Subject: Rape allegations against a religious Godman and its implications

Friends,

A very serious case has come in public notice where a disciple Sadhvi Chidarpita has lodged an FIR against BJP leader and former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand, accusing him of rape, illegal confinement, forcing her to undergo abortion twice and attempt to murder. Swami Chinmayanand is also a religious Guru and head of Mumukshu (meaning relieving the soul) Ashram in Hardwar. The victim told the police that she lived in the Mumukh Ashram for several years and after relentless abuse, decided to flee the premises. During her stay, she was allegedly raped by Chinmayannad. When she threatened to lodge a complaint against him for the crime, Chinmayanand tried to get her killed, the victim has told police. She said that she was too scared to open her mouth for the fear of consequences till she fled Chimayanand's ashram.

Chidarpita recently got married to B P Gautam, a journalist from Budaun in UP and only after his support, she could gather enough strength to register an FIR against a person who is certainly a powerful figure with whom she lived for years where he is supposed to have sexually exploited her due to her helplessness.  My wife Dr Nutan Thakur talked to both Chidarpita and Gautam assuring them of all possible support to them in their fight for justice. Chidarpita told her in details about the various ways in which Chinmayanand exploited her sexually, got her aborted twice against her own wishes, gave her false promises of marriage and also beat her very severely and brutally whenever she resisted against his illegal and immoral acts.  Our personal view is that this FIR needs to be investigated very seriously and honestly because it concerns an ex Home Minister of Union of India and because Swami Chinmayanand is also a religious Godman with a very large number of disciples, hence the matter acquires grave propositions. We also believe that if the accusation is proved true, the culprit must be punished very seriously for this alleged dirty act of sexually exploiting a young girl who had become her disciple with blind faith. We take this as a possible example of a much larger phenomenon existing in India where many false Godmen are involving in such dirty and criminal acts but many people are not able to resist because of their helplessness.

There are many questions being raised about the motive of Chidarpita and her husband Gautam in accusing Swami Chinmayanand including the long delay in filing the FIR and their alleged political ambitions. There is always a possibility of people making false allegations and accusations and we are not completely sure of all the facts. But what is more relevant is that someone came with these serious allegations regarding an influential religious Godman and this must be seriously enquired into to bring the real facts, because such incidents have much wider social and cultural ramifications. If at all these allegations are true, Chidarpita and her husband Gautam will emerge as true heroes of the society who risked everything for the sake of fighting against injustice and to bring an influential but false Godman before. If the allegations are wrong, that should mean severe action against these people.

My wife took a very long interview of both Chidarpita and her husband and from its narration, our personal opinion goes more in the favour of believing that they are correct in their allegations. But then this is only a personal opinion and truth can be found only after proper investigation. As Human Rights and Women Rights activists , we take it as a milestone case and await for the final results of allegations to come.

I present the interview that Nutan Thakur had with the husband-wife duo for my friends to form their own opinion to comment on this serious issue

1. It hurts to love someone and not be loved in return,
But what is more painful is to love someone and
Never find the courage to let that person know how
You feel.
2. A sad thing in life is when you meet someone who
Means a lot to you, only to find out in the end that it
Was never meant to be and you just have to let go.

3. The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a
Porch swing with, never say a word, and then walk
Away feeling like it was the best conversation you've
Ever had.

4. It's true that we don't know what we've got until we
Lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what
We've been missing until it arrives.

5. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an
Hour to like someone, and a day to love someone-
But it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

6. Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for
Wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who
Makes you smile because it takes only a smile to
Make a dark day seem bright.

7. Dream what you want to dream; go where you want
To go; be what you want to be, because you have
Only one life and one chance to do all the things you
Want to do.

8. Always put yourself in the other's shoes. If you feel
That it hurts you, it probably hurts the person too.

9. A careless word may kindle strife; a cruel word may
Wreck a life; a timely word may level stress; a loving
Word may heal and bless.

10. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
Best of everything they just make the most of
Everything that comes along their way.

11. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, ends
With a tear.

12. When you were born, you were crying and
Everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so
That when you die, you're the one smiling and
Everyone around you is crying.

Meals that Heal - Try turmeric
Lentils are invariably cooked with a dash of turmeric. Make a nutritious soup combining lentils and pomegranate
Turmeric has so many medicinal properties, it is a wonder we still consider it an everyday kitchen spice rather than a herbal sensation. It has been used in traditional Indian medicine for centuries, as a home remedy for sprains, swellings and wounds and to treat stomach ailments and infections.

In ancient India, all ayurvedic physicians used turmeric (haldi) to treat injuries and wounds. It is such an efficient antibiotic that it not only kills dangerous bacteria in the human intestine when it's cooked with food, but it can also neutralise parasites when applied as a paste on wounds. And adding haldi to dals is a simple way to allow the body to digest dal better; most dals are difficult to digest and cause gas.

Recently, Austrian scientists reported that haldi protects against liver damage that eventually causes cirrhosis. Curcumin, the active ingredient that gives turmeric its characteristic yellow colour, reduces inflammation that causes liver cell damage, blockage and scarring in eight short weeks, reported Gut, a British medical journal.

Turmeric has been used since ancient times to boost the body's immune response. In fact, it is one of the few spices allowed in khichidi for babies above six months of age. In 2007, U.S. researchers reported that curcumin helped stimulate immune cells among people who had Alzheimer's, slowing the progression of the degenerative disease. Later that year, Clinical Cancer Research reported that curcumin effectively blocked the activity of a gastrointestinal hormone implicated in the development of colorectal cancer.

Its anti-inflammatory properties were not only found to relieve the aches and pains of arthritis, but also prevent it, said a study in Arthritis and Rheumatism, the American College of Rheumatology journal. International studies have also shown it suppresses cancer tumours and that people who ingest a lot of turmeric are less prone to the disease.

So how do you include turmeric in your diet? Here's how: Add it to dals and vegetables. Add it to milk for children along with jaggery. Add it to rice or atta dough, stews and soups, especially if you have runny stools or any infection. Add it to milk if you have bruises and internal injuries.

Views against Anna Hazare led Anti-Corruption Movement for Strong Lokpal –
- Read more @ http://www.hitxp.com/articles/politics/anna-hazare-blackmailing-government-parliament-corruption-lokpal/ © hitxp.com

You can jail a Revolutionary, but you can’t jail the Revolution.
This is a continuation of the arguments and claims that are being made against the movement led by Sri Anna Hazare and other members of the India Against Corruption movement for the establishment of a strong Lokpal institution in the country.
Claim: In India Parliament is the Supreme Authority
Totally wrong. India is NOT UK. In India Constitution is Supreme and is above Parliament. In India, a new law is first introduced in the parliament in the form of a Bill, and then Parliament will debate, discuss and then vote on the Bill, and if Parliament approves the Bill then the Bill is sent to the President of India to be enacted as a law. Once the President of India gives his/her assent to the Bill, only then it becomes a law.

