Feels like I've been waiting for years but it's only been just under one. As requested, this is a reminder of my Virtual Book Launch party happening at http://relicdefender.wordpress.com/. Please stop by, say hi and be entered to win a daily drawing. And if you go to Samhain's blog at their home page at www.samhainpublishing.com and come back with the answer to this question, "What makes a shape-shifting rock happy?", you'll be entered to win a $20.00 gift certificate from Samhain (in addtion to any daily prizes you may win).

Other than the prizes, I've put in some extra excerpts, a preview of Book 2 in the series and some deleted scenes - you know, the things we remove from the story but can't quite seem to get rid of? It was really nice to revisit them.

Thanks for helping me make my launch a success! As always, the Roses are the best!

This is a sad day for Beaverton and all  book lovers out there.  This store, with various owners, has been around a long, long time.

I remember going there to search for a long lost series or all of an authors’  backlist and finding everything I needed.

I want to wish Anne lots of love and luck in her next adventure.

A grateful reader,   Marcy

Greetings!

My aunt and 10 year old cousin are coming to visit me for two weeks!
What do I do with a kid in Portland? That won't cost me a fortune?
I'm thinking of the zoo and OMSI. Now I'm out of ideas.....

All suggestions are welcomed!

I can't believe I did it again.  I carefully hit "reply", instead of "reply all", and still the silly email went to everyone!!!  As I hit the key, I thought, ..."wait, isn't this the group where you have to type in a person's address or it will go to everyone?"  Oh, yes it is.  Sorry, all, I have chuckled over other people doing this many times, and blast it, I did it !  Please excuse the poor technology.  I intended the message for Jessie, sorry to clutter up your inbox.  Christine

Marcy just called, she is in Detroit Lake on vacation, but she called the store and verified it happening.

Its very sad, end of an era, but we'll definitely find another spot to have the bookclub.

Liquidation is supposed to start Friday.

If anyone knows of job openings for our people at Borders make sure to pass them on.

So very sad right now!

I could go on forever about how sad I am, every time I think about it, I get further depressed, so Im trying to think about it very little..... Which of course make me think about it even more.

No doubts in my mind the club will survive.  We're all just too stubborn =) And love books way too much to let it go.

If anyone can think of a location somewhere near there that has space for a meeting, here are my thoughts to check out in the area:

Any businesses that are willing to let us use the space after hours
A community center or library that has an enclosed space
If anyone lives in a condo/apartment/housing complex that has a clubhouse that is available

Way too soon to be thinking about all that, but I cant help it, Im a planner...

Hi Jill,

Was wondering how you were doing since its been a bit since we've seen you.  We all know how those finals go!

Yes, we are all extremely depressed. I passed by borders today and saw the signs, tears came!  Very very upsetting!!!!

I think we're all in agreement that we're not letting the bookclub go.  No way!  We just have to find a spot to have it at.

I dont know if we will be able to hold the august meeting at borders still.  :'(  but i know there's been some rumblings that maybe for the sept scheduled date/time we could do something nice for the employees and maybe throw a little informal "party" for marcie.  Nothing fantastic since they will still be working, but something at least to show Marcie and all the employees how much we love them.  More thoughts on that later.

Hope all is well and you are enjoying school!!!

I was wondering about the August meeting, myself.  Seeing as liquidation started today, does anyone know how long the store will be open for?  I take it we haven't had any luck finding a new locale?

What sad and shocking news!  Borders Books & Music is a cultural icon, Border's Beaverton is a landmark and Marcy Dodge will always be my bookseller of the year!   Waaaaaaaahhhhh!!!

I know the group is looking for a permanent place to hold the book club meetings, but in the interim I am offering my home (very large gathering room and even larger deck) for the August meeting, if you can't find a suitable place.  We have loads of chairs and space and I'd be delighted to serve up refreshments.  I have so appreciated your support for me and my romance career and would love a chance to thank you all.

