah has given him. Allah puts no burden on any
person beyond what He has given him." (65:7)God tells us men are guardians over
women and are afforded the leadership in the family. His responsibility for
obeying God extends to guiding his family to obey God at all times. A wife's
rights also extend beyond material needs. She has the right to kind treatment.
The Prophet (pbuh) said: "The most perfect believers are the best in conduct.
And the best of you are those who are best to their wives."God tells us He
created mates and put love, mercy, and tranquillity between them. Both men and
women have a need for companionship and sexual needs, and marriage is designed
to fulfill those needs. For one spouse to deny this satisfaction to the other,
temptation exists to seek it elsewhere.
VII. DUTIES OF A WIFE
With rights come responsibilities. Therefore, wives have certain obligations to
their husbands. The Qur'an states: "The good women in the absence of their
husbands guard their rights as Allah has enjoined upon them to be guarded."
(4:34) A wife is to keep her husband's secrets and protect their marital
privacy. Issues of intimacy or faults of his that would dishonor him, are not to
be shared by the wife, just as he is expected to guard her honor. A wife must
also guard her husband's property. She must safeguard his home and possessions,
to the best of her ability, from theft or damage. She should manage the
household affairs wisely so as to prevent loss or waste. he should not allow
anyone to enter the house whom her husband dislikes nor incur any expenses of
which her husband disapproves. A Muslim woman must cooperate and coordinate with
her husband. There cannot, however, be cooperation with a man who is disobedient
to God. She should not fulfill his requests if he wants her to do something
unlawful. A husband also should not take advantage of his wife, but be
considerate of her needs and happiness.
VIII. CONCLUSION
The Qur'an states: "And it becomes not a believing man or a believing women,
when Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad) have decided on an affair (for them),
that they should (after that) claim any say in their affair; and whoso is
rebellious to Allah and His Messenger, he verily goes astray in error manifest."
(33:36)The Muslim woman was given a role, duties and rights 1400 years ago that
most women do not enjoy today, even in the West. These are from God and are
designed to keep balance in society; what may seem unjust or missing in one
place is compensated for or explained in another place. Islam is a complete way
of life. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Subject: EXPERIENCES OF A RECENTLY CONVERTED HINDU WOMAN

I came from a purely Hindu family where we were always taught to regard
ourselves (i.e. women) as beings who were eventually to be married off and have
children and serve the husband - whether he was kind or not. Other than this I
found that there were a lot of things which really oppressed women, such as: *
If a woman was widowed, she would always have to wear a white sari (costume),
eat vegetarian meals, cut her hair short, and never re-marry. The bride always
had to pay the dowry (bridal money) to the husband's family. And the husband
could ask for anything, irrespective of whether the bride would have difficulty
giving it.
* Not only that, if after marriage she was not able to pay the full dowry she
would be both emotionally and physically tortured, and could end up being a
victim of "kitchen death" where the husband, or both the mother-in-law and the
husband try to set fire to the wife while she is cooking or is in the kitchen,
and try to make it look like an accidental death. More and more of these
instances are taking place. The daughter of a friend of my own father's had the
same fate last year!
* In addition to all this, men in Hinduism are treated literally as among the
gods. In one of the religious Hindu celebrations, unmarried girls pray for and
worship an idol representing a particular god (Shira) so that they may have
husbands like him. Even my own mother had asked me to do this. This made me see
that the Hindu religion which is based on superstitions and things that have no
manifest proof , but were merely traditions which oppressed women could not be
right.
Subsequently, when I came to England to study, I thought that at least this is a
country which gives equal rights to men and women, and does not oppress them. We
all have the freedom to do as we like, I thought. Well, as I started to meet
people and make new friends, learn about this new society, and go to all the
places my friends went to in order to "socialise" (bars, dance halls, etc.). I
realised that this "equality" was not so true in practice as it was in theory.
Outwardly, women were seen to be given equal rights in education, work, and so
forth, but in reality women were still oppressed in a different, more subtle
way. When I went with my friends to those places they hung out at, I found
everybody interested to talk to me and I thought that was normal. But it was
only later that I realised how naïve I was, and recognised what these people
were really looking for. I soon began to feel uncomfortable, as if I was not
myself: I had to dress in a certain way so that people would like me, and had to
talk in a certain way to please them. I soon found that I was feeling more and
more uncomfortable, less and less myself, yet I could not get out. Everybody was
saying they were enjoying themselves, but I don't call this enjoying.
I think women in this way of life are oppressed; they have to dress in a certain
way in order to please and appear more appealing, and also talk in a certain way
so people like them. During this time I had not thought about Islam, even though
I had some Muslim acquaintances. But I felt I really had to do something, to
find something that I would be happy and secure with, and would feel respected
with. Something to believe in that is the right belief, because everybody has a
belief that they live according to. If having fun by getting off with other
people is someone's belief, they do this. If making money is someone's belief,
they do everything to achieve this. If they believe drinking is one way to enjoy
life then they do it. But I feel all this leads to nowhere; no one is truly
satisfied, and the respect women are looking for is diminishing in this way.
In these days of so called "society of equal rights", you are expected to have a
boyfriend (or you're weird!) and to not be a virgin. So this is a form of
oppression even though some women do not realise it. When I came to Islam, it
was obvious that I had finally found permanent security. A religion, a belief
that was so complete and clear in every aspect of life. Many people have a
misconception that Islam is an oppressive religion, where women are covered from
head to toe, and are not allowed any freedom or rights. In fact, women in Islam
are given more rights, and have been for the past 1400 years, compared to the
only-recently rights given to non-Muslim women in some western and some other
societies. But there are, even now, societies where women are still oppressed,
as I mentioned earlier in relation to Hindu women.
Muslim women have the right to inheritance. They have the right to run their own
trade and business. They have the full right to ownership, property, disposal
over their wealth to which the husband has no right. They have the right to
education, a right to refuse marriage as long as this refusal is according to
reasonable and justifiable grounds. The Qur'an itself, which is the Word of God,
contains many verses commanding men to be kind to their wives and stressing the
rights of women. Islam gives the right set of rules, because they are NOT made
by men, but made by God; hence it is a perfect religion.
Quite often Muslim women are asked why they are covered from head to toe, and
are told that this is oppression - it is not. In Islam, marriage is an important
part of life, the making of the society. Therefore, a woman should not go around
showing herself to everybody, only for her husband. Even the man is not allowed
to show certain parts of his body to none but his wife. In addition, God has
commanded Muslim women to cover themselves for their modesty: "O Prophet! Tell
your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their
cloaks (veils) over their bodies (when outdoors). That is most convenient that
they could be known as such (i.e. decent and chaste) and not molested." (Qur'an
33:59)
If we look around at any other society, we find that in the majority of cases
women are attacked and molested because of how they are dressed. Another point
I'd like to comment on is that the rules and regulation laid down in Islam by
God do not apply just to women but to men also. There is no intermingling and
free-running between men and women for the benefit of both. Whatever God
commands is right, wholesome, pure and beneficial to mankind; there is no doubt
about that. A verse in the Qur'an explains this concept clearly: "Say to the
believing men that they should lower their gaze and protect their private parts
(i.e. from indecency, illegal sexual acts, etc.); that will make for greater
purity for them. And God is well aware of what they do. And say to the believing
women that they should lower their gaze and protect their private parts (from
indecency, illegal sexual intercourse, etc.); and that they should not display
their beauty and ornaments . . . " (Qur'an, Surah Al-Nur 24:31)
When I put on my hijab (veil), I was really happy to do it. In fact, I really
want to do it. When I put on the hijab, I felt a great sense of satisfaction and
happiness. Satisfied that I had obeyed God's command. And happy with the good
and blessings that come with it. I have felt secure and protected. In fact
people respect me more for it. I could really see the difference in behaviour
towards me.
Finally, I'd like to say that I had accepted Islam not blindly, or under any
compulsion. In the Qur'an itself there is a verse which says "Let there be no
compulsion in religion". I accepted Islam with conviction. I have seen, been
there, done that, and seen both sides of the story. I know and have experienced
what the other side is like, and I know that I have done the right thing. Islam
does not oppress women, but rather Islam liberates them and gives them the
respect they deserve. Islam is the religion God has chosen for the whole of
mankind. Those who accept it are truly liberated from the chains and shackles of
mankind whose ruling and legislating necessitates nothing but the oppression of
one group by another and the exploitation and oppression of one sex by the
other. This is not the case of Islam which truly liberated women and gave them
an individuality not given by any other authority.

The Bible's Last Prophet
What all Christians and Jews MUST know about the Bible
"Certainly, you will find the strongest among men in enmity to the Believers
(Muslims) the Jews and those who are Pagans, and you will find the nearest in
love to the Believers (Muslims) those who say: "We are Christians." That is
because amongst them are priests (Men devoted to learning) and monks (men who
have renounced the world), and because they do not behave proudly. And when they
listen to what has been sent down to the Messenger (Muhammad), you see their
eyes overflowing with tears, for they recognize the truth. They say: "Our Lord!
We believe; so write us down among the witnesses. And why should we not believe
in Allah and in that which has come to us of the truth (Islamic Monotheism) and
we wish that our Lord will admit us (in Paradise on the Day of Resurrection)
along with the righteous people?" So because of what they said, Allah rewarded
them Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise), they will abide therein
forever. Such is the reward of good-doers. But those who disbelieved and denied
Our signs, they shall be the dwellers of the Hell-Fire." (Holy Qur'an 5:82-86)

How to make your Wife happy ?

The following is a summary of the book "How to make your wife happy by Sheikh
Mohammed Abdelhaleem Hamed.

Beautiful Reception

After returning from work, school, travel, or whatever has separated you:

    Begin with a good greeting.
Start with Assalamau 'Aliaykum and a smile. Salam is a sunnah and a du'aa for
her as well.
Shake her hand and leave bad news for later!

Sweet Speech and Enchanting Invitations

Choose words that are positive and avoid negative ones.
Give her your attention when you speak of she speaks.
Speak with clarity and repeat words if necessary until she understands.
Call her with the nice names that she likes, e.g. my sweet-heart, honey,
saaliha, etc.

Friendliness and Recreation

    Spend time talking together.
    Spread to her goods news.
    Remember your good memories together.

Games and Distractions

Joking around & having a sense of humor.
Playing and competing with each other in sports or whatever.
Taking her to watch permissible (halal) types of entertainment.
Avoiding prohibited (haram) things in your choices of entertainment.

Assistance in the Household

Doing what you as an individual can/like to do that helps out, especially if
she is sick or tired.
The most important thing is making it obvious that he appreciates her hard
work.

Consultation (Shurah)

    Specifically in family matters.
Giving her the feeling that her opinion is important to you.
    Studying her opinion carefully.
Be willing to change an opinion for hers if it is better.
Thanking her for helping him with her opinions.

Visiting Others

Choosing well raised people to build relations with. There is a great reward
in visiting relatives and pious people. (Not in wasting time while visiting!)
Pay attention to ensure Islamic manners during visits.
Not forcing her to visit whom she does not feel comfortable with.

Conduct During Travel

Offer a warm farewell and good advice.
Ask her to pray for him.
Ask pious relatives and friends to take care of the family in your absence.
Give her enough money for what she might need.
Try to stay in touch with her whether by phone, e-mail, letters, etc..
    Return as soon as possible.
    Bring her a gift!
Avoid returning at an unexpected time or at night.
Take her with you if possible.

Financial Support

The husband needs to be generous within his financial capabilities. He should
not be a miser with his money (nor wasteful).
He gets rewards for all what he spends on her sustenance even for a small
piece of bread that he feeds her by his hand (hadeith).
He is strongly encouraged to give to her before she asks him.

Smelling Good and Physical Beautification

Following the Sunnah in removing hair from the groin and underarms.
    Always being clean and neat.
    Put on perfume for her.

Intercourse

It is obligatory to do it habitually if you have no excuse (sickness, etc.)
Start with "Bismillah" and the authentic du'a.
Enter into her in the proper place only (not the anus).
Begin with foreplay including words of love.
Continue until you have satisfied her desire.
    Relax and joke around afterwards.
Avoid intercourse during the monthly period because it haram
Do what you can to avoid damaging her level of Hiyaa (shyness and modesty)
such as taking your clothes together instead of asking her to do it first while
he is looking on.
Avoid positions during intercourse that may harm her such as putting pressure
on her chest and blocking her breath, especially if you are heavy.
Choose suitable times for intercourse and be considerate as sometimes she
maybe sick or exhausted.

Guarding Privacy

Avoid disclosing private information such as bedroom secrets, her personal
problems and other private matters.

Aiding in the Obedience to Allah

Wake her up in the last third of the night to pray "Qiyam-ul-Layl" (extra
prayer done at night with long sujood and ruku'ua).
Teach her what you know of the Qur'an and its tafseer.
Teach her "Dhikr" (ways to remember Allah by the example of the prophet) in
the morning and evening.
Encourage her to spend money for the sake of Allah such as in a charity sale.
Take her to Hajj and Umrah when you can afford to do so.

Showing Respect for her Family and Friends

Take her to visit her family and relatives, especially her parents.
Invite them to visit her and welcome them.
Give them presents on special occasions.
Help them when needed with money, effort, etc..
Keep good relations with her family after her death if she dies first. Also
in this case the husband is encouraged to follow the sunnah and keep giving what
she used to give in her life to her friends and family.

(Islamic) Training & Admonition

This includes:

    The basics of Islam
    Her duties and rights
    Reading and writing
Encouraging her to attend lessons and halaqahs
Islamic rules (ahkam) related to women
Buying Islamic books and tapes for the home library

Admirable Jealousy

Ensure she is wearing proper hijab before leaving house.
Restrict free mixing with non-mahram men.
    Avoiding excess jealousy.
Examples of this are:
1- Analyzing every word and sentence she says and overloading her speech by
meanings that she did not mean
2- Preventing her from going out of the house when the reasons are just.
3- Preventing her from answering the phone.

Patience and Mildness

Problems are expected in every marriage so this is normal. What is wrong is
excessive responses and magnifying problems until a marital breakdown.
Anger should be shown when she exceeds the boundaries of Allah SWT, by
delaying prayers, backbiting, watching prohibited scenes on TV, etc..
Forgive the mistakes she does to you.

Correcting her Mistakes

First, implicit and explicit advice several times.
Then by turning your back to her in bed (displaying your feelings). Note that
this does not include leaving the bedroom to another room, leaving the house to
another place, or not talking with her.
The last solution is lightly hitting (when allowable) her. In this case, the
husband should consider the following:

He should know that sunnah is to avoid beating as the Prophet PBUH never beat
a woman or a servant.
He should do it only in extreme cases of disobedience, e.g. refusing
intercourse without cause frequently, constantly not praying on time, leaving
the house for long periods of time without permission nor refusing to tell him
where she had been, etc..
It should not be done except after having turned from her bed and discussing
the matter with her as mentioned in Qur'an .
He should not hit her hard injuring her, or hit her on her face or on
sensitive parts of her body.
He should avoid shaming her such as by hitting her with a shoe, etc.

Pardoning and Appropriate Censure

Accounting her only for larger mistakes.
Forgive mistakes done to him but account her for mistakes done in Allah's
rights, e.g. delaying prayers, etc..
Remember all the good she does whenever she makes a mistake.
Remember that all humans err so try to find excuses for her such as maybe she
is tired, sad, having her monthly cycle or that her commitment to Islam is
growing.
Avoid attacking her for the bad cooking of the food as the Prophet PBUH never
blamed any of his wives for this. If he likes the food, he eats and if he
doesn't then he does not eat and does not comment.
Before declaring her to be in error, try other indirect approaches that are
more subtle than direct accusations
Escape from using insults and words that may hurt her feelings.
When it becomes necessary to discuss a problem wait until you have privacy
from others.
Waiting until the anger has subsided a bit can help to keep a control on your
words.

Finally, please make Du'a for the writer; Sheikh Mohammad Abdelhaleem Hamed, for
the translator brother Abu Talhah and for reviewer Br. Adam Qurashi. Remember
this is not a perfect translation so forgive us our faults and correct our
errors. Muslim Students' Association University of Alberta Edmonton, Canada

JABIR IBN HAIYAN (Geber)

(Died 803 C.E.)

