Hi...

I want to thank you too, James. It's great to see people who want to share
what they have with others who enjoy it too, without necessarily making a
profit. I recently have had an experience with someone who was asking $15.00
PER EPISODE for another series I wanted. It's nice to see people who aren't
greedy for a change.

By the way, is anyone going to Frightvision in Cleveland next year? From
their website, it looks like Gil Gerard and Erin Gray are both going to be
there. I can't wait!

That sounds like a great idea!

But will you be able to provide DVD's for NTSC region 1?
It would be a shame to limit it just to PAL or Europe.

Thanks for the effort!

First of all, this is a Web site and newsgroup is something I
created as a fan, for the fans.

Second, it is more my right to sell something on a Web site and
forum that I created than it is his, and I'm not out to gouge (not
gorge) the fans. There are plenty of other newsgroups and auction
sites to bother, unfortunately for us they've already shut him down
also.

Maybe the quality of his product is very good, I'm not disputing
that. But it doesn't make sense to me that someone can charge $40
per volume and at the same time say there not out to make a profit.
Why should we have to pay for his thousands of dollars of equipment?

When I put up my Buck Rogers Web site I didn't require everyone to
pay a fee so I could recoup (not recoop) the cost of my server's
hardware, software, and monthly Internet connection. No one would
have ever visited the site. I would venture to guess that I have
more time and money into my Web site than he has in his Buck Rogers
DVD business and he's already made more money off of the Web site's
visitors in the past month than I have since I created it almost
five years ago.

DVD is great quality, but the format is only five years old and the
cost of the technology continues to drop. Wouldn't all of us be
pretty upset to find we paid $40 per volume for his pirated DVDs to
then have Columbia House release the series on DVD for only $9.95
per volume? In my opinion, it makes more sense to acquire a VHS
quality version of an entire season on two video tapes for $25 than
two episodes from an analog VHS copy on DVD for $40.

If Universal released the entire series on video I wouldn't even
offer this as an option, because I have better things to do with my
time. But in an effort to keep him and those like him from
exploiting and benefiting from those in this forum I consider it a
worthwhile undertaking.

Even as I sit here and write this I already know that most of you
understand exactly what I'm talking about.

With that said, more information on availability and formats
(NTSC/PAL and VHS/DVD) are soon to follow.

Regards,
James

I think the sooner Universal completely release Buck Rogers on
VHS/DVD the better!
This is turning into a debate on whether it is right to sell copies.
Why should we be happy with copies anyway, we deserve better than
that. Being overlooked just isn't funny anymore.

We fans are just desperate to get the proper episodes and now we are
arguing about it.

Universal come to our rescue! So we can stop this nonsense.

I totally agree Rebecca!!! Many other shows are available, the whole
series! on either VHS and/or DVD. I had made my own copies way back in
the early 90's when Buck Rogers was shown on the Sci Fi channel but
something happened to them, so now I'm grateful to anyone who is willing
to put in the work and effort to make copies, esp. good quality copies
and share them with others. I'm willing, also, to pay them for their
effort. I would love to have the whole series, not just some episodes,
on DVD as well VHS. Amazon has a place where you can sign that you want
the first episode on DVD, but it is only the first episode and some
others are available on VHS but again, not the whole series. There also,
at one time, was an online petition to have the whole series available
but I've never heard anything come of it. BTW, Rebecca, I really like
your site and the links you have there.

I also think that the sooner Universal releases the entire Buck
Rogers series on VHS and DVD the better. The only question is will
they actually release it? Quite honestly, I don't think they will. I
continue to pray they'll prove me wrong, but I'm not holding my
breath.

When I see that Space 1999, V, Wonder Woman, and every single Star
Trek series has been released on DVD I have hope they will release
the Buck Rogers series. But at the same time I've begun to notice
that the episodes that have been released on VHS are now going out-
of-print. So one can only guess what the fate of Buck Rogers being
released in any way, shape, or form is.

So as the fans what do we do?

Some say we should hold out for the "official" releases from
Universal. I believe that the only way Universal will release the
series is if they see dollar signs. I'm not saying it won't happen,
but if you fall into this group you have a better chance of seeing
the Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox in a World Series together.

Some say that those who have copies of the series should make copies
for everyone else and only charge for the cost of the tape and
shipping. Of course, those same people say it's illegal to make a
profit, so they don't feel it is right for you to charge for your
time to make the copies, package the tapes, and take them to the
post office. If you fall into this group just know that in the
almost five years since I started my site (which is the most visited
Buck Rogers site on the Internet) not one person, to my knowledge,
has come forth to volunteer to make copies for other fans at no cost.

Then there are those who want to transfer 2 episodes to DVD and
charge people $40 each. I figured out that if someone purchased all
11 volumes that constitute season one it would cost them $440. If
any of you fall into this group, I also have a bridge I can sell
you.

Finally, there are those that I hear from everyday that loved the
series growing up and just want to enjoy watching it again. They
don't want to wait for Universal to get their act together, they've
already tried to get someone to make them copies for free and no one
has, and they don't want to have to pay more than it's worth to get
a copy of the series. If you fall into this group or you can
identify with those who might fall into this group then I know you
get it.

The rest of you may flame me for what say and do, but ultimately I'm
a fan just trying to help out the fans that fall into group 4.

Take care,
James

I guess I'm just fed up hearing of other fans 'bargaining' with each
other for old copies taped off TV, discussing shipping costs and
signing petitions.

It seems as though nearly every Sci-fi show is on DVD, staring at you
from the local HMV stores shelves. And yes James I suppose if you did
hold your breath you'd turn blue before they'd release it.

It just really saddens me to think that we even have to
discuss/debate this.

Petitions, Shipping costs, profit, illegal or not. $100 an episode,
whatever! Universal are the ones who are going to lose out on this. I
mean come on..hello...we fans are waiting and waiting and waiting and
waiting! And I'm waiting for it on DVD, so there! :)

But Battlestar Galactica the 'movie' is available on VHS/DVD. And I
hear that Universal maybe releasing the series on DVD sometime next
year. It is already on VHS. Here in Britain anyway!

enjoyable series

maybe one of the 'best of the best' although there's so many si-fi around
nowadays it's chaos

interesting that people still like the nostalgia of the more kitsch tv series
and their stars at all.

vids, screenplays, background stuff of most interest to moi.
food for thought! to elaborate .... beedeebeedeebeedeebeedee ..... the whole BR
theme must have been an astronomically hard process to create. those stars can
certainly hold their own :)) i'm truly a fan.

plus finally have crossed the vacuum and connected to the 'grog' site :))

Those who are still members can post to the group freely, but I set

I've seen most of the tv shows, and have played the rpg. I'm looking
for links usable for the rpg. Perhaps a complete listing of all the
novels and/or rpg accessories.
Thanks