In UK the Supreme Court does not have the power to strike down a law passed by the Parliament. However, Courts in India have the authority to strike down laws passed by the parliament if the judiciary feels that the law goes against the basic principles of the Constitution of India.

So Parliament is NOT Supreme in India. It is the Constitution of India which is Supreme and judiciary is established to ensure that both executive and legislative function without violating the principles of the Constitution. As one of the country’s Top jurist Fali Nariman has said
“WE THE PEOPLE” comes before ”PARLIAMENT” in the Constitution of India

Claim: Referendum is not allowed in the Constitution of India
There were some suggestions made that if the government feels that only a handful of people are supporting the movement against corruption and the introduction of Jan Lokpal Bill in the Parliament, then let the government hold a public referendum across the country and see what the people actually want. The government can hold a public referendum and ask the voters if they want Jan Lokpal Bill from Anna’s team to be presented in the Parliament or do they want government’s version of the Lokpal Bill.

Some experts(?) claim that referendum is not allowed in the Constitution of India?

Really? What about the referendum held in Goa on Jan 16, 1967 where the people of Goa voted about whether they wanted Goa to be an independent union territory or wanted Goa to merge with the state of Maharashtra. Was this referendum Unconstitutional then?

If not, why cannot there be a public referendum today about the Lokpal Bill? It is perfectly legal under the constitution of India. Public referendums are actually an integral part of any real democracy. After all, governments should do only what the people of the country want it to do. This is democracy, not some royal family rule.

Claim: UPA Government has collectively decided to keep Prime Minister out of Lokpal’s jurisdiction

At an All India Conference of of Lokayuktas in 2004 at Dehradun, the current prime minister Manmohan Singh had on record stated that he wants the Prime Minister, MPs, Ministers to come within the purview of Lokpal institution. So it is either Mr. Manmohan Singh has changed his stance since OR the decision to keep Prime Minister out of Lokpal’s purview is NOT a collective cabinet decision.

Also, please note that the current government’s draft on Lokpal Bill keeps the MPs and Ministers out of Lokpal’s purview. So if the government’s version becomes law, then Lokpal will not be able to prosecute members of the parliament and ministers. Remember the Cash For Votes scam? - the scandal that took place under the present government’s rule where MPs were allegedly bribed to vote in favor of the government.
Message to the government - Bring Lokpal if you want our votes

Claim: The anti-corruption movement is supported by the elements like RSS
Are members of RSS not the citizens of India? Will the government decide who can and who cannot support a movement? Is Corruption not affecting the lives of the members of RSS? Are they immune to corruption in this society?

Every Indian has the right to support the anti-corruption movement. Here is a classic quote by Chetan Bhagat on this Whether a Sadhvi supports Anna or an item girl supports him I don’t care

Claim: The movement against corruption is ruining the image of India internationally

From when did a movement for a just cause start ruining the image of a society or a country? People who claim this should watch foreign news channels once, and read foreign newspapers.

As if, the multiple multi crore scams being unearthed every month in the country are making the Indian image shine at the international forums.

Claim: The movement against corruption is a foreign conspiracy to destabilize the government and economy in India
This allegation was done by none other than the Congress party itself! The Party spokesperson Rashid Alvi said this said on behalf of his party that, It needs to be considered whether there is any power which is supporting this movement which wants to destabilise not only the government but the country Even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in the parliament that, There are many forces that would not like to see India realize its true place in the comity of nations. We must not play into their hand.

So Mr. Prime Minister are we going to realize our true place in the comity of nations by NOT raising our voice against corruption in the country? India is already one of the most corrupt nations on this planet. According to Transparency International, India currently stands at position 87 in terms of nations from least corrupt to most corrupt. China at position 78 is less corrupt than India!

While the rampant Corruption in India itself is more than enough to destabilize our economy and growth, do we really need a foreign hand to destabilize it? How on earth can movement against corruption destabilize an economy? Did foreign government agents come and motivate all those millions of people to come out on the streets across the country? Are they the paid and hired crowd of some political party?

Long back the same Congress Party had also accused the JP movement of playing into foreign hands. When Sri Jayaprakash Narayan started a movement against Congress government led by Indira Gandhi, Congress had accused JP of being a CIA agent! So history repeats again.

We have also seen how Congress earlier tried to malign Anna himself as Corrupt. The Congress Spokesperson Manish Tiwari had earlier said that  Anna himself is involved in several cases of corruption. and that the Team Anna consists of  armchair fascists, overground Maoists, closet anarchists … lurking behind forces of right reaction and funded by invisible donors whose links may go back a long way abroad

Now that the entire country is behind Anna Hazare and hence is Team Anna, will the Congress dare to say that the people of this country are fascists, Maoists and anarchists?

What I am really worried about is – these people who don’t even have the basic commonsense what to talk about and how to act about, how really are they running this country? In the morning they arrest Anna without any reason, and then send him to 7 days judicial custody, and in the evening they want to backtrack and release him. First they arrest him denying permission to fast, and say it is illegal to go against their orders, and then they break their own orders and give in and give permission to fast. What is all this? Is this how they are running the government too?

Look at the way the party and government spokespersons are handling the PR. Nobody in the government or Congress have said anything that reflects the sentiments of the common man. Everything they have said and done is against the public mood. If they cannot understand the pulse of the people, if they are not smart enough to realize that the people of India are wise enough not to fall to such tactics of making childish allegations and claims – I just pray and hope that this is not how they are dealing with International communications and governance in general.
Or probably a couple of years from now another wikileaks will reveal that too

Kejriwal declared assets in 24 hrs, why can't PM, MPs, judges do so?

The Congress & UPA government has to answer a simple question: if the government is sure that no politician, bureaucrat and judge is corrupt, why fear framing a strong Jan Lokpal bill? Precisely because it is not sure, it is unable and unwilling to do so. This is giving enough fodder for people to fast against corruption.

UPA also argues that Lokpal will become a monster, eat up Parliament, Judiciary and Government, that it can't be supreme to all of these while not being accountable itself. Civil society’s intent is perfect but it has unfortunately fed into this argument – it hasn’t worked out the finer points of accountability of Lokpal – some sort of judicial review of its orders are possible – but that’s not solid, not as much as Parliament, Judiciary and Government being subject to Constitution.

If civil society can ensure Lokpal's accountability to the people, just as it is asking the three arms to be accountable to people too, if it can convince the country that Lokpal will not be superior but equal to the three arms and that it can be called into question by people, represented by Parliament or any other representative institutional body, fears of UPA or any other government at the Centre would have to thin.