---------------------------------

Jabir Ibn Haiyan, known by the name of the alchemist Geber of the Middle Ages,
is generally known as the Father of Chemistry. His full name was Abu Musa Jabir
Ibn Hayyan. He had established himself as one of the leading scientist while he
practiced medicine and alchemy in Kufa (in present day Iraq) around 776 C.E. In
his early days, he was under the patronage of the Barmaki Vizier during the
Abbasid Caliphate of Haroon al-Rashid. Jabir died in Kufa in 803 C.E.

Jabir's (Geber's) major contribution was in the field of Chemistry. He is famous
for writing more than one hundred monumental treatises, of which twenty-two deal
with chemistry and alchemy. He introduced experimental investigation into
alchemy (derived from Arabic word al-Kimiya), creating the momentum for the
modern Chemistry. Jabir emphasized experimentation and development of methods to
achieve reproducibility in his work. He devoted his effort to the development of
basic chemical methods and the study of various mechanisms of chemical reactions
and thus helped evolve chemistry as a science from the legends of alchemy. Jabir
emphasized that definite quantities of various substances are involved in a
chemical reaction. Therefore, it can be said that he paved the way for the law
of constant proportions.

His contribution of fundamental importance to chemistry includes perfection of
scientific techniques such as crystallization, distillation, calcination,
sublimation and evaporation and development of several instruments for
conducting these experiments. Jabir's major practical achievement was the
discovery of minerals and acids, which he prepared for the first time in his
alembic (Anbique). His invention of the alembic made the distillation process
easy and systematic. Among his various breakthroughs is the preparation of
nitric, hydrochloric, citric and tartaric acids. Jabir's emphasis on systematic
experimentation is outstanding. It is on the basis of such works that he is
regarded as the father of modern Chemistry. In the words of Max Mayerhaff, the
development of chemistry in Europe can be traced directly to Jabir Ibn Haiyan.

Jabir was a pioneer in the development of a number of applied chemical
processes. His contributions include the development of steel, preparation of
various metals, prevention of rusting, lettering in gold, use of manganese
dioxide in glass-making, dyeing of cloth and tanning of leather, varnishing of
waterproof cloth, identification of paints and greases. In addition, he
developed aqua regia to dissolve gold.

Jabir's experimental ideas paved the way for now commonly known classification
of substances as metals, nonmetals and volatile substances. He discussed three
distinct types of substances based on their properties: a) spirits, i.e., those
which vaporize on heating, like camphor, arsenic and ammonium chloride, b)
metals, e.g., gold, silver, lead, copper, iron, and c) compounds that can be
converted into powders.

Jabir treatises on chemistry, including his Kitab al-Kimya, and Kitab al-Sab'een
were translated into Latin in the Middle Ages. The translation of Kitab al-Kimya
was published by the Englishman Robert of Chester in 1144 C.E. under the title
"The Book of the Composition of Alchemy." The second book was translated by the
famous Gerard of Cremona (D. 1187). Berthelot translated some his books known by
the titles "Book of Kingdom", "Book of the Balances," "Book of Eastern Mercury,"
and it is obvious that he did not use correct titles for Jabir's books.
Englishman Richard Russel translated and published (1678) Jabir's another work
under the title "Sum of Perfection." He described him as Geber, the most famous
Arabian prince and philosopher. These translations were popular in Europe for
several centuries and have influenced the evolution of modern chemistry. Several
technical terms introduced by Jabir, such as alkali, are found in various
European languages and have become part of scientific vocabulary. Only a few of
his books have been edited and published, while many others preserved in Arabic
have yet to be translated. He also contributed to other sciences such as
medicine and astronomy.

Signs of Allah in Oceans and Lands

The great quantity of water in the seas makes our earth habitable. If the
proportion of sea to land on the earth were smaller, then lands would turn into
deserts and life would be impossible.

A conscientious person who thinks about these matters is completely convinced
that the establishment of such a perfect balance on the earth is surely not a
coincidence. Seeing and thinking about all these shows that a Creator Who is
exalted and the owner of eternal power created everything for a purpose.

And He has made everything in the heavens and everything on the earth
subservient to you. It is all from Him. There are certainly Signs in that for
people who reflect. (Surat al-Jathiyya: 13).

Signs of Allah in Plants

We see trees everyday and everywhere; however, have you ever thought how water
reaches the farthest leaf on the top branch of a lofty tree? We can have a
better understanding of the extraordinary nature of this by way of a comparison.
It is impossible for the water in a tank in the basement of your building to
climb to higher floors without a hydrophoric tank or some other powerful engine.
You cannot pump water even to the first floor. Therefore, there should also be
in trees a pumping system similar to the hydrophoric engine. Otherwise, since
water would not be able to reach the trunk of the tree and the branches, trees
would soon die.Allah has created each tree with all the necessary equipment.
Moreover, the hydraulic system in many trees is too superior to be compared to
the building in which one lives.

Signs of Allah in Roses

A rose, for instance, has a strong and constant ever-changing smell. Even with
the latest technology, scientists cannot develop an exact match of the smell of
the rose. Laboratory research to imitate this smell has not yielded satisfactory
results. Smells produced based on the scent of the rose are generally heavy and
disturbing. However, the original scent of the rose does not disturb. "It is as
Allah wills, there is no strength but in Allah" (Surat al-Kahf: 39).

Signs of Allah in a fly

The fly flaps it wings approximately 500 times per second while flying. In fact,
no man-made machine could operate at such a rate, but would shatter and burn
because of friction. However, neither the wings, muscles, nor the joints of the
fly are harmed. Taking into account the direction and speed of the wind, it can
fly in any direction without being diverted. Even with our current technology,
man is very distant from producing a device with these extraordinary features
and techniques of flight. Yet such an insignificant living being, which man
brushes aside and pays no attention to, achieves something remarkable that man
so far has been unable to achieve. Allah has given the fly all its outstanding
characteristics and abilities

The really ugly world

On the Day of Resurrection, the world will be brought before the people. It
would look like an old woman, with blue sunken eyes and protruding teeth. People
will be asked, "Do you recognise her." They will say, "May Allah protect us all!
Who is this monster?" Then they will be told, "This is the world, the world for
which you killed on another, severed blood relationship, felt jealous of one
another, nourished grudge against others; it is the world that deceived you
all." Then this old hag will be hurled into Jahannam. She will cry, "Call my
admirers! Send my followers with me to Jahannam." Then Allah Ta'ala will give
the command: "Send to Jahannam all those who followed this world." Source:
Fadhail-e-Sadaqaat Part II, translated by Prof. Abdul Karim.

Take protection with your shields

Abu Hurairah (RA) narrates: Rasulullah (SAW) came to us and said: Take
protection with your shields! Sahabah (Prophet's companions) asked: O
Rasulullah! is there a threat of some enemy coming? He said: Take protection
with your shields against the Fire (of Hell)! Say, Subhanallah (Allah is
flawless), Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La ilaha illallah (None is worthy
of worship but Allah), Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest). On the Day of
Resurrection, these words will come from the front, back, right and left
(defence from all sides) of the one who had recited them, and ensure deliverence
for him, and these are those good deeds for which the reward will be given
eternally. Source: Tabarani

Listen to this very carefully

Amr (RA) narrates that Prophet (SAW) one day delivered a sermon saying: Listen
carefully! The world and its things are temporary commodity (and as such have no
worth and value), shared and consumed by both the good and the evil people
alike! Indeed, the Hereafter is truly a reality and will arrive at its appointed
time in which Judgement will be made by a Powerful King. Listen carefully!
Indeed all good, in all its varieties, is in Paradise! Indeed all evil, in all
its varieties, is in the Fire. Understand it well; whatever you do, do it being
fearful of Allah; and understand that you will be presented (in front of Allah)
with you actions. Whosoever does an atom's worth of good, he will see it, and
whosoever does an atom's worth of evil, he will see it! Source: Musnad Sha'fi

Did you get a bill from Allah?

A man reached 70 years of age and he faced a disease, he could not urinate. The
doctors told him that he needs an operation to cure this disease. He agreed to
do the operation as the problem was giving him much pain for days. When the
operation was completed, his doctor gave him the bill which covered all the
costs. The old man looked at the bill and started to cry. Upon seeing this the
doctor told him that if the cost is too high then they could make some other
arrangements. The old main said "I am not crying because of the money but I am
crying because Allah let me urinate for 70 years and He never sent me a bill."

Subhanallah! We rarely thank Allah for these things which are indeed great
favours. We ask Allah to grant us the quality of being able to thank Him much
and remember Him always.

Sand and stone

Two friends Ismail and Ibrahim were walking through the desert, as the sun was
beating down on their heads, and they were thirsty for water they began to
argue. The argument got more and more heated and eventually Ismail struck
Ibrahim across the face. Ibrahim felt hurt inside, but without anything to say,
he wrote in the sand: "Today, my best friend slapped me in the face."

They kept on walking, until eventually they came across an oasis, where they
decided to stop and bathe. Ibrahim jumped in and began to wash, while Ismail sat
back and relaxed. Suddenly Ibrahim began to scream and shout, he had developed a
cramp and was having difficulty keeping his head above water, he was drowning.

Ismail dived in after him, and brought him gently to shore. When Ibrahim
recovered from the shock, he scratched a message on a nearby stone:

"Today, my best friend saved my life"

Ismail who had saved and slapped his best friend Ibrahim, asked him, "Why, after
I hurt you, you wrote in the sand, and now you write on a stone?"

Ibrahim, smiled and replied:

"When a friend hurts us, we should write his deeds in the sand, where the winds
of forgiveness can blow it away, and when a friend does something good, we
should engrave it in stone, where it shall remain for eternity."

iwish that one day all muslims would in sha' allah gathered on one man's
heart..to be one hand and brothers, sisters in allah..ameen

The best dirt cleaner

Abu Umamah (RA) narrates: Rasulullah (SAW) said: Whoever stands up to perform
his Wudhu, intending to offer Salah, then cleans his hands; the sins of his two
hands fallout with the first drop of water. Then, when he rinses his mouth, and
draws water into his nose and expels it; the sins of his tongue and two lips
fallout with the first drop of water. Then, as he cleans his face, the sins of
his hearing and seeing fallout with the first drop (of water). Then, when he
cleans his two arms past the elbows, and his two feet past the ankles; he
becomes free of all his offences and sins, just as was his state, the day his
mother gave him birth. He (then) said: Then, when he stands for Salah; Allah
elevates his position Source: Musnad Ahmad.

We take bath regularly to clean our body of dirts, but how many of us offer
regular prayers daily to clean the real dirts (sins)?

An amazing incident

Miraculous story of how Dr. Bilal Abdul Alim became a Muslim:

Personally, I embraced Islam at the age of 24, in the summer of 1975, while
studying medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. After a long
day of study, I went to bed on a Saturday night with no intention of becoming a
Muslim. However, 2 things happened during that night that would change my life
completely. First of all, I had a dream in which I was commanded by a strong and
firm voice, to embrace Islam immediately. I was reminded of how I had previously
studied comparative religion at Wesleyan University, but refused to accept Islam
even though I felt in my heart that it was the most practical way of life. When
I woke up the next morning, I sat on the edge of the bed contemplating what to
do, when the telephone rang. The call came from my ex-roommate from Wesleyan who
had embraced Islam after graduation and was living in Washington, D.C. At that
time, he was studying to be an attorney at Catholic University School of Law.
This phone call was the second and final thing, that convinced me to embrace
Islam immediately.

My friend asked me, “Are you ready to become a Muslim?” I replied, “Why are you
calling me this early in the morning with such a question?” He answered in the
following way, “Last night, I had a dream. In that dream, I saw you smiling,
surrounded by a sort of spiritual light (called Noor in Islam). Then, I heard a
strong and powerful voice saying, ‘Allah has made this man a Muslim in the night
and Allah has given him the name, Bilal Abdul-Alim (3 times). So, your job is to
call him in the morning, and invite him to accept Islam and, give him his new
name.” My friend continued by saying, “Don’t play games with me! Tell me what
happened!” I then related my experience the night before with tears in my eyes.
A few days later, I drove non-stop from Houston, Texas to Washington, D.C to
accept Islam in the presence of my dear friend, Attorney Haroun G. Cook.

A Feast for Clothes

Once upon a time in the Iranian city of Shiraz, there lived the famous poet
Sheikh Saadi. Like most other poets and philosophers, Sheikh Saadi was not a
rich man. He led a very simple life. A rich merchant of Shiraz invited Sheikh
Saadi along with a lot of other big businessmen of the town on the occasion of
his daughter’s marriage which was to be a grand affair. Sheikh Saadi accepted
the invitation and decided to attend.

On the day of the wedding, the host and his family were receiving the guests at
the gate. They were ushering all the guests towards the dining hall. All the
rich people of the town attended the wedding. They had come out in best of their
attires. Sheikh Saadi wore simple clothes which were neither grand nor
expensive. He waited in a corner for someone to approach him but no one gave him
as much as even a second glance. Even the host did not acknowledge him and
looked away. Seeing all this, Sheikh Saadi quietly left the party and went to a
shop from where he could hire clothes. There he chose a richly brocaded dress
which was embroidered in gold on the margins. He selected a fancy turban and a
waist-band to go with it. As he put on the hired dress and looked into the
mirror, he found himself a changed person.

With this, he entered the dining hall and this time was welcomed with open arms.
The host embraced him as he would do to an old friend and complimented him on
the clothes he was wearing. On seeing him, he said, “And here comes our
favourite poet. What took you so long, friend? We have been waiting for you for
ages! How good of you to have come. The gathering surely would have been
incomplete without your gracious presence!” Saadi did not utter a word and
allowed the host to lead him to the dining room where other guests had
assembled. Tasty dishes had been laid out on grand carpets. Saadi was offered a
seat with soft cushions. The food was served in fine crockery and cutlery made
out of silver.

The host led Sheikh Saadi by hand and himself served out the chicken soup and
the fragrant rice to him. After this, something strange happened. Sheikh Saadi
dipped the corner of his waist-coat in the soup and sprinkled some rice on it.
Addressing the clothes, he said: “This is a feast for you, you should enjoy it.”

All the guests were now staring at him in surprise. The host said, “Sir, what
are doing? How can your colthes eat? And why should they? To this query, Sheikh
Saadi very calmly replied: “My dear friend, I am indeed surprised with the
question coming from you.”

“Aren’t you the same person who did not even throw a look at me when I came
dressed in simple clothes. I can guess that it is my clothes and appearance that
matter with you, not my individual worth. Now that I have put on grand clothes,
I see a world of difference in reception here. All that I can now say is that
this feast is meant for my clothes, not for me.”

Taken from Islamic Voice - S. Andaleeb

In so much islamic countries..still this accident happened Oh and so much
happening...although Allah said that there's no difference or priority between
muslims for the way they look like or wear...etc...only the difference between
them is measured and valued by how deep is their faith..and TAQWAH

Whose is the kingdom today?

When the Samanid ruler, Nasr bin Ahmad ( 301 - 331 A.H), entered Nishapur, he
held a court. After ascending the throne, he wanted the proceedings to be
started with the recitation from the Holy Qur'an. At this an elderly pious man
came forward and recited a section of the surah Al- Mu'min. When he came to the
verse (On that Day it will be asked:) "Whose is the Kingdom today?"

Nasr was struck with awe; he descended the throne trembling, took off the crown
and fell down in prostration, saying: "O my Lord, Kingdom is Yours, not mine!"

A bird's nest

Recently, we attended a speech given by a scholar from USA. The speech was
mainly about the Greatness of Allah. Here is one interesting excerpt from the
lecture: A poet said "Who has taught the birds how to make their nests? The
birds make their nests in such a way as if a king is building his palace
according to his desires." The birds create beautiful houses with the help of
their beaks. They do not use a single stone or brick. They collect straws one at
a time and puts them in their place. Within a short time, the birds make a
comfortable nest for them to live in. The nest that the birds make using their
beaks are so dynamic that we can't even make them using our hands. Indeed, Allah
has given the birds this knowledge from His infinite bounties.

A scholar in China

A Muslim scholar (sheikh) was on a visit to China to give a series of lectures
to the local Muslim community. One day, he was scheduled to give a lecture at a
local hall and was about to take a taxi along with his companions to that
location.

