It reads 'anime'...
Yeah.. thank you is 'arigatoo' but there are many forms.. you can just say
'domo' or say 'hontoni arigatoo', 'domo arigatoo gozaimasu' - more formal -
or 'domo sumimasen' - lit. sorry -..etc. Well, I'm not so sure.. ask Jessica
for a better explanation ^_*

and maybe there is 'Arigatoo Gozaimashita'..!

Didn't it cost around 30F? It was #23 in September 2000, whew... what

I just can't say... it's too abstract to say what she meant... My guess is that
the Dolphin might be saying Ran and the shark being
herself... But there is always an indefinite number of interpretions... You know
that (Spoiler), Conan said to all kids: (point to a girl
who had her back towards the kids) "I'd better like those like that girl with
barry blue swimsuits...", but it turned out that she's Ran,
who in chance also went to Izi with Sonoko. Ai might think that there's some
cosmic connection between Shinichi-Conan and Ran, and she's at
an impossible place to go between.

Still the same: Cantonese and Japanese. This time they put 1 ep on 1 VCD, and
each one sells HK$20 (~US$3.5), and 3 eps per week. This is
making me bankrupt... A very weird type of error occured in the first batch;
what were in Discs 1-3, according to the labels, were "John",
"Kogoro's alumni Club Part 1" and "Kogoro's alumni Club Part 2" respectively,
but in reality the order was changed, with the Kogoro's eps
first and the dog's case last when it was on disc.

About the old list:
There were some changes; so this list I would include most of the main names
(Shinichi is always excluded; I decide not to touch it until
I've finished the others.).

My rule: if the name of the person stemmed from a westerner, I would stick to
their names as much as I know. However, if the name has an
Japanese origin or has no origin, I would change the names by sound or by part
of the meanings of some of the Kanji.

The List:
Edogawa Conan: Edogawa Conan (Anyone with that bit of consciousness would not
try to alter.)
Mouri Ran: Blanche Maurice (If this is not possible, Sharon can be used. This is
based on Cantonese pronuncation of Ran, "Siu-larn".)
Mouri Kogoro: Auguste D Maurice (Dupin was shortened to "D", which is the full
middle name like Truman.)
Dr.Agasa: Dr.Alcazar
Megure Junzo: Jack Megure
Suzuki Sonoko:Gardenia Sark ("Sono" have a meaning of "garden".)
Ayumi: Adrienna
Genta:Gerald
Haibara Ai: I Grey (Yes, a single letter for her first name.)
Mitsuhito: (I still can't get a suitable name. My first try was Michael, but
this do not fit in him.)
Hattori Heiji: Hedrick Hart (With his father Heinz)
Toyama Kazuha: Vanessa Hill (I don't know why I got Vanessa, but let it be.
"Hill" is from the Japanese "yama" which meant hill or
mountain.)
Shiratori Ninsanro: Nestor Whitebred ("Shiratori" meant "white bird". A bit of
sound-tweaking.)
Sato Miwano: Miriam Santas

I've been a Conan addict for about 4-5 years, and I started my whole
addiction to manga when I was a five-year-old girl (hint: the first
manga I read was "Candy Candy", the next ones were KungFu Boy and
Doraemon...)

Still the same: DC (always my #1 ^__^), Rayearth - especially Eagle
and Mocona, Orpheus no Mado (basically almost everything by Riyoko
Ikeda), Kanata Kara, KungFu Boy (both New and 'Old'), 'Serial
Misteri' (Mystery Series - a collection of *scary* manga), Kindaichi,
Evangelion (it WAS my pastime favourite - it doesn't appeal me any
longer though).

Most of them are involved in either mystery-solving or plot-
developing, which are rather hard... ^__~;> btw, I promise I'll

Aaah, I'm really desperate for any non-minor spoilers as long as the

I like the way she speaks, actually ^__^ She's really full in words
and philosopicals thoughts. Moreover, she often predicts something
that's about to happen - she's a sort of spoiler-generating character.

I do not fancy any name changes, but having a finger in the subject
would be desirable...

> Edogawa Conan: Edogawa Conan (Anyone with that bit of consciousness

No one should alter this, not even into 'Conan Blassi'. The worst I
can think of is "Christie Conan", which still have a detective-y hint
in it.

> Mouri Ran: Blanche Maurice (If this is not possible, Sharon can be

Sharon's my name!! ^__^
(My full name officially consists of three words, but Sharon is
something different that means myself too...)

> Dr.Agasa: Dr.Alcazar

I prefer Dr. Soltrez (referring to French - Agasa's name is "really
sunny" when referred to the sun-moon-stars hiragana diagram in #12).

> Suzuki Sonoko:Gardenia Sark ("Sono" have a meaning of "garden".)

Nice choice of name... gardenia is a flower.

> Mitsuhito: (I still can't get a suitable name. My first try was
Michael, but this do not fit in him.)

Martin, a kiddy latin name for Mars. He's still a good guy, after all
^__^

> Hattori Heiji: Hedrick Hart (With his father Heinz)

*joking* Heinz tomato sauce... yummy~~!

