Probably Italian, probably 1960s. I doubt it would be possible to put a
specific factory name to it.

Hi everyone, just joining up so I thought I would say hello. My name is
Mitzi, I'm 30 years old and I live in Columbus, Ohio. I am kinda new to
the antique glass thing, so I thought this might be a good place to
learn! So far I have the most interest in Corelle, Pyrex, Fire King,
and Hazel Atlas, but I am interested in learning more about all the
types of Depression Glass as well. I looked through your photo gallery -
very cool stuff! I'm appropriately jealous. ;)

Anyway looking foward to being part of the group. Thanks!

hello everyone, I have an item that I have yet to find out any info on.
This past summer I went to a yard sale and purchased this thermos. I
dont have a picture of it but I will describe it. The thermos inside
and the stopper are made of glass, the outside is part grey metal and
silver. It stands about 12-14 inches. It could almost pass as a
decanter but I think the thermos disqulifies it. I do go to flea
markets often, but havent seen anything like this. I have also looked
on ebay, but no luck. There is a patent number and a date of March
1910. but thats the U S patten date. I dont want to get rid of it I
just want to find out about it and its possible value. If you know
anything or someone who could helo let me know. Renee

Renee,
It's really hard to judge from your description, but
if you have a patent number you can look it up from
the US Patent Number sight. Put a D before your
patent number when you do your search. You can
google on patent office search. Good Luck.

Hi-I am pretty much a newbie so be patient. I have a lot of odds and
ends that I would like info on. I have some depression glass, I have
some drink glasses, a set of Tom and Jerry glasses ( the drink, not the
cartoon characters). I have two really pretty etched glasses (sailing
ships, shcooners?) mugs.I also have lots of dishes, and other glasses
and cups etc. I was thinking to post pictures and a little bit of the
history of each, if any, to see if members can help. Is that the way to
go about this? I have finally aquired a digital camera so should be
pretty easy. I don't collect anything in particular, stuff just appears
or catches my eye and all of a sudden its in a china cabinet. I will
most likely want to sell some of these items so maybe you all could
help with value. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Carol

Hi everyone,

I, too, am new to this discussion group. It looks like the new year is bringing
a few of us to the group :o) I thought I'd jump in here as well and introduce
myself too. I currently participate in another discussion group on yahoo, the
eapglass group whose focus is my primary collecting interest in glass, early
american pattern glass! I do, however, have a much broader interest in the study
of glass that includes the first kind of glass I collected, depression, and I
inherited much of my mother's collections of Elegant glass, primarily Heisey but
includes Cambridge, Fostoria, Tiffin, Duncan, etc. I also have a "thing" for
more recent glass of 50's, 60's,with the latter decade I would remember from my
childhood.

I belong to an organization, the Questers, and here in Iowa we have a state
glass collection that is housed in the Brunnier Art Museum on Iowa State
University's campus. I chair a state committee that administrates the
development of our collection that includes all glass forms from c. 1840 - 1945.
This collection is supported soley by donations (both monetarily for
acquisitions of glass and by glass object donations). We also will partner with
the museum to host exhibits of glass. So far we've held 2 exhibits; the first
featured glass exhisting in all the museum's collections and the 2nd featured
Brilliant period cut glass. We are currently planning an exhibit on Early
American pressed glass. Future exhibits will potentially be focused on
Depression era glass or specific glass manufacture, such as Carnival glass or
Custard glass or Art glass, etc. So as you might expect, I have the interest in
learning all I can about all types and manufacturers of glass.

If anyone has a specific kind or manufacture of glass and would like to offer
information, I'm eager to "hear". I am willing to try and help those with
identification needs, I've accumulated a fair amount of reference books and will
offer assistance when I can.

Happy New year to all,
Sue

Great to have you in our little group. We've been slow, but I hope to
hear more about everyone's collections. I live 20 miles of Cambridge
Ohio. I've gotten lucky and found a few great Cambridge pieces at
yard sale in the past.

Hi all-I have a friend who has some very ornate items by Capo di monte.
It took a while to find the maker. Don't know anything about them
except that she has had them for a few years and the person she got
them from had them for a few years. She is interested in selling them
but we cannot seem to find out anything about value. Can anyone out
there lend a hand. I have created an album so if you could take a look
and let me know what you think I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance Carol

Capodimonte is not a person, but a technique. You will find more
information here:

www.onlinecollectibles.com

You might also consider posting pics of your pieces on the ebay PGP forum:
http://forums.ebay.com/db2/forum.jspa?forumID=75

There are some very knowledgable people there. You might not get much help here,
since this is a glass group, not porcelain.

Actually Capodimonte is a porcelain company in Italy.
Known for flower forms in different styles, they have made tableware and
other porcelain as well.
They are still in business as evidenced by:

It once meant the Royal Factory at Naples, but there is more than one
factory now using the name, which is now in the public domain, and has
come to refer to a style or technique also. Here's a better version of
the link I provided before (which somehow was truncated when I pasted it):

Thanks for all the input. It was pretty easy to find info on the
company but I still need to find out if it would be worth my friends
time to try to sell the pieces. I went to link that was provided and
wrote to the company in England to see if they might be able to help
identify the pieces, genuine or not. Any other ideas would be
appreciated. I assume that there are collectors of these items as there
are collectors of anything imaginable. Thanks again, Carol

Hi all,

A member of the yahoo EAPG discussion group has posted this photo and I offered
to help by sending it out to this group too. He has no idea who made this and
its a little more contemporary manufacture than EAPG. It looks to be a small
milk jug and/or juice pitcher, perhaps sized to fit the door of a refrig. No
identifying marks other than the bottom has the large star on the bottom. Does
anyone out there know who may have manufactured this and when?

