Dear Beth,

Well, welcome indeed!

While I started my life here, very soon I was off into a variety of
"foreign lands" that ranged from Cape Cod to Cambridge and Belmont and then
Asia.
We have been back "home" some eighteen years now.

Rick

Thanks for the welcome, Rick. I'm new at this group stuff, so hope this msg
gets where I expect it to go!

Debbie suggested that I tell you the name of the lady who started the
laundromat. Some of you "mature" folks might remember her. Her name is Betty
Clark. She lived in Lincoln, but was a most welcome citizen of Concord.

She is now 94, lives on her own in her comfy home, and still has the quick wit
and delightful sense of humor I first encountered some 55 years ago.

She's pretty sure the laundromat opened in the mid-50's, but would love to know
exactly when. She just told me she still has some of her business cards!

Thanks for any help.

Cheers!

Beth

Good afternoon!

Just heard from Betty Clark who is thrilled that someone may be able to help her
learn when her Maytag laundromat opened.

She asked me if I knew the name of the brook/creek behind her business. I think
it is (was?) the Milldam Creek or something similar.

Thanks!

Cheers!

I lived in Italy where the mosquitoes abound and you must use nets to sleep.
Large Citronella candles used liberally work well.

The best non-DEET product, *Bite Blocker for Kids* with 2% soybean oil, was
effective for 94.6 minutes (about 1.5 hours). Repellents with citronella did
not work very well: *Natrapel* with 10% citronella and *Herbal Armor* with
12% citronella kept mosquitoes away for less than 20 minutes.

I am a human mosquito magnet, much beloved at outdoor gatherings for
the way I draw the little devils away from everyone else. REPEL
works for several hours for me -- at least 4. If anyone knows where
to get it locally, I'd be happy to know -- their website only lists
Target stores. I've bought it online. Here's info about the item I've
used:

There you have it, Kate should Debbie to her party!

I plant for dragonflies, and stop eating bananas in March, and the yard was also
cleared of underbrush and sprinkled with garlic and caster oil. We use 3M
Ultrathon as necessary; have only needed it the first few weeks the mosquitoes
were out and the dragonflies weren't out yet.

India,

Here is a link to an online database with a meeting list. You might want to
select a number of nearby towns, not just Concord, and try several meetings.
Like any other group, there is something of a matter of personal fit in
finding the best one for you.

http://www.ma-al-anon-alateen.org/findameeting.php
<http://www.CaringCompanion.Net>

I do not have any experience with any of these meetings but probably some
members do. Given the tradition of anonymity in those groups, however, it's
probably best if those conversations take place off-list.

I noticed the same thing about two weeks ago. Walcott's phones went
unanswered, both in Arlington and in Bedford. When I drove by, there was a
sign on the door saying "Coming soon" and giving the name of an appliance
dealership beginning with "D" but I did not retain the name. Since then, I
have come to believe that it is the appliance dealership in Reading.

That's all I know.

Hugh

The appliance store in Bedford has changed names (and ownership).
Can't for the life of me remember the new name even though I met one
of their staff and talked with them about it just last week. Can
anyone help?

Hugh, he did say they were located elsewhere, and that they bought
only the Bedford store of Walcott. Darn, you'd think the phones would
forward? Walcott's website is gone, too.

Reading does sound familiar now that you mention it. But googling
Reading and appliances gets to Doyons, and they dont' seem to mention
a Bedford store.

Of course, that need not prove anything.

thanks,
Debbie

Not 100% sure, but perhaps its something like Doylan's.

I too cannot recall, though I have driven by quite a few times in the past
couple of weeks.

Hi India,
We live in an area exceptionally rich in Al Anon recovery. Feel free to contact
me at Dawnapro@...
The meeting book has listings of most meetings and what types they are. I
believe Tuesday in Bedford is for parents, there are ACOA and general meetings.
There are usually newcomers packets with meeting books at the police station in
the lobby to the right.

We can't check the voice mail on either of our phone #'s. Neither of
our passwords are being recognized. And their online identity
verification system doesn't seem to accept or recognize our
information.

AND Verizon is on strike, so getting someone on the phone will take forever.

Does anyone else have this problem today? If so, how did you solve it?

best,
Debbie

I did not have any problem connecting to my voice mailbox. It recognized my

Hugh, thank you so much for that reality check!

It made me NOT use the stored phone #' and passcode in my phone
system and to do it manually. I found that the phone lines on this
hard-wired phone had gotten reversed.

Early this morning, Rich moved our portable phone to a new location
and said I needed to check to make sure he hadn't switched the lines
accidentally. How that has translated to a switch in the hard-wired
phone, I don't know, but at least I see Verizon isn't the problem!

thanks,
Debbie