They got into the taxi and the Sheikh asked about the length of time it would
take to get to the lecture hall. The taxi driver, through the interpreter,
answered "Two hours."

The Sheikh immediately turned to his companions and said: "well, we can't sit in
this taxi with the driver for two hours and not tell him about our religion. If
we did that then we would be no different than any other non-Muslim or kaffir
who uses this taxi. We are the people that Allah (SWT) chose to carry His
message and honoured us to be Muslims. It is our duty to tell this person about
Islam."

However, the driver was a native Chinese and didn't have a common language with
the Sheikh. They had to communicate through an interpreter.

Sheikh to interpreter: "Ask the man if he believes in any religion?"

Driver: "No, I don't believe in religion. I just get up in the morning, go to
work and earn money. At the end of the day, I collect my money, go buy some food
and drink for my family. What do I need religion for?"

Sheikh: "Ask this man if he has ever heard anything about Islam."

Driver: "Not much. I've seen a tape once and showed Muslims as violent people. I
don't know much else."

Sheikh: "Ask him about computers. What does he think of computer?"

Driver: "I think the computer is an excellent invention. It is very useful and
very sophisticated."

Sheikh: "Does he think that the computer could have invented itself or does he
think that a human being invented it?"

Driver: "A human invented it, of course. It is not capable of inventing itself."

Sheikh: "Which one is more complicated the computer or the human being?"

Driver: "The human being is more complicated, of course."

Sheikh: "O.K., if the computer must have been invented by a human being, then it
follows that a human being (which is more complicated) must also have a
creator."

Driver: "O.K."

Sheikh: "In Islam, we believe that Allah is the creator of human beings and all
other beings. Fine, now let's move on. Assume that you have never seen a
computer before and never heard of it. If I brought a computer to you and gave
it to you. Would you know what to do with it? Would you be able to use to its
full potential?"

Driver: "No, I wouldn't."

Sheikh: "Now, if I gave you a catalogue for the computer, then you will be able
to better use it? Correct?"

Driver: "Correct!"

Sheikh: "In Islam, we view Quran as the catalogue used by human beings to manage
their lives. Without this catalogue, they will ruin themselves! Now, if this
inventor of the computer assembled the machine and printed the catalogue, what
would be the next step? He would need to train some engineers and others on how
to spread the message about this machine. These people would, in turn, train
others and others until everyone knows about the machine. In the example of
Allah and Quran, the prophets of Allah play the role of the engineers. They
learn the message and teach it to others so that the message will spread.
Prophet Muhammad (saw) is the final messanger of Allah and he was ordered to
take the message to all human beings."

By this time, the trip was coming to an end and they almost reached the lecture
hall. But the Sheikh can see that there were tears coming out of the driver's
eyes. The words of the Sheikh was having a significant effect on this driver.

Driver: "These ideas are very interesting to me. Do you mind spending 15 more
minutes with me to tell me about this religion?"

The Sheikh agreed to spend those few minutes with this person and did. The man
asked many questions and seemed genuine in his desire to learn more about this
religion. At the end of these few minutes, the driver said: "I want to join this
religion of yours. How do I do that?"

He was told that all he needs to do is say: "I bear witness that there is no God
but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad (saw) is his servant and messenger."

your remarks on vegans being white supremists is totally out of hand
and wrong, and I joined this group just to tell you. I am NOT a
white supremist! You are very ignorant. I joined the group just to
tell you so. If you will ever watch Mississippi Burning you will see
who the white supremist are: usuallly radical conservatives. Most
of the celebrities are animal rights, probably you watch a lot of
their movies and films and do not even know they're animal rights.
But for you to made such a blatant, ignorant statement shows your
total stupidity. Now I have to figure out how to unsubscribe to this
group.Because it sounds so one-sided and hateful that I do not even
want to view any more messages.

ru4ryla keeps insisting that vegans are "supremacists." That is
false. What about black vegans? When I lived in LA there was a
black man who owned a vegetarian restaurant-The Orean Express. Also
in the National Enquirer (june l7) on the stands now-there is a piece
on "Supremacists", Usually some of them come from the deep South-
Texas, Louisana, North Caroline (in the National Enquirer), etc. The
Deep South that "hates" animals and abuses them in their "hunts."
Also, Texas wants to legalize "horse meat" the only state with 2
horse slaughter plants.

Hey Knoface,
You are wrong about your views. Vegans are not cocky. Some meat
eaters are like Jim Basile, but some are nice, like the Spanish guy I
met tonight who works at Oscar Mayer. Jim B, was a horses ass, but
for you to come out and state that shows you are ignorant. Some meat
eaters "preach" by the same token, some Vegans "preach". Meat
isnot "natural." Did you know that our intestines stretch for over a
mile long and that when that "meat and dairy" digest over a 24-hour
period it is in a "heater?"-our body heat? That is why so many old
people in the nursing homes have colon cancer-because those toxins
and bacteria build up and poison the body. If that is natural-more
power to ykou, buddy. Predatory animals intestines stretch out for
only a few feet, unlike ours, which stretch out about 100 feet, so
they can eat meat and be well but when we do we just make ourselves
sick. Didyou know that people in Asia and India do not get sick from
diseases because they eat lots of rice but die of old age? Cancer
and heart disease are almost nil in those countries.

The Bitter Harvest
By Muhammad Al-Shareef

I was a teacher in the Qur'anic study circle at our neighborhood Masjid
at the time. I would see this young boy after Maghrib prayers, you
might say he was about fifteen years old. He held a pocket Qur'an and sat
alone reading from it - no, he wasn't actually reading from it, he was
just trying to make it seem as if he was.

Now and again, he would shyly steal a few glances at us, curious to
know what we were doing. Once in awhile, you might see him straining to
make out what we were talking about.
Every time I caught his eye, he would avert his head and continue with
his recitation, as if he had not intended to look this way.

Day after day, he sat in the same reserved manner, revealing the same
timid glance. Finally after Isha Salah one day, I resolved to confront
him.

"As Salamu 'Alaykum, my name is Salman, I teach the Qur'ânic study
circle in this Masjid."
'And my name is Khalid.'

Strange, he replied so fast, as if he had been waiting to share this
piece of information for such a long time and expected to be asked.

"Where do you study Khalid?"

'In the Eighth grade … and I … I love the Qur'an a lot.'

Strange indeed, why did he add that last sentence?

Confidently, I asked him, "Listen Khalid, have you got any free time
after Maghrib? We would be honored to have you join us in the class."

'What? The Qur'an? The Halaqah? Yes … why, yes of course (happiness
overcame him). I'll be there, Insha'Allah.'

That night, I couldn't think of anything other than this young boy and
the haze that surrounded his behavior. Sleep would just not come.

I attempted to interpret an answer for what I saw and heard, but there
was none. A verse of poetry came to mind: 'the coming days shall
unravel the mystery / and the news may appear from where you could never
see.'

I turned on my right side and slipped my right hand under my cheek. O
Allah, I have surrendered myself to You and to You I turn over my
affairs.

***

Subhan Allah, how the calendar was jogging by. Khalid was now a regular
in our Qur'anic circle, energetic and successful in memorization. He
was friends with everyone and everyone was friends with him. You could
never catch him without a Qur'an in his hand, or find him in any other
line in Salah other than the first.

There was nothing wrong with him except for his occasional long lapses
of attention. There were times when his stoned eyes would reflect the
fathomless thought going on in his mind. Sometimes we knew his body was
with us, but his soul was somewhere else, suffocating in another world.

Occasionally, I would startle him. All he had was a mumble to reply
with, he would have been the first to admit its fabrication.

One night, I walked with him after class to the beach shore. Maybe his
big secret might meet something equally large, relax somewhat, and
release its distress and pain.

We arrived at the beach and traced the waves. The full moon was out.

A strange sight. The darkness of the night found the darkness of the
sea, with a lit moon in-between them.

It sat somewhat embarrassed at its intrusion, similar to my shyness
towards Khalid right then.

The rays of the silent moon rested on the silent waves of the sea. I
stood behind the silent boy. The scene was silence.

Just then!

It all shattered and crushed to the ground as the young boy fell to the
bottom, bleeding his heart with tears. I chose not to interrupt
Khalid's emotional release, perhaps the saltiness of his tears might help him
relax and cleanse his distress.

After a few moments he said from behind his tears, 'I love you all … I
love the Qur'an … and those who love it. I love pious brothers, moral,
pure brothers.

'But … my father … it's my father.'

"Your father? What is wrong with your father Khalid?"

'My father always warned me not to hang around with you people. He's
afraid. He hates you all. And he always tries to convince me that I
should hate you too. At any chance he gets, he'll try to prove his point
with stories and tales.

'But … when I saw you people in the Halaqah reciting Qur'an, I saw
something entirely different. I saw the light in your faces, the light in
your clothes, the light in your words, even when you were silent I could
see the light even then.

'I doubted my father's tales and that's why I would sit after Maghrib,
watching you, pretending that I was part of the circle, trying to share
in the light.

'I … I remember Ustadh Salman … I remember the time you approached me
after 'Isha prayer. I'd been waiting for that moment for such a long
time. When I began the classes, my soul locked itself into a world of
purity with your souls. I began the circle and was persistent. I wouldn't
sleep, my days and nights became Qur'an. My father noticed the change in
my routine. He found out, one way or another, that I had joined the
circle and that I was now hanging out with "terrorists."

'Then, on a dark night…

'We were waiting for father to come home from the coffee shop, his
daily ritual, so that we could all have dinner together.

'He entered the house with his hardened face and slaps of anger.

'We all sat together at the dinner mat. Silence settled on the
gathering as usual, all of us were afraid to speak in his presence.

'He knifed the silence with his roaring and immediate voice. "I heard
you're hanging out with the fundamentalists."

'I was caught red. My tongue looped and failed. All the words in my
mouth attempted to come out at the same time. But, he didn't wait for the
answer…

'He snatched the teakettle and threw it maliciously at my face.

'The room spun and the colors united before my eyes. I stopped
distinguishing the ceiling from the walls from the floor, and fell.

'My mother held me.

'A damp cloth on my forehead reminded me of where I was. The vicious
voice turned on my mother, "Leave him alone, or you'll be in the same
lot."

'I crawled out of my mother's lap and whimpered away to my room. He
followed me down the corridor with the cruelest curses.

'There was not a day that he didn't beat me in some way. Curses, kicks,
throwing whatever was nearest to his hand. My body had finally become a
shiver of fear, grotesque colors formed all over. I hated him.

'One day while we were sitting at the dinner mat, he said, "Get up,
don't eat with us."

'Before I could get up though, he pounced immediately and kicked me in
the back, making me slam into the pots.

'At that moment, lying there on there on the ground, I pretended to
stand taller than him and shout back in his face…

'One day, I'll pay you back. I'll beat you just like you beat me, and
curse you just like you cursed me.

'I'll grow up and become strong. And you'll get old and become feeble.

'And then … I'll treat you just like you treated me. I'll pay you back.

'After that, I left home and ran away. I just ran, anywhere, it didn't
matter anymore.

'I found my way to this beach. It helped me wash away some of the
sadness. I held my pocket Qur'an and began reciting until I could continue
no longer because of my excessive crying.'

And here, a few of those innocent tears descended again, tears that
sparkled under the moon like pearls under a lamp. I couldn't say anything,
the surprise had arrested my tongue.

Should I be aghast at this beast of a father, whose heart knew nothing
about mercy? Or, should I be amazed at this patient young lad, whom
Allah had wished guidance for and inspired with faith.

Or, should I be shocked at them both, at the father-son bond that had
broken, causing their relationship to transform into that of a lion and
a tiger, or a wolf and a fox.

I held his warm hand and wiped away a tear from his cheek. I reassured
him, prayed for him, and advised him to remain obedient to his father.
I told him to remain patient and that he was not alone. I promised that
I would meet his father, speak to him, and try to evoke his mercy.

***

That incident slipped further away with each passing day. I tried
thinking of ways to open Khalid's case with his father. How should I speak
to him? How was I going to be convincing? To be frank, how was I even
going to knock on his door?

Then finally, I collected my courage, rehearsed my plan, and resolved
that the confrontation … uh, meeting … would be that day at five
o'clock.

When the time arrived, I left for Khalid's house with all my ideas and
questions for his father dangling from my pockets.

I rang the doorbell. My fingers trembled and my knees were melting. The
door opened. There it was, standing in the shadow with it's frowned
lips and veins beating with anger.
I tried beginning with a candid smile. Maybe it might smooth out some
of the wrinkles before we even started.

He snatched my collar and jerked me towards him. 'You're that
fundamentalist that teaches Khalid at the Masjid, aren't you?'

"Well … uh … yes."

'God help me, if I ever see you walking with him again, I'll break your
legs. Khalid won't be coming to your class anymore.'

And then, he mustered all the saliva in his mouth and spit on my face.
The door slammed behind it.

Slowly, I unfolded a tissue that was in my pocket, wiped what he had
honored me with, and retreated down the stairs consoling myself. Allah's
Messenger - sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam - suffered more than this. They
called him a liar, cursed him, stoned him with rocks and caused his
feet to bleed. They broke his teeth and placed dung on his back and
expelled him from his house.

***

Day after day. Month after month. No sign of Khalid. His father forbade
him from leaving the house, even for the congregational prayer. He even
forbade us from seeing or meeting him. We prayed for Khalid …

Until we forgot about him. Years passed away.

One night, after the 'Ishâ' prayer, a shadow walked behind me in the
Masjid and rested a familiar harsh hand on my shoulder. The same hand
that held me years ago. The same face, the same wrinkles and the same
mouth that honored me with what I was not deserving of.
But ... something had changed. The savage face had shattered. The angry
veins had subsided, belittled and still. The body looked tired of all
the pain and conflict, weakened by sadness and grief.

"How are you?" I kissed his forehead and welcomed him. We took a corner
of the Masjid. He collapsed on my lap sobbing.

Subhan Allah, I never thought that that lion would one day become a
kitten.

Speak up. What's wrong? How is Khalid?

'Khalid!' The name was like a dagger piercing his heart, twisting
inside, and breaking off. His head slumped.

'Khalid is no longer the same boy that you used to know. Khalid is no
longer the generous, calm and humble young lad.

'After he left your circle he befriended a pack of evil boys, ever
since he was little he loved to socialize. They caught him at that time of
life when a youth wants to leave the house. Vanity, jokes.

'He began with cigarettes. I cursed him, beat him. But there was no
use, his body had grown accustomed to the beatings, his ears were used to
the curses.

'He grew quickly. He started staying up with them all night, not coming
home until dawn. His school expelled him.

'Some nights he would come home to us speaking abnormally, his face
loose, his tongue confused, his hands shivering.

'That body, which used to be strong, full, and tender, passed away.
What remained was a feeble worn frame. That pure frosty face of his
transformed. It became dark and filthy. The scum of misguidance and sin clung
to it.

'Those shy and simple eyes of his changed. They shot red like fire as
if everything he drank or took showed immediately in his eyes like some
sort of punishment, in this life before the next.

'Hostility and disrespect replaced that shyness and cowardice he once
knew. Gone was that soft, respectful young heart. In it's place grew a
hardened center, like a rock, if not harder.
'Seldom a day would pass without incident. He would either curse, kick,
or hit me. Imagine it, my own son. I'm his father, yet he still hits
me.'

After releasing all that, his eyes returned wet and bitter. But, he
added quickly, 'I beg you Salman, visit Khalid. Take him with you, you
have my blessing, the door is open.

'Pass by him sometime. He loves you. Register him in the Qur'anic study
circle. He could go with you on field trips. I have no objection. In
fact, I am even willing to allow him to live in your homes and sleep
over.

'The important thing, Salman … the important thing is that Khalid
returns to the way he was.
'I beg you lad, I'll kiss your hands, warm your feet, I beg you and beg
you…'

He collapsed, crying and wheezing, into the memories of the grief and
pain. I allowed him to complete everything he had to say.

Then I addressed him…

"Despite what has passed, let me try. Brother, you planted this seed.
And this is your harvest."

The Needy One
Prepared by Muhammad Alshareef

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shaykh Sa'eed ibn Musfir tells the following account..

I was walking out of the Haram (the Ka'bah in Makkah) when I saw a man
begging from everyone that passed by him.

