culture.
We really hope to see you there! And PLEASE Circulate the FLYER! THANK YOU!

What is KWANZAA?
KWANZAA is
a unique African Diasporic celebration with a focus on the traditional
African values of family, community responsibility, commerce, and
self-improvement. KWANZAA is neither political, nor religious, and
despite some misconceptions, is not a substitute for Christmas. It is
simply a time of reaffirming people of the African Diaspora, their
ancestors and culture. Kwanzaa, which means "first fruits of the
harvest" in the African language Kiswahili, has gained tremendous
acceptance. Kwanzaa was founded in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga.
Kwanzaa consists of seven Kwanzaa Principles (Nguzo Saba) and should be put into practice every day, and not just celebrated for 7 days and then forgotten about:
The Nguzo Saba (The Seven Principles)
Day 1 (December 26th) Umoja (oo-MO-jah): Unity
Day 2 (December 27th) Kujichagulia (koo-GEE-chah-GOO-lee-AH): Self-Determination
Day 3 (December 28th) Ujima (oo-JEE-mah): Collective Work and Responsibility
Day 4 (December 29th) Ujamaa (oo-JAH-mah-AH): Cooperative Economics
Day 5 (December 30th) Nia (nee-AH): Purpose
Day 6 (December 31st) Kuumba (koo-OOM-bah): Creativity

groups/organizations that serve the interest of Black heterosexual, White gay,
and/or Black gay males. I am seeking individuals to participate in an online
research study. If possible, please post this recruitment email to your
respective listserv.

the University of Wisconsin – Madison conducting research under the supervision
of Dr. Bruce Wampold. You are invited to participate in a research study
investigating the impact of experiences with race/ethnicity and sexual orientation
based violence on mental health. I am seeking Black heterosexual males, White gay males, and Black
gay males between the ages of 18
and 40 to participate in an online survey. The survey will take
approximately 30 minutes to complete.
If you meet the above requirements and are interested in participating
in the study, please follow the link below.
Thanks to the runaway success of the iPhone, AT&T has the largest wireless network in the country—and the lousiest. Fed-up subscribers, who pay the telco about $30 a month just for data (and another $40 or so for voice), are planning an assault this Friday called Operation Chokehold.
The idea is to cripple AT&T’s network in order to draw attention to its weakness. To do so, participating iPhone users will run data-heavy applications over AT&T’s 3G network on Friday from noon to 1 p.m. Pacific time.
The plan was apparently launched by the Secret Diary of Steve Jobs, a popular blog that satirically impersonates the Apple CEO, but Operation Chokehold has since gained steam with notices popping up on other tech blogs.
It shouldn’t take much to buckle AT&T’s network—it has trouble functioning under normal conditions. Whether the company will do anything in response is another matter. Verizon has blanketed the country in ads mocking its chief rival’s network—ads that wouldn’t be so effective if they didn’t ring true. AT&T tried to sue, but gave up in the end.
The company promised to improve its network in New York and San Francisco—two known problem areas—but don’t hold out hope. AT&T appears as if it is looking for ways to discourage users from using its product—the network—or at least charging them more, according to wireless chief Ralph de la Vega. —PZS

FIRSTpriority,
activist/motivation speaker/ author Kevin Powell with be holding his
9th Annual Holiday Party and Clothing Drive this Friday, December 11th,
2009. After I attend BMX this Friday evening, I will be stopping by the
party drive to drop off some clothes. All clothing will be donated to Safe Horizon Streetwork Project to help homeless young people in New York City. Click the link to find out the venue and time. http://nubianknightsnetwork.blogspot.com/2009/11/kevin-powells-9th-annual-holiday-party.html
SECONDpriority, This Saturday will be the LAST PERFORMANCE OF No Place To Call Home
which is a poignant piece about 5 Black kids living in a group home in
NYC. The venue is at the Paul Robeson Theatre (ironically I never heard
of them before this showcase! I know, shame on me, right). I went in
the nasty rain and sleet last Saturday performance and really liked it.
PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT IF YOU CAN. I reallythink it is worth the
$20.00 - Tickets are available at the theater only! You can arrive
between a half-hour and hour to purcahse your tickets. The Paul Robeson
Theatre is in Fort Greene, Brooklyn (downtown). Click the link for more
info. http://nubianknightsnetwork.blogspot.com/2009/12/no-place-to-call-home-theater-play-paul.html
2 years ago I went to an SGL and their allies showcase event called Triple "S" (Safe Sex Shoot) Rated Fashion-Concert Show [11-7-2007]
and got to shoot some pics of some great underground artists. Likwuid
Stylez (of the duo Rebel Starr) was one of the artists. She did an
recent interview and talked about the hip-hop industry and the misogyny
among peers and a multitude of other stuff. Just sharing: http://nubianknightsnetwork.blogspot.com/2009/12/im-artist-first-reflections-on-identity.html
Maccubbin said the store will begin a holiday sale as early as this weekend for many of its books and other products, such as gifts items. He said a “huge liquidation sale” will begin immediately after Christmas, with the store expected to close in early January.
The Worldwide March for Peace and Non-Violence
has now passed its 65th day since its start. It will be visiting 60 countries on every
continent. It started in New Zealand on October 2, 2009 and will end on January
2, 2010 in Puntas de Vacas Aconcagua, Argentina.
This movement is asking for the end of war, nuclear arms,
and the elimination of EVERY KIND of violence. (Including sexual orientation
and gender identification).
You may take part in it and support or join it
electronically by visiting their website: http://www.theworldmarch.org/
which is also in several other languages.
This is an opportunity for us to have a presence in
subjects that not only include us, but that make up a part of worldwide social
realities.

