I just bought a Cybook from sanbbq11 on eBay. I don't know him
personally and I was very hesitant to buy from him because he hadn't
sold anything when I first saw his listing, but after he sold one
unit and I emailed him a few times, I took a chance and got my Cybook
from him about a week ago, receiveing it two days after he mailed it.
I'm phlash2031 on eBay and you can see my feedback under his name.
I'm not vouching for him because, as I mentioned, I don't know him,
but I did receive the Cybook and he'll give you his regular email
address and offered his telephone number.

After I got my Cybook, a very nice member helped me set up my
wireless card that I had bought separately on eBay. Now I want to
find more skins for Ubook or learn to make my own because I haven't
found the perfect one, yet. I've looked on www.gowerpoint.com so if
anyone has any suggestions other than there, please let me know.
Also, I tried to install v.9 on ubook, but it wouldn't install. I
emailed gowerpoint, but havne't received a response.

Suzy

Subject: hello, I'm new here and starting off with problems :) Sorry.

and I hate for it to be my first post but I'm having some trouble (and
would love the drivers for the ambicom I saw someone offer when I was
skimming the previous messages) but I'm wondering about syncing, which
it's currently not doing....

Heres the message I sent bookeen (since it's full of as many details
as I could imagine they might possibly need) if anyone here has any ideas.

I bought my cybook last fall, but looking at your site it appears to
be 1st generation. It's having some errors and I'm not sure where to
go from here. Last fall my primary need for it was to read the
hundreds of pages (html, pdf, etc) that my classes required each week
and have them to take with me. I tried to hook it to my computer with
the usb but since it made my usb mouse stop working I found it easier
just to use the compactflash memory card to access my classwork on it.

Now what I really need are organizational abilities, so I want to use
a calendar on it -- this means I need to sync it up to my laptop, so
it can install one. I got the ambicom wifi card with it, but my cybook
isn't even noticing that when it's in, so I think it may not be
working, so I am going back to trying the usb cord. When I connect it,
the cybook sees it and shows it as connected, when I disconnect it, it
is recognizing that too. My computer (running xp home) makes it's
bleepy connection/disconnect sound, but doesn't really connect. The
error is: Cannot verify the version of ActiveSync on your device. A
program such as a firewall may be blocking a port ActiveSync uses to
connect to the device or you may need to upgrade to a more recent
version of ActiveSync on the pc.

I've checked my firewall and it is allowing the exceptions of
ActiveSync. I just downloaded the most recent version of ActiveSync
from Microsoft -- though I haven't rebooted since I did that, it
didn't ask me to, but I guess I'll try that next. I checked the
connection setting both on the pc and the cybook and both are
allowing/using usb connections. I do not currently have Outlook
installed, but that shouldn't be necessary for connecting, just for
organizing afterwards.

Now I can take it in and try connecting it to my husbands desktop
computer, but that would only work for fixing any problems on the
cybook. I do not want half my work on my computer and half on his, so
if at all possible, I'd like to try fixing it on mine, but I'm not
sure what to try next. I don't know if the problem is the cord, the
cybook, my gateway laptop, windows ce, windows xp, and I cannot afford
$40 shipping to try each thing in getting all the new little parts
shipped to me. The version of Windows CE on the cybook is 3.0 (build
161) if that helps.

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks,
Marilou

Hello folks,
Im looking for a PCMCIA-to-CompactFlash adapter for my Cybook.
Can anybody tell me, which adapter comes with Cybook (manufacturer, type)?
Or maybe I can use any PCMCIA-to-CF adapter?

Thanks in advance,
Waldi

You can use any one. It's just a mechanical adaptor; there are no
"electronics" in them.

I found some skins for ubook on www.gowerpoint.com but they aren't exactly
what I want. Are there other sites with ubook skins? Does anyone have any
info on making or modifying skins? I like to put page turn controls on the left
and right sides so I can use either hand to change pages.

