The Mayor and Council will conduct a Public Hearing on Monday, August 3, 2009,
at 7:30 p.m. (prior to the Council Meeting) to allow residents and all
interested parties the opportunity to comment on petitions received from
residents of the 3500/3600 Jefferson Street and the 5600 Block of 36th Avenue
requesting designation as residential parking permit area.

I move that the City Council confirm the Mayor's appointment of the
following residents to the committees as indicated. The terms of the
appointments will be from August 3, 2009 until August 3, 2011, or until the
termination of the committee or task force, if earlier: Code
Enforcement Committee - Mike Adams, 3936 Madison Street (Ward 2); Rob
Howarth, 6103 42nd Place (Ward 3); IT Committee - Carollynn Hammersmith, 6003

Enclosure Construction Contract
I move that the Mayor and Council select and approve the stair enclosure
construction proposal submitted by Lendana Construction Company, at a cost not
to exceed $ 15,545.00, and authorize the City Administrator to execute the
proposal, upon the review for legal sufficiency by the City Attorney. - Gardiner

Motion# 141-08-09 4318 Gallatin Street: Floor Replacement Phase: Steel
Stairway Components Contract Award
I move that the Mayor and Council select and approve the steel stairway
component fabrication and erection proposal submitted by Professional Mechanical
Services Inc. trading as Optimum Welding Services, at a cost not to exceed
$13,850.00, and authorize the City Administrator to execute the proposal, upon
the review for legal sufficiency by the City Attorney. - Gardiner at the Request
of the City Administrator

Motion# 142-08-09 City of Hyattsville: Resolution of Support for the
Hyattsville Community Development Corporation's Community Investment Tax Credit
Application
I move that the Mayor and Council adopt Hyattsville Resolution 2009-05,a
resolution of support required for the submission of a Community Investment Tax
Credit Application. This resolution is contingent upon the review of the City
Attorney. - Gardiner at the Request of the City Administrator


Motion# 145-08-09 Purchase of Refuse Carts
I move that the Mayor and City Council authorize the City Administrator to
purchase refuse carts from Toter Incorporated, using the Fairfax County
Department of Purchasing & Supply Management contract, in an amount
not-to-exceed $15,000.00 for the purchase of 300 wheeled refuse carts. -
Gardiner at the request of the City Administrator


Motion#146-08-09 Authorization to Purchase Four Police Cruisers
I move that the Mayor and Council authorize the Chief of Police to
purchase four (4) 2009 Chevrolet Impala Police cruisers, from Criswell
Chevrolet, at the State of Maryland's Bid Contract prices. The total
cost of the vehicles will be $77,199. - Gardiner at the Request of the
City Administrator


Motion# 144-08-09 Resolution of Support (Hyattsville Resolution 2009-06)for
Enterprise Zone Designation
I move that the Mayor and Council support the inclusion of commercial
areas within the City as part of the County's 2009 Enterprise Zone
application to the State, and adopt a resolution (Hyattsville Resolution
2009-06) stating this support. - Gardiner

tonight, Tuesday, August 4, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Magruder Park.

Tonight's event will feature:

     * A visit from everyone's favorite crime fighter, Spider-Man
     * An appearance by Redskins Cheerleaders
     * Cops versus Kids - 3 on 3 Basketball Competition
     * Moon Bounce and Mandy the Clown
     * Free hot dogs & chips; Prizes and give-aways

And a special thanks to Arrow Bicycle for their assistance with a Bike Rodeo. 
If your kids plan to participate, please have them bring their bikes!

Can't attend?  Leave your porch light on!  It's one of the easiest way to make
our streets more welcoming to our neighbors - and less attractive to criminals.

Join us for a special screening of Kung Fu Panda.  (Rated PG)
Fun begins at 7:30 p.m.  The movie begins at 8:30 p.m.  Bring your blankets and
lawn chairs and watch a movie under the stars!

There is no charge for admission.  Popcorn and other refreshments will be

08-02-09 THEFT FROM AUTO, 3500 blk East West Highway: sometime between 10:00
a.m. and noon, someone broke into a vehicle parked in this area and removed
property.