Can't the UPA meanwhile take the lead to do this? What’s the fear in bringing PM, judiciary, Members of Parliament under scrutiny if none are corrupt? If Arvind Kejriwal can declare his assets within 24 hours of being asked to do so, what’s the fear for PM, MPs and judges to do the same? If they can’t, there’s something to hide or there’s too much wealth that they’re embarassed to declare.

If civil society clears doubts that it won’t have a Lokpal superior to the people (people’s representatives), there wouldn’t be excuse for UPA not to frame a strong Lokpal bill.

No one can disagree with the pragmatic demands of civil society – declare assets, books the corrupt, hold the highest institutions accountable including the highest office of the land. How to make them accountable, which agency will do so and how to make that agency accountable is at the centre of the present anti-corruption movement.

Catch your breath

http://www.deccanchronicle.com/editorial/op-ed/catch-your-breath-355

December 5, 2011
By Yogi Ashwini

Count the number of times you breathe in a minute. Now look at the mirror.

Vedic rishis have said that if your breath count is less than 10 per minute, you
will exude youth, beauty and glow. If it is above 15, you have fallen prey to
disease, sadness and old age.

Breath is a direct indicator of your state of being. You derive vital prana
(energy) from the breath you take in. When the body is under stress, cells
consume prana at a faster rate. Consequently the body gasps for more breath and
the breathing rate is higher.

When you breathe at a faster pace, the body while producing greater amount of
energy, also generates toxins (ama) in proportionate amount as an equal and
opposite reaction. This ama causes corrosion of body cells and accelerates the
ageing process.

We will understand this with an example. A dog breathes 25-30 times a minute;
its average life span is 12-15 years. Compare this to the 100-150 years a
tortoise lives. Do you know the breath count of a tortoise? It is two-three
breaths per minute.

More is not always good. Prana should be optimum. Sanatan Kriya, the age-old
tool of the Vedic rishis, optimises the pranic consumption of the cells and
makes them efficient and healthy. The efficacy of the practice has been
established at the prestigious Indian Medical Association (IMA), where doctors
recorded a drop of 15 counts in the heart rate of a practitioner during 50
minutes of strenuous asanas.

You derive vital energy from breath, touch, food, sight and sound. Looking at
vibrant energies, hearing vibrant chants and positive things, touching the vital
energy present in certain centres of your body and looking at the energy
emanating from evolved souls are all sources of prana for you.

It is often said that you become what you follow, just like that these become
the source of prana for you. So if you follow the sun, you will imbibe its
brightness within you; if you follow a monkey, you will end up dancing around
trees.

How you absorb this prana is what a guru tells you as per your requirement. He
might give you all or might ignore you; all depends on your capacity. As you
absorb more vital prana, there are subtle changes in you and your life, which
indicate that you are on the right path.

We are all divine beings going through a human experience. We need a guru to
give us the experience and make us aware of the divinity and hidden powers
inside. So find your anchor and get your experience lest you waste this life!

Yogi Ashwini, an authority on yoga, tantra and the Vedic sciences, is the
guiding light of Dhyan Foundation. He is the author of Sanatan Kriya: 51
Miracles... And a Haunting

Friends,

I had sought some information on 09 May 2011 from the PIO of Home Departent, Uttar Pradesh government about the Notesheet and various correspondences related to the reopening of a Departmental Enquiry as SP, Deoria under Rule 10 of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules 1969. The Public Information Officer told me through his letter dated 09 June 2011 that this information cannot be provided as it relates to a pending Departmental Enquiry which is barred under section 8(1) (h) of the RTI Act, 2005. Later the First Appellate Authority under RTI also refused to provide the information as being a “personal information not related with any public interest” barred under section 8(1)(j) of the RTI Act.

I filed a complaint before the Chief Information Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh stating that section 8(1) (h) of the RTI Act related with pending criminal investigations and hence information related with Departmental Enquiry can’t be barred under this provision. Similarly a Departmental enquiry against a government servant cannot be treated as personal information not because this is a government work.

Sri Ranjeet Singh Pankaj, Chief Information Commissioner, UP gave his order in the Complaint No S1-1696/C/11 on 05 December 2011 where he made it clear that information of a pending Departmental enquiry cannot be withheld. He also said that a Departmental Enquiry is not a personal information covered under section 8(1)(j). Hence he ordered the PIO of Home Department to provide me the information sought. At the same time Sri Pankaj also sought explanation from the PIO about why proceeding under section 20 of the RTI Act shall not be initiated against him for delay in providing information based on irrelevant reasons.

I specifically quote this decision of the Chief Information Commissioner because it will prove very useful for all those government servants in India who are currently being deprived information related to their Departmental Enquiry on the basis of section 8(1)(h) and 8(1)(j) of the RTI Act. In fact, I have seen that pending departmental enquiry have been treated as investigations even by many Public Information Officers in Central Government departments and there again this decision might act as a good indicator.

Adultery law biased against men, says Supreme Court

NEW DELHI: Taking up a matrimonial dispute, the Supreme Court on Thursday concurred with criticism of Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code which punishes a man alone for adultery for having consensual s*x with a married woman.
The criticism of the bench of Justices Aftab Alam and R M Lodha was on two grounds - that the provision reduces a married woman to a property of the husband, and that punishment is meted out to the man though the woman with whom he had consensual s*x was an equal partner in the alleged crime.

'Women immune to adultery charges'
Section 497 of IPC says, "Whoever has s*xual intercourse with a person who is and whom he knows or has reason to believe to be the wife of another man, without the consent or connivance of that man, such s*xual intercourse not amounting the offence of rape, is guilty of the offence of adultery and shall be punished with imprisonment of either descripttion for a term which may extend to 5 years, or with fine, or with both. In such case, the wife shall not be punishable as an abettor."
The bench said, "The provision (Section 497) is currently under criticizm from certain quarters for showing a strong gender bias for it makes the position of a married woman almost as a property of her husband. But in terms of the law as it stands, it is evident from a plain reading of the section that only a man can be proceeded against and punished for the offence of adultery."
"Indeed, the section provides expressly that the wife cannot be punished even as an abettor. Thus, the mere fact that the appellant is a woman makes her completely immune to the charges of adultery and she cannot be proceeded against for that offence," the bench said.

