I propose we start a 1%er's club for JMRI. Its simple and all you need to do
is try to keep track of what you spend on your Railroad and donate 1% of that to
JMRI.

Looking thru my credit cards, I would donate only $10.00 so far this year.

Well guys,

followed up on all the advice given on this group and on DEMU forum - thanks to
everyone who made suggestions!

Eventually tracked the problem to the miriad of networks picked up by the laptop
serving the layout and the iphone.

Solved the problem by manually "forgetting" all the networks picked up by the
iphone and manually "disconnecting" all the networks picked up by the laptop.

This doesn't explain why other JMRI/iphone users seem able to connect their
layout laptop and iphone without problems, surely their laptops and iphones pick
up other networks - how come they remain connected while my system didn't?

Hi Walt,

In my case the answer to every question is yes. I'm not sure what I've spent on
my railroad this year, and I'm not sure I really WANT to know, but I made an
intelligent guess and just sent in 1% of that via PayPal. I would also like to
personally thank all the individuals that put their hard work into the
development of this program and also spend the time to support it on this list.
You all are great.

Louis,

What are you trying to program? Locomotives or stationary devices?

I use NCE to run my trains, the connection is set up as no1, and I
program my locomotives with it.
I use LocoNet to operate my block detection, signals, and turnouts,
and the connection is set up as no2. These I 'program' or set up by
using the JMRI turnout control window under the tools menu and
pressing the appropriate opsw or addr button on the Digitrax boards
to set the board in the proper mode (per the manual). You can also
use the tools under the LocoNet menu to 'program' some functions on
LocoNet boards after the board address has been set. (I don't leave
any board at the default address.)

Thus, you don't have to change the connection number back and forth
to program the LocoNet if it is not running Locomotives.

Hope this helps.
Elmer.

I am all for it but as mentioned we would need to know the process.

I have been using this software for years and I don't think my hobby time
would be anywhere near what it is if I had to know the cv values for
programming one at a time. Decoderpro has helped immensely.

I am far from an expert using Decoderpro and am not the best person to do
any workshops but I use it in conjunction with a program oval during shows
and have many folks ask me what its about. After they see how much easier
programming is this way they go looking for an interface at the show we are
at.

I am about to start looking into the operations features so I can do away
with car cards to. I have RailOp have not taken the time to learn it after
running into some concerns like having to trick the software into yard
operations. I hope the JMRI operations does not need to be massaged into
working correctly. I plan to get it up and running to manage my home and my
groups show layouts.

A technical discussion follows for the benefit of those who've run into the
problem I did on routing programming commands with a dual NCE/LocoNet
installation using JMRI Production Release 2.10. This will only affect a handful
of people for the next few weeks or months, so don't let it scare anyone away
from setting up a standalone LocoNet.

----------------------------------------

On our LocoNet we currently utilize RR-Circuits TC-64's which look for their
programming commands from the LocoNet and Team Digital SRC-16's/SMC4's which are
programmed via the DCC rail. Both sets of devices are programmed using the OPS
mode programmer.

JMRI is currently in the middle of adding the ability to easily reroute the
programming commands as needed on multiple layout systems. At this exact moment,
things are a bit tricky for our mix of hardware on a dual NCE/LocoNet
installation. For anyone else who may face this situation it's not that hard to
put together a workaround while the developers continue their work.

We have 4 Layout Connections in the following order - LocoNet, C/MRI, Maple and
NCE. Traditionally this arrangement would route the programming commands to the
NCE layout connection, however the current JMRI 2.10 Production Release directs
the Programming traffic by default to the LocoNet with no way I can find to
change it via the GUI (this only takes effect when you save the Preferences in
2.10, if you have preferences you've brought over from an older version things
work as they traditionally have). This works out great for programming the
TC-64's, but what to do about locos and the Team Digital hardware?

JMRI has seperate Preferences for each icon, so with the standard installation
you can have 2 sets of Preferences - one associated with the PanelPro icon and
another with the DecoderPro icon (you can make it 3 if you have the installer
setup a SoundPro icon as well).

