Sunday, October 2
9:00 am – 6:00 pm

The conference will begin with a meet-and-greet for participants, both American activists and North African leaders. This will be followed by a discussion of the genocide in Sudan, with an analysis of the political environment, humanitarian consequences, and the root causes of the genocide.

Breakout workshops will then be offered to train participants in activism for the year. This includes, but is not limited to, workshops on promoting state and university divestment from companies operating in Sudan; organizing events on campus and in the community at large; shaping the discussion around the genocide with an emphasis on identifying the roots of the problem and understanding the larger picture of slavery and genocide in Sudan; working with the African community in the US to facilitate a shared understanding of the conflict and plan activism for the year.

Speakers will include:
Simon Deng: Associate of the American Anti-Slavery Group and survivor of slavery from Southern Sudan
Nasser Yessa: Co-founder of SOS Slaves and former slave owner from Mauritania
Daowd Salih: Vice Chariman of The Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy and Darfuri refugee