When only one of the member or husband comes to know abt shocking behaviour of wife then may be she remains scot free and that person in over all good decides to not to bring out the truth and may just impose some restrictions on this shameless lady.
But if the matter goes to police and then court then probably the world has come to know abt it. By just the revealation of adultery by wife / lady / married women there is all sorts of social punishment which falls on her.
1. How will she be treated by her husband, her inlaws, her children, her neighbours , her own maternal family. Put one of ur female members in that place and just imagine and u will realise that most often she will have to commit suicide.
2. She may be thrown out of her house even if not punished by court due to the law. Even Bhagwan Ram did it to Sita Devi and we all read Ramayan regularly and ..........
3. Unless a husbandi very matured and very responsible towards other family members and children he will kick her out. U further want to punish her?? Our men dont spare a good decnet lady in bus, nuukkad etc and keep taunting, luring, etc then once the truth is out do u think she will be ever walk with raised head in herlocality.
4. And adultorous man even if punished will walk there after with double pride saying I had a wife and yet I fuc......and will show as if he earned Paramvir Chakra. Have all men not be taking pride by teasing, harrassing, taunting, molesting ( top police men punished for molesting another women in Punjab was appointed on various govt posts thereafter ). Even rapists and adultrous men and men having multiple wives ( Dharmendra , Raj Babbar etc ) find no one objecting / taunting as subjectiing one wife to injustice and imposing another sharere on her is a well accepted norm in our male chavnist society. A man can proudly wa;lk out of one bedroom and go in another , go to ladies bar, go tp prostitute etc etc and never ever feel pressure but a lady will not be spoared even if she goes to a beach or any other open public space.
Are women not punished enough???
I have recently come up with a shocking incident where the person is just married a month back. There is a innocent bride and his mother at home. The newly wed wife is preparing a soup for het at 10 pm. And phone rings. The men sprays lots of perfume and dresses in fresh clothing and leaves unannounced and returns home late night. And orders for food. The poor lady at dead of night serves her food but asks where did he go ? She insists to know and for that she gets beaten up badly. Finally a truth comes out one day that he had gone to her paramour the office collegue a  divorced lady. When the issue was raised before her parents then they tried to pacify the parnets of girl side by saying do not give weightage to such things there r many who keep multiple wifes and here our son has just gone for few hours.
Are u all still thinking law is biased against women and not admit that whole society is against women??? ........Noone tells you this ....except ......Alok..........

How to Stay Young n Happy Always :-)

1. Throw out non-essential numbers.
This includes age, weight, and height.

Let the doctors worry about them.. That is why you pay them.

2. Keep only cheerful friends.
The grouches pull you down.
(Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches!)
3. Keep learning:
Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever.
Never let the brain get idle.

'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.'
And the devil's name is Alzheimer's!

4. Enjoy the simple things
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and lots of time with
him or her!
6. The tears happen:
Endure, grieve, and move on.

The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourself.
LIVE while you are alive.

7 Surround yourself with what you love:
Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever.

Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health:

If it is good, preserve it.
If it is unstable, improve it.
If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips.
Take a trip to the mall, even to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt
is
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

And if you don't send this to at least four people - who cares?
But do share this with someone.

Alok,
Which century are you talking about? In this 21st century, we see women doing the same acts as men. The supreme court is right in its judgement. The law on adultery was written 2 centuries ago. Women's behaviour was totally different then. The values of people were also different.

You have alleged that no man is thrown out because of loose character. But do you know the number of men who are dying every day unheard of and unsung? Do you know that the number of male suicide is 3-5 times more than female suicide? Do you know that there are no support systems for men even in today's equal society. Do you know that men pay higher taxes than women. The list goes on.........

You have also said women are weak. Are you referring to the medieval era? Today's woman is equal to the man. The centuries of discrimination is a myth perpetuated by feminists. There is no evidence for that. Two - it is one-sided. The problems of men is never ever heard of. Then, how can one conclude that men were not enslaved by society? Yes, men are slaves of society - for the society because society needs men to protect and provide for it. In earlier times, society made regulations for men to behave so that the men could be used as protectors and providers. Today, men are mere atm machines for society.

I object to your views. Your views are biased, wrong and malicious.

The time has come to amend all the outdated laws. Even laws such as alimony act, maintenance laws need to be amended so that even men can claim alimony from their richer wives. Laws such as domestic violence also needs amendment so that wives who are harassing their hubbies are booked. There are many many such laws. Women are not the weaker sex anymore. They are the equal sex and have to be treated as equals. It means same rights and same responsibilities. Same punishments; no special treatment.

Time to liberate the men from these social norms.

We litter the streets, spit paan everywhere, paste posters on empty
walls, pee on the streets and dump garbage around the corner from our
houses. We are ugly Indians. Not every day, not everyone. But even
occasional transgressions can add up to a lot in a country of 1.2
billion.

A faceless, mysterious Bangalore group calling itself "The Ugly Indian"
is going about slowly and stealthily changing the dreadful streets in
the city. The group, which proclaims itself a "random, unorganised"
group is media-averse and operates only through an anonymous email
address. It has a three-language motto: "Maatu beda kelasa madu", "kaam
chalu mooh band", "only work, no talk".

The Ugly Indians seem to be Bangalore's answer to the Anna movement. But
rather than pointing out all that is wrong with the system, the low-key
group members are going about, simply showing how things can be righted.
There is no finger-pointing, period. Instead of cribbing about the filth
and blaming the lower-rung civil staff, the Ugly Indian has been busy
"Spotfixing" in Bangalore. Self-funded volunteers who aggregate through
the group's website, email and Facebook page, descend on a particularly
neglected (read, filthy) corner of the city where they each proceed to
plough in and mend the spot.

The anonymity of the group has worked in its favour. "No names are
exchanged, no introductions are made, no socialising, no networking.
Everyone gets it," the Ugly Indian described in an email to this column.
And so the group quietly goes about clearing garbage, fixing pavements,
providing litter bins (quirkily named "tereBin", designed small to save
pavement space and keep stray dogs out), painting walls and righting
road medians.

The Ugly Indian's approach is refreshing. The Indian explanation, "we
are like that only", is cute but does not help, says their website;
accepting that "we" are part of the problem and only "we" can help fix
the problem is more like it, they say.

In Spotfixing, the group makes over a chunk of a busy Bangalore street
or corner in a way that engages local storekeepers, civic agency
cleaning staff and the public, without apportioning blame or expecting
recognition.

If downtown Bangalore's restaurant hub Church Street has regained its
chic look, it is the handiwork of The Ugly Indian. If the city's Central
Business District is looking neat with cheerful garbage bins, it is the
group's effort. A couple of days before the Namma Metro was launched,
the group "fixed"' the MG Road metro station.

The group operates in stealth mode. Once Spotfixing is done, it details
the task in whodunit-like detail through photos and video on its website
and Facebook page. A spotfix at a narrow but busy street in Bangalore's
Koramangala neighbourhood began like this: first, The Ugly Indian spends
time observing the spot. "The best time to observe a dump is between
7.30 am-8.30 am - that's when people generally dump garbage." The Ugly
Indian studies the spot, makes a list of possible culprits, but never
confronts them. The group pieces together the story of the dumping spot
with evidence from the dump; approaches the culprits with tact after the
clean-up, and befriending and drafting local retailers and civic agency
staff helps to keep the place spotless, post the fix. A complete
change-over could take concerted and repeated clean-ups, which could
take up to a year.

