6. HUBLI CHAPTER ACTIVITIES

Meeting of Bharat Uday Mission & HubliCity on Sep. 22, 2007

Dear All,

Let me in brief put on record the proceedings @ the meeting on Sep. 22, 2007. Pardon me for the late release. I was on a tour of some cities of NK to spread the word of Bharat Uday Mission during the last week...

First of all, let me thank all the citizens of HubliCity for accepting my invitation for a meeting and being present & participating in the meeting actively.

The meeting started with a brief self-introduction by the members present. This was followed by a brief PPT on BM. Then a 35 miniute documentary remembering the struggle of revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh & Azad and it's relevance in today's India was played.

Then, Santosh elaborated on the concept of Bharat Uday Mission as a movement and a platform for spreading good values and weeding out corruptions of all sorts from our Society & Polity.

Then followed an intense discussion on the prevailing situation in the country, the degradation of social & moral values and the resultant effects like corruption in social and political life.

There was a general agreement that it was high time for educated and well-meaning citizens to come together on a single platform like Bharat Uday Mission and work to rid our society & polity of all the ills and strive for a ideal society in which compassion & justice flourished.

It was also felt that to give effect to larger things & the movement, work and activity should begin from our homes and city, first. So, it was resolved to form a group of Hubli-Dharwad Citizens to spread awareness about cultivation of good values among people and act as a presurre group of awakened citizens to work for the development of the City & the North Karnataka region in particular.

It was noted that, the HubliCity group had taken many initiatives during Mr. Manivannan's tenure. However, it was felt that for continued development of the city, it is the people who should always stay alert, socially & politically. Therefore, it was resolved that the HubliCity group,  Bharat Uday Mission and all like-minded people & organisations should meet regularly and take more steps & do more activities on ground. In short, the groups must graduate into real forces to recon with on ground than forums of discussion only.

As a first step of activism as a outcome of this meeting, the attendees decided to spread awareness about electing the right candidates and the duties of citizens in elections. The pamphlet, "Vote for Ms./Mr. Right", circulated earlier was to be distributed by members in their wards.

Many more discussions and action points had to be withheld for sheer want of time, which we hope to cover in the regular meetings and activities that are expected to follow this first step.

The meeting started at 6.30 pm. and ended much after 10 pm.

We thank Prof. Veermahanteshswamy for being courteous enough to host the meeting at BVB College. I also thank Mr. Sunil in particular for providing the contact details and other leads in the run-up to the meeting.

The members present at the meeting were:

Mr. Anil Desai

Mr. Ankesh Jain,

Dr. Prabhuraj

Mr. Santosh Nargund

Mr. Satish

Mr. Sunil Nalavade

Prof. Veermahantesh Swamy

Mr. Waseem Shaikh

Pl. pardon me for any errors in spelling names as my ignorance.

I thank all the honourable participants in the meeting and look forward to all to take the initiative in cracking new ground towards citizens' activism to usher in a society and polity free of all corruptions and a happy & prosperous Hubli-Dharwad City and India!

Namaste Every body

Wish you all a very happy new year.

Bharat Uday Mission (BHUMI) has been registered as a National NGO. I
congratulate all of us for this success. I especially thank Rahul
and Arvind for making this possible in shortest possible time. We
will all strive to make it a historical event.

This registration was important to give authenticity to our
organization, which will help in getting genuinely interested
workers as also facilitate our activities by means of getting
various schemes for the implementation of developmental programmes.

Now we have the responsibility of Nation Building. And we will be
successful in this mission since each one of us feels from the depth
of our hearts the sense of our responsibility. To proceed on this
path immediately, we have to define our aims and objectives. Few of
the obvious ones are:

(1) Of utmost importance is to have a society where caste, creed
or religion will not be a criteria for getting any opportunities.

(2) Taking the infrastructural facilities to the villages and
over all growth and development of the agricultural sector and agro
industries.

(3) Creating more job opportunities to the youth. Especially
those who are underprivileged.

(4) Fulfill the aspirations of those who are enterprising and
capable.

(5) Creating political awareness amongst masses.

(6) Meaningful education with a strong sense of nationalism,
physical development and moral values.

(7) Encouragement to various arts, literature, and culture.

(8) Women empowerment

(9) Child welfare

(10)Help to drug and drink addicts.

There can be many more. All that we mean is, we need to concentrate
on overall development of the nation.

Now we have to formulate our methodology to achieve our aims and
objectives. In doing this, we have to achieve a critical balance of
addressing the requirements of various sections of our society. We
have to adopt a reformative and progressive path. We should aim at a
distant future, where our society will be self reliant, progressive,
capable of thinking about various aspects of life such as social,
political, cultural and be able to analyse and take decisions based
on the knowledge and analysis. This means change in the mindset of
people through proper education, not necessarily through formal
education but through means such as media and other socio-cultural
activities. It is not enough to talk about rights and duties.
Discussions about our better future on tea tables and through emails
or on e-groups are not going to solve the problem. One action is far
more reaching than hundred thoughts.

Success does not come in a day. There is a difference between
revolution and evolution. Evolution is gradual and permanent.
Revolution is traumatic and temporary. Hence, what we want to
achieve should be evolutionary in nature. For this to happen, we
have to give a subtle, definite, positive bias, a direction to this
evolution.

Our programmes should be aimed at long term effects based on
analysis and sound planning. They should utilize the available
resources. The programmes will not be imposed upon the members as
what they must do. Rather, I request all of you to think in what way
you would like to contribute to our aims and objectives. I suggest,
please think:

(1) If you can plan an activity and execute it. If so, please make
a written proposal including financial aspects, time period, and
submit it to the managing committee. If there are any hurdles in the
execution, we will sort them out.

