THE price of a pint of beer has soared by an inflation-busting 9p in the
past year, says a survey.
The average ale price rose from £2.15 to £2.24, with lager also up 9p - or
four per cent - to £2.45.
But the North was hardest hit with 10p increases.
But the North West was the cheapest region for real ale at £1.97 and £2.21
for lager. The most costly real ale was in the South-East at £2.42 a pint.
The Campaign for Real Ale said the increases were far in excess of the
Budget rises of a penny on a pint. Chief executive Mike Benner said: "The
cost to consumers is considerably higher."