08-02-09 THEFT FROM AUTO, 3500 blk East West Highway: sometime between 10:30
a.m. and 1:00 p.m., someone broke into a vehicle parked in this area and removed
property.

08-02-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 3:00 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

08-02-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 2:30 p.m., two
suspects were arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

pumping gas. He and another suspect fled in a silver Acura toward DC on Queens

stole the victim's wallet from her shopping cart.

08-03-09 VANDALISM, 5600 blk Baltimore Avenue: at approximately 7:15 p.m., three
unknown suspects attempted to break into a vending machine in this area.  When
unsuccessful, they fled on foot in an unknown direction.

08-03-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 7:45 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

08-03-09 CARJACKING, 6200 blk Belcrest Road: at approximately 10:45 p.m., as the
victim entered her vehicle, she was approached by an unknown suspect. The
suspect put something against her head and told her to get out of the vehicle. 
He then took her cash and fled with two female suspects in the victim's 1998
Saturn. The vehicle was recovered in DC the following day.

08-04-09 THEFT FROM AUTO, 2600 blk Nicholson Street: sometime during the night,
someone broke into a vehicle parked in this area and removed an airbag.

08-04-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 2700 blk Kirkwood Place: sometime during the night,
someone stole a 1995 Ford Crown Victoria that had been parked in this area.

08-04-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 11:30 a.m., someone
stole the victim's cell phone which she had accidentally left on a counter in
the food court.

08-05-09 BURGLARY, 2600 blk Nicholson Street: at approximately 1:00 p.m.,
someone entered the victim's apartment and stole her wallet.

08-05-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 2:00 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a grocery store in this area.

suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

suspect was arrested for trespassing after having been banned from a business in

WEEK OF AUGUST 9, 2009


08-09-09 ASSAULT, 7100 blk Adelphi Road: at approximately 3:30 p.m., the
unconscious victim was found lying on a sidewalk in this area suffering from
severe head trauma. The undamaged vehicle he had been driving was located a
short distance away with the keys in the ignition.

08-09-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 2600 blk Nicholson Street: sometime during the night,
someone stole a 1996 Honda Accord that had been parked in this area. It was
recovered in DC on 8-14-09.

08-09-09 BURGLARY, 3100 blk Madison Street: sometime between 1:00 a.m. and 6:00
a.m., someone entered a home in this area and removed property.

08-09-09 ATTEMPTED VEHICLE THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: sometime between
1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., someone broke into a vehicle parked in this area and
damaged its ignition in an attempt to steal it.

08-09-09 THEFT FROM AUTO, 3500 East West Highway: sometime between 1:00 p.m. and
1:30 p.m., someone entered a vehicle parked in this area and removed the
victim's television system.

08-09-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: sometime between 1:00 p.m.
and 2:00 p.m., someone stole a 1994 Ford Crown Victoria that had been parked in
this area. It was recovered in Capitol Heights on 8-13-09.

08-09-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 8:00 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

08-09-09 ROBBERY, 5600 blk Hamilton Manor Drive: at approximately 10:45 p.m., as
the victim was walking in this area, an unknown suspect approached him and asked
him for a beer.  When the victim refused, the suspect punched him and removed
property from his pockets.

08-10-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 6:45 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

08-11-09 THEFT FROM AUTO, 2600 blk Nicholson Street: sometime during the night,
someone broke into a vehicle parked in this area and removed property.

08-11-09 THEFT FROM AUTO, 6200 blk Belcrest Road: sometime between 8-9-09 and
9:00 a.m. this date, someone broke into a vehicle parked in this area and
removed property.

08-11-09 VANDALISM, 5000 blk 38th Avenue: sometime during the night, someone
flattened two tires on a vehicle parked in this area.

08-11-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 3300 blk Lancer Drive: at approximately 12:30 p.m., an
unknown suspect stole a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup which had been parked with the
keys left on the seat. It was recovered the following day after being stopped
for speeding in the 5600 blk of Ager Road and an arrest was made.