A financial analyst who volunteered at a Spotfix said she was inspired
by the group's philosophy of not telling people what they should do but
showing people what a sincere group can achieve. "I didn't know who they
are, they didn't ask me who I was... we worked together to clean up and
it felt good."

Bangalore seems to have adopted this faceless, silent
revolution-in-the-making. The group has thousands of admirers on
Facebook. Hundreds of anonymous people have volunteered for clean-up
tasks and to sponsor the tereBins. Anonymity has indeed been the
strength of this small initiative. No faces means no labels and no
critics. The group has rebuffed the media and refused to meet local
politicians, who want to get involved for obvious reasons, they say. All
those who have joined The Ugly Indian movement have been committed to a
strict code of conduct. It is "almost like a secret society," the Ugly
Indian said in a further email.

This is one honest, if mysterious, public-private joint venture that
seems to work. India needs more Ugly Indians.

Ravi
--------------------
ABOUT US:
We are a group of individuals -- with several common traits, and a million differences -- who are keen to start, build and sustain a strong personal ethics movement. Personal Corruption in common Indians is the area we have chosen to address. It is not limited to, or even focused upon, political or bureaucratic corruption.

Personal Corruption is not about bribery alone, and does not even always involve money:
1. Ragging and cheating in colleges
2. Dowry
3. Responsible driving: no drinking and driving, talking on mobile while driving, seat belt, helmet, pollution, giving way to pedestrians, fire brigade and ambulances
4. Piracy: books, music, movies, software
5. Passive Citizenship: not voting, votes for cash-liquor, not being aware of rights-duties, not standing up for correct action in face of wrongs.

The list is endless. We are provoked by a sense of helplessness and dis-ownership of the nation; like it is an out-source-able responsibility. We judge the entire chain to two factors: lack of pride in owning India, and personal corruption (at thought-level).

We are also aware that a pure "awareness" program won't work. Everyone knows. No one does. Some of the Proud Indians are actually just Prime Initiators. They are walking. to discover India. See how corruption is hurting people in different contexts. Build character. See the difference between India and Bharat. Inspire. Especially the young India - senior school and college students, professionals, educated, and those who have been less fortunate - semi-literate, unemployed, but young and aspiring. Hopeful and capable of making a difference.

To walk. Think. Understand. Act. Build themselves. Get greater confidence. Without being too serious. Without losing a sense of fun. And adventure. "Desh hee to badalna hain". And inspire others to walk too.... a few steps. Steps of honesty. A few Honest Steps. Yours and Mine. Proud Indians believe it can start making a difference.

To our standing in the list of honest nations in the world. Our national and social personality and character. Our collective relationships. Between states, religions, communities, regions, languages, strata and other divisions. To create a platform. To initiate India's biggest people-to-people contact programs. To converse. To listen. To understand. Each other.

To analyse. Our virtues and vices. Personal. Nation. To see sights we have not seen before. New sights, and smells, new experiences and interactions. New expectations and realizations.

To have a logical culmination. To create a day. All on our own. Not endowed by God or State. Just us. You and me. A day called Zero Corruption Day. ZCD, if you like. A day we will converge into Delhi. With no demands for any government. Against no politician or party. Against no one. No fingers pointed towards anyone. No accusations. Just resolve. Just a promise. To ourselves. And our nation -- the one we want to build.

On the foundations of personal character and honesty. A new tomorrow. Just so everyone is what we say we are: Proud Indians. Till there is no corruption in any heart. Or a tear in another. Till we are the most honest nation on the planet. More importantly than being the richest or most powerful. Till we are all proud. Till the poverty line is high, inflation low, and corruption zero.

WHY WALK:
Because it tires the legs. It makes the stars seem larger. Because we don't want to shout or abuse. We don't want to burn buses or break heads. Because we don't believe in slapping or throwing shoes. Because we are fine if the previous generation gave us this India - they best they could to us -- we are not fine to give the same to our next. We are not demanding a better India from anyone else. We are declaring our intent to make the best India of tomorrow, today. By walking. By singing. By laughing. By hugging fellow Indians. By walking hand in hand. By holding a Torch of Hope. By taking forward the Flame of Honesty. By relay.

One Proud Indian to hold it when another is tired. The walk is a symbol. Of our long journey ahead. Our challenges. But it also is a symbol of our resolve. That we will be there for each other. That we will be cool about it. That we can lead and mange our own affairs and build a nation. For 60 years, governments have tried to make a nation. For once, let us citizens take responsibility and make it.

We are walking because the one great man who inspired a nation long ago did it. We are walking in his footsteps. We have talked to him; that Mahatma. He walked us to freedom. We will walk, for him, towards greater honesty. Beginning with a few honest steps....

The walk starts on December 18, at Vivekananda Rock beach, Kanyakumari. It will come through, most likely, your city, town or village. Join us. Walk with us. Talk about us. Join us. Become us. Till we reach Delhi.

Help spread the word.

A WONDERFUL LESSON FOR SO CALLED SOCIALIST PHILOSPHERS: ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL AND
TRUE, ONLY HOPE OUR COUNTRYMEN REALISE THIS TRULY.
An economics professor at a local University made a statement that he had never
failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That
class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no
one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on the
socialism principles".. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive
the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A....
(substituting grades for Rands - something closer to home and more readily
understood by all).
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The
students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were
HAPPY. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had
studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride
too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and
name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the
benefit of anyone else.
To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism
would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to
succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try
or want to succeed.
Could not be any simpler than that.

YOU CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE TO THE INDIAN ECONOMY BY FOLLOWING FEW SIMPLE STEPS:-

Please spare a couple of minutes here for the sake of India.

I got this article from one of my friends, but it's true. I can see this in day to day life.

Here's a small example:-

Before 12 months 1 US $ = IND Rs 39
After 12 months, now 1 $ = IND Rs 50

Do you think US Economy is booming? No, but Indian Economy is Going Down.

Our economy is in your hands....

INDIAN economy is in a crisis. Our country like many other ASIAN countries, is undergoing a severe economic crunch. Many INDIAN industries are closing down. The INDIAN economy is in a crisis and if we do not take proper steps to control those, we will be in a critical situation.

More than 30,000 crore rupees of foreign exchange are being siphoned out of our country on products such as cosmetics, snacks, tea, beverages, etc... which are grown, produced and consumed here.

A cold drink that costs only 70 / 80 paisa to produce, is sold for Rs.9 and a major chunk of profits from these are sent abroad. This is a serious drain on INDIAN economy.

We have nothing against Multinational companies, but to protect our own interests we request everybody to use INDIAN products only atleast for the next two years. With the rise in petrol prices, if we do not do this, the Rupee will devalue further and we will end up paying much more for the same products in the near future.

What you can do about it?

