Hi Batchmates,

Our Editor-in-Chief, Thea Jimenez, has referred to me for reply re: inquiries/updates on the 2009 ALS Yearbook due to some problems with her yahoo account.

We understand that our last update was on 18 May 2011. In our 18 May 2011 update, we informed you that we have met with the layout artists/"printers" for the layout design of the yearbook. As agreed upon, they will make sure that the yearbook shall be printed and released this year. As for the grad pics, we have the creative pictures of some batchmates and we will be sending it to them thru LBC or personal delivery (if Ortigas only).

We are currently coordinating/discussing with the layout artist regarding the layout/design of the yearbook. They have already provided a sample page of the yearbook and we are currently reviewing the same to provide our inputs/comments to come up with the final design.

Also, the creative pictures of some of our batchmates have already been released to them. With respect to the formal pictures, we are still coordinating with the batch' chosen photo studio for the release of the edited pictures.

We thank you for your patience regarding this matter.

Regards,

Ipe

Hi Batchmates!

Sorry, I have not been able to access my Yahoo Mail account since last week so I'm just seeing your emails now.

I have already met up with the printers regarding our layout designs. We only had to start from scratch regarding the pagination, hence the delay in layouting.

Medyo natatagalan yung layouting din since I only get to work on it when I have a free time during weekends. But, I do have an agreement with the printers to make sure that our yearbook be printed and released within the year.

Regarding the grad pics, I have the creative pictures of some of the students na. But, I don't have the list with me right now since I left the yearbook materials at home in Laguna. As for the toga shots, to follow pa. Will send out the list by Saturday night. If you want to get your pictures, give me your address and I'll send it via LBC or if you're in the Ortigas area we can meet up during weekdays.

Sorry for the delay and hoping for your continued patience.

Regards,

Thea

Regards,

Thea

Regards,

Ipe

E. Murio is having a sale this weekend (Friday, Sept. 23, 1 - 6 pm, and Sat., Sept. 24, 9 - 6 pm at the Urdaneta Friendship Hall, Urdaneta Village, Makati). We have attached the invitation and a mini-portfolio of some items.

Though our furniture has traditionally leaned towards more classic pieces, in recent years we have started to create more modern, ambiguous forms, while crafting them using our time-tested techniques. We like to think of our work as intimate architecture for the body and for our lives that inhabit them - where a medicine cabinet can hold pills, or a series of mundane objects, or a collection of items that connect to our dreams. Furniture, as objects that are scattered about, are also things around which we gather with family to celebrate, in which we lay a sleeping child, or suspend our bodies. As objects, they suggest their function, but we hope they also evoke a sense of delight, an appreciation of texture, and a formal fascination.

We hope you enjoy our portfolio.

See you at the sale!

ANNOUNCEMENT

***
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
10TH ANNUAL GLOBAL LINKING AND LEARNING PROGRAMME

APPLICATION DEADLINE: 19th OCTOBER 2011

Dignity International and our partners believe that Human Rights and Development must go hand in hand as both share the same core functions. They cannot be separated and must complement each other to ensure the continuous sustainable progress of the human race, while ensuring the environment and other entities within it are protected and preserved. Human Rights provide a moral, authoritative and legal framework to tackle root causes of poverty – the deep-rooted structures of discrimination – i.e. the global processes of impoverishment. A human rights framework has the potential to deal with not only legal justice, which is the primary preoccupation of traditional human rights organisations, but also economic and social justice which is central to development work. Meanwhile, development is the primary motive to provide basic structural change.
For the 10th consecutive year, Dignity International is proud to organise our signature capacity building program again, which will continue to empower human rights activists and development agency leaders, as well as leaders of civil society and grassroots community organizers. The learning enhances the skills, knowledge and spirit to uphold the principles of Human Rights and to bring Economic Social and Cultural rights to the ground.
This programme will build on the successes of the previous learning programmes on “Human Rights-Based Development”, and on “Economic Social and Cultural Rights” organised by Dignity International, with a range of national, regional and international participants.
Dignity’s programmes are designed as a process of mutual learning, with the participants´ experience and realities as the starting point of the learning process. Active participation and in-depth reflection – individually, in groups, and in plenary - are the key contributors to the success of the programme.
Based on non-formal education and learner-centred methodologies, this programme provides a mutual learning atmosphere where participants can compare their approaches and concerns in a safe, intercultural context. In addition to that, the use of experiential methods and case studies strengthens the practical side of the programme.
The call for the Global programme is now OPEN. We are happy to receive applications to this historical 10th Annual Global Linking and Learning Programme.