Just then a man who had parked his tinted Mercedes excessively close to
the Haram in a designated VIP parking walked passed the beggar on his
way to his car. As he pulled the keys out and the alarm did the 'whup
whup', the beggar raised his finger to the sky and said, "Please, for the
sake of Allah!"

Trying to end the moment and avoid a dip into the pocket, the Mercedes
man said back, "Allah will provide!"

The beggar said back, "What! Did you at any moment think that I thought
YOU were my provider! I'm not asking for your provision, I KNOW Allah
will provide for me."

Shaykh Misfir continues…The two stood there staring at one another for
a moment and then the Mercedes tinted windows came up and the man drove
away.

A needy African sister who was sitting nearby on the street selling
textiles was moved by the incident. She did not have much, but from what
she did have, she pulled out 1 riyal and placed it in the hands of that
beggar. He smiled and went on his way.

Meanwhile the Mercedes man could not drive on with the choke of guilt.
He turned the car around and made his way through the crowd to the
place where the incident had happened.

Shaykh Misfir says...I saw with my own eyes as he pulled out a 10 riyal
bill from his briefcase to give to the beggar. But he looked left and
right and could not find him.
What was he to do? He had already pulled out the bill to give for the
sake of Allah and was not going to put it back. So he found the nearest
person he thought was worthy of the bill, placed it in her lap and went
on his way.

The 10 riyals sat in the lap of the sister that had given the beggar!

Rasul Allah - sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam - said, "Charity never
decreases a person's wealth."

According to Quran and Sunnah

Revelation of Al-Hijab

Hadith - Bukhari 1:148
The wives of the Prophet used to go to Al-Manasi, a vast open place (near Baqia
at Medina) to answer the call of nature at night. 'Umar used to say to the
Prophet "Let your wives be veiled," but Allah's Apostle did not do so. One night
Sauda bint Zam'a the wife of the Prophet went out at 'Isha' time and she was a
tall lady. 'Umar addressed her and said, "I have recognized you, O Sauda." He
said so, as he desired eagerly that the verses of Al-Hijab (the observing of
veils by the Muslim women) may be revealed. So Allah revealed the verses of
"Al-Hijab" (A complete body cover excluding the eyes).

The Noble Qur'an - Al-Ahzab 33:59
O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to
draw their cloaks (veils)* all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves
completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better,
that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed.
And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

*the arabic word here is Jalabeeb (plural of Jalbaab), which is the loose
outer garment that covers all a woman's body. It says here to use the Jalabeeb
to cover all, and scholars say this means to use it to cover her head (agree
upon by all scholars) and her face (agreed by many scholars, not all) and one or
both eyes, in order for it to be known that she is a free woman and so not to be
exposed to any harm.

Hadith - Bukhari 6:282
'Aisha used to say: "When (the Verse): 'They should draw their veils over their
necks and bosoms,' was revealed, (the ladies) cut their waist sheets at the
edges and covered their faces with the cut pieces."

Hadith - Abu Dawud, Narrated Umm Salamah, Ummul Mu'minin
When the verse "That they should cast their outer garments over their persons"
was revealed, the women of Ansar came out as if they had crows over their heads
by wearing outer garments.

The lower half of the hijab is a garment that does not show the woman's figure.
Jeans and certain obvious garments do not meet this requirement.
Hadith - Abu Dawud, Narrated Dihyah ibn Khalifah al-Kalbi
The Apostle of Allah was brought some pieces of fine Egyptian linen and he gave
me one and said: Divide it into two; cut one of the pieces into a shirt and give
the other to your wife for veil. Then when he turned away, he said: And order
your wife to wear a garment below it and not show her figure.

Prescribed Methods of Covering
Tafseer - Ibn Katheer
"Allah commanded the muslim women to cover this sheet on top of them to cover
their bodies except one eye, when it is necessary for them to come out of their
homes."
Tafseer - Commentary by Ibn Jarir and Ahkam-ul-Quran, Vol.III, p.457
Imam Muhammad bin Sirin said: "When I asked Ubaida bin Sufyan bin al-Harith (ra)
the meaning of this verse and how the jalbaab was to worn, he demonstrated it to
me by pulling a sheet of cloth over his head to cover his entire body, leaving
the left eye uncovered. This was also the explanation of the word 'Alaihinna in
this verse"
Tafseer - Alu'si, Rul-ul-Ma'ani, Vol. 22, p. 89
"Ibn Jarir Tabari and Ibn Al-Mundhir described the method of wearing the jalbaab
according to Ibn Abbas (ra) and Qatadah (ra). The sheet should be wrapped around
from the top, covering the forehead, then bringing one side of the sheet to
cover the face below the eyes so that most of the face and the upper body is
covered. This will leave both eyes uncovered (which is allowed in necessity).

Color of Garment
The female companions were known to wear black and dark colors (such as the
hadith above, "crows on their heads"), but other colors are also permissible for
a woman to wear. She must not wear any color, however, in vanity.

Hadith - Sahih Al-Bukhari 7.715
...'Aisha said that the lady (came), wearing a green veil ...
Hadith - Sahih Al-Bukhari 7.733
that he had seen Um Kulthum, the daughter of Allah's Apostle (saaws), wearing a
red silk garment.
Hadith - Sahih Al-Bukhari 7.713
The Prophet (saaws) was given some clothes including a black Khamisa. The
Prophet said, "To whom shall we give this to wear?" The people kept silent
whereupon the Prophet said, "Fetch Um Khalid for me." I (Um Khalid) was brought
carried (as I was small girl at that time). The Prophet took the Khamisa in his
hands and made me wear it and said, "May you live so long that your dress will
wear out and you will mend it many times." On the Khamisa there were some green
or pale designs (The Prophet saw these designs) and said, "O Um Khalid! This is
Sanah." (Sanah in a Ethiopian word meaning beautiful).
Hadith - Sunan of Abu Dawood #4055, Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As
We came down with the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) from a turning of a
valley. He turned his attention to me and I was wearing a garment dyed with a
reddish yellow dye. He asked: What is this garment over you? I recognised what
he disliked. I then came to my family who were burning their oven. I threw it
(the garment) in it and came to him the next day. He asked: Abdullah, what have
you done with the garment? I informed him about it. He said: Why did you not
give it to one of your family to wear, for there is no harm in it for women.

Must a Woman Wear Niqab (Veil)?

The general understanding in Islam regarding Sunnah, is that if the Prophet
or any of his wives (RA) or companions (RA) are recorded in authentic hadith to
have engaged in an act that is not haram (prohibited) as defined by Qur'an or
Sunnah, then the act is declared halal (permissible). If the companions engaged
in an act that the Prophet was aware of and did not speak out against, it is
halal.
It is well-known that the wives of the Prophet covered their faces any
time non-mahram men were near. A woman named Asma, who was not a wife of the
Prophet , was also recorded as covering her face. Easily, one can conclude that
wearing veil is halal (permissible).
However, Muslims and Muslimahs across the world have been in "hot debate"
for centuries, over the issue of whether or not covering the face is obligatory
upon a Muslimah. Those who argue that it is not required, point to the use of
the word khimar in the Qur'an, and explain that today's modern khimar does not
cover the face, and argue that khimar has never referred to the covering of the
face, but only to that of the hair, neck, and bosoms. While one cannot deny the
support of Hadith that indicate that the Prophet's wives wore khimar, one must
realize that they also covered their faces at all times in the presence of
non-mahram men.
The group of scholars agree that it is a highly recommended act to cover
the face. The scholars also agree that a woman must cover her adornment, yet
some scholars argue that this does not include the face.
BASING ON CULTURE VS. QURAN AND SUNNAH. ...Most Muslim men, even in
America, would be pleased if their wives veil, but some state that a veil draws
too much attention, causing men to look upon her more than normal. However, one
must realize that when men 'look', they have nothing of her to see! Regardless,
this issue must stick to understanding and implementing Qur'an and Sunnah, and
not making excuses based on the current culture. Muslims are ordered not to
imitate the dress of any non-Muslim culture, so, surely, we cannot make the
choice to wear Niqab based on the pressures of modern day society; instead, we
choose, insha'Allah, to fear Allah, swt, and not mankind!
When in a state of ihram, the muslimah cannot wear niqab. However,
according to several scholars, such as Sheikh ibn Baz, even when in a state of
ihram, "she should lower her headcovering or outer cloak over her face when she
is in the presence of non-mahram men." So, it is to say that she should not
cover her face around the other women during ihram, but that she should cover it
if a non-mahram man approaches. He bases this on the hadith below, narrated by
'Aisha .

In Fathul Bari, chapter Hajj, a tradition reported on the authority of Aisha
(RA) says:

"A woman in a state of Ihram (during Hajj and Umrah) should stretch her head -
cloth over to her face to hide it."

Hadith - Recorded by Ahmad, Abu Dawud and ibn Majah, Narrated 'Aisha. [In his
work Jilbab al-Marah al-Muslimah, al-Albani states (p. 108) that it is hasan due
to corroborating evidence. Also, in a narration from Asma, Asma also covered
her face at all times in front of men.]
Narrated 'Aisha (RA) who said, "The riders would pass us while we were
with the Messenger of Allah ). When they got close to us, we would draw our
outer cloak from our heads over our faces. When they passed by, we would
uncover our faces."

According to Shaikh ibn Uthaimin, "she is not required to cover her face
during the prayer unless there are non-related men around her. She must then
cover her face from them, as it is not allowed for a woman to uncover her face
except to her husband and her male relatives i.e., mahram."
If a woman is not around any non-mahram men and does not fear that any will
enter her area of salah, she may reveal her face and hands. This is agreed upon
by the group of scholars.
So, whether agreeing that niqab is required or not, one must surely
acknowledge that it is a desirous sign of piety. What better example of sunnah
to follow for a muslimah than that of the Prophet and his wives RA. Every
Muslimah is encouraged to cover to the fullest, showing only one or both eyes.

Hadith - Muwatta 20.16
Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa that Fatima bint al-Mundhir
said, "We used to veil our faces when we were in ihram in the company of Asma
bint Abi Bakr as-Siddiq."

The following Fatawa is from Sheikh Ibn Uthaimin:
"The Islamic hijab is for the women to cover everything that is forbidden for
her to expose. That is, she covers everything that she must cover.
"The first of those bodily parts that she must cover is her face. It is the
source of temptation and the source of people desiring her. Therefore, the
woman must cover her face in front of those men that are not Mahram (i.e.
father, huband, etc.).
"As for those who claim that Islamic hijab is to cover the head, shoulders,
back, feet, shin and forearms while allowing her to uncover her face and hands,
this is a very amazing claim. This is because it is well-known that the source
of temptation and looking is the face. How can one say that the Shariah does no
allow the exposure of the foot of the woman while it allows her to uncover her
face?
"It is not possible that there could be in the Esteemed, Wise and Noble Shariah
a contradiction. Yet everyone knows that the temptation from uncovering the face
is much greater than the temptation that results from the uncovering of the
feet. Everyone also knows that the most sought after aspect of the woman for men
is the face. If you told a prospective groom that a woman’s face is ugly but her
feet are beautiful, he would not propose to such a woman.
"However, if you told him that her face was beautiful but her hands, palms, or
shins were less than beautiful, he would still propose to her. From this one can
conclude that the face is the first thing that must be covered.
"There are also evidences from the Book of Allah (SWT) and the Sunnah of our
Prophet (SAW). There are also statements from the Companions, the leading Imams
and the great scholars of Islam that indicate that it is obligatory for the
woman to cover all of her body in the presence of non-Mahram men. This obviously
indicates that it is obligatory upon the woman to cover her face in front of
such men."

Refutation For those who claim niqaab is not wajib and the face and hands of a
woman can be seen by (ghairMahrrum) strange men.

Refutation from Shaikh Ibn Uthaymeen
This is taken from the book "Hijaab" by Shaikh Ibn Uthaymeen from Saudi Arabia.
Printed by Madrasah Arabia Islamia Azaadville- South Africa.
Translated by Hafedh Zaheer Essack, Rajab 1416 (December 1995)

The Ulamah who are of the opinion that it is permissible to look at the face and
hands of a strange woman (who is not mahrrum) say so mainly for the following
reasons.
The hadeeth of Ayeshah (Radhiallaahu Ánha) when Asmaa (Radhiallaahu Ánha) the
daughter of Abu Bakr came to the Rasulullaah (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) while
wearing thin clothing. He approached her and said: 'O Asmaa! When a girl reaches
the menstrual age, it is not proper that anything should remain exposed except
this and this. He pointed to the face and hands. But this hadeeth is WEAK
because of 2 main weaknesses.

There is no link between Ayeshah (Radhiallaahu Ánha) and Khalid bin Dareek, who
narrated the hadith from her. And in every chain of narrators Khalid bin Dareek
is mentioned.

In the chain of narrators Sa'eed bin Basheer appears, who is known by most of
the Muhaditheen as being a weak narrator.

This has been mentioned by Imaam Ahmad bin Hanbal (Rahimahullah), An-Nasai
(Rahimahullah), Ibn Madeeni (Rahimahullah) and Ibn Ma'een (Rahimahullah). This
is also why Imaam Bukhari (Rahimahullah) and Muslim (Rahimahullah) did not
except this hadeeth to be in their books. (From Shaikh Ibn Uthaymeen in the book
"Hijaab" pages # 17 and 18.)
We also have to see that the Muhadith Abu Dawood when he quoted this hadeeth put
with it that it is Mursal (with a broken chain that does not lead up to the
Sahabah).
(From The Book "Hijaab wa Safur" under the fatwaa of Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Bazz
on Page #61. Also stated as being weak by Shaikh Nasiruddeen Al-Albaani in his
Daeef Sunan Abu Dawud in Kitab-ul-Libas under hadeeth number 4092 (which is the
original hadeeth number.)
An other thing that shows the weakness of this hadith is that after the ayah for
hijab (Surah Al-Ahzaab – Verse #59) was revealed then the women of Sahaba wore a
complete veil and covered the faces and hands. This includes Asmaa (Radhiallaahu
Ánha) the daughter of Abu Bakr, who is supposed to have narrated this hadeeth.
Asmaa (Radhiallaahu Ánha) covered herself completely including the face, this
has been narrated in authentic hadeeth in Imaam Malik's "MUWATTA Book 20 Hadeeth
# 20.5.16."

What Age Must a Female Wear Niqab?

It is unquestionable that a female must begin covering by the age of
puberty. What is not agreed upon is what exact age that is. Some say that
covering commences the day of her first menstrual cycle, others say at the first
sign of pubic hairs. Those weak in iman (faith) will look at the kafir system's
designation of "teenager" as the age of puberty, i.e. they use the age 13.
In all situations, Muslims are to use the Prophet's example for guidance.
The Prophet married 'Aisha before she had reached puberty and consummated the
marriage when she was approximately 9 years old. We do not know precisely what
he used to determine that she reached puberty, and we don't even know the exact
age that he consummate the marriage, so the issue of puberty is not necessarily
a clear cut age to be applied universally to all, but a recognition of the
change to woman from child. The earliest pregnancy recorded was that of a seven
year old girl, and we know that a menstral cycle does not have to start before
some are capable of becoming pregnant. May Allah swt guide each parent to
adequately prepare the daughter in time. Amin.
If a mother or father recently converts to Islam and has a daughter who has
reached puberty, s/he should immediately begin covering the daughter. The
parents should educate the daughter to understand and appreciate the reasons and
advantages for covering as a Muslimah is instructed to. The new revert to Islam
should not feel apologetic for covering a daughter who was not previously
covering. It is as much of an advantage to her as to the new adult muslimah
revert, and children do not always know what is best for them, so, like other
decisions you make daily for your children, do not leave the issue of wearing
hijab up to your children. Make the transition as a family, not you first, then
just hoping the children follow suit on their own.
Some guidelines for preparing a child for hijab.
It is encouraged that as soon as the child is able to walk, she does not wear
clothes that resemble the kafr, and that she should always have her knees and as
much as possible of the arms and legs covered when leaving the house or having
guests over.
She should be taught modesty in behavior and dress from the cradle.
It is ideal to sew small jilbabs (light overcoats) and khimaar
(head/neck/chest covering) for the young muslimah, properly preparing her for
full coverage at puberty. It is actually less fitnah on the parent to dress her
in the simple attire of a muslim, as compared to looking for fashionable clothes
in a shopping mall.
At the age of 7, the parent should order her to pray salah, and of course,
she must be wearing hijab (the entire head and body covering) for the salah.
By the age of 10, her parents may and should punish her for missing fard
(obligatory) salah, and once again, she must be wearing hijab to perform salah.
When she reaches puberty, insha'Allah, she will wear niqab (literally: draw
the khimaar over her face).
By the age of puberty, she should already be used to wearing hijab (which is
in her fitrah [natural state] to be covered).
She may have already chosen to veil prior to reaching puberty, and with the
proper instruction, she will look forward to and embrace this step in becoming a
young woman.
Hijab is not something a muslim parent gives as an option to a child. The
muslim parent is responsible for seeing that the young muslimah is properly
covered according to Qur'an and Sunnah.
Parents will have to determine when their daughter has reached puberty, not
the child, unless of course, she is a muslim revert with non-Muslim parents, in
which case she should seek the counsel of a muslim wali.

Depending on a woman's environment, she may simply keep her face uncovered
and then draw the khimaar up over her face on the rare occasion of a
non-mahram's presence; or, if this is too much fitnah to constantly draw it over
her face, such as circumstances when men are frequently present, she may choose
to affix a screen (i.e. the Niqab) that does this for her without her needing to
use a hand to hold it over her face.

Hadith - Bukhari, Narrated Hishams father
Khadija died three years before the Prophet departed to Medina. He stayed
there for two years or so and then he married 'Aisha when she was a girl of six
years of age, and he consumated that marriage when she was nine years old.

Hadith - Abu Dawud, narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin
[Also recorded al-Tirmidhi, Ahmad, and ibn Majah. Al-Albani says it is sahih.
Al-Albani, Sahih al-Jami, vol. 2, p. 1280.]
The Prophet said: Allah does not accept the prayer of a woman who has reached
puberty unless she wears a khimaar.

Hadith - Dawud, Narrated As-Saburah
[Also recorded by Ahmand and al-Hakim. Al-Syuti has give in a notation
signifying that it is authentic. Al-Albani has graded it hasan. Al-Albani, Sahih
al-Jami, vol. 2, p. 1021.]
The Prophet said: Order your children to pray at the age of seven. And beat
them [lightly] if they do not do so by the age of ten. And separate them in
their bedding.

Who Can She Uncover in front of?

A Muslimah should not uncover her adornment in front of any non-Mahrahm
male. Muslimahs should especially be careful and remain covered, modest, and
quiet around in-laws.
If a gay male is aware of female body parts, he should not be allowed to
view a woman uncovered. And, of course, a bi-sexual male should not be allowed
to view a woman without proper covering.
In addition, a Muslimah should not uncover that which she normally
uncovers, in front of any non-Muslim female whom she fears may describe her to
others. She may also choose to remain covered around any Muslim female whom she
fears may describe her physical attributes to their husband or others.

The Noble Qur'an - An-Nur 24:30-31
Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things),
and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.). That is purer
for them. Verily, Allâh is All-Aware of what they do.
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden
things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) and
not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like palms
of hands or one eye or both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer dress
like veil, gloves, head-cover, apron, etc.), and to draw their veils* all over
Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms, etc.) and not to reveal
their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's
fathers, their sons, their husband's sons, their brothers or their brother's
sons, or their sister's sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in
Islâm), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male
servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of the shame of
sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their
adornment. And all of you beg Allâh to forgive you all, O believers,
  that you may be successful.

            * the arabic word here is Khumaar, which is the plural form of
Khimaar.

Hadith - Bukhari 7:167
The Prophet said, "A woman should not look at or touch another woman to
describe her to her husband in such a way as if he was actually looking at her."

Hadith - Muslim, narrated Aisha
A eunuch used to come to the wives of Allah's Apostle and they did not find
anything objectionable in his visit considering him to be a male without any
sexual desire. Allah's Apostle one day came as he was sitting with some of his
wives and he was busy in describing the bodily characteristics of a lady and
saying: As she comes in front four folds appear on her front side and as she
turns her back eight folds appear on the back side. Thereupon Allah's Apostle
said: I see that he knows these things; do not, therefore, allow him to enter.
She (Aisha) said: Then they began to observe veil from him.

Hadith - Al-Tirmidhi #3109, narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud [Tirmidhi transmitted
it.]
The Prophet said, "A woman should be concealed, for when she goes out the devil
looks at her."

Muslimahs should not socialize with non-mahram men, and should only speak
out of necessity to non-mahram men. Allah swt knew that mankind would be
tempted to let their guard down and their hijab down, around in-laws. Surely
Allah swt is all merciful to provide us the guidance we need in every aspect of
our lives. In reference to socializing with in-laws, such close relations can
easily lead to adultery which has the death penalty.

Hadith - Bukhari and Muslim
The Prophet said, "The in-laws are death."

Shaking Hands

Men and women should not shake hands outside the mahram ties.

Hadith - Recorded by Malik, Ahmad, al-Nasai, al-Tirmidhi and ibn Majah.
[Al-Albani has graded it sahih. Al-Albani, Sahih al-Jami, vol. 1, p. 494.]
The Prophet said, "I do not shake the hands of women."

Hadith - Bukhari 9:321 (& 7:211)
The Prophet used to take the Pledge of allegiance from the women by words only
after reciting this Holy Verse: (60.12) "..that they will not associate anything
in worship with Allah." (60.12) And the hand of Allah's Apostle did not touch
any woman's hand except the hand of that woman his right hand possessed. (i.e.
his captives or his lady slaves).

Hadith - Sahih Muslim, narrated 'A'isha
By Allah, the hand of the Messenger of Allah never touched the hand of a woman.
By Allah, the Messenger of Allah never took any vow from women except that
which Allah had ordered him to take, and his palm never touched the palm of a
woman. When he had taken their vow, he would tell that he had taken the oath
from them orally.

Speech

Wearing hijab must be accompanied by the proper mannerisms and speech
befitting a modest, pious woman. She should not draw attention to her voice or
use it in a soft, pleasing manner that may tempt a man.
Similarly, a muslim man should avoid being around women who speak soft
(i.e. speak "sweet", flirt, are excessively thankful, etc), should definitely
turn his eyes downward his eyes if viewing (even briefly) such a woman on t.v.,
and should not listen to female singers.

The Noble Qur'an - Al-Ahzab 33:32
O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women. If you keep your duty
(to Allâh), then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of
hypocrisy, or evil desire for adultery, etc.) should be moved with desire, but
speak in an honourable manner.

Muslim men and women should speak calmly and controlled, not raising the
voice, except out of necessity, such as yelling 'stop!' to a child who is about
to cross a busy intersection without looking, etc.

The Noble Qur'an - Luqman 31:18-19
And turn not your face away from men with pride, nor walk in insolence through
the earth. Verily, Allâh likes not each arrogant boaster.
And be moderate (or show no insolence) in your walking, and lower your voice.
Verily, the harshest of all voices is the voice (braying) of the ass.

Ridiculing a Woman in Niqab

The Noble Qur'an - At-Taubah 9:64-67
The hypocrites fear lest a Sûrah (chapter of the Qur'ân) should be revealed
about them, showing them what is in their hearts. Say: "(Go ahead and) mock! But
certainly Allâh will bring to light all that you fear."
If you ask them (about this), they declare: "We were only talking idly and
joking." Say: "Was it at Allâh (swt), and His Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses,
lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger that you were mocking?"
Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed. If We pardon some
of you, We will punish others amongst you because they were Mujrimûn
(disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.).
The hypocrites, men and women, are from one another, they enjoin (on the people)
Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief and polytheism of all kinds and all that Islâm has
forbidden), and forbid (people) from Al-Ma'rûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all
that Islâm orders one to do), and they close their hands [from giving (spending
in Allâh's Cause) alms, etc.]. They have forgotten Allâh, so He has forgotten
them. Verily, the hypocrites are the Fâsiqûn (rebellious, disobedient to Allâh).

Women past child-bearing age who do not expect wedlock

The Noble Qur'an - An-Nur 24:60
And as for women past child-bearing who do not expect wedlock, it is no sin on
them if they discard their (outer) clothing in such a way as not to show their
adornment. But to refrain (i.e. not to discard their outer clothing) is better
for them. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.

---------------------------------------------------------

Teach the wives and daughters the value of wearing niqab; teach and encourage
them in this matter.
Teach the male muslim the importance of respecting a muslimah's privacy, that
he should not even inquire about the physical appearance of a woman for personal
reasons.
Fear Allah's commands only... not the criticisms of the kafr.
Recognize that wearing niqab is a blessing and protection for the woman, not
a stifling command.
Do not judge those who do not wear niqab; instead, show them Qur'an and
Sunnah on the matter and the rest is, as they say, "on them" to decide. Allah,
subhana watala, is the only true Judge.
Do not be alone with persons of the opposite sex.
Hadith - Bukhari 4.250, Narrated Ibn Abbas
That he heard the Prophet saying, "It is not permissible for a man to
be alone with a woman, and no lady should travel except with a Muhram (i.e. her
husband or a person whom she cannot marry in any case forever; e.g. her father,
brother, etc.)." Then a man got up and said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have enlisted
in the army for such-and-such Ghazwa and my wife is proceeding for Hajj."
Allah's Apostle said, "Go, and perform the Hajj with your wife."

Hadith - Recorded Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi. [Al-Albani says it is sahih.
Al-Albani, Sahih al-Jami, vol. 1, p. 234.]
The Prophet said, "A man is never alone with a woman except that Satan
is the third."

Do not touch persons of the opposite sex (except for dhu-mahram*).
Wear gloves if you are concerned that someone of the opposite sex may
touch you, such as when at work.
When receiving change from a cashier, you may want to have him/her lay it
on the counter, and then pick it up.
Only see a doctor or dentist that is the same gender that you are, unless
you have no choice after trying to arrange it as such.
When in the hospital, or other medical situations, insist that you remain
covered at all possible moments. For instance, those hospital gowns are NOT
acceptable for walking down the hall in, not even if you wear two of them as
they suggest for extra coverage. With modesty, request and insist upon
receiving a simple sheet to cover you entirely, or bring your own. Don't
worry... they will cooperate, insha'Allah.
Do not shake hands with the kufaar. There is a way to do it without being
offensive... for instance, look down and state, "My religion does not permit me
to do that," and immediately proceed with the conversation. Think about it...
that two-second awkward pause will have little to no effect on the business at
hand, insha'Allah. Trust Allah, subhana watala, and do not try to adapt to the
kaffir ways, and certainly don't do something for their approval. Do not be
deceived by shaytan to believe that you cannot survive in the business world if
you don't shake hands.
Realize that touching a person of the opposite sex shows great disrespect
for your spouse.
Develop habits that eliminate this form of touch... be adamant about not
making exceptions beyond "life or death" or absolutely necessary situations.

Do not engage in social conversation with persons of the opposite sex (except
for dhu-mahrahm*).
This is simple... just don't do it. When a kaffir of the opposite sex
asks you, "Did you have a good weekend," look down and say nothing in return, or
perhaps only respond with, "Fine, Alhamdulilah". If the person asks what,
"Alhamdulilah" means, drop some dawah, but make it very brief for members of the
opposite sex. Quickly offer to put them in touch with your husband (or your
wife if you are male and being approached by a female), or local imam.
You may choose to greet the muslim with "As sala'amu alaikum," but beyond
that, limit your conversation with the opposite sex to business, i.e. only that
which is necessary. Muslimahs are not required to greet male muslims.
Muslim men should not be the first to approach conversation with a
Muslimah, except out of necessity, i.e. "As sala'amu alaikum. You dropped your
$50 dollar bill; here it is."
This includes situations when online... do not engage in "Instant
Messages" or Email of a social or personal matter with members of the opposite
sex. Make the effort to find out what gender the person is before getting into
a personal private discussion.
       See The Noble Qur'an: al-Ahzab 32.

Desire to be known for the qualities of your character, not your looks.
Save your internal and external beauty for your husband alone
    * dhu-mahrahm:
A male whom a woman can never marry because of close relationship
(i.e. brother, father, uncle, etc.) or her own husband.

Remember... Allah, subhana watala, sees everything we do!

Yvonne Ridley: From Captive to Convert

"I promised that if they released me, I’d study Islam when I got back to
London. And what started out as an academic study has now turned into something
much more spiritual. I’m very impressed with what I’ve found."
Covered in a burqa from head to toe, Yvonne Ridley entered Afghanistan illegally
“to try and cover the humanitarian crisis and speak to those Afghan people who
couldn't or wouldn't leave the country.” Less than two weeks after the 9/11
attack, it was a time when traveling to Afghanistan posed great risk. “But
journalists do take risks while they're pursuing stories … Journalists will go
into hostile areas because by the very nature that is where the news story is,”
she said in a BBC interview.

She was captured on September 28th by the Taliban and kept in prison for 10
days. “The first six days I was detained in the intelligence headquarters in
Jalalabad and I was given a room with air-conditioning. I had access to a flush
toilet and shower so I was quite comfortable there under the circumstances. Then
I was moved to Kabul prison in the centre of the capital which was very basic.
It had no running water - if you wanted water, you had to crank a hand pump in
the courtyard outside and that was a real shock to the system.”

She was released 10 days later. She had no complaint about how she was treated.
“They treated me with the greatest courtesy and respect, and I know that jars
with a lot of people.”

After 1 year, she now surprises everyone by her plan to convert to Islam. In an
interview with Newsweek, she mentions how that happened:

“When I was captured, I was visited by an imam who asked me if I’d like to
convert. I thought if I just said yes, he’d say I was a fickle woman, and if I
said no, then it would be a huge insult to Islam. So I promised that if they
released me, I’d study Islam when I got back to London. And what started out as
an academic study has now turned into something much more spiritual. I’m very
impressed with what I’ve found.”

Bis'Millah'ir Rahman'ir Raheem

(In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful)

Yvonne Ridley

Islam is by far the most misunderstood religion in the world today thanks to
centuries of medieval-style propaganda successfully peddled by bigots and
Christian zealots. So I should not have been entirely surprised by the almost
hysterical reaction in the mainstream media to news that I am considering
becoming a Muslim. Some of the comments were *****y and snide, other journalists
asked me stupid questions showing a distinct lack of research or understanding.
One even accused me of suffering from Stockholm Syndrome as a result of spending
ten days in the hands of the Taliban!

My spiritual journey, like that for many converts/reverts, was meant to be a
personal affair between myself and God. Sadly it has now become a very public
issue and so I have decided to share with Q-News readers my feelings and
thoughts on Islam to prevent any more misunderstandings or misconceptions.

Yes, my journey did begin in the unlikely surrounds of an Afghan prison where I
was being held by the Taliban facing charges of entering their country illegally
disguised in the all-enveloping burqa. One day, during my captivity, I was
visited by a religious cleric who asked me what I thought of Islam and if I
would like to convert. I was terrified. For five days I had managed to avoid the
subject of religion in a country led by Islamic extremists. If I gave the wrong
response, I had convinced myself I would be stoned to death. After careful
thought I thanked the cleric for his generous offer and said it was difficult
for me to make such a life-changing decision while I was in prison. However, I
did make a promise that if I was released I would study Islam on my return to
London. My reward for such a reply was being sent to a ghastly jail in Kabul
where I was locked up with six Christian fanatics who faced charges of trying to
convert Muslims to their faith. (After being bombarded
with their bible readings, happy-clappy Christian songs and prayers twice a
day, I think we can discount the accusations of Stockholm Syndrome).

Several days later I was released unharmed on humanitarian grounds on the orders
of Mullah Omar, the Taliban's one-eyed spiritual leader. My captors had treated
me with courtesy and respect and so, in turn, I kept my word and set out to
study their religion. It was supposed to be an academic study but as I became
more engrossed with each page I turned I became more impressed with what I read.
I turned to several eminent Islamic academics, including Dr Zaki Badawi, for
advice and instruction. I was even given several books by the notorious Sheikh
Abu Hamza AI-Masri whom I spoke to after sharing a platform at an Oxford Union
debate. This latter snippet was seized upon by some sections of the media in
such a ridiculous fashion that outsiders might have thought I was going to open
a madrassa for AI-Qaeda recruits from my flat in Soho!

