Bud,

What exactly do you mean by best fuel for the rpm?

For us, we bring the boat up to around 3000 grand to get her on plan, then drop back to 2600rpm.  Fuel flow is around 11gph per engine, and we are doing about 22mph.  I think we found this to be out most effective cruise speed.   Trying to go off memory for those numbers.  Granted we could putt-putt to our location at 8mph and say burn 5gph per engine, but when you calculate 1 hour to get too our cover @ 5gph/per egnine, then we spend 10gallons of gas vs 11gph/per engine for 21 minutes, which would be 8 gallons.  So really we just saved 2 gallons of gas and 40 minutes of time.

You really need to check your fuelflow's and speed and see what really works for you.

It is actually quite common that brokers (and owners) are mistaken about which model line  of Chris Craft they are dealing with. If you study some of the largest brokerage sites you will form time to time come across boats labeled as "Commanders" which clearly are not Commanders and vice versa.

The Winter 2009 Edition of "Styled in Fiberglass" is now available online at the club's website (www.commanderclub.com). I'm proud of this issue, as I feared it might end up being about 5 pages when I started with little material. The members came through for me (as they always do), and really ramped up this issue to be something incredibly enjoyable to read. I hope you think so as well.

It is available in two formats (low resolution for onscreen viewing and high resolution for printing). I'm most excited about having contributions from new members, as well as longtime members. I think it's this old and new that really makes for a quality publication.

I trust you will enjoy it, and look forward to any comments you might have.

I have provided "clickable" links in this message for easier navigation.

Rob Cutchins, PR Chairman

It is actually quite common that brokers (and owners) are mistaken about which model line  of Chris Craft they are dealing with. If you study some of the largest brokerage sites you will form time to time come across boats labeled as "Commanders" which clearly are not Commanders and vice versa.

There was a 57' Commander model, but it was a very unusual. As far as I know only two were built. They were tournament fishermans built in the mid eighties for two Chris Craft executives.

On Yachtforums.com there is a listing for a 1969 57 foot Commander, however; I can not find a record of a 57 foot Commander ever being built. Has anyone found a record of this boat?

Jim Wick is most correct (as always he is) when he stated the correct props for the 31 Commander. They are the #1024 and #1025 Chris Craft Equa Poise 3 blade 15x17 wheels.

I have the dup set of wheels on my 69 31 Sedan.
I had a spare set, which were 15x19s and had them repitched.... and were never happy with them...a very noticeable vibration at low speeds.

I gained a set of the original 15x17 wheels with the 66 32 Sea Skiff i bought as a donor/parts boat for the flybridge project back in 02, and had those props dusted off and installed that spring, and have never had a problem since.  So smooth now that i can set a famous Anderson Bloody Mary up on the helm and never make one pepper chunk fall off an ice cube or a jalapeno stuffed olive. This is important in my world.

My story and i'm stickin to it. (^_^)

Fellow Commander Lovers:

This is an update to the question I posted previously asking about what are the proper propellers for a 31' Commander Express.

To recap:
1) Our boat's original shipping document showed FXA-31-2015H was shipped with #1025 Port Wheel and a #1024 Starboard Wheel.
2) The props currently installed on Martha are: 15X16 on Port;  15X17 on Starboard
3) I checked the Super Disk and determined that the #1025 LH Port Wheel and a #1024 RH Starboard Wheel were both 15X17 T36 propellers.
4) Our Velvet Drive Reverse Gears are both 1.52 to 1.

Marcia and I went to visit Martha Ann, currently on blocks on the hard awaiting trim paint... it is unusually cold here and we wanted to ensure that there were plenty of good extensions cords and heaters to keep her plumbing and engines warm... all was well in that regard.
While there I checked the spare props that came with Martha when we purchased her.  And, now we are a bit confused, and request some interpretation assistance from the propeller experts of our group.
What I found stamped on the spare propellers was:
1) Prop #1 # "342B"  "17RH15" and "D369B" ........... on the end was stamped "8044"
2) Prop #2 # "316B"  "17LH15" and "D869A" ........... on the end was stamped "8044"

I am confused because the spare props are "17X15" vs. the originally installed props of 15X17, vs. what is currently installed on the boat of 15X16 and 15X17!
Based on the three responses, Jim Wick, Dick Morland, and Lawrence Neisler it seems that my spare props proportions are reversed from what they should be.  I wonder, how can that be.

So, I want to confirm that the spare props are incorrect (currently at 17X15 vs. the correct 15X17).

And, I want to confirm that they can be reshaped into the correct pitch.

I've attached the photos.

Any 57' CC is likely to be a (wood) Constrellation.  They were in my opinion the ultimate expression of a well proportioned larger cruiser.

It would either be a 55' or a 60', but NO 57'.

I have a 1980 410 Motor Yacht with the flybridge. The boat was repowered in
1997 by previous owner with Crusader 454's with Delco EST ignition. The boat
has some wiring discrepancies between the two engines that I am trying to
resolve. The boat has a single on/off key and two off/on/start toggles, one for
port engine, and one for starboard engine. When the key is turned to "on" the
port hourmeter starts to click and record time (with the port start switch still
off). The starboard hourmeter does not start until the starboard engine is
running. In addition, the port warning lights and buzzer do not work. The
starboard lights and buzzer come on when the start switch is turned to "on" and
stop after the engine starts. The starboard lights and buzzer also work when
the alarm test push button is depressed. The port lights and alarm do not come
on at all even with the alarm test push button. As my troubleshooting
confidence has increased, my capacity to do stupid things has increased also. I
thought that I would do some troubleshooting by apply 12 volts to the pins on
the back of the instrument panel to determine which pin and wire lit the port
warning lights and alarm. I did this with the engines running, don't ask me
why, I just did. One pin acted like a kill switch for the port engine. I
restarted the engine without a problem. Unfortunately,(really stupid), I did it
again. Now I cannot get the port engine to start. It turns over and seems to
fire just for an instant, but does not start. You help is appreciated. I
realize it is difficult to fix stupid, but I promise that I will try harded
(think more).