08-11-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 1:30 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

08-11-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 3:30 p.m., while
the victim filled out paperwork at a business in this area, an unknown suspect
grabbed the victim's wallet and fled.

08-11-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 4:45 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

08-11-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 5:00 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

08-11-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 6:45 p.m., two
suspects were arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

08-12-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 3300 blk Stanford Street: sometime between 10:00 p.m. on
8-11-09 and 6:00 a.m. this date, someone stole a 1994 Cadillac that had been
parked in this area.  It was found abandoned in a nearby park with the tires and
wheels missing.

08-11-09 WEAPONS ARREST, 3100 blk Lancer Drive: at approximately 11:45 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for carrying a concealed deadly weapon (machete).

08-12-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 7100 blk Adelphi Road: sometime between 2:30 a.m. and
4:45 a.m., someone stole a 2006 Ford F350 pickup that had been parked in this
area. The vehicle was recovered the following day by the Maryland Park PD.

08-12-09 STOLEN TAG, 5800 blk Baltimore Avenue: sometime during the night,
someone stole the rear tag from a vehicle parked in this area.

08-12-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 12:15 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

08-12-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 4:30 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

08-12-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 7:45 p.m., two
suspects were arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

08-12-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 8:00 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

08-13-09 BURGLARY, 5300 blk 38th Avenue: sometime between 4:45 a.m. and 5:30
a.m., someone entered an apartment in this area and removed property.

08-13-09 BURGLARY, 5800 blk 41st Avenue: at approximately 10:45 a.m., after a
neighbor alerted police of a burglary in progress, a suspect was arrested for
attempting to break into a residence in this area.

08-13-09 CARJACKING, 6200 blk Belcrest Road: at approximately 5:45 p.m., with
the help of an observant citizen, two suspects were arrested after they
carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint in the parking lot of shopping center in this
area. The suspects were positively identified by the victims and a handgun was
recovered.

08-14-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 2800 blk Nicholson Street: sometime between 8-10-09 and
1:30 p.m. this date, someone stole a 1999 Plymouth van that had been parked in
this area.

08-14-09 DRUG ARREST, 5400 blk Baltimore Avenue: just after midnight, a suspect
was arrested for possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

08-14-09 ALCOHOL VIOLATION, 5400 blk Queens Chapel Road: at approximately 6:15
p.m., a suspect was arrested in an alley in this area for drinking in public.

08-15-09 THEFT FROM AUTO, 6200 blk Belcrest Road: sometime between 8:15 p.m. on
8-14-09 and 5:45 p.m. this date, someone broke into a vehicle parked in this
area and removed property.

08-15-09 DISORDERLY CONDUCT / WEAPONS ARRESTS, 4000 blk Madison Street: at
approximately 3:45 a.m., two suspects were arrested after police were called to
a fight in this area.  One suspect was charged with carrying a concealed weapon
(gun) and the other was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and
attempting to escape.

08-15-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: sometime between 1:00 p.m.
and 5:00 p.m., someone stole a 2000 Dodge Intrepid that had been parked in this
area.

08-15-09 THEFT FROM AUTO, 3500 blk East West Highway: sometime between 2:00 p.m.
and 3:45 p.m., someone broke into a vehicle parked in this area and removed
property.

08-16-09 ALCOHOL VIOLATION, Kirkwood Place: at approximately 4:00 a.m., suspect
was arrested for drinking in public.

08-16-09 THEFT, 3000 blk Hamilton Street: at approximately 2:45 p.m., an
employee of a grocery store in this area was arrested after it was found that he
gave a customer groceries without having been paid.

08-16-09 ROBBERY, 38th Avenue Park: at approximately 8:00 p.m., the victim was
beaten and robbed by four unknown suspects as he walked through the park.

08-17-09 THEFT, 4200 blk Jefferson Street: sometime between 8:45 a.m. and 7:45
p.m., someone stole the victim's bicycle from his front porch.