1. Buy only products manufactured by WHOLLY INDIAN COMPANIES.
2. ENROLL as many people as possible for this cause.....

Each individual should become a leader for this awareness. This is the only way to save our country from severe economic crisis. You don't need to give-up your lifestyle. You just need to choose an alternate product.

Deccan Herald carried an article titled, "In coping with stress, men could be the weaker sex"; a couple of weeks back, highlighting the abysmally and consistently high suicide rates amongst married men and the need and reasons to look into the same. The article was based on recently released suicide statistics for the year 2010 by the Union Home Ministry of India.

Along with opinions from activists working for men's welfare, some psychologists and police opinion was also sought and in that DCP Sonia Narang from Bangalore echoed her thoughts saying that "Male population is more than female population, hence more suicides must be expected."

It was a profound statement made by her elucidating far-reaching implications. It raised pertinent questions like,

1.    Does it suffice to invalidate large scale suicides by men with a brushing statement like above, without actually checking the facts? And that too, from a police officer of DCP rank? How safe would men feel with such officers around? For example, as per 2001 census data there are 933 women per 1000 men which means male population is 1.07 times female population, however, male suicides are 1.93 times female suicides. Hence, men die 1.8 times more compared to women on a pro-rated basis. In such a situation, can we ignore such large scale suicides by men under such eye-washing statements as above?

2.    Do not such statements clearly elucidate the need for men's rights and men's welfare in the society as these statements are glaring examples of male disposability existing in the society that makes it socially and politically correct to belittle, invalidate and dismiss men's problems, concerns and issues?

3.    Will not men going through similar problems feel a deep sense of psychological suffocation and it can lead to increase in suicidal tendencies in such men further deepening the problem?

4.    If such a statement was made about women, would it have gone unchallenged?

5.    Why this gender bias and discrimination against men?

Unfortunately, as a matter of fact, such statements are very common against men and more often than not, they go unchallenged.

1.    And it must irk the rationale, as to what could be the reason for such rampant and socially accepted male-disposability?

2.    Why is abuse of men so easy and so easily unnoticed, when it is a general perception that it is the men who rule the world, it's the men who behold the power positions be it politics, bureaucracy, legislative, judiciary, execution, business or any other power center?

3.    Why does the society find it so amusing to talk against men?

These and many such pertinent questions largely remain unanswered. Partly, because of lack of awareness of men's problems but mostly due to misandry (male hatred); as it is misandry which prevents the society from taking responsibility for its men and it is misandry that brings in hesitation in building support structures exclusively for men.

However, as mentioned above, that there is a general perception that ignoring men's problems should be OK as there is very little awareness of the same. And it is turning out to be a chicken and egg problem wherein low awareness creates a perception of "no-problems" for men and this in turn does not propel awareness campaigns targeting men's issues. This, in reality, leads to increase in men's problems and men suffer in silence as they have been doing so for the last few millennia, courtesy, male abuse being social service and a socially accepted norm.

Before understanding the reason behind it, it is imperative to mention here that the male gender is not homogenous. Males can be clearly divided into two broad categories - Males with power and Males sans power. For simplicity let's refer the males with power as Alpha Males and the males sans power as Beta Males.

The Alpha Males are the "Been-There-Done-That" species who control the power structures in one way or the other. These are the "males of substance", the politicians, the lawmakers, the feudal lords, the corporate honchos, the rich and the powerful, who either through money or influence, have ruled over civilizations in every era. These males have, for generations and civilizations, laid down the rules and social structures. They constitute just 1% of the world male population.

The Beta Males are all males who are not the Alpha Males. These are the males who "run-the-mills". A vast majority of them are wannabe Alpha Males and look up to the Alpha Males as their idols. The Beta Males are the powerless males who are just a runner in the rat-race (the race to become an Alpha and enjoy the power position). And they are the exact replica of race-runners. Everyone knows that only a handful are going to get the glory; yet all run, running while competing, often trying to hurt, injure and eliminate fellow runners in a bid to minimize competition. This inbuilt feeling of hatred towards fellow runners (fellow males) is the root cause of inherent and internalized misandry (male hatred) and male disposability. We shall see more about this later.

Before we proceed, it is imperative to mention here that, as males, the reference is not limited to the biological male gender (men, as we better know them), but to the psychological male gender that depicts the most typical masculine characteristics and it includes some women as well, however, it's the men the who are in the majority as we refer to the male gender in this article.

I would like to quote the example of the Hunter-Gatherer community here. During the pre-historic times, hunting was the primary source of survival and it was the young men of the community who used to wander out, explore into unknown areas, in search of food, and fight nature, wild animals and other young men from other communities in order to gather food for people back home. These people would comprise of women, children and elders in the society.

And, as the hunters would move forward, it was in all likelihood that some hunter would suffer some casualty, of say, getting injured or getting hurt. It would be extremely dangerous to the spirit of the entire hunting clan, if the wounds of this particular hunter were not down-toned. And, as a result, the hunter was usually told, "Be a man, move on!" Often hunters would die on such expeditions and the number that returned was usually less than those went.

Mostly, the returning hunters were hailed and used to get the women of those who died in addition to their own women.

This same principle was applied to wars later, as civilizations matured and war technology advanced. Slowly, it became the norm that the male gender must play the role of theProtector (the Unpaid Bodyguard) and the Provider (the FREE ATM MACHINE) who would be glorified if he lost his life and limbs in protecting and providing for the women, children and elders in the society. The roles were accorded to the male gender as a precondition to honor and respect in the society. However, the same did not hold good for women as we shall see in the following picture:

For women, their power to produce babies was the single factor enough for "De-Facto Honor and Respect" because population was less and communities, societies and civilizations were in dire need of children in order to grow, to be able to assert their power on neighboring civilizations, defend them and to run the "System". This also called for a social meme to set in which is popularly known as "Protection of Women". It had just become a perception of the society that women, children and elders are more vulnerable and must be protected at all costs (even at the cost of the men - the Beta Males - of the society).

However, as a matter of fact, it was the men who were losing their lives and limbs - during the war era and later their peace of mind - during the pacification era. For, when boundaries matured and countries started forming, wars subsided, even then the same social structures continued.

The perceptibly weaker sections of the society - women, children and elders - would place demands before the power mongers - the Alpha Males. The Alpha Males knew, it was this demand that was the source of their power and hence they ordered the Beta Males to fulfill those demands.

But, as there is an exception to all rules, this one was no exception. There were some Beta Males who were either incompetent or unwilling to "obey" the orders and "provide" for the "demands" in order to run the society.

The Alpha Males realized that if this tendency was encouraged, it would soon lead to breakdown of the entire structure which would also mean it would dissolve the distinction between them and the Beta's.

Hence, in order to survive, the Alpha's passed another rule that any Beta not conforming to the above structure be treated as "outcast" and it would be perfectly fine to violate his human rights and punish him. This led to the formation of another category of males called the "Criminals". And this mindset was the prime contributing factor to the foundation of anti-male laws which objectified the definition of crime and criminals.