> Shiratori Ninsanro: Nestor Whitebred ("Shiratori" meant "white

An alternative: Nixon Loiseau-Blanc (the French translation is pretty
obvious, isn't it? o__O)

> Sato Miwano: Miriam Santas

Too Spanish. Margareth [Margy] Summers is much more English-sounding.

I don't have any baby names' books, so if anyone has any other
alternatives... go on, have fun on it.

Just curious. I have been wondering about the ranking. Have you got it
from Anihabara? I wonder if this is Kaichou's personal ranking or if it's
some official ranking? I'd be shocked to see Saiyuki in the 20th place if
it's official.

Since there seem to be now objections, I'll do a little post about
the 5th movie. There will be some spoilers, but I'll try to keep them
minor! ^^

First of all, it helps if you've seen the first Conan movie because
there are some references made to the main criminal in that one. I'm
not going to name the main crim in the first in case there are people
reading who haven't seen it yet. ^^

Unlike the previous movies, this one has 2 plots. The first one is
your standard murder-of-the-day as seen in the regular series, but
the other one has to do with Ai.

Because of the Ai plot line there is a bigger focus on the Detective
Boys than there was in the last 4 - where they were more supporting
figures to the main action. For Ran and Shinichi fans like me there
are not alot of scenes focus on them... although there are a couple
of _great_ bits!

The Ai plotline brings in Gin and Vodka and for a while it looks as
if Ai is contacting them. However, I'm not going to say if she is or
isn't here... I'll make a 2nd spoiler space for those who just can't
live without knowing! ^_~

The movie starts with Agasa, Conan, Ai and the Detective boys going
on a camping trip. The kids marvel at the site of Mt Fuji and it's
noted that a new skyscraper has been built in front of it. During the
night, Genta sees Ai at the payphone, talking to someone. The scene
then switches to Gin and Vodka in their big black car (bbcar from now
on ^^). Vodka puts down the phone, but his words are drowned out by a
passing truck. Coming back from the camp, Genta asks Ai who she was
calling, but she won't say.

Agasa takes them to the new skyscraper that they saw on the way -
unfortunately I couldn't catch _why_ they were going! (I did say my
Japanese was poor!!). Outside they meet Ran, Mouri and Sonoko.
Mouri's been invited (I think????) by an old friend (??? again, I
wasn't sure, but she could've been a classmate or student) who is the
Director/Manager (?????? Argh! Couldn't catch that one either!!) in
the skyscraper. They also meet a number of other people (you know,
the ones you _know_ are either going to die or murder someone ^^).

Ummm... I'm not entirely sure what kind of company it was... but I
think it had something to do with electronics...

Anyway, they all wind up going up (riding on an outside elevator -
it's lucky no one's scared of heights! You wouldn't have got _me_ on
that thing ^^) to a floor which is full of gadgets. One of them is a
special device which scans your face and then produces a picture of
what you would look like in 10 years. The detective boys try - Ayumi
is going to be VERY pretty when she grows up, Genta and Mitsuhiko are
never going to be bishonen though ^^;;. Sonoko is less than pleased
with her result (don't know why, because she looks quite pretty!).
Apparently Ran is very beautiful, her picture wasn't shown, but from
the way everyone was sighing over her picture and Conan was
blushing...

Naturally neither Ai nor Conan want their pictures taken, but they're
dumped in anyway. Luckily for them the computer crashes! ^^

A little while later, Conan is alarmed when he overhears one man
talking about seeing a bbcar with 2 men in black outside. He races to
the elevator (much to everyone's constination) and gets to the bottom
in time to see the bbcar drive away - yes, it was Gin and Vodka's
car. So naturally he's now wondering about _why_ they were there.

The first murder happens... and it's one of the people from the
skyscraper. The man is stabbed and a white sake cup split in two is
placed by him.

The detective boys decide that they want to figure out who the
murderer is, and Conan goes with them to try and keep them out of
trouble... and because _he_ wants to know too! ^^

Meanwhile Ai is still making strange phone calls at night and acting
oddly... well, more oddly than usual. ^^;

Conan and the kids stumble in on the 2nd murder, again a split sake
cup has been left by the body. Conan notices something odd about the
cup this time though (although of course the audience doesn't see
_exactly_ what!)

Mouri gets an invitation to a party from his friend... it also
invites Ran, Sonoko, Conan, Ai and the kids.

At this point the whole thing with Ai, Gin and Vodka is revealled...
But as I said, I'm not going say yet what it is.

Somebody sneaks into the skyscraper at night and plants something...

The next day, everyone's ready for the party and Sonoko shows up with
a new hairstyle that looks _exactly_ like Ai's. *Shakes head* That
girl needs serious help...

