MORE and more women are drinking pints.
And to enourage the trend a Garden City pub's beer festival is being aimed
especially at the ladies.
The Attimore Hall annual Cask Ale Festival has launched a Try Before You Buy
initiative.
"Real ale is often seen as a heavy drink, bitter to taste and with an old
fashioned image," said Jonathan Croad, manager at The Attimore Hall, an
Ember Inns pub.
"However, while we will of course continue to serve traditional real ale,
golden ales are now growing in popularity, offering a lighter, more
refreshing taste and paler colour to attract females and young adults."
Try Before You Buy means that people can sample a small amount before
deciding if they want a whole pint.
Tony Jerome, marketing manager at the Campaign for Real Ale, said: "We have
a large female membership at CAMRA and it is growing all the time.
"Our research shows there are certain ales that are definite favourites with
women.
"Try Before You Buy promotes choice and encourages more people to try
something new."
The Cask Ale Festival has seen the pub introduce a range of guest ales,
including several award winners and a selection of golden ales.
It runs until November 25.
Throughout the six weeks guests will vote for their favourite ale to be
stocked in the following week.
There will also be a local hero campaign.