But sooner, the Alpha's realized that this structure was also unstable, for, as soon as the demands are exhausted, the cycle breaks and distinction (between Alpha and Beta - the source of power) goes for a toss. So, they realized that somehow, the demands must be perpetualized. And hence, they started patronizing a few select "Criminals", so that they can be enabled to systematically snatch from the society - comprised of women, children and elders. This would create a never ending flow of demands and their reign of power would become endless. The single reason due to which this whole cycle was running was because the society was by and large oblivious to the silent patronage that a few select criminals were enjoying at the hands of the Alpha's which was running the whole cycle.

And the society wasn't oblivious by compulsion, but by choice. The Alpha's are like Gods to them and it was unacceptable to them that their God could be patronizing the very demon due to the terror of whom they were sitting in the refuge of the God.

This above scenario can be used as structural template for any society of any era. And the very foundations of this setup were misandrous (anti-male) in nature. Misandry, male abuse, and male disposability were an inseparable part of this setup and exploitation of the Beta Males was but a natural element of the entire setup.

The very elements of this setup did not allow the recognition of men's rights to succeed ever, for, the moment, it is done away with the perception that men are not the weaker section of the society, and it would not have been possible to have such a setup wherein 1% men enjoy power and 99% slog in a bid to reach that power position one day. A handful of them, do succeed but a vast majority end their lives struggling and being discriminated against and the moot question that arises is - "Is the price worth the prize?"

Call it a function of time or the arrival of a point of saturation, the emergence of the men's rights movement was the most happening event at the twilight of millenniums - at the dusk of the twentieth century and the dawn of the twenty-first century. Few men realized the underlying principles of the setup and called shots. However, the Alpha Males never recognized it as a mainstream movement nor considered it necessary to exist; as they were well aware of the fact that the rise of this movement was "The Beginning of the End of their Power" and this, obviously, wasn't acceptable to them.

However, the men's rights movement, typically started by some rebellious Beta Males did consolidate and is growing day by day. The Beta Uprising is ON and it is just a matter of time before power structures tumble and a new structure - hitherto unknown - comes into place.

Request Urgent Action: Please share with friends, family and colleagues

Dear Friends,

We share with you the horrible news of a dastardly attack on the people of Jagatsinghpur district in Orissa earlier today. These communities have been peacefully resisting for over 6 years now against the proposed POSCO project: the single largest steel-power-mining-township-port infrastructure project conceived in recent decades. (Please review the email received from POSCO Pratirodh Sangram Samithi that provides details of this attack, below.)

Absolutely designed to loot the natural iron ore wealth of the country to support the prospects of POSCO, a South Korean enterprise predominantly held by American corporations and wealthy individuals including Warren Buffet, this project will destroy some of the most sensitive coastal and forest ecosystems of Orissa, and simultaneously decimate the livelihoods of thousands of natural resource dependent families.

Former Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh controversially approved the project's environmental clearance, even when the expert committees that he appointed advised him against it. The experts had argued on carefully constructed grounds that all evidence provided by Orissa Government and POSCO to justify the project's positive outcomes were found to be comprehensively wrong.  Even so, Mr. Ramesh justified his highly questionable and controversial stand by claiming that the project served the "strategic" interests of India, admitting as well that he was under pressure from the Prime Minister of India and Chief Minister of Orissa.

The High Court of Orissa was approached subsequently to set right the wrongs committed by the Central and State Governments, as they had effectively created a "rightless people" out of the communities affected by POSCO's investment.  But the Hon'ble Principal Bench which heard the matter over three weeks chose not to intervene in an interim direction.  Several months later, final arguments on pending cases are yet to be initiated.

The consequence has been that communities who have been justly resisting this absolutely scandalous project, and peacefully so for over 6 years now, have been repeatedly attacked by goons. This while the police and Government representatives have simply stood by and watched.

Abhay Sahu, the leader of the resistance, was recently arrested on several trumped up charges (at least three dozens of cases have been falsely filed against him), and he languishes today in prison. This is the second time that he has been so jailed; the previous time he was in prison for 11 months based on trumped up charges that he is a threat to the nation.

Earlier today (on Wednesday, December 14, 2011), over 500 goons have attacked the hapless women, children, youth, the elderly and the men with weapons and bombs injuring many. At least one is dead, apparently one of the goons.  Once more the police watched all this without intervening to protect women and children, and the elderly, and to establish order.

As people across the nation work to rid it of corruption, it must be realised that the worst form of corruption is to engage in violence against peaceful communities who are only fighting for their just rights and for the protection of wildlife and the environment.  Any amount of economic development is simply not worth the price if it creates more poor, destroys sensitive ecosystems and benefits foreign corporations and the 1% of the world who are wealthy.  In addition, such projects only benefit those with overseas slush accounts to our common detriment.

It is time we troubled the conscience of each and every Member of the Parliament to raise this issue in the august body which is now in session. They are duty bound to ensure that the Orissa Government backs off the POSCO project and saves Orissa and the country from loot and plunder of non-renewable iron ore and destruction of thousands of livelihoods of natural resource dependent communities and wildlife, which the POSCO investment comprehensively represents.

You can find the contact details of our MPs by clicking their name at the following links:

You can choose to call any MP, but do call and demand that they must raise this issue in Parliament which is in session. Urge them to pressurise the Chief Minister of Orissa and Prime Minister of India to stop the dastardly attacks on communities resisting POSCO. Demand that they in turn demand that the POSCO project be scrapped to protect the economic and ecological security of India.  Ask them to demand stern action against the goons who attacked the villagers, and those who actively and complicity supported them in the police and Orissa administration.

Even as we send this appeal, which is several hours after the dastardly attacks (on Wednesday, December 14, 2011), the news has hardly been picked up by major news channels.  Please spare some time and call up your newspaper and TV channel and urge them to cover the issue, actively, as actively as they have covered the debates on the need for the Lokpal Bill.

And please do spare some more time and write to the PM and all others as PPSS has requested below.

People of Jagatsinghpur have valiantly and peacefully resisted this extremely controversial Foreign Direct Investment, day in and day out: over 2200 days.  We must spare at least an hour to demonstrate the voice of the people matters, and that our Parliamentarians must pay heed when people urge them to and make Governments accountable.

We urge you to act now!

In solidarity, and expecting your immediate action.

Appeal from POSCO Pratirodh Sangram Samithi (POSCO Resistance Struggle Committee)

Dear Friends,

We are in terrible shock and disbelief having faced more than 500 armed goons engaged by one Mafia don Bapi Circle under the banner of Paradip Industrial development Council and patronized by the police and administration who forcefully entered the sile of our peaceful and non-violent protest around 1.30 pm today (on Wednesday, December 14, 2011) and started attacking us by using bombs and weapons.

