Student Mobilization for April 6 Darfur Demonstration

Who? Students in the Washington DC Area

Why? As some of you know, Africa Action and a some allies have been
having weekly speak-out vigils at the White House for a couple of
weeks now. We will continue to do so every Wednesday from 5.30 to 6.30
but on Wednesday April 6, we are planning to have a much bigger
demonstration vigil.

April 6 because it is a Wednesday and we'll be having a vigil that
day. April 6 is also the eve of the 11 Year Anniversary of the Rwanda
Genocide. There will also be a lot of students coming into the city
for a Congressional Briefing launching the Genocide Intervention
Fund's 100 Days of Action campaign and lobby day, who will stay for
the demo.

We would like to mobilize students on local campuses and people of
conscience in the DC area to come out for this and getting a lot of
press out for the it. And we can really launch bigger weekly watch on
the White House until they break their relative silence on a crisis
that's killing 10,000 a month.

When? March 23, 2004 at 6:45pm

Where?

Africa Action

DARFUR Poetry Speak-Out Vigil. 3/23 @ White House.

~ PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY ~

:::ACT NOW TO STOP GENOCIDE IN DARFUR :::

Weekly Darfur Speak-Out Vigils at the White House

:::This week will be a poetry-themed speak-out:::

:::featuring Spoken Word Poetry:::

On September 9th, 2004, the President declared the situation in Darfur
to be genocide.
Today, 6 months later, little progress has been made towards
protecting civilians in Darfur and ending the genocide.
To date, up to 400,000 lives have been lost and 2 million people displaced.
Weekly Public Speak-Out Vigil

@

Lafayette Park, in front of the White House

Wednesday, March 23
(AND EVERY WEDNESDAY)

5:30pm – 6:30pm

Come Ready to Speak Your Mind Remind President Bush:

While He Remains Silent About Genocide in Darfur,

YOU Will Not!

SAVE THE DATE: The 11 Year Anniversary of the Rwanda Genocide is in
April. In remembrance of that tragedy in which 800,000 African lives
were lost, we are calling on all people of conscience to join us as
we host a special speak-out vigil on Wednesday, April 6th, the eve of
the anniversary, to ensure that Darfur is not another Rwanda. Not This
Time.

We plan to keep reminding President Bush every week until sufficient
action is taken by the President to stop the genocide in Darfur.

If you are interested in helping to organize weekly vigils or have
ideas for future vigils, please email andumu@....