As a reminder, households served by the City of Hyattsville's Household Solid
Waste division will experience an altered trash collection schedule due to next
week's Labor Day holiday on Monday.

Changes are as follows:

Monday, 9/7:  No collections.
Tuesday, 9/8: Households with Monday pick-up will have their household solid
waste collected on Tuesday, 9/8.
Wednesday, 9/9: Households with Tuesday pick-up will have their household solid
waste collected on Wednesday, 9/8.

There is no Yard Waste or White Goods collection, City-wide, on Holiday weeks.

Hyattsville Community Television is filming a video about trash & recycling in
our City on Saturday, September 5 at 1 p.m. and is looking for kids aged 3 to 18
to take part.

Join us at Magruder Park at 1 p.m., in the back parking lot bordering Magruder
Woods.  Kids will be asked to add an item to a Blue County Recycling Toter and
say "You can recycle glass" or "You can recycle plastic."

We ask that any kids wishing to participate: 1) come with a parent or guardian
who can sign a publicity release form and 2) avoid wearing clothing with
prominent logos.

The video will run on Hyattsville Community Television and also posted to
YouTube.  (Kids will be thanked in the credits by first name only.)

I move that the City Council authorize the Mayor to send correspondence to the
Association for International Practical Training (AIPT) stating the City's
commitment to participate in the "Pathways Out of Poverty" grant program.  The
intent of the program is to provide disadvantaged individuals in the community
with apprenticeship opportunities in the "green" industries. – Gardiner at the

Motion# 149-09-09 Opposition to Unpermitted Use in Gateway Arts District
I move that the City Council authorize the Mayor to send correspondence to
M-NCPPC Planning Board stating the City's opposition to the renovation of an
existing building, located at 4709-4713 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, for use
as an 140 seat church, as it does not meet the criteria set forth in the adopted
table of uses for the Gateway Arts District Overlay Zone.  – Gardiner at the

Motion# 152-09-09 Construction Redesign of Police Communications Center
I move that the Mayor and City Council authorize the expenditure of FY2010
budgeted funds not to exceed $20,000 for construction costs to redesign and

08-30-09 STOLEN TAG, 6200 blk Belcrest Road: sometime during the night, someone
stole the temporary tag from a vehicle parked in this area.

08-30-09 THEFT FROM AUTO, 7500 blk Wells Boulevard: sometime between 11:00 p.m.
on 8-29-09 and 2:45 p.m. this date, someone broke into a vehicle parked in this
area and removed property.

08-30-09 VANDALISM, 2600 blk Nicholson Street: sometime between 2:00 a.m. and
3:00 p.m., someone slashed a tire on a vehicle parked in this area.

08-30-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: sometime between 1:30 p.m. and 1:45
p.m., someone stole several gold rings from a jewelry store in this area.

08-30-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 3:00 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

08-30-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 4:30 p.m., two
suspects were arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area. During the
arrest, it was found that they also had stolen merchandise from another store in
the mall.

08-31-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 6800 blk Calverton Drive: sometime during the night,
someone stole a 1994 Honda Accord that had been parked in this area. It was
recovered by PG County Police later that day.

08-31-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 1:00 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area. The suspect was
also found to have an open warrant through the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's
Department.

08-31-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 4:45 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

7:09 p.m., someone stole the temporary tag from a vehicle parked in this area.

09-01-09 THEFT, 3700 blk Jefferson Street: sometime between 8-29-09 and this
date, someone stole a bicycle and a motorbike from the victim's side yard.

09-01-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 5800 blk Queens Chapel Road: sometime between noon on
8-31-09 and 4:30 p.m. this date, someone stole a 1997 Honda Civic that had been
parked in this area. It was recovered in Beltsville the following day.

09-01-09 ATTEMPTED VEHICLE THEFT, 3400 blk Purdue Street: sometime during the
night, someone broke into a vehicle parked in this area and damaged its ignition
in an attempt to steal it.