For more information about the programme and to register as a participant, CLICK HERE>>>

Please forward this message to your friends/colleagues/partners who are interested to be a part of this programme. Deadline for applications is on the 19th October 2011, 11.59PM (GMT+8).
Thank you

Training Dates:            25th January to February 3rd 2012

Location:                      Thailand

Deadline for application: October 31, 2011, 5 P.M. C.E.T.

The purpose of the IFOR Women Peacemakers Program (IFOR/WPP) Training
of Trainers (ToT) is to bring together 20 women and men
practitioners/trainers from the Asia region, working in the fields of
peace building, gender, and women’s empowerment. The Asia ToT aims to
provide a platform for a rich exchange of insights and experiences on
the issues of gender-sensitive active nonviolence (GSANV),
masculinities, femininities and a variety of issues relevant to
peacebuilding in different Asian countries.

The training will cover the theory and practice of gender-sensitive
active nonviolence and will provide an opportunity to consider case
studies from the Asian region. Networking, lobby and advocacy, as well
as regional movement building will be addressed too.

Proposed Objectives

¨      To provide training to trainers on gender-sensitive active
nonviolence (GSANV);

¨      To explore the concept of masculinities and femininities in
relation to issues of violence and peace;

¨      To explore the establishment of community/ country-based teams
that can multiply gained skills and knowledge;

¨      To create a pool of GSANV trainers and allies;

¨      To explore the concept of networking/movement building.

Expected outcomes of the ToT:

¨      Participants are able to understand and integrate
gender-sensitive active nonviolence in their daily lives and work for
peace;

¨      Participants are able to link the analysis of masculinities and
femininities to issues of violence and peacebuilding;

¨      Participants act as agents of change for gender equality in
peacebuilding;

¨      Participants develop and implement action plans for follow-up
trainings/activities;

¨      Participants participate in the process of the creation of a
regional training manual for the purpose of enriching future trainings
and knowledge building and sharing.

¨      Participants have a shared understanding and vision on regional
networking/movement building.

Criteria for the ToT

Applicants must:

v                 Be from the Asia region.

v                 Have some training experience already (minimum of 1
year), in the field of gender, masculinities, UNSCR 1325,
peacebuilding and/or active nonviolence within an NGO setting or peace
group/movement. Priority will be given to individuals who have an
interest in and commitment to active nonviolence, gender justice,
women’s empowerment, and masculinities. Active involvement on these
issues within local, national, regional or international network
settings will be considered an added advantage.

v                 Be in a position to spread the skills they have
learned during the ToT.

v                 Possess strong communication skills and be committed
to participatory approaches to training.

v                 Have clear plans to implement the knowledge and
skills gained during the Training of Trainers into their work for
peacebuilding and gender justice.

v                 Commit to the entire ToT cycle.

v                 As the Training of Trainers will be conducted in
English, participants must have a sufficient command of English in
order to participate fully in the Training of Trainers.

Hi batchmates!

I know I promised that the target release of the yearbook and grad pics is the end of the year.  However, my aunt, who was diagnosed with cancer last year, recently died and my entire family had been busy since her hospitalization. So, the yearbook had to take a back seat.

I'm really sorry, but, promise next week I'll start na ulit.

To: "ap-a2j@..." <ap-a2j@...>

Lawyers, Nepal and West Bank
The International Legal Foundation (ILF) is a not-for-profit organization created for the purpose of establishing public defender systems in post-conflict countries and countries in transition. The ILF operates on the belief that indigent representation is crucial to a functioning criminal justice system. Without defense lawyers ensure that judges, prosecutors and police officers follow the law, reform and reconstruction of the justice system is impossible. By fighting against arbitrary detention, public defenders are often the first line of protection against human rights violations. For the past ten years, the ILF has focused solely on providing criminal defense services to the poor, first in Rwanda, and later in Afghanistan, Nepal and the West Bank.
1) Volunteer Lawyer Opportunity – Nepal
2 positions available:
- January 1, 2012 – March 31, 2012
- April 1, 2012 – July 31, 2012
The International Legal Foundation (ILF) seeks two experienced lawyers to help build a proactive approach to indigent criminal defense in Nepal by training and mentoring a group of local lawyers. Volunteer lawyers serve in the ILF’s public defender offices in Nepal for three months and are paid a
stipend but no salary.
Nepal is currently undergoing a transition after a period of conflict. This presents the country with a real opportunity to strengthen the rule of law through the development of a strong proactive criminal defense culture and practice.
The ILF seeks volunteer lawyers to help bring about historic change in Nepal’s justice system. These volunteers, known as Kathryn Wadia Fellows, mentor local criminal defense lawyers in ILF-Nepal’s public defender offices, who represent indigent clients accused of crimes. Fellows oversee criminal cases in their entirety, mentoring Nepali staff lawyers as they visit clients in jail, conduct investigations, write motions and make court appearances. Fellows, as representatives of the ILF, also participate in meetings with government officials, other NGOs and donor countries involved in rule of law projects in Nepal.
Fellows are based in Kathmandu, where the ILF has an office and residence, but occasionally travel to ILF-Nepal’s district offices are required. Travel, lodging, traveler’s insurance and a small living stipend are paid by the ILF, however, the organization cannot be responsible for any other expenses incurred during the assignment (e.g. health insurance). Nepal is a transitional country, and applicants should be aware of the potential risks involved in living there.
Qualifications:
All applicants must have at least 5 years experience practicing criminal law, either as a defense lawyer, prosecutor or judge. Applicants should be sensitive to cultural differences and must be willing to work on Fridays and Sundays.
Applicants should send a cover letter and resume to fellows@... with the subject line “Fellow-Nepal”. Please describe your experience, including any experience traveling or working abroad, and your preferred dates of travel.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO YOUR FRIENDS...
>
>
>The Filipino people need to know that Noynoy plans to control all branches and
agencies of our government.
>
>1. He already has the executive (including DOJ's de Lima and Ombudsman
Carpio-Morales).
>
>2. He obviously has control of congress, what with the Speaker reporting to the
President and giving him updates on the number of signatures collected for the
impeachment of the Chief Justice.
>
>3. Noynoy is now eyeing to control the Judiciary by getting rid of Chief
Justice Renato Corona. After denying that he had a hand in it, Noynoy threw
athanksgivingparty for the congressmen the day after the impeachment and
continued his rantings against the CJ. DOJ Sec De Lima has already made a
statement that 10 Arroyo appointees should resign or be impeached. Congressman
Tupas has already said that they have the "goods" to impeach more SC Justices
(aside from Chief Justice Corona and Associate Justice Del Castillo). If that
isn't meant to threaten them into subservience, I don't know what is!
>
>
>4. Once they impeach enough sitting SC Justices and replace with Noynoy's own
subservient Justices and Carpio as his CJ of choice to get the majority, they
plan to overturn the current ruling on Hacienda Luisita where the SC voted to
distribute the land to the farmers within 6 months. Noynoy and his family DO NOT
plan on giving up their land. Another scenario would be to follow Justice
Sereno's opinion of selling the land to the farmers at 2006 (?) prices, which
are so exorbitant that the farmers would never be able to afford it. Bottom line
is the Cojuangcos DO NOT want to give the land to the farmers. And Noynoy is
creating a constitutional crisis because of his greed.
>
>5. Today's headlines said that Senate President Enrile might be unseated.
Noynoy probably wants the likes of Drilon or Pangilinan to preside over the
impeachment proceedings. If that happens, Noynoy would have control of the
Senate as well. And who knows what they will do during the trial if Drilon
presides? He already rallied for the CJ's inhibition (so did Pangilinan), and
his arguments were used in the articles of impeachment. Doesn't that make him
biased?? He has obviously prejudged the Chief Justice already. But both of them
refuse to inhibit. As opposed to perceived or insinuated bias that they accuse
the CJ of, they made press statements and granted interviews, etc which showed
DIRECT bias against the CJ.
>
>6. The "source" or evidence presented in the impeachment document is
information from an online magazine called "Newsbreak" which says that they get
their leaks from an "insider" at the SC. Newsbreak is owned by Carpio and
company.
>
>
>7. If Noynoy can influence the SC by replacing or threatening majority of the
Justices, he will manipulate the findings of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal
to declare Mar Roxas the winner in the vice-presidential race, thus kicking
Binay out.
>
>There you have it. Noynoy takes over the Philippines. Isn't it ironic that he
is trampling upon and trashing the CORY Constitution (ratified during her
presidency) by his words and actions?