As a result, at least eight villagers of PPSS were injured and one of them has got serious injury. From the morning (of Wednesday, December 14, 2011) onwards, more than 2000 villagers were making a peaceful demonstration against the construction of a coastal sea road for POSCO. The private goons who had created a scene of terror yesterday (on Tuesday, December 13, 2011) did a repeat show today (of Wednesday, December 14, 2011). Their own bombs apart from injuring our villagers did also result in killing a member of their own team.

We strongly condemn the conspiracy hatched by the Nabin Patnaik government to engage private militia in order to create a situation of crisis which would demand police intervention. We consider the act as cowardice and no democracy worth its name should tolerate such an act of violence perpetrated by hired goons.

Though the situation is grim and our people are shocked, we are waiting with the same determination to protest peacefully even if the police after creating such a scene tries to enter the village to bulldoze our peaceful and democratic movement.

We request you to please stand up and expose the unethical, unjust and undemocratic means that the state has been using to crush the movement and to make the movement discredited in the eyes of public who don't have a chance to know the real truth behind any act of conspiracy the police and the mafia are hatching everyday.

Please join hands with us, stand by us and support our cause. Please circulate the message as widely as possible. We shall inform you the on-going development here.

Hoping for more solidarity from you.

When Indian Environment and Forest Minister Jairam Ramesh cleared POSCO project in India based on his "faith and trust" in the Orissa Government's claims that the Forest Rights Act did not apply to the project affected communities, he became a party to one of India's greatest planned environmental and economic disasters.

ESG has produced a comprehensive critique of the weak review of the environmental and social impacts POSCO project, and how this has resulted in making project affected communities into a 'rightless people'.

Subject: Three states of consciousness:
mohan_shyam_...
Send Email Send Email

Three states of consciousness:

We live most of our life through three states of consciousness: waking, dreaming
and sleeping.

In the waking state of consciousness, we experience the world through the five
senses. We seek elevation and joy from these senses. If any one of the senses is
missing, the entire dimension of that sense is lost. One who cannot hear is
bereft of the whole arena of sound. Similarly, he who cannot see is deprived of
all the beautiful sights and colors. So, the sense is more important and much
bigger than the object of the sense.

The mind is higher than the senses. The mind is infinite, its desires are many,
but the capacity of the senses to enjoy is limited. Greed is wanting more and
more of sensory objects. Even though one can only enjoy a limited amount during
a lifetime, one wants all the wealth in the world.

Giving too much importance to sensory objects leads to greed; giving too much
importance to the senses leads to lust; and giving too much importance to the
mind and its desires leads to delusion.

We hold on to the concepts of the mind and want things to happen in a certain
way. Thus, the concepts in our mind impede us from perceiving the infinite
consciousness that is a part of us. This is not to say that the senses or the
mind are bad. But we must learn to discriminate between things and be aware of
what is happening at all times; that is when clarity dawns on us. This is the
first step toward the higher state of consciousness.

In the waking state, one is constantly engaged in looking, eating, working, etc.
The other extreme is the sleeping state where one is completely cut off and
dull. The dullness and heaviness linger even after waking. The more one sleeps,
the duller one feels since a lot of energy is expended in sleep. Then there is
the dreaming state where one is neither asleep nor awake. Here, you neither feel
at rest nor are aware of your surroundings.

Meditation
The higher state of consciousness is somewhere in between the waking, sleeping
and dreaming states. Here, we know we "are" but we don't know "where" we are.
This knowledge that I "am," but I don't know "where" I am or "what" I am, is
called Shiva. This state gives the deepest possible rest that one can
experience. And one can achieve this through meditation.

Meditation helps in two ways -- it prevents stress from entering the system and
simultaneously releases accumulated stress. With the assimilation of meditation
into daily life, a higher state of consciousness called cosmic consciousness
dawns within us. Cosmic consciousness perceives the whole universe as part of
oneself. When we perceive the world as a part of us, love flows strongly between
the world and us. This love empowers us to overcome the opposing forces and the
disturbances in life. Anger and disappointments become fleeting emotions that
occur momentarily and then vanish.

A higher state of consciousness will not simply happen one fine morning. The
sapling of consciousness is within you -- it needs to be nurtured through
spiritual practices like meditation. Some coconut trees yield in three years,
and some in 10 years. And those that are not nurtured never yield, they simply
exist.

Attaining higher states of consciousness does not require any complicated
strategy; one just needs to learn the art of letting go. The confluence of
knowledge, understanding and practice makes life complete. When you grow into
higher states of consciousness, you find that you are no longer thrown
off-balance by different situations and disturbances. You become strong yet soft
-- a delicate and beautiful individual capable of accommodating different values
in life without any conditions. As your consciousness opens and the whole system
gets physically, mentally and spiritually elevated, your life truly becomes
worth living.

NOT all the people behind bars are CRIMINALS  &  NOT all the Judges & Police are SAINTS
Read the following cases , how corruption is deep rooted in Indian legal system .How judicial orders are manipulated favoring the rich criminals while innocents , commoners suffer injustices. Even the supreme court of india is mum , silent on our repeated offers (conditional offer of help) to legally apprehend criminals , corrupt public servants. Jai Hind. Vande Mataram.

Beloved Brethren,
Vandemaatram!

A group of young inspired and motivated proud Indians are about to
begin their 5000 km walk from Vivekananda Rock (Kanyakumari) tomorrow
(18th Dec 2011; Sunday), to across the India, that will culminate at
Delhi on 8th April 2012. This day is thought to be recognized as the
zero corruption day. Can we all join our hands together to support
this movement and pledge to become honest  at least for one day. This
one day is always a critical day in everybody life to step out and
lead a personal honest life. The personal ethics are test of your
manliness and key for resurgence of India. As swami Vivekananda said -
"Man is man, so long as he is struggling to rise above nature and his
nature is both internal and external. ……. And if we read the history
of nations between the lines, we shall always find that the rise of a
nation comes with an increase in the number of such men" ! Exactly,
this walk is aimed to gather like minded people, inspire honesty and
strengthen the courage is fellow Indians to fight out the menace of
corruption. Here are few suggestions:
1) go to face book: http://www.facebook.com/zerocorruptionday
2) get the information when and where the this walk will pass through
3) Walk with them,
4) forward the message through any form of media, word of mouth, fb,
email, banners, pamphlets, press coverage or writting letters to the
press/media agencies etc.
5) send your comments through facebook
6) Indians abroads are requested to convey their spirit through facebook

I ( an IITian; IITB 94-99) appeal all IITians (students, faculty and
staff) to show solidaity with this personal ethic movement; which in
Inturn will inspire millions of fellow Indian who views IITians as
their role model. Please convey the message, to your students,
collegues and fellow citizen you come across.