Thankfully the support and understanding I have been given from my brothers and
sisters (for I regard them as that) has been unstinting and comforting. Not one
of them has put pressure on me to become a Muslim and every convert/revert I've
spoken to has told me to take my time. One of the big turning points for me
happened earlier this year when the Israelis began shelling The Church of the
Nativity in Manger Square, one of the most precious monuments for Christians.
Every year thousands of school children re-enact the Nativity at Christmas time,
a potent symbol of Christianity. Yet, not one Church of England leader publicly
denounced the Israelis for their attack. Our Prime Minister Tony Blair, who
loves to be pictured coming out of church surrounded by his family, espousing
Christian values, was silent. Only the Pope had the guts to condemn this
atrocity. I was shocked and saddened and felt there was no backbone in my
religious leaders. At least with Islam I need no mediator or
conduit to rely upon, I can have a direct line with God anytime I want.

While I feel under no pressure to convert/revert by Muslims, the real pressure
to walk away from Islam has come from some friends and journalists who like to
think they're cynical, hard-bitten, hard-drinking, observers of the world.
Religion of any form makes them feel uneasy, but Islam, well that's something
even worse. You'd think I had made a pact with the devil or wanted to become a
grand wizard in the Ku Klux Klan.

Others feared I was being brainwashed and that I would soon be back in my burqa,
silenced forever like all Muslim women. This, of course, is nonsense. I have
never met so many well-educated, opinionated, outspoken, intelligent,
politically aware women in the Muslim groups I have visited throughout the UK.
Feminism pales into insignificance when it comes to the sisterhood, which has a
strong identity and a loud voice in this country. Yes, it is true that many
Muslim women around the world are subjugated, but this has only come about
through other cultures hijacking and misinterpreting the Quran (Saudis take
note).

I wish I had this knowledge (and I'm still very much a novice) when I was
captured by the Taliban because I would have asked them why they treated their
own women so badly. The Quran makes it crystal clear that all Muslims, men and
women are entirely equal in worth, spirituality and responsibility. Allah
ordained equality and fairness for women in education and opportunity. Fair
property law and divorce settlements were introduced for Muslim women 1400 years
ago; maybe this is where Californian divorce lawyers got their inspiration from
in recent years! The Quran could have been written yesterday for today. It could
sit very easily with any Green Party manifesto, it is environmentally friendly
and it is truly an inspiration for the 21st century, yet not one word has
changed since the day it was written, unlike other religious tomes. "It's more
punk than punk," musician Aki Nawaz of the band Fun-da-Mental recently told me.
And, of course he is right.

Non-Violence

The only nonviolent food (no killing or theft from animal or plant)
No branding, castration, or eartag punching of voiceless innocent
animals.

POTENTIALLY NONVIOLENT HARVESTING The most nonviolent in harvest as
well (prevention of harvester-caused deaths to humans and field
mammals) (75,000 human accidents and some fatalities yearly.. as well
as millions of mammals and other creatures sliced by combines,
harvesters) (Gandhi said goats' milk kept him from being a full
fruitarian.)

MOST GENEROUS the only freely given food, from the fruit tree which
bequeaths all
No Cost...Free:

The most free food (freely given and no cost are not the same)(bury
peachseeds in your back yard and come back)(May all who wish them
have back yards)

Saves meat inspector costs, cattle raising tax-supported subsidies
etc. etc.
Highest Yield:

Best feeds the hungry.. the food with the highest acreage yield
(400,000 lbs. per acre) (spherical 3 dimensional fruit trees produce
more than linear two dimensional rows of vegetables.) Dr. Faust,
former chief of the USDA fruit labs: Centenarian apple trees can drop
2 tons each of food. (This is further multiplied if fruitbearing
vines are planted around tree trunks and fruitbearing plants are
placed interarboreally. This is called tri-level agriculture.)

MOST DIVERSE food yield with millions of varieties of hundreds of
thousands of species.

Environmental Reasons

The only food which can reforest the world (saying yes to tree
products)
In reforesting the earth fruit and nut trees prevent erosion &
mudslides and stabilizes temperature extremes And brings rain to
desert, dust bowls and drought areas
And trees along with vines create oxygen
And purify and filter the air
And reduce the noise pollution of the planet.
The most efficiently wrapped (nutshells, banana peels, coconut husks)
The most decentralized (can be grown wherever are light, water,
earth, and air)
Fruit trees, bushes and vines provide the most fabric for the planet
(cotton etc.)
Fruit trees, bushes and vines provide housing materials (not in the
form of wood from the killing of trees but fallen palm fronds etc.
used in tropical housing.) 18b: Fruit eliminates the problem of flesh-
containing trash which attracts neighborhood cats and dogs.
In reforesting, fruitarian diet adds greentree privacy screens
Those who let things be have no time, money, or landfill problem with
the raking of fall leaves.
And re-provides a home for wildlife
And trees eat carbon dioxide which prevents global warming 22a:
Fastest to prepare.. the Goddesigned fast food is fruit.

Energy

Since fruit has the most prolific yield of any food, and since any
food can be turned into fuel, fruit (corn is only one of many) is one
of the best sources of alternative fuel. (Fox TV Jan 24th: High fiber
foods like oats give longer energy flow.)
The most energy free food in cultivation, harvest, and compost
disposal. (Dr. Don Meyer: a lb. of vegetables takes l/80th the
production energy of a lb. of animal flesh)(Fruit foods are in tri
level agriculture 450 times as energy efficient as meat)
Fruitarian soaps leave none or the least bathtub rings while animal
soaps (with lard or tallow) leave the most.
Fruitarian cotton paper lasts 400 years. Libraries are finding that
tree paper lasts 60 to 100 years.
Fruit is the most easily reproduced of of all foods. It can be
windsired.
The diet of humankind before we worked by the sweat of our brows
Because it is the most easily reproduced, and the most diverse, it
most easily makes new non-laboratory species.
Beauty

The most beautiful (stained glass lime.. green pepper belltower where
little seedbells hang)(fruits of almost infinite hues.. from most
intense to most pastel.. from red passion to violet compassion)
The food which most preserves the body's beauty (the most vitamin C
(none in animal products)(vitamin C firms cellular tissue)
Fruit is the sweetest food, meat the most bitter.
The most fragrant.. with petaled fruit blossoms which effortlessly
attract bees
Of all dietary groups, fruitarians on the average weigh the least
(Dr. Mervyn Hardinge Harvard study and others) (You can't be too rich
or too thin.. say the actuaries about centenarian men.) (The causes
of overweight are only tangentially overeating. Some of the root
causes are fear of starvation, fear of sexual intimacy, a need for a
weight blanket to counter sensitivity, unreleased anger, chewing as a
relaxation device.) There have been a number of fruitarian diet books
written, such as one on grapefruit, one on grape juice etc. Susan
Estrich, former Dukakis presidential campaign manager, currently a
law professor at UC, spoke of struggling with hundreds of diet books
and overweight for 30 years, says be prepared to walk past vending
machines by having apples in your purse or briefcase.

Addiction Breaking

The uric acid (pre-urine) in the muscle cells of animal flesh is an
addictive trioxypurine, even more so than caffeine (dioxypurine) A
diet of much fruit replaces addictive biochemicals.
The True Natural AntiDepressant

The adrenal poisons dumped by animals fighting for their lives in
slaughter re-create depression, fright, and anger in those eating the
animal flesh. Adrenalin is a long protein enzyme chain whose chain
links are only partially broken by cooking heat.
Frees from Alcoholism:

General Bramwell Booth of the Salvation Army found that vegetarian
diet is a natural antidote to the biochemical marriage of meat and
alcohol. Current researchers find that as alcohol solvents outside
the body cut grease, so do they inside. (May other cities have
proportionately as many corner fruit stands and fruit and smoothie
vendors as the Big Apple has.)
Fruits which are uncooked or eaten within 3 hours after cooking do
not develop sleep-inducing bacteria (known in ancient over 20,000
year old Sanskrit as tamasic)
Consciousness and Brain Development:

The food which most supports brain development and consciousness
(according to double Nobel Prize winning, nonagenarian
neurobiochemist Linus Pauling who discovered six elements in the
chemical table) (Fruitarianism is indicated by several
anthropologists including Dr. Leakey and Dr. Marvin Katz as
humankind's natural diet) (It is the diet of Leonardo da Vinci
according to his Notebooks as researched by Dudley Giehl,
HarperCollins author)(Mathematicians Einstein, (Pythagoras of the
theorem and Ramanujan did not eat flesh.)
The food which most supports mental and emotional peace (since the
polysaccharides in fruit provide the most even of all energy flows in
the body)
Chewing apples and coconut relaxes mouth and body muscles.
The most translucent..( the closest to pure light)(lime crosssection)
An antidote to the light resistance of lower frequency foods the
consumption of which creates a natural aversion to light
A sleep conquering agent (The Sanskrit word for the sleep-inducing
biochemicals in onions, garlic, and standing cooked meat is tamas.)
Empowerment:

The food which saves the most time (compare 3 hours for a roast to 20
seconds to peel a banana or 3 minutes to cook a fruitarian burger )
(Compare the time to scrub a roast pan and all the concomitant dishes
to the time required to compost a peel.)
Because fruit is so prolific, it melts away money, political and
outside control systems which depend upon scarcity.
Promotes Meditation:

As high quality wiring helps channel electricity into a home,
fruitarian diet is a ground for Spirit. Specifically lauric acid in
coconuts is conducive to a meditative, peaceful state.
Just as the infra-red to ultraviolet light spectrum increases in
frequency from red through orange and yellow to green blue and
violet, so in fruits and foods in general. Therefore, limes are
better than lemons. Violet grapes are better than crimson cherries.
Promotes Focus:

John Feinstein NPR Sports spoke of Bill Walton on the Portland
Blazers team scoring in 21 of 22 basket attempts. (During that time
Mr. Walton was wearing Love Animals Don't Eat Them tshirts at press
conferences.)
Best for Economy . . . in Centenarian Trees Many Fruit Cents become
Dollars:

Money does fall from trees. Look at the $2 avocados. If a centenarian
avocado tree drops 2000 avocados that's $4000 per tree, $400,000 oer
acre.
The food most resistant to currency fluctuation (CNN on Jan 18th ran
a Swiss Radio International report which finds that businesses which
marry ethics and economics do better in the long run.).
Fruit is light's expansion. Meat is killing's contraction. Love is
expansion. Selfishness is constriction.
The food best for stable economies..(The drought which can destroy
linear rows of plant crops does not kill orchards) (Thank you Jimmy
Stewart for ordering tomato juice on the train in your movie.)

Safety:

Prevention of choking on meat and fish, the 6th highest cause of
accidental death.
The food which causes the least grease and stove fires (Prevention of
industrial accidents listed elsewhere).
Prevention of Sexual Dysfunction:

Dr. Michael Klaper MD lectures on vegan diet as a help for
impotence.. relieving cholesterol pressure in arteries. He states
that a 25% blockage of arteries can cause 4 times that much
obstruction.
The least breast and prostate cancer.
The least gynecomastia (male breast growth from female hormones
present in meat and dairy products)
Crime Prevention:

The food which causes the least incidence of rape (the female
hormones given to cows, pigs, chickens, etc. cause an excitation of
the sexual system in those who eat animal products) added to by
adrenalin based violence (from the fright hormones secreted by
animals before slaughter).
Cotton fruit can eliminate forest destruction for paper.
The pectin in apples is a fruit source for candles.
Fruitarians need less dish soap and therefore less rinsing water.
Coconut meat is an excellent chew toy for dogs.
Reduce sulfuric acid. The volatile gas of sulfur in onions, when
mixed with the lachrymater of tears.. becomes hydrogen sulfide,
sulfuric acid or other sulfur compounds.
World Peace and Justice:

Over a decade ago, a government research paper indicated the major
cause of the crisis in Poland was a lack of meat. Entire populations
were addicted to the uric acid (trioxypurine) in meat. Breaking
addictions is a factor in world peace.
General Bramwell Booth of the Salvation Army ended alcoholism for
London drinkers through nonmeat diet. (His father General William
Booth advocated planting fruit trees along railroad tracks, in parks
etc. to create food for the poor.) kept the British Navy from scurvy.
So the sailors were called limeys.
A Czarist navy ship mutinied sparked by meat full of maggots. This
led to an overthrow of Czarist anti peasant, anti-worker policies.
Fruit lasts longer without refrigeration or freezing. Nuts in a
shell .. apples in a cellar .. coconuts within the husk.
More efficient military. The British navy found that limes prevented
scurvy. The Odessa mutiny of the Czar's Odessa ship was sparked by
sailors refusing to eat maggot infested meat.
Politically uniting: combines the freedom granting of the poor and
the left with the conservative nature of the right.
Self Replicating:

The only food which can reproduce itself (containing eternal seeds)
The only self replicating food (Fruitarians who believe in plant
sentience would be upset with Nostradamus' suggestion that in a
special recipe one needs 300 roses plucked before dawn.)
Oil Source:

The oil used in eating fruit and cooking with fruit (coconut, olive,
corn, nutoils etc.) is also oil which can fuel vehicles and oil
machinery.

God Designed:

Genesis 1:29 The Garden of Eden Behold I have given you herb-yielding
seed. To you it shall be for meat. The Hebrew holiday of Tu B Shvat
or the awakening of the fruit tree sap is one example.
Buddha: May all that have life be delivered from suffering. If plants
are sentient, have feelings, this prayer implies not killing them and
not using insect killers, known as insecticices. There are frequent
references to fruit in the Quran.
The Essene Gospel of Peace and the research of many Biblical scholars
indicates the pure diet of Jesus. His anger in the temple over money
changing animal sacrificing, his cursing of the barren fig tree are
some indications.
In Hinduism, Rama the first embodied avatar, was fruitarian 14 years
in the forest. Krishna, the first avatar to descend with all power,
was a lacto-fruitarian (eating fruit and dairy at a time when animals
were loved and not factory farmed). Mahatma Gandhi tried to become a
full fruitarian . Gandhi felt his love of goats' milk a barrier. He
planted fruit trees all over his ashram.
A fruitarian eats nothing which has been killed or stolen. That
supplants meat, dairy, and plants with the thousands of fruit and nut
combinations on the planet. E.g., a fruitarian can eat an avocado
sandwich, a coconut milk shake or the purest coconut ice cream made
from the milk and meat of the fruit, veggie burgers made of lentil or
beanpaste or tofu etc.,,a succotash of corn, limas, peas, and
tomatoes, sweets made with corn syrup or date sugar, or fructose,
pecan pies made with fruit sugars, fruitshakes made of a mixture of
orange and banana, pear and peach, pomegranate, papaya, and plum.. a
pizza of tofu, tomato, and pepper (not pepperoni), salads of tomato,
cucumber, green and red peppers (but not lettuce, cabbage, or
celery), nutbutters such as almond butter, tahini (a mixture of
sesame seed, lemon juice, and hummus {chickpea paste}, cornbread and
muffins.

