It would be nice to say that is an isolated incident, but it is not.
Twenty of 21 cities surveyed for a new report from U.S. Conference of
Mayors reported an increase in requests for food, and 59 percent of
those requests came from families. In addition, 16 of 25 cities
reported a significant increase in homeless families, with San
Francisco among the leaders.

Acceptance
==========
I believe life is about acceptance.
We can sit back and moan
About the raw deal life has given us
Or we can accept the cards
We have been dealt
And make the most of them.
So many times people
Have asked me how I cope,
And truthfully I have days
When I wonder myself
Amongst the chaos and confusion
That life in our household involves.
I have three children.
One is autistic; he is beautiful, smart,
And intuitive in a way that is
Unique, frustrating,
Difficult to understand and I love him.
Another child is undergoing testing
For a rare endocrine disorder
Which may mean that he will be
Steroid-dependent to stay alive.
It has been a long time since I have been able to
See him glowing with the health and vitality
That we took for granted six months ago.
I could reject the cards
That God has given me but to do that
Would be to deny myself
The part of me that I am most proud of,
My children.
Â
They may have problems that others see
As too big or too difficult,
But they are mine.
I see their beauty and their love
Not just for their family
But the greater world around them.
The way they look at the world,
The beauty they see and
The gifts that they bring to my life daily
Make it very easy to accept the cards dealt to me.
For anyone out there
Who is going through difficulty and
Having trouble seeing the beauty
That is there in all our lives,
Please have hope and find some time
Even if for just a few minutes to
Count the multitude of blessings
That God has given us in so many ways.
The issues that are concerning
You may not go away;
But by accepting them into your life
As a part of it and remembering
The multitude of blessings
We receive in other ways
Helps you to grow stronger.
It is so much easier
To accept the blessings
But strength and peace
Comes from accepting
Both the blessings and
The challenges we are given.

To All:
I have been blessed to still have my mother and father in my life. I can't even
begin to imagine what you may feel losing someone so close. I sent this poem to
a friend who lost her son two years again but still grieve over losing him. She
said it gave her comfort and I hope it will give you if only a little, comfort
as well.
Be Blessed,
Letter From Heaven
Please don’t feel bad,
It was just my time to go.
I see you are still feeling sad,
And the tears just seem to flow.
We all
come to earth for our lifetime,
And for some it’s not many years
I don’t want you to keep crying
You are shedding so many tears.
I
haven’t really left you
Even though it may seem so.
I have just gone to my heavenly home,
And I’m closer to you than you know.
Just
believe that when you say my name
I’m standing next to you,
I know you long to see me,
But there’s nothing I can do.
But
I’ll still send you messages
And hope you understand,
That when your time comes to “cross over,”
I’ll be there to take your hand.

Missing Family Members This Year
December 7, 2008
Tonight I went to a friend’s house to play Star Wars Monopoly and I had a
good time beating him badly at his own game. I had 10 monopolies to his 1 and
it took me 4 hours to do it. I also had fun watching the Harry Potter movie
marathon on ABC Family Channel too.
After the end of a long evening I went home with my mother on my mind. It has
been almost seven years since her death, but I still miss her. My birthday is
coming up on the 24th of this month and she would always fix my favorite cake
which is yellow cake with fudge icing. I remember the times when I was growing
up our family would get together to celebrate Christmas. Even though my mom
played the Santa game with us we still knew that Christ was the reason for the
season and our family would pray for God’s blessing for others and our family
throughout the year. My mom and my grandmother would prepare a feast. The
food was always great.
One problem I had being a Christmas Eve baby I would get from my friends is
this is your Christmas and birthday present. As my Automotive Teacher would
say, “Oh oh; you were robed by Santa Clause.
Yes I will admit it, I am a mama’s boy and I was mothered both by my mom and
grandmother. I lived with my family for a few years after my graduation from
high school. My grandma would cook enough food for dinner and my lunch for the
next day at work. Everyone at work would get jealous saying “Dave; you eat
better than us.” All jokes aside my grandmother knew how to cook!
I hope and pray that everyone will have a Merry Christmas and a happy New
Year. I know a lot of people are lonely and get depressed this time of the
year and my prayers got out to you.
Take care,
Dave
