Ignorance + Fear = Religion

The purpose of this group is to open dialogue and create a safe place for people with philosophies & ideologies which are not constrained by dogma. It is particularly targeted at people who understand religion or theist ideas as being harmful, detrimental, & oppressive. This group is labeled as “Iconoclastic”, but members may consider themselves: Atheist, Anti-Theist, Nontheist, FreeThinkers, Infidel, Heathen, Agnostic, Deist, Humanist, Rationalist, Skeptic, Secularist, Existentialist, etc.

As people of color as well as Same-Gender-Loving & Gender-Nonconformists (Transgender, Transgendered, Intersex, Two-sprit) people, we are already faced with intolerance & discrimination based on color, ethnicity, nationality, gender, & sexuality. Most of the American anti-diversity rhetoric is religion-based, particularly Xianity (Christianity). Too many good people in our communities have been detrimentally affected by hate & bigotry fueled by religion. It is time for us to work towards having a more progressive society, for the benefit of the religious & irreligious alike. We can no longer afford to let religious fundamentalism divide & conquer us. It is crucial that there is a Separation of Church & State. It is also important that we stop living in fear of supernatural forces that people think wish to harm us and start fighting the Earthly ones we know are harming us.

Topics of discussion include raising Atheist/religion-free children, the psychology of religion, and dealing with ignorance & prejudice directed towards non-religious people.

Remember that "belief" is the acceptance of something as fact without any evidence to support it. So never beLIEve anything!