The scriptures of several religions and the research of several
anthropologists including that of Dr. Marvin Katz and Dr. Leakey, the
son of another famous Leakey, indicates our frugivorous origins.
Another implication of fruitarian diet isorganic food, since
insecticides are not used with their carcinogenic and bone and teeth
harming results. The book The Holy Science by Sri Yukteswar has a
fruitarian chapter which inspired Dennis Weaver 40 odd years ago on
the set of Gunsmoke to give up meat.
Industrial Safety--Preventing Industrial Slaughterhouse Accidents:

A UFCW union steward has said that most worker accidents occur in
slaughterhouses. Fruitarian diet prevents the following accidents:
Workers are kicked, bitten, and scratched in the head by terrified
animals fighting for their lives unsuccessfully.
Contract ear problems from the screaming and shrieking of the
animals,
Have problems with bones in relation to the cold storage rooms.
Cuts from the metal machinery, running into computer line knives.
Alcoholism and drug use from trying to deal with the animals'
suffering they are constantly absorbing.
The reduction of OSHA staff and the use of illegal aliens to fill
these jobs, some of the most unpopular in the industry, intrinsically
means more accidents.
Electrocution from machinery near liquid secretions.
In slaughterhouses where pig flesh is scalded, there are frequent
burns.
Open grease pits for blood, grease, feces, urine are traps for tired
employees.
There is ligament tearing in the back, shoulders, and arms from the
lifting of 100 lb. or several hundred lb. carcasses.
Carpal tunnel is a frequent complaint of meat cutters.
As a 1980's administration doubled the legal speed of the line, there
is a consequent increase in accidents.
The deregulation of some slaughterhouses has meant less trained
personnel.
In fish slaughter, there are also bites, scratches, hook accidents,
fishing line accidents, drownings and other trauma.
Prevention of contracting the animals' diseases in contact with
slaughterhouse fluids (blood, feces, urine, vomit).
Slip and fracture themselves on blood, urine, vomit and feces soaked
floors,
Lung problems from constant exposure to feather dust (A Japanese
movie shown on Bravo is a tale of peach trees cut down as their
spirits speak to children.).
Health Continued Weight Green Starch:

Avocados, lima beans, peas are very filling fruits. The toxin bouncer
chlorophyll is necessary. Any uncooked green fruit contains it. Other
sources are limes, green peppers, etc.
Fruit has the most natural fiber for good intestinal function. and
therefore fruitarians have the least intestinal cancer, constipation,
appendicitis, hemarrhoids, peritonitis etc.
Fruit, says Marion Burros of the NY Times, requires no insulin for
processing of its polysaccharides, disaccharides, and monosaccharides
so that fruit does not exhaust the pancreas. It is a natural guard
against diabetes. (Fruitarian Dick Gregory ran 3000 miles across the
U.S.)
Dr.Frank Sachs of the Harvard School of Public Health confirms fruits
and vegetables are the best.

Elizabeth Cohen of CNN: A banana has 450 mg of bloodpressure reducing
potassium. It is better to get potassium in fruit than in pills.
The plethora of antacid ads showing pills after burgers underlines
the hydrochloric acid required in the stomach to break down animal
flesh. Countries with the highest rates of stomach cancer have the
highest fish consumption.
Even citrus fruit becomes alkaline in processing. Fruit is the least
acid of all foods and therefore the food which is best for long life.
Fruit is the best food for the electrolyte balance of body.
Fruit yields its energy the most gradually as first monosaccharides
are burned, then disaccharides, then polysaccharides.
Fruit causes the least food poisoning of any foods. (Knight Ridder:
97% of all food poisoning fatalities are caused by animal products)
Fruit prevents calcium oxylate kidney stones associated with the
cooking of oxalic acid vegetables and the much more frequent uric
acid kidney stones associated with meat.
Fruitarian oils such as olive are best for the heart. Meat and fish
oils are the most complex, hardest to break down, have the most
toxins.
Fruit contains no volatile sulfur compounds which can become sulfuric
acid and lachrymaters. Onions contain such.
Fruit has the least insecticides. It is good to eliminate all
insecticides.. to shop organically.. yet meat has 21 times the
insecticide level of fruit because the average nameless 1,000 lb cow
at her time of slaughter ate 21,000 lbs of fruit. In addition, fruit
is from a filtering tree which deposits insecticides in the stem,
twig, trunk, and roots, protecting the fruit as a mother protects her
fetus. Besides a cruel death for insects, insecticides cause cancer,
teeth loss, bone weakening, immune system devastation. A few drops of
parathion is enough to kill. The United Farm Workers have spent
decades fighting the planes of death which spray their fields.
Stephanie Beling, M.D. cites nuts and seeds as boosters of the immune
system, cholesterol reducers, elimination aids, inflammation
preventers, and stimulants of enzymes which detoxify carcinogens.
Fruit is best for the kidneys. Animal eaters, carnivores, have 5
times the kidney size per lb. that frugivores, fruiteaters, have.
Carnivores have adapted to the extensive nitrogen shearing required
by the kidneys in turning exaggerated protein intake into
carbohydrate.
Fruit breaks the addiction of uric acid in meat, which is
trioxypurine.
Fruit has the most vitamin C of any food. Dairy and meat have none.
Fruitarians have the best heart since a. the stimulant uric acid is
eliminated b. the stressful adrenalin from frightened animals is
eliminated c. there is no animal fat etc.
Fruitarians on the average weigh least. Nonvegetarians weigh the
most. Vegans weigh 2nd least. Nondairy vegetarians third least (Dr.
Mervyn Hardinge's research at Harvard and that of others)
Organic fruit juice is more pure than spring water because it is
filtered by the roots, trunk and twigs of the tree.
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals:

It still occurs in some areas around the world (as described in Upton
Sinclair's Jungle) that some animals are dropped alive into boiling
water before dead. 96. Mother cows are separated from their calves at
veal butchering time through shocking rods.
There is freezing of some animals as the trucks go through mountain
passes where the high winds rip through openslatted trucks.
There is absolute terror as the animals hear the ones in front of
them being butchered.
The 30,000 blizzard-stranded cows and 20,000 sheep on Dec 31st, 1997
are a not wished for result of the cattle and sheep industries. Dick
Goddard, Fox 8 weatherman and longtime animal protector, says
paradoxically the cows sometimes do not freeze, but die of thirst
because they cannot chew enough snow to process their needs.
They are kicked, bitten by other animals as they panic in hearing the
animals in front of them in the killing line.
Animals relax around fruitarians because they do not smell like
competitors.
Animals die of thirst often in transit.
Animals are goaded onto conveyor belts with pitchforks and electric
shocking rods.
Most Varied:

There are hundreds of thousands of varieties of fruit in the world.
There are a few mammal types humans eat, hundreds of dairy
combinations, tens of thousands of vegetables and hundreds of
thousands of fruit combinations.

WAVE OF THE FUTURE

The world is evolving toward information and fruitarian economies and
away from industrial and animal based supply systems. The stockmarket
of October 97 gave indication of this.

Neil Sullivan: Institute For Local Self Reliance on the Derek McGinty
Show: People who eat fruit tread most lightly on the earth.

1. HEALTHIEST:

A. VITAMIN C

B. BETA CAROTENE

C. INOSITOL

D. LAURIC ACID

Only fruit has the highest concentrations of vitamin C, the bouncer
of the body, which eliminates toxins and free radicals. Jackie Dewey,
writer for the Los Angeles Times, suggests that we take vitamin C as
Linus Pauling did in crystal rather than pill form so that the
stomach lining is preserved. In addition, all orange and yellow
fruits have betacarotene. Squash is a fruit since it is a vine, tree,
or plant product. Dr. Reginald Cherry, MD, author and host of a
Trinity Broadcast Network show, named after a treefruit, cites
research about beta carotene as a cancer melter.Fruitarian corn has
inositol. Coconuts contain lauric acid, an enzyme uniquely conducive
to meditation.

What are the guts of an animal? Material containing E Coli,
salmonella, and tens of thousands of potential diseases. God designed
the contents of guts to be eliminated as waste.. not touched.. but
buried.
What are the intestines of a cantaloupe? Eternal seeds.. potentially
containing enough lifepower to re-vine the globe.
What is the liquid of an animal? His life blood.. which putrefies
very quickly after slaughter.. which is why Biblical dietary laws
forbid the drinking of his blood.
What is the liquid of a fruit? Shining juice fathered by the sun and
mothered by the rain.
Stephanie Beling, M.D. has written that nuts and seeds contain
healthful lignans, B vitamins, vitamin E, copper, selenium, calcium,
and fiber.

Polysaccharides Help Prevent Diabetes and Promote Biochemical Peace

Fruit has polysaccharides, disaccharides, and mono- saccharides for
the most even energy flow. Fruit sugars, says Marian Burros,
syndicated writer for the Washington Post and then the New York
Times, bypass the pancreas unlike other sugars. Therefore fruitarians
are less likely to contract diabetes, ith its potential blindness,
amputation, cardiovascular problems.

Dr. Ann Wigmore found that patients on raw food could cut their
insulin levels in half. For those who are not ready to become
fruitarian,James Marcus recommends washing out the system once a week
with an all fruit juice or fruit diet.

WEIGHT

Fruitarians, cites Dr. Hardinge in his Harvard research, weigh the
least of the four groups of nonvegetarians, dairy vegetarians,
nondairy vegetarians (vegans) and fruitarians.

Fewest Insecticides

Only fruit is filtered through roots, trunk, branch, stem, leaf,
twig.. each of which protects the fruit from systemic insecticides.
Red meat is the most insecticide-intensive of foods, since a one
thousand pound cow represents 21,000 lbs of food eaten by the animal.
These nonbiodegradable insecticides remain in the animal's flesh.
WCPN Cleveland Public Radio on August 8 broadcast that in the fruit
group strawberries tend to have higher concentrations of insecticide
than other fruits. You do not have to battle the 300 lethal
insecticides used by Mexico (source of more than half of American
winter produce) or worry about whether food handlers washed their
hands.. if you start your own fruit and nut tree orchards. Neil
Sullivan of Institute For Local Self Reliance: Fruitarians tread more
lightly upon the earth.

MOST ADAPTED TO HUMANS

Sri Yukteswar's book mentions the 36 foot intestinal tracts of
frugivorous or fruitarian human beings.. as opposed to the very short
intestinal tracts of carnivores. A national ad mentions that when
John Wayne died he had 44 lbs. of unprocessed waste in his intestinal
tract. We mean no disrespect to the greatly loved actor and thank him
that his experience can help us. Meat is the hardest on the
intestinal tract, while fruit is the easiest, with bulk which is
perfect for peristalsis and biochemicals which detoxify the blood.
Dick Gregory has commented that flour and mucus foods become plaster
like on the intestinal walls, blocking the flow of blood and oxygen.
Fasting and fruit are the best ways to deplaster the body. (NIH and
other research reported on MSNBC indicates that the killing of
carnivores is learned behavior and that carnivores raised in
captivity do not know how to kill, only playing with their prey). It
would seem that Isaiah 65.. the wolf shall lie down with the lamb..
is possible. Sri Yukteswar also reported that fruitarians have the
least HCL hydrochloric acid in their stomachs, and that carnivores
have much higher concentrations as well as 5 times our kidney size
per pound of body weight.

Natural Fiber

Reginald Cherry, MD, nutritionist for TBN, suggests at least 3
servings of fruit daily. Bran, the husks of seeds and grains, can be
considered fruitarian. National Public Radio in the week of August
4th reminded its listeners that prune juice is one of nature's
premier laxatives and that cranberry juice is a natural diuretic.
(Check the labels.. some cranberry juices says Dr. Dean Edell contain
a red dye, cochineal, made from the bodies of insects. It might be
the same dye which made the British Redcoats.. red) An apple a day is
good.. but four apples a day are more likely to keep the doctor away.

VEGETABLE CHRONICLES:

National Public Radio: Fruits are better than vegetables for
reduction of heart pressure (they are more yin or more expansive).

LEAST FOOD POISONING HAZARDS:

97% of all food poisoning fatalities (E Coli, anthrax, salmonella,
ptomaine, brucellosis, toxoplasmosis, etc.) are caused by animal
flesh and animal products. Of the remaining 3%, fruit products are
more protected than plants. Fruit's spherical shape (as compared to
lettuce and cruciferous plants) allows for less possibility of
contamination. (Peeling is recommended). The fewer the people who
handle the food the more pure it is. Fruit grown in your backyard
without insecticides is angel-given.

HIGH POTASSIUM AND ALKALINE FOODS AS A REVERSAL OF ACIDIFICATION

Many diseases come from over acidification of the body. Meat, eggs,
fish, nicotine, coffee have high acid contents. Fruits, even citrus
fruits, are excellent for potassium which offsets sodium and
acidification. Fruits with average levels of potassium include
apricots, peaches, bananas, raisins (l/2 cup), prunes, cantaloupe,
figs, dates, watermelon, and juices such as orange, grapefruit,
tangerine, prune. Fruits in general are alkaline and therefore
reverse acidification.. Even citrus has a biochemical change in the
body.

MOST DIGESTIBLE

Fruit has the greatest range of texture.. from very soft and ripe to
as hard as a coconut. Ripe fruit is the most easily digestible.. say
Maria Cull and other researchers.

RESTORES ELECTROLYTE BALANCE OF BODY L. GARLIC AND ONIONS:

a.In certain Buddhist and Hindu branches, garlic and onions are
considered tamasic or sleep-inducing. Those who eat them for lunch
are more likely to want an afternoon nap than those who eat foods of
light. b. Onions perhaps make us cry because they don't want to be
cut up. Deepok Pokharna, a chemist, cites the volatile gases of
sulfur. They become hydrogen sulfide, sulfuric acid and other
compounds when in contact with tears. This is called lachrymation.
(The New Scientist the source for the sulfur statement.)

PREVENTING CALCIUM OXYLATE KIDNEY STONES

Kidney stones are caused by excess calcium (in animal products),
excess oxalic acid (from the cooking of some vegetables, and other
factors. The thin green layer between potato's brown skin and white
interior when cooked causes oxalic acid, e.g. Fruitarians in general
have the fewest kidney stones. If you like fried potatoes it is
better to cook them in olive oil and to peel them to avoid the
oxylates.

HEALTH QUESTIONS

A. WHAT ABOUT PROTEIN?

A carnivore has 5 times our kidney size per lb. of body weight and
has adapted more than humans to the elimination of nitrogen and the
processing of ammonia byproducts of meat. Fruitarians use the most
natural sources of protein, which are seeds, nuts, grains, peas,
beans in their thousands of Godgiven natural states and combinations.
(sunflower seeds, green beans, lima beans, sweet peas, corn, almonds,
walnuts, nutbutters such as almond butter, hummus, rice, oatmeal,
brazil nuts, navy beans, pinto beans, lentils, kidney beans, coconut,
etc.

B. WHAT ABOUT CALCIUM?

There are 50 milligrams of calcium in a cup of dried raisins. Many
fruits and nuts contain calcium. Fruitarian calcium is easier for the
body to assimilate and is therefore not correlated with osteoporosis.

C. WHAT ABOUT B12?

B12 for animal product consumers is cyanocobalamin. B12 for vegans
and fruitarians is hydroxylcobalamin. Fruitarian B12 is more
efficient. Fruitarians and vegans have more red blood cells per cubic
centimeter than do animal product users. (The research of Dr. Mervyn
Hardinge at Harvard).. Some Red Cross volunteers have commented on
the richer reds and deeper purples of vegetarian, vegan, and
fruitarian blood. In addition, it does not contain white ropes of
killer cholesterol.

D. ANATOMICAL INDICATIONS

Sri Yukteswar in The Holy Science describes some of the indications
that humans are frugivorous or fruit eaters and not carnivores.
Humans have the longest intestinal tract. Carnivores have the
shortest. Humans have apple piercing bicuspids not flesh rending
fangs. Humans have much less secretion of hydrochloric acid in the
stomach than carnivores. Carnivores have 5 times our kidney size per
pound of body weight.

E.SCIENTIFIC DOCUMENTATION

Dr Irving Fisher at Yale, Dr. Mervyn Hardinge at Harvard, Dr Owen
Parrett of a Canadian hospital, Dr. Colin Campbell of Cornell, Dr.
Joan Ullyot, Sports Medicine physicians in San Francisco, Dr. Michael
Klaper, MD,Dr. Wm Harris of Hawaii are some of the thousands of
scientists who have studied vegetarian and or vegan and fruitarian
populations. 300 scientific studies are cited in the back of Dr. Neal
Barnard's book.

F. ENDURANCE ENERGY

Maurice Smith, world champion kickboxer, and McGuire, homerun
champion for 1996, both recommend juicing and drinking many fresh
fruit juices.

G. FRUITARIAN PETS

Dogs do very well on beans and rice. Many dogs are eating slices of
coconut, banana, orange, avocado, apple. The more a dog bonds with
his adopter, the stronger his urge to eat what his adopter eats. Cats
have greater protein needs than dogs, and might require some dairy
products as vegetarians. There are 4 books on vegetarian pets. The
company which makes Nine Lives cat food is adding rice. (Mr. Barky is
one of many brands of vegetarian pet foods.)

H. CLEANSERS

Olive oil is an excellent intestinal cleanser after a fast.

1. IF YOU CRAVE GREEN STARCH:

Eat lima beans, peas. Limas are better than potatoes. Potatoes grow
under the ground. Just as a potato avoids the sunlight, its
biochemical effect on us when we eat them is that we want to avoid
the sunlight.

