Newly elected Mayor Pat Thomas doesn't have a problem with draft beer sales.
The issue was brought up by the Dothan Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
But in order for distributors to even think about handling draft, there has
to be Sunday sales.
"My whole focus was draft beer sales, I could care less about Sunday sales,
but the way that it has to be put into a referendum to be voted on that was
what was laid out in front of us" says Thomas
Problem is the city wants draft beer and Sunday sales to be countywide.
But in order for Houston County to cash in, the state legislature has to
give a thumbs up.
And in order for it to even go to the state, the decision has to be
unanimous, on the state and county level.
Houston County Commission Chair Mark Culver says, "We would not be in favor
of that unless it was voted on by the people and it's an issue that not on
our desk our legislation had some terms to go by."
"Until there's a change in the commission or legislator, it'll be a dead
issue," Thomas says.
Fifteen cities have draft beer sales. Dothan is one of the largest ones that
doesn't.