09-01-09 DISORDERLY CONDUCT, Northwestern High School: at approximately 1:30
p.m., two students were arrested for disorderly conduct.

suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

student was arrested for possession of marijuana.

09-02-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 6500 blk Belcrest Road: sometime between 11:30 a.m. and
5:30 p.m., someone stole a 2008 Honda Fit that had been parked in this area. The
vehicle was recovered a short distance away the following day.

09-02-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 3:15 p.m., two
suspects were arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

09-02-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 3:30 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

09-02-09 ALCOHOL VIOLATION, 5300 blk Ager Road: at approximately 4:15 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for having an open container of alcohol.

09-02-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 3300 blk East West Highway: sometime between 7:00 p.m.
and 8:30 p.m., someone stole a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria that had been parked in
this area.  It was recovered DC on 9-9-09.

and 4:15 p.m., someone broke into a vehicle parked in the school lot and removed
property.

Town" Shop Local Campaign"
I move to authorize the City Administrator enter into an agreement with Prince
George's Suite Magazine for the development and distribution of a Shop Local
Hyattsville Directory at a cost not to exceed $10,000.  The directory will
include a listing of all licensed businesses as of September 1, 2009 and will
provide an opportunity for Hyattsville businesses to partner in the project by
purchasing advertisement space to offset the cost of the publication. The
agreement will be executed upon review and approval by the City Attorney. –

* Candidate registration for the Ward 3 Special Election is ongoing through
Friday, October 2, 2009 at 5:00 p.m.  Special extended registration hours will

* A City Council work session will take place at 7 p.m., followed by the Special

a.m., a suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct.

damaged its ignition in an apparent attempt to steal it.

the Pilot of Once-Weekly Collection of Household Solid Waste.  This is the first
of three Public Meetings to discuss the proposed pilot program to transition

I move that the Mayor and Council send a letter of support to the Prince
George's County Board of Zoning Appeals in reference to variance V-60-09, a
request to validate existing conditions, extend an existing front porch stoop
and construct a driveway in the front yard of 3532 Manorwood Drive, Hyattsville,
Maryland 20782 and direct the City Attorney to amend the City Code related to
impervious surfaces on residential properties to allow exceptions in the case of

I move that the Mayor and Council authorize the Mayor to send correspondence to

Stop due to the on-going investigation of illegal sales. –

Motion# 156-09-09 Partnership Agreement with Prince George's Suite Magazine "Our
Town" Shop Local Campaign" -
I move to authorize the City Administrator enter into an agreement with Prince
George's Suite Magazine for the development and distribution of a Shop Local
Hyattsville Directory at a cost not to exceed $10,000.  The directory will
include a listing of all licensed businesses as of September 1, 2009 and will
provide an opportunity for Hyattsville businesses to partner in the project by
purchasing advertisement space to offset the cost of the publication. The
agreement will be executed upon review and approval by the City Attorney. –

Motion# 158-09-09 (Revised) Proposed Conditions on Four-Way Stop Beer License
Transfer
I move that the Mayor and Council authorize the Mayor to convey to the Board of
License Commissioners the City's opposition to the requested transfer unless the
following conditions are imposed by the Board in the transfer to Mr. Young Keun
Jun:
1. Beer may not be sold before 11 am weekdays and weekends; after 9 pm Sunday
through Thursday; or after 10 pm on Friday and Saturday.
2. No more than 40 percent of the total floor area may be used for selling and
storing beer.
3. There shall be no right, now or in the future, for on-site consumption of
beer.
4. Advertising signs, with the exception of the legally permitted, permanent
store name signs, shall not be permitted in the store windows, exterior walls of
the building, on poles, or in the parking lot, and it shall be easy to see into
and out of the store through the existing windows and doors.
5. Mr. Young Keun Jun shall improve the lighting of the parking lot and
building, so that lighting approximates the current County standards for retail
areas.
6.  Mr. Young Keun Jun will collaborate with the city of Hyattsville's Safe
Cities initiative to improve safety in the area.