The power supply is ok as is the battery. There is no power at all when
turned on. Tried soft and hard reset. no luck. Also tried the battery
removal for an hour or so with no luck. Worse tried emailing Paris for
instructions but no answer. I know cybook is no longer produced and
maybe they are working on a Sony ereader type device. Then again maybe
they are out of business. Any ideas??????????????//

this was a response I got when I got mine last semester. I hadn't had
your issue, but it was when the hard reboot was not doing anything.
Maybe it will help.
--------------

To correct the issue, you can simply start a hard reset of the device as
described on page 40 of the manual.

If you do not manage to perform a hard reset this way, you can try the
following procedure to make sure your Cybook restarts with a fresh system:

1) Unplug the Cybook from AC power.

2) Open the back cover, open the battery compartment and unplug the main
battery (pull the two wires below the white connector slightly
downwards). Close the battery compartment (leave the battery inside
unplugged or put the battery aside temporarily).

3) Wait for 30 minutes or longer with the Cybook out of any power to
make sure the internal battery is fully discharged (an internal hidden
battery keeps the memory refreshed while changing the main battery).

4) Plug back the Cybook on AC power. The Cybook processes a hard reset.
You should see the “Cybook” and “Bookeen” logos during the hard reset
process, as well as a progress bar indicating system installation
progress. If nothing happens, remove the power and go back to step 3.

5) Upon the “Welcome” screen, tap “No” to the “Do you wish to keep the
previous administration settings?”, check the desired programs and validate.

6) When you see the Windows CE desktop, the system is fully back on, you
can re-plug the main battery.

No, you can't! In order for any software to be compiled, you need to
have (1) Win CE OS, (2). Cybook SDK. You got to have Cybook SDK
compatible with the Win CE. If you don't have that one, Cybook SDK
wouldn't work; hence your programs wouldn't work.

The problem is solved. It was a battery problem. I have 2 batteries
and the one I was using has one or more bad cells.

Thanks to all for the replies. I got the last Cybook update they put out. Did this have the lastest Windows CE version on it, or it is capatible with a later version than the one that it shipped with (I got my Cybook soon after they were put out)?

Which leads me to ask has anyone bought an e-ink book as of yet? Oh btw... MY
CYBOOK IS
SO SLOOOOOWWWWW WITH COLOR PDFs! My GEB 1250 rips thru 3 pages in the time it
takes
for 1 on the Cybook to load. Can memory be added to it to speed it up? Just
curious

What software do I need to read .pdf documents on the Cybook? And its
been so long since I have connected it to my computer that I have
forgotten what software I need - I have connected it but it's not
recognized. Can someone jump start me on this?

Thanks -

Dawn,

Do you have the pdf reader installed on your Cybook? If not, there is
a copy of the application in our files section of the group.

I have a cybook, but I don't think it's a ten inch screen.

Just so we don't have to check every ebook shoppe online, was wondering if it
might be a
good idea to start sharing and alert everyone of new releases that might be
available
where you buy ebooks (or download). I myself am looking (forward to?) these in
ebook
form:

The Children of Hurin
- JRR Tolkien

Breakaway: A Cassandra Kresnov Novel
Crossover: A Cassandra Kresnov Novel
Killswitch: A Cassandra Kresnov Novel
by Joel Shepherd (Author)

Accelerando
Glasshouse
by Charles Stross (Author)

Spook Country
by William Gibson (Author)

Thirteen
by Richard K. Morgan (Author)

Keeping It Real (Quantum Gravity, Book 1)
by Justina Robson (Author)

Visionary in Residence: Stories
by Bruce Sterling (Author)

The Looking Glass Wars
by Frank Beddor (Author)

Let us know what you're reading! Thanks!

Hello,
I installed the previously released update on my cybook, but it seems
to have caused a power supply problem. The device keeps rebooting
every time or going black. Does there exist a patch to reinstall the
original version back to the cybook? This worked justed fine for me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

William.

I suggest that you email Bookeen's Support and ask for the download.  They are really great in answering emails.  In the mean while I will look in my files and see if I have it.  I doubt it though. Sorry for the large font.  I just had Lasik and everything is a bit blurry.
