Not a very active group. But I believe it is new, so this will take some
time.

Just as with everything in life, the sources of design come from practice. A
good book on the subject of furniture design 101 is Practical Design,
Solutions and Strategies. A good entry level method and design book.
Personally, I have a architecture degree and I enjoy building custom
furniture in my one man shop in addition to the remodeling projects. With
every new piece I learn something new. But a good knowledge of materials and
methods are a pre-requisite for good design. The gallery of Fine Woodworking
magazine is a nice source for inspiration.
