I would suggest that you do not spoil good wood with stain. I do not
know where you are located but if in the U.S. or Canada I would suggest
cherry or walnut. The cherry will give you the dark color you wish
after it has had a chance to age if you are in a hurry put it in the
sun. The walnut will be darker to start but will get lighter with
time.
