Welcome to the group!

my understanding is that a hearth pad is an applied
protective "cover" type thing to stop kids hurting themselves when
playing near the fireplace and usually made of flexible, padded
material to cushion impact. Timber and tile are both hard surfaces so
I am obviously wrong in my interpretation, so could you elaborate a
little?

thanks
