Do you remember how to pass balls?
If I can figure out how to fill and transport (and if people help
clean up the carcasses), perhaps Friday would be a good time for
water balloon passing or endurance.

See you Friday!

Hello All Damentos,
Robert here. On June 26th I started my own business. The name of the company
is Search Engine Wizard. I specialize in bringing targeted traffic to web sites
by achieving high rankings across the search engines on popular phrases related
to client businesses. If anyone out there knows of a company with a web site
that would like to promote it, please feel free to refer them to my site or give
them my e-mail address (robert@...).

One other note, if anyone would like a 6" piece of PVC pipe to make a rola bola,
please let me know. I made my own bola, but the PVC pipe was originally 13 feet
long and I have a little extra :)

Hello Damentos,
I am writing to request help this coming Saturday with a juggling workshop at
6:00 pm. Drinks will be provided. It will be at the married student housing
near UC Davis known as Orchard Park. I am in greater need of help due to
spraining my right thumb while playing basketball. I feel backwards when
someone running towards me stepped on my foot and most of my weight was on my
right hand and thumb when I fell. Needless to say a one handed juggler won't
put on as good a program as a two handed one. I expect it would last two hours.
Juggling for a group followed by instruction. It will be informal and most
people around Orchard Park have seen me juggle. Please RSVP and I will e-mail
directions. I will still be there on Tuesday and Friday, though I will be
handicapped.

Good news! We will once again be at Trinity Cathedral during the
dark/wintry months on Fridays 6-9pm starting September 28, 2001
through April 26, 2002 except for the third Fridays of the month
(when the labyrinth is set up in the Great Hall) and on November 9,
2001 (due to a scheduling conflict). For those who have never been,
Trinity Cathedral is on Capitol between 26th St & 27th St in
Sacramento. The Great Hall is about half a basketball court with
large ceilings.

Other dates to remember and participate:
Sept 22 (23?), 2001 - A Festival of Science in the Arts, Explorit,
Davis, CA. Damentos teaching juggling workshops.

Sept 28-30, 2001 - Portland Juggling Festival, Reed College Sports
Center, Portland, Oregon. http://www.portlandjugglers.com/Festhome.htm

Oct. 5-8, 2001 - Lodi Juggling Festival Lodi, CA
http://www.bullwhip.org/lodi/ "Free show tickets are available for
volunteers who lead workshops, work at the Saturday dinner, or
perform at the zoo." Let me know if you need help with your spandex
or glittery vest costume.
"The Construction Zone will be back - continuous beginner and
intermediate workshops on a drop-in basis, organized by the Damento
Jugglers." That's us.

While we're on the topic, anyone have any suggestions for where to meet
Tuesdays once central park is no longer an option? I beat my head
bloody against that wall last winter and never did find a good place,
and I'd like to avoid that fate again.

We had a new member come last night (Duckie's girlfriend... ack! Can't
remember her name) who's a beginning master's student in the art
department. Maybe she can get us access to some kind of practice space,
although we still have the UCD ("U Cannot Drive!") parking problem to
deal with.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking of asking at local nursing homes if they
have an appropriate commons room we could meet in, in exchange for
lessons or a performance at some point. Is that too nutty or worth
pursuing?

Somebody at one of the festivals mixed liquid soap with their fuel and it
lasted AGES! I don't know the amounts or safety of that. All I can say is
that it burned, and burned, and burned. It was amazing!

Kerosene has been suggested. Smellier than coleman gas, but burns more
evenly.

Gee, you want to cherry-pick? :)

Truth is, attendance varies for both. Right now, though, Friday nights
have a home when it gets dark, and Tuesday nights are still looking.

Coleman fuel burns clean, but quick and hot.

Kerosene burns much cooler, but is smoky and smelly.

Lamp oil (Paraffin) burns cool, and doesn't smell very badly. My
favorite.

I've never timed it, but coleman burns pretty quickly so I'd expect
paraffin to last longer. It's just lamp oil, and I've gotten it at
Long's.

The Circus Is In Town! The "Greatest Show On Earth" is at Arco Arena
through Sunday... we'll be at tonight's show, which starts at 7:30, but
we're told the *real* show is for an hour and a half beforehand, where
you can meet the animals and performers up close during their exercise and
warmup times. Larry Clark, one of the members of the Ringling Bros./Barnum
& Bailey Red Unit's Clown Alley, visited us on Tuesday (thanks for
bringing him, Matt!) and encouraged us to come and see the show. The
Hungarian juggler, Fudi, has been training the Red Unit's clowns for years
(he was honored at the last IJA fest in Madison).... he doesn't perform
anymore, but there's a chance that Larry, Fudi and some other performers
will be up to joining some local jugglers for dinner after the show
tonight. Catch us at the show or give me a jingle on the cell phone
(530-902-0096) if you want to join us!