(2) Otherwise, you can participate in any of our ongoing activities.

Economy

In order to achieve our objectives, it is essential to have sound
economy. We should be able to economically support our activities at
least for three years, after which we can get funds from government
schemes. There are three ways of improving our economic strength.

(1) Membership fees.

(a) Increasing the members. This is not advisable unless a newly
joined worker proves that he is active on ground level. Many a
times, individuals are active only in writing mails or in
discussions on e-groups or in creating paper work to show their
activity. Such people are not conducive to the overall growth of the
organization and hence to the development of the nation. Hence, we
feel that memberships should be given to those who prove their
credentials as ground workers.

(b) Increasing the membership fees: This can be counterproductive
since we may loose good active workers who can not pay larger fees,
unless they are sponsored.

(2) Donations: at this moment, it appears to be a better option for
generating funds.

I request all the members to suggest if there is any other mode of
generating funds.

Priority: It is a great act that some of the members have committed
themselves as full time workers. It is extremely important to
generate funds immediately for (1) establishing our office, (2) for
supporting the full timers. This requires an initial capital of
Rs.1.5/- lakhs for the current financial year. I request all the
members to contribute to this corpus fund so that our full timers
can function unhindered, without worrying about the funds for their
day to day activities. I announce a donation of Rs.10000/- as seed
fund.

Please do contribute immediately, to Bhumi. I will give you the
account number and other details in the next mail so that you can
just deposit the money in this account from any where.

We have to be connected to the ground workers, who are not
necessarily net friendly. Hence, connectivity by ordinary mail and
phones is most important. For those members who are accessible on
net, messages will be delivered on net. However, I request members
not to post any personal mails to a group of people via email.

We will have a separate cell for suggestions and for addressing
differences. All matters related to National development through the
organization will be discussed in the general body.

Let the future prove that formal registration of Bhumi as a National
NGO is a landmark event. That Bhumi will be able to contribute to
the multifaceted growth of the nation.

Jay Bharat

With warm regards

Dear Himanshu

Thank you for your compliments.

Yes, we are going to do a lot for environment. Water management and
hence reforestation is a major activity.

We have already started on this line. One forest officer will lead
us in the reforestation programme. We will plan our activity based
on the information such as what ar the committees, offices whom we
need to contact to get permission for reforestation and all. The
priliminary discussions are taking shape.
If you are interested, kindly let me know where you are from , and
you can straight away get involved in this activity.
For other things, we are starting from making a model village. The
first step will be to have a water supply to the village during
summer months.
We will need contributions for these activities. However, first we
want to open an account so that the funds can be deposited in this
account. I will let you know once this formality is over.

with warm regards

That Bhumi will be able to contribute to
the multifaceted growth of the nation..

Dear Akallpitaji,

Vande Mataram!!

It is really a great news that we have finally got registration. It will help a lot in streamlining our activities. A lots of new members also seem to be interested in our activities and willing to participate in the mission.

It will be of great help if a updated list of all the chapters, teams, office bearers and points of contact is published and broadcasted via mail.

Akalpita

President, Bhumi.

Dear Akallpitaji,

Vande Mataram!!

It is really a great news that we have finally got registration. It will help a lot in streamlining our activities. A lots of new members also seem to be interested in our activities and willing to participate in the mission.

It will be of great help if a updated list of all the chapters, teams, office bearers and points of contact is published and broadcasted via mail.

akalpitap <akalpitap@yahoo. co.in> wrote:

Akalpita

Dear friends

Since it is being suggested by some of the members that we should
register as a political party, I am making the following anouncement.

(1) It was decided that we should register Bharat Uday Mission as an
NGO by the earlier committee. Hence, we had to thnk of a different
name for the political party. Amongest many names discussed, Bharat
Shilpi was accepted by many.
(2)Registration as a political party requires that an account be
opened and that account number is to be given for registration. I am
glad to inform you that this job has already been done in the month
of october 2007. An SBI account has been opened in the name of
Bharat Shilpi.
(3) Subsequently, it was learnt that no NGO starting with name
Bharat is allowed. Hence, NGO registration was done with the name
Bhumi.
(4) It is now but natural that we register Bharat Uday Mission as a
political party. However, three names have to be given to the
election commission. Hence, Bharat Uday Mission and Bharat Shilpi
will be two. Please suggest a third name.
(5) The main task now is getting 150 members forms, as another
requirement for registration, with memebrs having voters id's from
the election commission.
I request all the members with voters id cards. or those whose
parrents/relatives have voters id cards to come forward for the
fulfilment of this condition.
(6) We will need funds for registration immediatly. One person has
already committed to donate for this cause. However, we will need a
lot more money for further development, and I will request members
to give their names and amount they will like to contribute. There
can be donations and also memership fees. Yearly membership fees
will be Rs.500/- (tentative). I will write the bank account number
to those who wish to contribute. The amount can be directly
deposited in the bank account since SBI has a core banking service.

Once 150 forms of members with voter's id cards are collected, every
thing else is ready and we can go ahead with registration of our
beloved political party.

I request all of you to co-operate so that our registration is done
speedeely.

With warm regards

Politics is the most powerful way to serve the society - if used properly. Only if we are both an NGO and a political party can we leverage the resources offered by the state and people efficiently for the purpose of Nation Building!!

Politics has become a dirty game in the last few decades - could anyone have called politics a dirty game when Gandhi, Nehru, Vallabhbhai, Bose etc were into it? Politics has become dirty because right people have refused to join it in the intervening years.

I am sure if the right people lead BUM and keep miscreants away from the party - It could emerge as a role model for al political organizations in the country.