We are located on a lovely wooded lot in the hills north of North Plains, cool breezes and sun-dappled landscape -- 4 miles off the Jackson School exit of Hwy 26.   It's a great place to get away and kick back for an evening of old friends and good books.

Let me know if you're interested and I'll get the ball rolling.

Thanks again for all your support through the years!

Oh, Linda, so great to hear from you!  I know Marcy has always been a great support to authors and this must be doubly sad on your end :(

Thank you so much for the offer!  I know we all appreciate it very much.  Let me check with Marcy to be sure that we aren't going to be able to use Borders in August and we'll get back to you.

Thanks again.  It would be great to see you and get to catch up.

Hi Everyone -

Thank you Linda SOOOO MUCH for offering your house. That was sweet and very
generous. Marcy hasnt quite been able to email anybody yet, but I know she was
very touched by the gesture.

I'm sorry this took so long to write out everything. Up until this morning, it
looked like we werent going to be able to meet at the store, and since Marcy
doesnt get her schedule for work until the week of, we weren't even sure if she
was going to be available for the bookclub. But Marcy just got the greenlight
that they are going to let us meet in August at Borders. Yeah!!!

For going forward, it looks as if the Beaverton Library has a room that is
available and free for community based groups, more research needs to be done
there, but it is looking positive. We'll talk more at the August meeting.

One last meeting at Borders, its bittersweet, but I'm excited that we get to
have one last one there.

Hopefully you can all make it, see you there!

Hi Everyone,

I talked to Lisa J (GM) and she said we could have our August meeting at the store.  I hope this informational email makes it  to all the members so they know

what is happening.  It will probably be the last one we can have there so members need to come with some ideas of where to meet.

Some ideas I’ve had are:  libraries, food court, coffee shops, member’s homes and  various other places.  We will see what everyone comes up with on Tuesday.

Just to let you know we will not have the book selection for next month to sell to you that night.  At this moment no new books are coming into the store.  The selection for next month

was:  The Devil In Disguise By Stefanie Sloane.  So you will have to purchase it someplace else for September….Gasp did I just write that.

I do apologize for not getting to all of you sooner.  I have to say that I’ve been in denial.  It’s hard to believe that probably by the end of September I will be out of a job

I’ve had for almost 24 years.  I hope you all understand how much these years with you all have meant to me.  I can’t begin to tell you the depth of my love and gratitude

to all of you for some of the best times in my life.  We will go on and make many more wonderful memories together!!

I hope you all can make it next Tuesday for the meeting.  Please come so we can laugh and cry together.

Love, Marcy

Greetings Book Club!

I just spoke with Marcy, who said she sent us an email. In case I'm not the only
one who missed it, our September Book Club will be meeting at Borders but we
need to bring our own chairs.

This month's book is Stefanie Sloane's The Devil in Disquise.

thank you,

Hi Everyone!
I called Jan's Paperbacks and Debbie the owner is thrilled to order books for us!  She is going to order Deep Disclosure by Dee Davis, today probably.  I told her to order 10 copies, so we can see how many copies we really need for the group before we finalize the number she needs to order each month.  She is willing to come to the bookclub each month with the books to be purchased there, and can accept cash, check or credit card. If she gets the order in today she should have the books tomorrow, as long as they are not backordered.  She will call me when she knows and I will let you guys know that they are there.

She gives a 20% discount off ALL new books that she sells, so if you are wanting something else she is more then happy to order it for you.  She can order one copy or four, it doesnt matter to her =)

In a month or so she will also have a new website that allows us to order new books online.

Phone number is 503-649-3444
or you can email her at contact@...

Her space in the bookstore is smaller, currently their bookclub has six and its comfy.  BUT she is remodeling the store and all the bookshelves will be on wheels so would be movable.  I told her that the space was in the list of possibilities but we wouldnt be making a decision until January and that some people are coming from Gresham or Tigard so distance is a factor.

Yippee!  Check that off the list =)

I'm not usually drawn to cowboy or Texas stories but now I must get this novel.
In fact, in support of the author, maybe we should pick it for a book club selection?
Thanks for the link,