Thanks

Hello Everyone,
I have to apologize. I joined your group a while ago and I never
introduced myself. I really thought I did this but I guess I just got
so busy selling what I love....antiques and collectibles, esp. glass.

Some of you may know me from other groups since I'm on many glass
boards. My name is Diana Ricci aka PsiDi and I help my H with our
store that is on Ebay--TheEstateSaleStore. I live in CT which is in
New England-East Coast. I'm 51, have 4 children, 4 adopted children,
two grandchildren and one on the way. Before, when I worked, I did two
things, Teaching and Engineering. Both my H and I are now retired. We
also have our own site that I started, but haven't had the time to
finish it at www.estatesalestore.com. It basically just links to the
Ebay Store, but I have managed to put a few things into it but not
glass yet.

I've been into Antiques and Collectibles, esp. Glass since I was around
6. I was a nuisance to my mom since I loved to handle her best pieces
and sometimes they'd slip, esp. when someone (like my mom) would sneak
up behind me and catch me. LOL I really don't know why I have this
fascination with glass but the only thing I can think of is my uncanny
knowledge for everything 19th Century and Victorian that I was just
born and never really had to learn it but only enhance it. It must
have been such a great time for me back then that I reincarnated with
the knowledge. {chuckle} My favorite, of course, is EAPG and Am.
Brilliant Cut Glass, as well as some Venetian Glass, Mount Washington,
etc. This is the type of glass I collect, so you'll rarely see me sell
these unless I have extra pieces I don't need from a lot that I've
purchased. All other glass I sell if it's mint to near mint, rare and
worth more than .99 cents.

Well, enough for now. Nice to meet everyone.

Best,
Diana Ricci (PsiDi)

Hi, I'm Lara and I am new to the group. In fact this is my first group
ever. I was a true collector for several years. Glass is my favorite,
especially the glass animals (Heisey, Viking, etc.)and Capri. Of
course I have many other odd pieces mixed in. I also collected
pie/pastry/pasta crimper and cutters, and tea strainers/diffusers. I
really enjoy seeing the different pieces other people have found.
Eventually I hope to find new homes for some of my excess pieces. It
is so easy to get carried away with collecting once you get started!
It looks like I will definitely have to get a digital camera in the
near future. Hope I will be able to learn from and maybe contribute
to this group. Lara

Hi Lara,

Welcome, to the group. I believe you story is quite typical of many of us.
We start out as collectors and then eventually end up selling this stuff in one
way or another. Sometimes because we just end up with too much and sometimes
because our passions change.

When you get a camera, feel free to share and create a folder in the gallery.

Things have been a bit slow on here lately, but maybe that will change some.

I'm Dan from North Carolina. We collect mostly Cambridge and other elegant
patterns. I also sell with a website store, occassionally on eBay and from an
antique mall booth.

the group.

It's ok Sandy. If you look under Links I think, You'll find TinyURL.
It's easy to use, and you can include a link to a pic from there.

Looks more like a person trying to drive people to their website. I wonder
what they would do if someone actually bought the piece? I'll bet they
don't even have it!
And further, there is no way they could possibly know whether a piece is
actually sun purpled or not unless they actually did it themselves to make a
fake.
Not all sun purpled glass is faked. And for someone to say that is just as
wrong as the other side who do it on purpose....
Just my thoughts...;)

Hi Jennifer, all,

Thanks for your response, and I respect your opinion on the topic, honestly :o).

In defense of the Hendersons, I can state, without a doubt, that the Hendersons
do not need to drive, or more or less steer anyone to their website, they get
thousands of hits on a regular basis. They are respectible dealers,
specializing in EAPG and I would not question that they do indeed have this
piece in their possession.

While you are correct in that not all "purpled" glass can be detected as having
occured through many years of exposure to sunlight or artificially, some is
quite obviously altered to the point that it would take hundreds of years to
accomplish the same naturally by the sun. The fact remains that any glass that
has purpled is not glass in its original manufactured state and herein lies the
issue of condition and value. There are some ppl in this world who will do
whatever it takes in deceiving others to make a buck. I do not argue the fact
that there are glass collectors for which sun purpled glass is appealing. Nor
legitimate dealers who come across sun purpled pieces in their buying that they
need to sell to recover costs. In fact, there was quite a craze in collecting
early glass that had sunpurpled in the 50's - 60's; so much so that it was even
promoted and featured in some glass collector magazines articles of those
decades. This seller's intent is to educate those who are duped into purchasing
#1 early glass that has been artificially purpled, #2 brand new glass also
treated in this manner to convince the potential buyer that it is indeed much
older glass and finally and most importantly #3, a purpling of glass originally
manufactured not that color is a condition factor that devalues the object.
Personally, I own some pieces of eapg that has sunpurpled, they are family
pieces that I would not part with for anything. But I also recognize that it
does not hold the value that otherwise original clear pieces would. What
sickens the hearts of those who appreciate early glass is that pristine examples
of glass are being altered/damaged to fill the demand of the few who pursue
buying it. I thought the seller's comparison to the Mona Lisa with a mustache,
although humorous, seriously hit the nail on the head.

Again, I respect Jennifer's response. I think it is healthy to enter into
discussions that promotes different point of views and is intended to pursue
further education.

  Sue