2. MOST FOOD YIELD

Only fruit yields 400,000 lbs. per acre (Source: Dr Faust, former
chief of the USDA Fruit Labs, describing centenarian apple trees
dropping 2 tons each of free food). This yield is multiplied with tri-
level agriculture, with bean and other vines wrapped around the tree
trunks, and other fruit-yielding plants growing interarboreally ( in
the spaces among the trees.) According to WHO, orbiting mirrors can
further multiply fruit production (as well as trellises and poles for
bean and other vines.) This can be compared to the plan of one
Chinese official to double egg production for his 1.2 billion fellow
Chinese which would take the grain from 15 developing nations. May
the Chinese and other nations benefit from the mistakes of the U.S.
and not emulate our heart disease, cancer, environmental devastation.

3. REFORESTATION

Only fruit can reforest the planet. To offset the natural disasters
of record breaking cold springs, drought which created a brown
Ireland in April, floods in Arkansas and Ohio, tornadoes in Texas..
we need the creation of quatrillion cubic feet of green. To those who
say that trees are renewable resources which can be "harvested" one
might respond that cannibals perhaps see us as delicious renewable
resources.

4. NONVIOLENCE

Only fruit is potentially nonviolent.. involving no slaughter and no
theft. Fruit from trees, vines, and plants is the only food Godgiven
and plantgiven. Huge industrial harvesters in hay and corn fields
slice and dice small field mammals.. A green thumb comes to those who
love plants. The plants feel it, and grow more quickly around those
who love them.

WHAT IS A CRESCOGRAPH?

The sentience or feeling of plants has been documented in the
research of many. 100 years ago Chandra Bose was knighted by the
Queen of England for his crescograph, a machine which registers
plants' feelings. The book Secret Life Of Plants documents many
research studies. Clive Baxter and Luther Burbank have demonstrated
plant sentience.

5. FREE FOOD

If one plants a peach or pear seed in 2 minutes in his back yard, and
comes back in a few years, the tree does not charge to give
everything she has.

6. ENERGY FREE PRODUCTION

Fruit is virtually energy in production in its natural state, as
compared to slaughterhouses.. Meat requires veterinary care for the
animal, freezing temperatures in warehouses, trucks, home freezers,
labor intensive care of the animals etc. After slaughter, the
animals' carcasses must be inspected by federal employees, cut up
into little pieces. Even vegetables are often harvested by huge
combines or harvesters which cause some human fatalities yearly in
tipovers or fires and cause slicing or crushing deaths to millions of
field mammals and other creatures

7. ETERNITY

Only fruit contains the seeds of eternity.. as compared to the bones
and grease left from a meat meal, the eggshells left after the bird's
spirit has flown and her potential body been consumed.

8. MOST CONSCIOUS

Only fruit has high concentrations of neurotransmitters, according to
Dr. Linus Pauling, nonagenarian neurochemist and Nobel Prize winner
twice (perhaps the only person to win two.. in peace and
biochemistry). Second, fruit has the least mucus..and therefore the
greatest flow of oxygenated blood to the brain. Preventing oxygen
deprivation through increased flow of breath can increase the mental
function. (Hindus avoid the use of onions and garlic. It is felt that
biochemically they have a tamasic or sleep-inducing result on the
consciousness.) WUAB TV, Channel 43, reported on Nov 10th, 1997 that
several anti-cholesterol drugs reduce mental alertness (brain
function). The natural way to reduce cholesterol is to reduce animal
product consumption.

9... MOST FRAGRANT

Compare the smell of the frightened animals' sweat in the
slaughterhouse.. their urination in fright.. their defecation in
terror.. and that of the congealing blood as their lives pour out
onto the slippery floors, their necks having met the knife.. compare
this to the smell of creamy apple blossoms

10. MOST TRANSLUCENT

The food nearest to pure light.. a slice of lime held up to the sun
is natural stained glass in a church grove.. Dr. Sidney Perkowitz,
author of Empire of Light, a physics book made easy for the public..
said on National Public Radio July 17, 1997 he would concur with the
view that of all foods fruit was closest to pure light.

11. MOST EFFICIENTLY WRAPPED

Compare the tin cans and glass and cardboard wrappings of other
foods.. to the way God shells the nut, husks the coconut, peels the
banana. a. no human time wasting trash pickup b. no landfill
exhaustion c. no trees killed for packaging d. no energy wasted in
recycling plants

12. MOST DECENTRALIZED

Compare the multinational nature of huge meat conglomerates to an
apple orchard.. with her satellite bees, her resident birds and
squirrels *(May, 30 1997 National Public Radio Prof. John D Ruedy of
Georgetown: I agree that the planting of fruit trees would alleviate
the drought and desertifying of N. Africa)

13. MOST BEAUTIFUL

a rainbow of pastel fruit tree blossoms..a mosaic of intense fall
harvest

14.. ONLY FREELY GIVEN FOOD

Meat comes from butchered animals. Vegetables comes from sacrificed
plants. Dairy products are stolen. Only fruit is gently and totally
given. Compare the screams of agony in a slaughterhouse.. to the
silent growth in the orchard.. as fruit trees weave and spin the sun
into pink peaches, golden pears, bronze nuts, limes (whose
crosssections look like stained glass when held up to their sire the
sun).

15. FIRE PREVENTION

Fruitarian diet prevents the most fires. Just as vegetarians reduce
the meatgrease fire hazard present in restaurants and homes with
buildups of grease in stoves, on the walls, etc., fruitarians because
they cook much less and in some cases not at all.. have the least
incidence of fire.

16. SPIRIT GROUNDING

No matter is needed to ground Spirit. In addition Spirit can manifest
in any being. However, there are optimum diets for the transmission
of Spirit, its grounding, alighting, descent, the Touch Down, just as
platinum wiring is better than copper wiring is better than rusty old
wiring. Fruitarian biochemicals ground God's lightning. Heavy
thoughts create a desire for heavier food. Light thoughts create a
desire for light food. When one is tired or angry or depressed that
is the time for the greatest discipline. "Expand in response to pain".

17. PHYSICAL BEAUTY RESTORATION

a. Vitamin C which is most in fruit, second in vegetables, not at all
in dairy, fish, or meat.. firms up the cellular tissue of the body..
firms the connective tissue. b. Fruitarians weigh the least, on
average, of the 4 groups of 1. fruitarians 2. nonvegetarians 3. dairy
vegetarians 4. vegans (cannibals excluded) c. The butyric acid of
animal fat causes the bodies of those who consume it to have an
unpleasant odor. d. The uric acid (pre-urine) in animals' muscles
cells doubles the sweat load excretion of the body. --------- JBO: So
do a lot of celery stalks around the world send birthday cards to
fruitarians? ----------------

18. THE BEST FOR BUSINESS

Those with families dependent upon them cannot be Johnny Appleseeds
reforesting the world without recompense. What is the fruit waiting
to make you a multimillionaire? Mott is associated with apples,
Minute Maid and Sunkist with oranges and lemons, Welch's with grapes,
Ocean Spray with cranberries, Dole with pineapple, Chiqita with
bananas, Smucker's with fruit jams, etc. Businesses in date sugar,
fructose, nut butters, nut burgers, coconut icecreams, coconut milk,
are waiting.. The business Nantucket Nectars started out in 1993 as a
peach juice bottler and in 5 years this business of Tom Scott of
Cambridge Mass has become a 60 million dollar business. In the long
run, those fruit juices with the least insecticide, the most
environmental bottling, the highest quality, the best price, the most
efficient distribution, the kindest personnel etc. will do the best.
Ethics is good business. Tropicana has begun producing fruit
smoothies. Chicago's O'Hare Airport features a wonderful fruit juice
bar (which would be wonderful for empty main street slots). Post has
begun advertising a cranberry, pecan, granola breakfast cereal. One
waiting virtually infinite market is juices such as mango juice, sold
in Asian Indian markets. Mangos are very sweet, not acid. There are
some writers who have for money become mongers and pushers of
slaughterhouse byproducts which are a burden to manufacturers.
Carloads of bones, lard, cartilage plague butchers. Those such as Dr.
JW, DVM who seek to market gelatins, shark and chicken cartilage will
have to answer to God. Avocados which fall freely from trees just as
apples do are being sold in some area markets for $2 each. Some
avocado orchard owners a few years ago cut down their trees to keep
the market prices high. May avocado trees grace the front and back
yards of billions of people in warm climates. Coconuts can be
shredded, blended, their meat cut up for chew toys .. their husks
used as cups. Their milk can be made into fruitarian icecream. Their
lauric acid (when uncooked) is conducive to meditation. Their oil is
very heat resistant.. CNN reported Thanksgiving weekend that the hog
market is becoming weaker. In Japan it is environmentally destructive
businesses (fishing and lumber) which are hurting. Everywhere it is
businesses involving harm to living things which are continuing to
lose customers as the Genesis 1:29 investors are doing well. Dole has
a delicious new orchard peach frozen juice.

A WORLD OF JOHNNY APPLESEEDS

If one sees a pine cone.. or an acorn.. a peach pit or an apple seed
make a tiny tunnel in Mother Earth.. and plant it that the seed be
freed. It is not necessary to shed the green blood of plants, nor
untimely to rip them from Mother Earth. If onions make us cry, we
also make them cry.. perhaps we do not recognize their tears. Gen.
William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, wanted the railroad
tracks and public parks of his country lined with fruit trees
producing for the poor.

NONCOOKING

Avoiding cooking prevents the hazards of the microwave, of burns, of
fires, of enzyme destruction, of carcinogens created by heat, the
cost of cooking, the time of cooking and of cleanup, carcinogens in
metal cookware such as aluminum, etc.

A. HEALTH:

Not cooking prevents enzyme destruction. Enzymes are the chief cancer
fighters of the body.
Not cooking prevents the creation of heatsired enzymes such as
malanalydehyde and methylcholanthrene
Not cooking saves the fiber bulk, helping with elimination
Not cooking prevents aluminum ingestion associated along with alcohol
as a cause of Alzheimer's. Other metals are also toxic. (It is best
to use glassware when cooking.)
Not cooking prevents the destruction of tiny microbes in the water.
The fewer things we boil alive, the better for all beings.
Noncooking prevents oxalic acid from cooked vegetables, which becomes
calcium oxylate kidney stones.
Not cooking prevents the formation of lethal trans fatty acids in
animal fats and hydrogenated vegetable oils. B. SAFETY 1. Not cooking
prevents greasefires. Animal fat fires accumulated on walls and in
ovens are the no. l cause of restaurant fires.
WCRF Cleveland reported May 20th that a squash exploded in a
microwave when the door was opened.. causing burns to the squash
preparer.
C. TIME SAVING: Cooking wastes preparation and cleanup time.

D. FUEL SAVING: Not cooking saves fuel

E. MONEY SAVING in saving fuel costs Macrobiotic teacher Bob Carr
recommends chewing each bite 150 times to increase ptyalin and other
mouth enzymes, to relieve stress on digestive tract, and to relax.
Tanya Siri recommends cutting fruits such as cucumbers into tiny
little cubes.. for the same reason. No longer required is the sweat
of the brow. From Eden we fell.. and now back to Eden all shall rise.
The scriptures of several religions recommend fruitarian diet.
Genesis l:29, the Garden of Eden, for Christians, Jews, Moslems.. the
Ramayana for the Hindus in which Rama is described as eating a
fruitarian (phalahari) diet 14 years in the forest, the writings of
Isaiah. There are copious references to fruit in the Quran. Buddhists
whose prayer is "May all t have life be delivered from suffering"
have fruitarianism in the Pali, Dhammapada, and other sacred texts.
Jains whose founder Mahavir preached reverence for all living beings
have fruitarianism in their scriptures as well.

SCRIPTURES FROM SEVERAL FAITHS:

Revelation 9: The 5th angel counsels not to harm any green growing
being.
Genesis 1:29 Behold I have given you herb yielding seed. To you that
shall be for meat.

Quran: 2:34 Adam dwell with your wife in paradise and eat of its
fruits to your heart's content.. (except one)

Phalahari is an over 20,000 year old Sanskrit word for fruitarian.
The first avatar of India, Rama, lived in the forest 14 years,
eating, says the Ramayana, only fruits and nuts.

Genesis: In the beginning the world was watered with mist (before
tree destruction caused famine, drought, tornado, violent storm).
Quran 2:168 Eat of what is lawful and wholesome on the earth.
Jesus: What God has joined together let no one put asunder.(The first
meaning is to honor marriage.. but God also wants us to sunder no
form from its life force) Tu B'Shvat: This Jewish annual holiday
celebrates the awakening of the trees as the sun rekindles their
fruitmaking process.
John: And the darkness was within the light and comprehended it not.

Bible: Satan is the prince of darkness. (Fruit of all foods is the
closest to light.. then vegetables then dairy.. meat is the densest
darkest food)

Isaiah 42: He does not break the bent reed.
Bible: Aaron's robe was garbed with pomegranates.

Psalms: 104 16-18 The trees of the Lord are watered abundantly.

Bhagavad Gita: Foods which are good for us taste first like poison
then like nectar. Foods which are harmful taste first like nectar
then like poison.
Jesus in his parable said that we must not harm the weeds lest we
harm the fruit-bearing plants growing amongst them.

Exodus 16:31
Manna is virtually coriander seed, says Reginald Cherry MD,
nutritionist broadcaster for TBN.
May we make of our hearts a Garden of Allah, from whence only
fragrant thoughts and dreams bloom into reality. Fr. Ron Lengwin,
Catholic vegetarian priest on KDKA of Pittsburgh, hypothesizes that
what Adam ate which caused the fall was not an apple.. but the heart
of the first butchered animal.

Revelation's 5th angel, it is recounted, wanted no green living thing
harmed.

Leonardo Da Vinci's Notebooks, says Dudley Giehl, indicate he was
probably a fruitarain.

Fruitarian Network: Loving ones neighbor includes watering trees near
us.
When you are at a grocery store, a co-op, a restaurant.. ask the
manager to include more vegetarian and fruitarian options.

Shri Sathya Sai Baba: A person who loves is a theist, whether he goes
to a temple or church or not. You have to proceed from the known to
the unknown. Then, the love expands in ever widening circles, until
it covers all nature, until even plucking a leaf from a tree affects
you so painfully you dare not. SUGAR Since sugars in the U.S. are
processed using animal bones, and since they come from the killing of
plants and in many cases from the burning of the fields including
their mongeese residents, please use date sugar and fructose.

religions: a. The Moslems fast from dawn to dusk during the holy
month of Ramadan. b. The Jews fast on Yom Kippur, the day of
atonement c. Jesus fasted 40 days in the desert. d. Buddha in a state
of samadhi (spiritual ecstasy beyond body consciousness) went without
food for many days. e. Catholic stigmatist Therese Neumann of Germany
was a noneating saint.

Industries affected by a fruitarian world will be meat, dairy, fish,
leather, wool, perfume, soap, television (advertising dollars), gun
manufacturers, newspapers, building trades, lumber etc.

Famous fruitarians include Leonardo da Vinci(as indicated in his
notebooks), Jonathan Chapman ( Johnny Appleseed ), Sri Yukteswar
whose book analyzes the anatomical differences between fruitarians
and carnivores.

Just Natural of Hawaii, Nimbo of Miami, and Gypsy Boots of Los
Angeles are some fruitarian activists.
(Findhorn in Scotland is a group established to foster plant rights,
but some plants are loved more than others there. E.g., there is
weeding.) ( Green thumb is a phrase describing those to whose love
plants seem to respond.)

HOW TO GROW FRUIT TREES

Stick your finger in the dirt.. scoop out an inch of soil.. put in a
fruit tree seed and cover with dirt. Then wait. Or, as was done with
Isaac Newton's apple tree offspring in Teddington, take a cutting of
a mature tree.. put it in water.. let it grow roots.. gradually add
more and more dirt through the weeks and months to the water. Then
plant. How to grow avocado trees to take south for planting or to
plant in a greenhouse or a room of glass: Take a seed. Place it half
way down in very wet dirt. Wait. To speed up the process, by yearling
or several year old fruit trees from nurseries. Many nurseries will
plant them for you. We will be adding the addresses of fruitarian
groups, and related issues of preservation.

Little tree Little tree we wonder where you are to thank you for the
sweet pink fruit you did weave from distant star.