And the stage is set for the grand finale. ^^

Okay, I hope that didn't spoil too much for people! For those who
want more, proceed past the 2nd spoiler space. The rest of you, shoo!
^^

About Ai.... It looks for a while that she is the one contacting Gin
and Vodka. However, midway through the movie, Gin and Vodka are
ransacking her sister's old apartment, looking for some clue as
to 'Sherry's' whereabouts. They find that Sherry has been leaving
messages on her sister's answering machine and figure that Sherry
will call back again. They set up a phone tap and sure enough, Ai
calls... they nearly have the number traced when Conan pulls the
plug.

From what I could gather, Ai was feeling very lonely and depressed
and started calling her sister's answering machine so that she
could "hear" her sister's voice.

SO as yet, Gin and Vodka don't know about Ai's whereabouts or about
Conan. However, they have an informant who tells them that Sherry
will be at the party. *scratches head* This is where I curse my
limited knowledge because I'm not sure _exactly_ what imformation Gin
and Vodka got and _exactly_ why they put a whole load of bombs on the
skyscraper.

*Yawns* Ok, time for me to sleep now... hope that satisfied some
people's curiousity! ^^

Ja ne,

Orla

Thank you for the spoilers,I just wanna add something:(watch out, the reader must be over 18(just kidding..)but it has small spoilers in it

I think the reason why Gin and Vodka put a whole load o'bombs on the skyscraper is because they thought that Sherry is in the skyscraper(which is actually Sonoko with her "Ai" hair) I haven't seen the movie yet (maybe never:( ) but I got this from a friend in Japan, though he is an American. They're trying to kill her but Conan saved her.

Subject: [conan] Spoilers for the 5th movie

Meanwhile Ai is still making strange phone calls at night and acting
oddly... well, more oddly than usual. ^^;

Ja ne,

Orla

oh yes they are. elex is the largest book publisher, they must have some
people who have futuristical sense.
By the way, what really is the thing ont hepicture? I thought it was a

I am not sure.. I am confused myself... gotta check on that. But remember,
this is ANIME and NOT MANGA which simply means this is the ranking of the TV
shows not the comic books...

390 Yen??????!!!!

Oh, it's too expensive to me......(if i live in Japan >_>)...
Because 390 Yen = 390 x Rp. 97,-
                             = Rp. 37.830,-
In indonesia, that i bought it by my self is Rp. 8.000 - Rp. 9.000 not Rp.
37.830,-
Can't you feel that price is too expensive?????

Thanks

If you lived in Japan, then you'd probably be used to the Japanese cost
of living. ^_^ (Which is definitely one of the highest in the world . . .) This
is actually pretty cheap, as Japanese books go. Manga is generally
inexpensive, while the novels go from 600 - 3000 yen, depending on
whether they're paperback or hardcover . . . Manga are almost always
in the 200 - 600 yen range, except for big-sized anthologies.

My goodness . . . at the current exchange rate, that would be
US$0.68 - 0.76. Of course, the cost of living and economy in both
countries are totally different, so I guess there's actually no comparison.
In Japanese currency, that would be 85 - 95 yen, and no new books go
for that price nowadays, but then the same issue applies . . .

survive in the end; Gin or Shin'Conan.

well, is spiderman & ghostbuster an anime? they are just cartoons, I think.

Hi,
This is kinda weird, after MIB eliminating one of its
member, it always destroy everything/everyone
which/who are related to him/her(Pisco, Ai's lab,
etc.) Remember, after they killed Masami, it took some
days before Ai escaped. It's possible in between those
days MIB destroyed everyhing related to Masami. And,
also, who pay Masami's telephone bill ?

I guess this is a trap set by MIB...

Thanks.

Hi!! Nice to meet you all!!! I'm Aichan ^__^ I joined this list some days ago, and after reading the messages for these days, I've come to notice that this is a really great list!!! ^__^ No need to say I'm a big fan of Meitantei Conan... I really like you all.
To begin with, I'll make a reply ^__^

If you lived in Japan, then you'd probably be used to the Japanese cost
of living. ^_^  (Which is definitely one of the highest in the world . . .) This
is actually pretty cheap, as Japanese books go.  Manga is generally
inexpensive, while the novels go from 600 - 3000 yen, depending on
whether they're paperback or hardcover . . . Manga are almost always
in the 200 - 600 yen range, except for big-sized anthologies.

Well, I can't say it's expensive... I live in Spain, and when MC was on sale (they stopped selling it because of low sells... T_T ) it costed 995 ptas, which would be like 650 yens, more or less... so it's really cheap for me.  (don't wonder it didn't sell... it's really expensive here )

So, that was my humble first reply to the list. I will tell you more of myself in next messages, k? ^__^

Bye!!

Aichan

Oh, it's too expensive to me......(if i live in Japan >_>)...
Because 390 Yen = 390 x Rp. 97,-
                           = Rp. 37.830,-
In indonesia, that i bought it by my self is Rp. 8.000 - Rp. 9.000 not Rp.
37.830,-
Can't you feel that price is too expensive?????

Thanks

Konnichiwa ^_^ I'm sorta new here. I really think 390 yen isn't a lot. It
should be abuot $3.90 here in the US,, or less. About 126 yen=$1. Graphic
novels sold here are about $10+ which is about 1260 yen. Well that's all. Ja