In the event the Board agrees to these conditions on the transfer, the City
would support the transfer.

The Council may wish to comment at a later date on whether or not it would
appropriate for Mr. Song Keun Jun to continue employment, and in what capacity
at Four-Way Stop.  These conditions are limited to Mr. Young Keun Jun at this
time only. – Gardiner/ McKnight/ Tartaro/ Hiles

Magruder Park.  Between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., parents and
caregivers can bring their kids' car seats to the park for advice on proper

environmentalist.

Join us for the International Street Festival this Saturday,
September 26!

Bring the entire family to experience a World Within Walking Distance during our
annual International Street Festival.  This year's event takes place on
Saturday, September 26 at Queens Chapel Town Center, Hamilton Street between
Ager Road and Queens Chapel Road, from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m.

This year's lineup features cultural performances from around the world,
children's activities and entertainment, vendors serving up a variety of
delicious food and drinks, information from local nonprofit organizations,
interaction with area artists and a fireworks display at dusk.

CRIME REPORT
WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 13, 2009

09-13-09 THEFT FROM AUTO, 7500 blk Adelphi Road: sometime between 9:00 a.m. and
10:15 a.m., someone entered a vehicle parked in this area and removed property.

09-13-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30
p.m., someone stole the victim's locked bicycle from in front of a grocery store
in this area.

09-14-09 ROBBERY, 3900 blk Hamilton Street: at approximately 5:15 a.m., as the
victim walked in this area, four suspects in a black vehicle approached him,
displayed a knife and demanded money. When the victim attempted to walk away,
one of the suspects exited the vehicle, put the knife to his neck, took his
backpack and returned to the vehicle.  The suspects fled in an unknown
direction.

09-14-09 ATTEMPTED ROBBERY, 3000 blk Lancer Place: at approximately 5:30 a.m.,
as the victim was getting into his truck, he was approached by a light blue van
which was occupied by two unknown suspects.   The driver pointed a handgun at
the victim and demanded cash.  The victim ran into his residence and the
suspects fled on 31st Avenue.

09-14-09 BURGLARY, 4200 blk East West Highway: sometime between 9:30 a.m. and
3:45 p.m., someone broke into a residence in this area and attempted to steal
property.  Property had been gathered near the front door, but apparently the
suspect(s) fled when the resident returned to the home.

09-14-09 TRESPASSING, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 4:00 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for trespassing after having been banned from the mall
property.

09-14-09 ATTEMPTED ROBBERY, 6200 blk Belcrest Road: at approximately 7:00 p.m.,
a suspect was arrested after he approached the victim and attempted to steal her
purse.  A struggle ensued at which time the victim sprayed the suspect with
pepper spray and he was subsequently arrested.

09-15-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 3900 blk Madison Street: sometime during the night,
someone stole a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria that had been parked in this area. It
was recovered in DC later that day.

09-15-09 BURGLARY, 3500 blk East West Highway: sometime during the night,
someone broke into a business in this area by breaking a large window and
removed property.

09-15-09 BURGLARY, 2700 blk Nicholson Street: sometime between 10:30 a.m. and
5:30 p.m., someone entered an apartment in this area and removed property.

09-15-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 1:15 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

09-15-09 BURGLARY, 5700 blk 29th Avenue: sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30
p.m., someone entered an apartment in this area and removed property.

09-16-09 BURGLARY, 5800 blk Baltimore Avenue: at approximately 3:30 a.m.,
someone broke into a business in this area by breaking the front door glass and
removed property.

09-16-09 BURGLARY, 3600 blk Gallatin Street: sometime between 5:30 a.m. and 8:00
p.m., someone entered an apartment in this area and removed property.

09-16-09 DISORDERLY CONDUCT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 11:30
a.m., two suspects were arrested for disorderly conduct.

09-16-09 DISORDERLY CONDUCT, 6700 blk Belcrest Road: at approximately 4:45 p.m.,
two suspects were arrested for disorderly conduct.  It was subsequently found
that one of the suspects had several open warrants through PG and Montgomery
counties.

