ANY STAND MEMBER NOT SEEN AT THE DARFUR BENEFIT CONCERT WILL BE PROSECUTED…not really but please come!

PLEASE help John Baker out!

 

5:30-10 concert BE THERE early if you can. John needs people to do the following tomorrow:

1)      Help with setup

2)      Table tomorrow (in Kogan)and/or outside marvin before concert and at door

3)      Security- pretend to be intimidating…you don’t need muscles to help

4)      Clean up- help bands reload, fix room

5)      Random help during the concert- we are all John Baker’s helpers so if he delegates something- listen J

6)      DORM STORM go through dorms/classes EVERYWHERE and pass out flyers. Put the concert on your away message and threaten to break off friendships/relationships if people don’t show up

7)      Where a Darfur shirt of any kind or make your own! Be ready to DANCE

8)      Hospitality work

• Oct 6^th Darfur Fast and Concert begins at 5:30 Marvin Center Continental Ballroom.  Jon Baker to make announcements and beg for help. Email Jon baker jbaker08@... to volunteer to help.   Michaela make resolution announcement. Email micaela@... to help with getting resolution.  Alia and Adaeze announcement if they need help tabling or with press releases.   If you want to help table or do PR for the event email Alia alia@... or Adaeze ada_o@....  PLEASE EVERYONE COME WITH 5 FRIENDS!
• Oct 11^th Darfur Fundraiser 6:30-8:30 PM at the LeftBank 2424 18^th Street NW, we will have a table, volunteers email alia alia@... or Adaeze ada_o@..., We are now co-sponsoring the event and it would be great if we had a strong presence, students are $15.00 and we get a % of all proceeds
• Also Divestment group to make announcement about tabling needs.  Email Cgrubb@... or miller42@... to help table on Oct 10, 11, 17 or 18^th. 
• Justin and Tara are working on our new member/ all about Darfur workshop (there may also be one next semester) Sara Weisman will be bringing tons of food and it will be a great opportunity to learn more about the situation and to learn more about GW STAND, new members strongly encouraged to attend!!! It’s going to be hot.
• Tour to GW- bringing a band here and getting some media coverage for next semester…details coming soon keep brainstorming ideas! (dance-off, fast, drum beating, protests, die-in, white-out) more to come from Natalie when she gets the info

Announcements: 

·        Bracelets $2.00 each

·        Julia has tshirts for people who gave her money, we will let you know when they come in, if you ordered a shirt and still need to pay make sure you give me the money so she can place your order.  If you want to place an order you can buy a shirt on Thursday at the concert save darfur will be selling them

·        Please Please Please pay dues, we ask for $10.00.  We did get more funding from the SAC, $500 for the year but this is not enough to support all of our efforts.   

·        Office hours are as follows Tuesday 3:30-5 and 8-9, Wednesday 1-2, Thursday 3:30-5 Room 440 of the Marvin Center

·        We are working on creating talking points on our organization as well as concise clear goals for STAND. Be thinking about these things in the next few weeks.

 

News:

Meetings began in Nigeria between rebel groups and Sudanese government. Sources say both sides have said they want to work for peace…let’s hope they do just that.
