Market for retro styled furniture?   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #707 of 3320 |

I'm planning to start building a few retro styled pieces, this
spring or summer, and am wondering if the market's big enough to
justify it as an ongoing hobby, or if I should limit myself to a few
select pieces, just to see how I do in my own interpretation of the
retro styles? On my to do list are a boomerange coffee table, an
atomic-V coffee table and 2 step (2-tiered) end tables.

With the boomerange and atomic-V coffee tables, I'm figuring that I
can get 2 of each, from 1 sheet of 4'x8' 3/4" furniture grade
plywood. As to the 2-tiered step end tables, I'm actually going to
have to crunch numbers, and plan out the dimensions, in an attempt
to minimize the amount of wasted wood generated. Depending on the
dimensions of the scrap wood that's generated, it's possible that I
could use it in future designs.

Also, I'm planning that every table I build will be unique, with no
two tables, or table sets, being alike.

Matt