09-16-09 VANDALISM TO AUTO, 3500 blk East West Highway: sometime between 6:30
p.m. and 8:30 p.m., someone vandalized the victim's vehicle while parked in this
area.

09-17-09 THEFT, 5100 blk Baltimore Avenue: at approximately 3:45 p.m., a suspect
was arrested after he stole 2 bicycles from a store in this area.

09-17-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 5:15 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a grocery store in this area.

09-17-09 THEFT FROM AUTO, 5100 blk Baltimore Avenue: sometime between 8:30 p.m.
and 10:00 p.m., someone broke into a vehicle parked in this area and removed
property.

09-17-09 ALCOHOL VIOLATION, 3000 blk Hamilton Street: at approximately 11:00
p.m., a suspect was arrested for carrying an open container of alcohol.  It was
subsequently found that the suspect had an open warrant through PG County.

09-18-09 VEHICLE THEFT, 2700 blk Kirkwood Place: sometime between 7-2-09 and
this date, someone stole the victim's 1998 Toyota Corolla while he was out of
the country.

09-18-09 THEFT FROM AUTO, 7300 blk Wells Boulevard: sometime between 9-16-09 and
this date, someone broke into a vehicle parked in this area and removed
property.

09-18-09 VANDALISM, 5700 blk Baltimore Avenue: sometime between midnight and
6:00 a.m., someone used a BB gun to break two windows in this area.

09-18-09 VANDALISM, 5300 blk 38th Avenue: sometime between midnight and 6:30
a.m., someone used a BB gun to break a vehicle window in this area.

09-18-09 VANDALISM, 5500 blk 39th Avenue: sometime between midnight and 8:15
a.m., someone used a BB gun to break a vehicle window in this area.

09-18-09 THEFT FROM AUTO, 3100 blk Gumwood Drive: sometime between midnight and
1:30 a.m., someone broke into a vehicle parked in this area and removed
property.

09-18-09 ATTEMPTED VEHICLE THEFT, 3200 blk Gumwood Drive: at approximately 2:00
a.m., it was found that someone had broken into a vehicle parked in this area
and damaged its ignition in an apparent attempt to steal it.

09-18-09 VANDALISM, 4800 blk 42nd Avenue: sometime during the night, someone
broke out a vehicle window in this area.

09-18-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 4:00 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

09-19-09 BURGLARY, 3600 blk Gallatin Street: at approximately 2:45 p.m., an
unknown suspect entered an apartment in this area and removed property.

09-19-09 THEFT, 2900 blk Belcrest Center Drive: at approximately 4:00 p.m., an
unknown suspect stole merchandise from a store in this area and fled in an
unknown direction.

09-19-09 THEFT, 3500 blk East West Highway: at approximately 4:30 p.m., a
suspect was arrested for shoplifting from a store in this area.

09-19-09 ROBBERY, 4200 blk Queensbury Road: at approximately 7:30 p.m., as the
victim was about to enter her residence, an unknown suspect threw her to the
ground, took her purse and fled toward Baltimore Avenue.

The City of Hyattsville will be busy with three events on Saturday, September
26.

*** Remember, street closures and detours will begin in the Queens Chapel Town
Center area as early as 11 a.m. on Saturday to prepare for the International
Street Festival.  Closures and detours will be in effect until after the
Festival's conclusion Saturday evening.

Saturday, 9/26
* Celebrate National Public Lands Day with a volunteer project at Magruder Park.
Volunteers 14 and up are invited to take place in a Park Clean-up from 9:00 a.m.
until 12 noon. For details or to register, please contact Colleen Aistis at

* Magruder Park is also the site for our 12:30 p.m. Rededication of the Trumbule
Trail. Thanks to hundreds of volunteer hours, the trail has been restored and
improved. Join us at Magruder Park to thank the volunteers for their hard work
and commemorate the legacy of the late Robert Trumbule, a local leader and
environmentalist.

Jefferson.  Traffic is being rerouted through the neighborhood.  Please use
