Re: [Furniture Making] Wood for a Bed

perhaps think of a style first - then the type of timber to use will become
clearer

maybe have a look at www.thomasmoser.com and www.stickley.com for inspiration

I imagine you're in the USA, so there are plenty of wonderful timbers to choose
from .....quartersawn Oak is stunning, as are Cherry and Maple, but I believe
these can be pricey - Douglas Fir and Pine/Spruce are cheaper I believe though
contain "figure" that you may or may not like ......

as I said - choose a particular design/style and let folks here know ..... it
will be easier to select an appropriate timber for your job then. And don't
forget BED JOINERS or BED RAIL JOINERS for your project....... saves a world of
grief@

have fun - beds are great projects!

Subject: [Furniture Making] Wood for a Bed

Hi, I am new to the group. I am getting married in about four
months, and I plan on making our bed. I need some help with choosing
the wood, my wife to be doent care what kind I use. I dont have a
preference eather. I would like to keep the cost down and not go
with the most expencive wood but I also dont want the bed to be
falling apart. I dont know if this matters any but the finish on the
bed will be a dark brown stan.
Thanks for the help
Kris
