Over the last few months VCRI has been contacted by several businesses from around the state. They have been requesting volunteer projects for groups as small as 10 people to as large as 175!
Typically they are looking for things that involve physical labor such as, food or clothing donation sorting, painting, small construction, park/beach clean-ups, playground builds/ renovations and so on.
As you may have guessed, it has been difficult or impossible for us to fulfill their requests for projects or even refer them to agencies that may be able to accommodate them.
Given the current, somewhat restrictive economic situation that many nonprofit and social service agencies find themselves in, connections to and with local businesses may be more important than ever before. Many times, hosting a group of employee volunteers from a local company can generate donations of money as well as their time and talents.
We are requesting that you take a few moments out of your day to meet with your staff or even some of your key volunteers to brainstorm project ideas for groups of one-time volunteers. Maybe something like:
Your facility needs a new coat of paint (inside or out),
How about cleaning out and organizing that crowded storage room or maybe even turning it into a new literacy center, recreation room or office!
How about beautifying the grounds with some new plantings, a decorative fence, bench and bird feeder.
Try to think of things that may not be directly attached to your mission or regular service you provide but would perhaps make your work or service environment a better place.
I would like to create a special listing on our site for these kinds of projects. If you have something please let me know so I can pass the info on to everyone that has contacted us.
Not sure where to start? Click here to get some more project ideas and information on working with business volunteer groups. If you have any questions feel free to email me at lharper@... or call 401.421.6547. I look forward to seeing your projects and helping make more connections for you and your organization.
Sincerely,
Lynne Harper Communications Director The Volunteer Center of Rhode Island
so It's been a very long time since we talked about anything. It
seemed to me by the results of the poll that Colt State Park would be
a relatively good place to meet monthly. Since then, we have failed to
meet in June and July. So I propose we start throwing dates out there
for middle to late August to give everyone time to plan. Let's get
together and get this ball rollin' people!
P.S. sorry If I sounded rude at all but I'm in a very motivated mood
right now!
Hi!
I don't know if anyone in this group knows what's going on, but I'm wondering
the status of the RI conference this year. I would have helped to plan it but I
was in Southern Africa all of last semester. Any updates would be appreciated.
I'd like to help if help is needed.
