Great job and good luck on the Java stuff...
there aren't enough model viewers
out there in Net-Net-land. =)

Good question. :-)

I've acutally put a little thought into that. NANOWRIMO is a scheduled event in November. So, that puts the brakes on wild abandon. http://www.nanowrim o.org/

Also, the Java cert books are brutal. I expect that to take several months.

Heh, I've been working on my list as well. Last year, I blew through my list in
a month. So, I've decided to take things up a notch or two. (or three or

1. Actually print out a few of the 3d models that I've uploaded to Shapeways.

3. Upload 'printable' version of those models to Shapeways.

Ok... I don't mean to jump the gun into 2010 already,
but here's my NYs resolution for DoGA:

Clean House...  I've got almost 3, yep, THREE boxes
full of old, yep, RETIRED doga backup CDs I haven't used
since dinosaurs last updated DoGA.

They're mostly old models I'd assembled from parts,
and objects made from old Anim8or programs, textures,
backgrounds, textures, backgrounds, parts, and more
textures, parts, textures, and more backgrounds...
...I've enjoyed my share of packratting and hoarding new
stuff for my doga folders; but now it's time I let all that
old useless stuff go.  I can't possibly take all them backup
CDs with me through Life. By now I've learned to fuse
meshes and objects together via joining faces and verts
in Metasequoia, that I don'y need to keep old model
prototypes any longer than necessary.
My backgrounds look better than ever, so I'll just
dump my older cheezy bkgs.  The same for textures.

And, besides, I'll be relocating to Puerto Rico soon
(this time it's for sure) and them old CDs are just dead
weight too expensive to ship via UPS or Postal.
I wanna get rid of them all before spring 2010
and just keep my new backups on 2 or 3 spare HDDs.

Once I've trashed all of my old doga stuff I'll feel much
better with more room for my newer protos and backups.
And then I'll get rid of these as well in the next couple
years for even newer stuff.

Maybe I should just sell my junk CDs as "beer coasters"
or Shoot "skeeters" on ebay! LOL!

I wound up dling and installing the newest DOGA version. After turning off all
the crap I didn't want cluttering up my mesh screens, I got to work and am very
pleased with the new version so far. No "unexpected error" messages at all.
Now I just have to figure out how to get images for some of my downloaded parts
to appear in the sample menu so I don't have to play "guess the part" when I add
from files... :)

By the way, is it just me or does the new version render a little more high
quality than the older one?

On the other hand, there hasn't been much activity

Nice to read refreshers now and then, I always forget them.

If I recall correctly, the first file with all the binaries is the one you want. All the rest are extra data files that should already be on your hard drive if you have installed them once.

There's a setting in the Display menu which
gives you the option to shut that damn blinking off. =)
But, of course, yeah, I find it distracting...
...might as well put on a "Saturday Night Fever"
soundtrack, and hang a mirrorball, to go with
that blinking selected part.

The biggest thing about the latest version for me is the blinking yellow of selected parts. You might find this annoying or very convenient. :-)

The newer version has certain new features that took me
quite some time getting used to, especially the lights settings
in Motion Editor.  Other miscellaneous tasks by DoGa
are done more efficiently in the new version; and you won't
have to click "End" twice (1st End to shut the program down,
2nd End to close it's "bye-bye" ad banner applet).
But such things are just matters of one's personal
preference and tolerance.
I still use the old version which I've been using since '04,
since I can already breeze through it on the fly. ;)

Now, as far as "issues...program must shut down..."
A fresh re-install should fix things back in place.
Make sure you backup your current work. Also,
backup any special settings or tweaks you may have
done to your DoGA program.

I'm not too tech-savy about DLLs; I assume they often
get lost or corrupted during migration to another pc--
so a fresh re-install should place them back into
folders and system folders where they belong.

One other thing: when migrating to another pc...
if your work was all previously done in C drive,
and you install DoGA to a different drive (like "D",
or some other drive-letter designation) in your new pc,
you'll have to reassociate your work to point to
the new folder directory locations
(attributes, parts, and textures) in the new drive
in your new pc.
(This gets tedious if you're a user who likes to manually
create/edit your genie.atr files and DoGA's ini files.
I spend DAYS reassociating my work and tweaks
whenever I reinstall DoGA. LOL)

Ok, should I get the older version or the most recent. I hear there are some issues with the most recent one such that some people don't like it...

If I recall correctly, the first file with all the binaries is the one you want.
All the rest are extra data files that should already be on your hard drive if
you have installed them once.

The biggest thing about the latest version for me is the blinking yellow of
selected parts. You might find this annoying or very convenient. :-)

Well, a re-install might fix the missing resource issue. It might re-register
DLLs whose UIDs have changed during the move.

My formerly well-behaved DOGA program has started throwing the "unexpected
problem and must close" error message. It started doing that right after I had
the drive it was on put into my new tower. Both are/were running Windows XP
Home.

Will a fresh install of DOGA fix this or is there an ongoing issue developing
here?

Thanks, I'll try this.  I've tried a similar program like this
a long time ago and almost went bald tryin to learn it. <LOL>
Perhaps this time I'll be a little more patient.
This will help me learn to map human faces and skins
just right on my human DoGA model's bodies.  Thanks! =)

For those that are industrious, here is how you can bring those free models into DoGA.

1. Download UVMapper Classic, it's a freebie.
http://www.uvmapper .com/downloads. html
2. Exact the PP2 files (and optionally the png files since they can be used as thumbnail images in a DoGA library.)
3. Open each of the PP2 files and save them as wavefront objects.
4. I used Milkshape to convert those objects to Lightwave objects.*
5. Load the LWO files into Metasequoia (increase scalling 2 digits) and save them as SUF files.
6. Open each of the SUF files with L3's ObjConv program. Select auto mapping, scale 600%, under layer/color check mapping, in the preview position the model for best looks and then click the convert to part file button. The resulting file worked just fine in L3.

Enjoy. By the way, expect large polygon counts, but that's normal for Poser files.

* I tried using Meshlab to convert the files to other formats, but Meta did not like them.

Hey there, merry christmas and happy new years to all! =)

Thanks for these hair sets, I'll try them and play with them
for my MZ characters.
At first, I thought these were just images... I then realized
them images have the official .rar files, if I click on the small
"Download" icon link located to the left side of the images.
Cool Beings! =)
