Description

This email list is for discussing creationism, and for discussing various aspects of religion, philosophy, or science which are relevant to the general subject of creationism.

Note that creationism here refers to either (a) young earth creationism, the idea from one interpretation of Genesis that God created the universe and the earth about 6,000 years ago; or (b) old earth creationism (aka, "progressive creationism"), the idea from another interpretation of Genesis that God created the universe and the earth at some indeterminate time in the past. Both young earth creationists (YECs) and old earth creationists (OECs) agree on the idea that biological evolution is wrong.

Examples of appropriate discussion: (a) criticizing the YEC argument that the sun is shrinking at a rate that does not allow for an ancient solar system, (b) getting into philosophical details regarding the non-teleological nature of natural selection or genetic drift, (c) talking about the Kuiper Belt and recent discoveries since many YECs are still trying to claim that people who accept an ancient universe have no explanation for short-term comets, (d) criticizing atheistic evolutionists by showing weaknesses in various naturalistic origin-of-life theories and getting into some relevant details.

Two things will not be tolerated: (1) Profanity. (2) Irrational intolerance (i.e., if you can't discuss topics in this subject area without referring to those who disagree with you as a "slimeball-sucking, humanistic atheist" or an "illiterate, Bible-thumping, fundamentalist freak," then STAY AWAY.

This is not intended or meant to keep anyone from getting into a good, intense, or even "spicy" discussion of issues, digging into details, and "calling people on the carpet" for being hasty and careless with their claims. Go right ahead and be passionate, critical, and smart. Just minimize the antagonistic labeling that frequently characterizes the vocabulary of some.
