Has anyone in this group ever attended the Spring event in Walla Walla, WA?

I would agree with what Dave said.  As a non-pilot who has had a bunch
of flights, I am always a bit worried on take off as I also have a
strong fear of heights.  I would suggest looking out at the horizon
rather than down.  That makes it much easier.
I remember one flight when we came in to land over a railroad yard.
There was a light tower with a 3x3 platform at the top.  I told the
pilot that I would be terrified standing there but was just fine in
the balloon.  He agreed that he sure wouldn't want to be there!

To: Hotair ballooning group. The memberships will grow with that georgous
colorframe at the beginning of the website. Those kaliedocolor balloons caught
my eyes and sold me in an instant! If you can send me information on future
balloon runs I'd appreciate it. Sometime in the future I'd love to set myself
free in one. Thanks and happy ballooning! Sue Barclay St. Clair Shores, Michigan

Some experiences and thoughts in the same area:
I feel safer in an aircraft that on the edge of a high structure or the edge of
a canyou.
It took me less effort to pull the ejection handle than to stand on the end of a
119 and prepare to jump out.

Two questions:

1) Where are you located?

2) If you're in the USA, do you have a private ticket yet?

You must first get your private license and then proceed with training to get
your commercial. That will depend on your instructor as to how he/she evaluates
your skills.

I have a severe fear of heights! I have been at high altitudes in Puerto Ricoon
on mountains and cliffs. I've always wanted to go up in a balloon but my little
phobia has gotten the best of me. It is something I want to do! Anyone have a
suggestion as how to overcome that feeling, I know I would love it if I could
just take the first step.

Has anyone ever been to the Battle Creek (Michigan)International Balloon
Festival? I first flew in that festival back in the late 80's. It's quite a
sight to see so many big balloons up at one time.

Don't worry about it Lee. People don't seem to experience that fear of heights
in a balloon basket. Any balloon pilot will tell you the same and just about
each pilot has a different theory as to why. My own theory is that in a balloon
basket you are suspended below the centre of gravity which gives a sense of
stability and safety.

One small tip when you do go. Don't immediately look straight down, look
towards the middle distance until you think you will be comfortable looking
down.

The only place I know on the net where you can find anything at all
about the Semco dumpers is www.ballooninghistory.com/semco

Needless to say, '60s-era dumpers are pretty thin on the ground these
days, but I really wish you luck! Would love pictures if you actually
find one.

Just do it. I also have a fear of heights. The take off is a bit worrying
