I regret to have to announce the death this afternoon of Harry Windsor MBE. He held at one time or another many offices within the Coventry DG, being the President for 10 years. He was a member of the Central Council for many years until his death and was also a noted expert with regard to the effects bells have on the towers in which they are housed.
Does anyone know what time Harry Windsor's funeral is on Wednesday?
The Cathedral bells will be available for open ringing at some point during
the day but I need to find out what time to arrange it for.
Thanks,
Jeanette

There is a "private cremation" (presumably a family affair) which is to be followed at 1.00 by a service of Thanksgiving in Harbury Church on Wednesday 29th August.
Coventry Cathedral bells will be available to all for open ringing on
Wednesday 29th August, 10am - 11.30am.
For Harry's Service of Thanksgiving (Harbury church, 1pm) I believe that
ringing beforehand is for Harbury ringers only and ringing afterwards is
open to all.
Please pass this on to anyone I may have missed.
Regards,
Jeanette

Does anyone have more details about this outing ?
Is anyone in the Kenilworth area willing to give a poor-quality
transportless ringer a lift ?

Sorry for the late notice - chance to grab a ring of one!
Wolfhampcote (2*) 2.15 – 2.45 pm
This church is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.
*It has two bells, one of which is hung for ringing
The building dates mostly from the 13th and 14th centuries and has a
memorable medieval wooden screen, as well as a Queen Anne Royal Arms
and the Victorian Hood mausoleum.
Please note: it may be advisable to approach the village from the west
ie from Flecknoe direction, as the track from the A45 at Braunston
requires extreme caution when traversing!!
Willoughby (6) 3.15 – 4.00 pm
Leamington Hastings (5) 4.15 – 5.00 pm
Service at 5.00 pm
Followed by Tea and Short Business Meeting
Details a bit different from meetings cards.
Ringing
3.00—4.00pm Fillongley,

followed by service, tea and meeting at Exhall.
Further ringing after the meeting.

Sigh! Fillongley are now not available - not the fault of the ringers!
We are now going to ring at Allesley instead of Fillongley between 3
and 4pm. Other details as before.
PLEASE spread the word about this change of a change of venue!

Following the Coventry Cathedral ringers' AGM last week, the following changes
have been made to ringing times:
The second Thursday of each month was previously being used for encouraging
learners to have a go on higher numbers. Since this practice was often poorly
attended it has now been replaced (see below).
The advanced practice on the second Sunday afternoon of each month is being
incorporated into a Thursday night practice and will now take place on the
second Thursday evening of every month 7:30pm - 9pm. Advanced methods are to
include Bristol Max, Lincolnshire Max and Stedman Cinques.
The "Last Saturday" practice, which has been aimed at improving
ringing on higher numbers for all Guild members, has been replaced by a quarter
peal slot (7pm, every last Saturday of the month) which is for the same
purpose. These will be quarter peals such as Grandsire and Little Bob on higher
numbers. The main purpose is that each quarter is for the benefit of one or
more Guild member to try and help improve their ringing / confidence on higer
numbers. If you wish to take part in one of these, please contact either myself
or Graham Hayward and we will be happy to arrange a quarter peal for you /
include you in one. Alternatively if you would like to book the slot yourself then
please let us know.
Thursday evening practices remain as 7:30pm - 9pm
Sunday morning ringing remains as 11:30am - 12:30pm
So in brief:
The second Sunday practice has been replaced by advanced ringing
on the second Thursday
The Last Saturday is now a quarter peal, rather than an open
practice
Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings remain the same
Regards,
Jeanette

Hello Graham, not sure if you got this on your other address so I am sending it again just in case!
The next quarter I am fixing is Mollington (nr Banbury) on Thursday 11th November - Kent Minorfor one of our local ringers. 7.30
The next is Thursday Nov 8th (a big gap because we are on holiday) 7.30 at Todenham, Gloucs. I know neither of these are in Warwickshire but usually we do go for towers around Warwick which are in Warwickshire!
Are you able to ring in one or both?
Cheers

Guild Members might like to know that Kineton PCC have backed a scheme
to fill the two empty pits in the frame, (after 90 odd years of
waiting! ;-) ), install sound control and to make the tower a training
resource for the area, with a simulator.
All is needed know is the money. I am sure that the ringers would
welcome your donations!
Good luck
Mike

Hello Mike,
I am wondering whether it is possible for you to help us to trace
ringers who would like to ring for the wedding of Arthur and Jane on
January 5th 2008. Both of them are very well known in the diocese
and I am wracking my brains over how to identify such people.
Arthur has been a Reader in the parish of Newbold-on-Avon with Long
Lawford for over fifty years and is chaplain to a host of ex-service
organisations related to the Royal Navy as well as to other
charitable organisations, and is Chair of the Governors of Avon
Valley School.
Jane has a very long history of service to The Girl Guides, including
as County Commissioner.
If you encounter anybody who would like to join in the pre-service
ringing, Perhaps you would be so kind as to ask them to contact me on
01788 560960 or timweedon@... ?
With many thanks for your help and best regards,
Tim
Could I please ask that everyone makes an effort to attend this
service, 11am on Saturday week at St Mary's, Warwick? Bring a friend!
I believe that there are a small number of tickets left for the lunch.
Contact Chris Mew if you would like one.
Mike
