I received news that Wolfdancer, the resort course at Lost Pines and the scene
of our Fall 2008 tournament, has discontinued their Forecaddie program.

On the positive side, that lowers the cost considerably for playing this
challenging course. On the negative side it could mean higher scores and a few
more lost balls for those who haven't played it several times.

According to course management they are equipping all carts with
state-of-the-art GPS systems, so at least we'll have accurate yardage readings.
Won't do much for lost balls, however.

Note that we're only 4.5 months away from our Spring tournament. Nothing has
been planned yet, but it's not to soon to start thinking about it.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving everyone.

Hey Everyone - Pat Kennar is going to get a quick Ultimate training session
going Nov 8th after services (1:30'ish) at Gateway, then we'll have play some
pick-up games.

For more info, Pat's contact info is: pat.kannar@....

For the general Gateway Sports updates, we're going to be communicating more
through the 'Gateway Sports and Rec' Facebook page vs. the YahooGroups. Just do
a quick search and you'll be able to find it (Gateway Sports and Rec).

Regarding Golf updates, we'll continue to use this Group.

The Samaritan Center (counseling and pastoral care)is holding their annual
charity golf tournament on October 5 at Twin Creeks country club.

Ministers golf free!! Church teams are encouraged, but individuals welcome.

Golf, prizes, snacks and awards dinner all included for $200 per person.

More info available at www.samaritan-center.org . If you're interested in
forming a Gateway team, email me directly.

You might ask if Gateway is having a tournament this fall, as in the past.
Regrettably, the answer appears to be no. My last attempt to spark some interest
was met with indifference. So, we'll set our sights on Spring, but the Samaritan
Center event provides an opportunity to play a great course and support a good
cause.

I encourage all of you who are interested in sports at Gateway, including golf, to become a fan of the new Gateway Sports page on Facebook. This will be a central place to keep in touch and share thoughts and activities about sports.

If you already have a page on Facebook, consider adding this to your favorites list. If you're not on Facebook joining is easy.

Hey Chuck- what do you think about doing the fundraiser for a sand volleyball

Yes, the temp is still 100 degrees. Yes, it is still August. But calendars don't
lie. October will be here before we know it, and that means it's time to start
planning our Fall charity event.

I'd like to see the next tournament scheduled for late October, before daylight
savings ends and on a day when UT doesn't have a home game.

Let the ideas and volunteerism flow. All the folks who want to work on the
planning committee should contact me.

Cheers,

Gateway Golf members,

Today an inappropriate message with subject line "Clinton is . . . Satan" was
posted to our group. As the moderator for the group I immediately removed the

Fortunately, our Group experiences very few episodes like this. I can only

The competition was keen. The flight of the ball erratic. The Texas wind was
fickle. The live oaks along the fairway were, well, lively.

But at the end of the day one group was to overcome the elements and their own
skill level to emerge victorious.

I am pleased to say the Martinez-Gray-Besondy team placed first.
Not to be outdone, Greg Hultman won the prize for closest to pin.

The real winners of course are the hundreds of people that depend on the Gateway
Food Pantry every month.

Our humble tournament will contribute $357 to the food pantry.

A special thanks to Tom Ritter and Ray James who planned the tournament this
year.

Talk is already underway for a Fall tournament in the September / October time
frame. Watch your email for announcement.

If you have hosted an exchange student in the past, or want to consider doing so here is an opportunity to give a kid a home for the next school year, and introduce him / her to Texas golf, too. (I'm told that CCI also has a few French students looking for US homes just for the summer).

CCI is a nonprofit student exchange organization with goals of promoting cultural understanding, academic development and world peace through international exchange. CCI has golf students coming to the Austin area wanting experience life and school here in the US for a year as an exchange student.  They are High School students that have their own insurance and spending money, they just need a family to care for them (give them a bed and meals and loving guidance/care) while they are here.  If you would like more information, contact Jayne Allen at 512-215-9720.

Listed below are some of the students which love to play golf and would be very happy to live in a family with similar interests - just click on the link to see their bio and then their picture to see a letter they have
written:
