Description

Welcome to the Integral Ecology Discussion Group. This group arose from an Integral Ecology class taught by Sean Hargens through the California Institute of Integral Studies in the fall of 2003.

What is Integral Ecology? There are numerous approaches to the environment -- philosophical, spiritual, scientific, psychological -- and each one highlights an essential component while remaining largely silent concerning other dimensions. To overcome this fragmentation, Integral Ecology provides a way of weaving all approaches into an environmental mandala, an ecology of ecologies.

Integral Ecology makes use of Ken Wilber’s "all-quadrant, all-level" model. This approach, led by Sean Hargens and Michael Zimmerman, allows for a comprehensive understanding of how myriad eco-philosophies and strategies can be brought together into a unified front, informing and complementing each other.

In addition, Integral Ecology brings into relief the difficulties that can arise from an over-dependence on any single approach divorced from an understanding of developmental dynamics in both individuals and cultures.
