Wonderful to hear from you and discover that all is well. How could it not be in such a lovely place? Have a wonderful holiday despite the absence of snow and ice. And, by the way, I have forgotten which month you are hosting the meeting and exactly what the book selection is to be?

Kafka on the Shore sounds perfect reading for St Kitts too!
Just wanted to pop in and wish you all a very happy holiday season. I gather that you may well be having a white Christmas this year! Stay warm and be happy, everyone.
Life is good down in the islands. St Kitts is a beautiful place and we are both really enjoying living here. Simon finds his job interesting and not too onerous and I am having fun snorkelling and singing (I joined the St Kitts Choral society). And I am getting some writing done too! The difficulty here is staying focused - there are just too many distractions for an anthropologist.
All best wishes to you all

I finally got time to examine the author who had been suggested as an addtion to
our reading list. He was born in Japan, but his family moved to Great Britain
when he was six years old. He has lived most of his life in England and Europe
and none of his novels deal with Japan. He is an excellent author, but I don't
think Ishiguro Kazuo fits our purpose. So let's stay with our current selection
which is "Kafka on the Shore." It is 480 pages long, so we probably need the
extra time anyway.
Kevin is hosting in January and has his shovel and snowblower ready!

Hi Harriet and All, I'm afraid that I won't be able to attend this evening after all. I am sorry to cry-off at the last minute but I feel a bit under the weather and am disinclined to spread whatever I might have. I managed to like the book a lot more by the time I'd finished than I thought I would after the first 50 or so pages. I'm sorry I'll be missing what will undoubtedly be a lively discussion given the content and the style of the book. Anyway, I'll get cracking on the next one and, if you need a host, let me know-although, as Lewis pointed out, I only host when the snow is at least two feet deep and there's no parking within a 5 mile radius of the house. All th best Kevin

Here are the directions to my place, 2141 Rome Dr. #C. My phone is 298-9315. I live at The Knoll, a condo complex on Knollton Rd. just north of W. 38th St.
Go west on 38th St. past the IMA and the river. Turn north (right) on Knollton Rd., the first stoplight after the IMA and the river. Turn left at the second driveway, the entrance to the Knoll. If someone is entering the gate, follow them in. The gate will sense the presence of
your car and reopen. If the gate is closed, use the up and down keys to bring my name (Harriet Wilkins) onto the screen. Then push the CALL button or enter the numbers next to my name. My phone will ring and I will open the gate from my unit. Turn right and follow the road as it turns left and becomes Rome Dr. After about a block, the road divides around a median. Park in one of the uncovered places to the right of the median. My unit is on the ground floor just before the median.
Friends, Due to the holidays, we will meet on Monday, November 16th in Harriet's home. Harriet will send directions in a few days. Our book this month is The Silent Cry. Our discussion will be anything but silent!!!
Have a great trip to Spain -- buen viaje! I used to live there and love that country! Have a glass of wine and some tapas for me, and whatever you do, don't miss seeing Picasso's Guernica in the Reina Sofia Museum. Enjoy, enjoy.

Harriet,
I am still waiting for the book. It was to be mailed to me ASAP, but alas, has not arrived. I leave town tomorrow afternoon and if I don't get it by then, I will skip the meeting. On Wed. I leave for Spain, so will put the time to good use. Will let you know for certain whether I am coming or not, but wanted to give you a heads up. My fingers are crossed that the book arrives tomorrow.

There is a plaque at the entrance to the small development. Our house is the first house on the right after turning into Timber Mill. If you pass 75th and come to 79th you have passed Timber Mill Lane. My telephone number is 255-3069. I look forward to meeting you next week. Madeline

I trust everyone has had a nice, cool summer and that you are now ready for the resumption of our reading group meetings. I would like to host our meeting on September 28 at 7:00 pm. My address is 17 Lakeshore Court. There have been some changes in our streets and you will have to negotiate the round-about at 106th and Keystone. It is not difficult, but just be prepared for it. 116th is partially closed at Keystone and I don't know what the status will be on it at the end of this month. So 106th is your best route.
When you get to the east end of the roundabout, you need to be in the left lane so as to be able to turn left about 50 yards out of the roundabout. Turn left on West Lakeshore Dr. and come to the second four way stop. Turn right and my drive is the second on the left at 17 Lakeshore Court. Telephone number is 580-9303.
Hi everyone, I'm afraid I'll be away for the first meeting but hope to read the book anyway. Have fun. Kevin

I have a copy of the book by Ryu Murakami and I have read it. If anyone would like to read my copy you can call me at 255 3069 Madeline I will be out of town for the September meeting but I can host the October meeting.
Good morning, dear husband, I went soundly to sleep until a little while ago. Still groggy. I want to get the day underway and accomplish some unfinished tasks and maybe spend some time with Laura and the girls. I don't have appointments (so far) until 4:00 - 7:00. so I'll take care of dinner plans.
Thank you for sending the booklist. . . I'll enjoy looking up the authors and reviews. Do you think we can share books? This may get to be a challenge but we can surely work something out. (Especially since I do most of my reading in the middle of the night :-).
I love you, Your Kathleen
