It's that time of year again where the regular writers get to take a break. Next
Friday, the annual Newcomers story contest will be opened. This is for any
writer who hasn't contributed to a previous contest at this group.
And just in case the existing writers can't bear to not enter, we are also
hosting the Missed Opportunities contest where they can retroactively enter an
existing contest topic. Sadly, it won't allow you to win those contests. We
tried but some rogue Gallifrean kept stopping us.
The contests will open on the Friday 1st April and close on Sunday 1st May. As
usual, all the normal rules for story content are in place.
I just remembered that this group isn't an adults only story group. And since
the story is very adult oriented, I deleted it. If you enjoy adult oriented
illusion stories, I will be posting it in the Magic Bookshelf group.
I guess it would have been a good idea to mention that the story I deleted is
Bound Trust. I just noticed that I didn't mention that small detail.

How do I access your story "Bound Trust?"

As the author has said, that story was removed from this group for the adult
contents. It can still be found in the Magic Bookshelf group.

Awesome story! I really like how your stories focus on the characters as much as
the magic.

Chers,

I may be a little out of touch, there use to be a large group of sites and clubs
on and about magic, illusion, real and cyber. Story submissions, illustrations,
and manipulations appeared fairly regularly at some or most of the sites with
good club participation and visitor participation. Have most of these people
moved on to other sites, or using different avenues to stay in contact?
The activities here have stayed fairly strong, though not being a writer i do
have more of a passing interest in looking over the stored stories in the Files.
It because of you constant active that i'm asking here.
Do i happen to be in the wrong time zone in the americas?
Are there other club/ social sites that the discussions have moved to? if so
where?
yahoo as far as i can tell has boiled down to maybe 5 or so clubs like this that
enjoy the fantasy part of magic and magicians and there assistants. so any
thoughts or am i really just missing the hay days of the past and this is the
hard core crew of us now?
I enjoyed the meetings and being able to discuss the solutions to various tricks
and illusions.Irecently gave my great grandson my linking rings and lots of
magic I accumulated over the years. I started in Magic at age 7 and I am still
amazed!

I have posted a new story called The Mountain Girl in my folder. If you're only
interested in the magic, you might want to wait until part two is posted.
I've written a number of sawing stories for the group, and to be honest with
you, I feel like they are starting to look alike. I would be very happy to
receive imput for ideas for future stories. They don't have to be sawing
stories.
I think there's one high school story that you have written that almost had the
asrah levitation performed, but was changed to sawing illusion. Was wondering if
you could write stories with levitations or vanishes, and to add a twist, it
would be performed to an audience member, since in real life it will never been
possible. Probably have a setting where real magic is used in the story, and the
audience volunteer would not have a single idea how the illusion was being done.

Jim:
You do a great job. IF you feeling like you are stuck in a rut, unleash your
imagination and see what you can come up with. Sometimes, sketching out an
illusion may give you inspiration. That is what I used to do. Feel free to
read some of my stories if you are interested.

As the last few contests have been a bit empty, and because thinking up new
themes is a tough job, we are considering making some of our contests themeless.
This would hopefully allow writers to enter without having to cram their ideas
into the contest theme with a crowbar and thus get more entries into the
contests.
If we do decide to proceed with this, it would start with the next contest.
However, as we're not a total dictatorship, the nice men in smart uniforms with
guns at the doorways notwithstanding, we're asking you the membership your
opinion. What is your opinion of the contests, and the idea of themeless
contests in particular?
We'll announce the final decision sometime in mid_June.
Cheers,
Paul Watson and Ms Tiger to You, co-owners
I personally like the idea.