// CHRISTMAS AT THE COUNTRY CLUB | 6pm | $15 Sunday, December 13, 20009
ZOOM is having our first holiday FUN-raiser, and of course it's at one of THE absolute coolest venues DC has to offer. The H St. Country Club has boasting rights as the only place in the DC-area where you can play a nine-hole mini-golf course indoors. Equip with a replica of the Washington Monument this course allows you to putt pass local favorites like Ben's Chilli Bowl and zig zag around a huge zombie Abe Lincoln.
Based in DC Martha's Table's mission is to help at-risk children, youth, families and individuals in our community improve their lives by providing educational programs, food, clothing, and enrichment opportunities.
We will also have a Giving Box, this is optional but you will be welcome to donate items that include toys, canned goods and diapers.. Take a look at their Wish List to get an idea of where the most need is.
Grab your mittens because ZOOM Excursions is joining up with DC Ice Breakers and several other area social groups for an evening of ice skating followed by a social hour. This event will be held at the Capitals Iceplex in Arlington (less than 10 min. from DC). Note there is a nominal fee charged to skate paid per individual skater.
We are open to working with groups, organizations and individuals to develop new and out of the ordinary happenings for the lesbian community. If you long for innovation and "out of the box" creativity in group event planning...join us!
Thought the group might find this interesting....
Lambda Rising Bookstore is pleased to announce a special appearance of Author
and Porn Star, Aiden Shaw, Thursday December 3rd at 7:30pm. Aiden will be here
to answer questions, sign books, and take pictures with adoring fans.
Time: Thursday, December 3, 2009 7:30 p.m.
Location: Lambda Rising Bookstore
1625 Connecticut Ave, NW
Washington, DC 20009
Phone: 202-462-6969
About the Book:
Sordid Truths chronicles Aiden Shaw's asent from being just another broke and
very horny college boy, who dabbled with the idea that he chould sell his young
body for hard cash, to becoming the internationally renowned adult film idol.
After finishing just one year of his BA degree Shaw was twenty-one and easily
lured away from study by the lusty mix of sex and money in London. Within a
short time on the scene, he gained infamy and was something of a celebrity
wihtin his field. Peddling his flesh took him to the steamy underbelly of the
U.K.'s decadent capital city in the late 80's. Here he rubbed shoulders and
other body parts with wealthy, weird, and wonderful eccentrics, famous- and
famously closteded-Euro trash personalities and the celebrated elite.
However, working as a prostitute turned minor league once gay porn sensation Chi
Chi La Rue took polariods of Shaw naked and aroused and launched his career. His
rise to stardom has been documented by the adult industry's leading studios in
more than fifty films that have won him numerous awards and even more notoriety
as the complex and multi-talented character that he's become known by many.
About the Author:
Aiden Shaw is the author of the bestselling memoir My Undoing: Love in the Thick
of Sex, Drugs, Pornogrpahy, and Prostitution, which follows chronologically the
events of Sordid Truths. Shaw is also the author of three novels, Brutal,
Wasted, and Boundaries, as well as a volume of poetry, If Language at the Same
Time Shapes and Distorts Our Ideas and Emotions, How Do We Communicate Love?
These non-ticketed events are free and open to the public. Please contact Linsey
Pecikonis at 202-462-6969 for any more information or links to the Author Page,
advertisements, images, or Facebook Event information. For more upcoming
events, please visit Lambda Rising's website.
