Call to give schoolchildren beer
A Belgian organisation is encouraging schoolchildren to drink light ale
instead of sweet fizzy drinks.
The Louvian Beer Therapists say low alcohol beer would be healthier for
children than pop, reports De Telegraaf.
Spokeswoman An Frankie said she was given beer at school as a child and
called for a return to the old ways.
"A light alcoholic beer is far healthier than soft drinks which are often
too sweet," she said.
"Why don't schools put a bottle of light beer on the table anymore like they
used to do."
But the demand was criticised by Belgian dieticians who said children should
not be encouraged to drink alcohol.