At our club I use the DecoderPro icon when I need to program a LocoNet device,
as I've left these Preferences setup with the default 2.10 arrangement. For the
PanelPro icon I've hand edited the PanelProConfig2.xml file to remove the part
that directs the Programming traffic to the LocoNet

<managerdefaults class="jmri.managers.configurexml.ManagerDefaultSelectorXml">
   <setting>
     <key>jmri.ProgrammerManager</key>
     <value>LocoNet</value>
   </setting>
</managerdefaults>

It's easiest to do this with any number of free XML editors (I use XML Marker
1.1), but in this case the file isn't very long so Notepad can handle it without
too much fuss. Remove only the indicated lines without disturbing the rest and
save the file. If something goes wrong, just resave the Preferences in JMRI and
try again.

Of course the ultimate intent is to make this a mouse thing, not a dig out the
XML/text editor thing. No doubt over the course of the next few test releases
things will greatly improve when it comes to directing programming commands on a
dual NCE/LocoNet setup.

Hi Walt,

First and foremost, JMRI has done more for the DCC part of this hobby than the
NMRA. This group's membership is the most active one that I belong to. Without
JMRI, I would have never gotten my non-DCC signaling system working with my DCC
accessories.

Normally all I ever do is program a new address for non-sound decoders, so the
answer to that is no. I use QSI Programmer for sound decoders but I help the
Keystone Model Railroad Club set up their Digitrax boosters with the Digitrax
tools.

Friends,

Recently, Kalmbach has shut down the model railroad magazine index. If you want
details, log into their site. The index was OLD technology and Kalmbach offered
it as a free service. Maintenance and security became an issue.

A lot of folks were unhappy about it because there is no other place to look for
articles in varied publications AND out of print magazines.

John Fugate od Model Railroad Hobbyist Magazine (digital magazine) has come up
with a solution. Obviously, the database needs to be brought into the 21st
Century. It requires a complete update in both programming and internet
accessibility.

If anyone on this group is interested or knows someone that might be qualified
to be part of the effort, the contact information is in the quoted message
below. Please pass this information along to any other group you think might be
able to help.

I have used the index a few times in the past while doing research on a project.
It is worth saving.

Apologies for the OT post.

Model Railroad Index: Update and call for leadership

Posted on the Model Railroad Hobbyist discussion board is the latest from Joe
Fugate:

(start quote)
Okay, the next step is to solicit "resumes" for someone to lead this effort. I
have the ability, but I don't have the time. I'm willing to help get the
organization effort started and then hand it off to someone willing and able to
lead the charge.

So consider this the official notice for resumes of those willing to lead this
initiative. Use the "contact us" section on this site and notify us using the
other option - and hand your resume to me. I will collect the resumes and decide
on a lead for this effort and officially hand it off to them.

Please post to other boards and forums that we're looking for someone to lead
this effort and that we're accepting resumes. This is a totally volunteer
effort, and the idea is whether or not Kalmbach agrees to release the assets, we
will stand up a comprehensive model railroading magazine index and turn it over
to the NMRA.

The NMRA has agreed the resulting index will be publically available to all and
not behind a login, which I believe is a key goal of this effort. The index must
not be a propriety offering and it must remain forever freely available to all.
(end quote)

Here is the thread for the discussion:

http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/discountinued_mag_index?page=8#comment-23966

I'm glad to see that this continues to move forward. I'm optimistic that one way
or the other, we will have a Model Railroad Magazine Index back and open to all
users.

I personally don't have any more information than what I cross-posted above, so
it would be better to direct any specific questions to Joe via the MRH contact
page.

I doubt you can get an absolute answer as to why you had problems, while so many
others did not.

In my own situation---I had no problems with my WiThrottle at all.
I have numerous wireless networks in my area. All are secured, as is mine. I
use a fixed constant routine to connect my WiThrottle and always do it manually.
That's the best I can offer.

Nick,
This was discussed on a few lists last month. It apparently has
been donated to the NMRA and they will work on updating it and decide

Um, Jon,

While what you say is true, what Nick posted was a follow-up - volunteers
are now being solicited to be involved in the necessary extraction of the
data from the existing format and the development of the new database.
Nick's quote of messages from the Model Railroad Hobbyist site details the
next steps to be taken in making this resource once again available.

Hello Group

I'm just getting started with PanelPro using the Clinic presented by Dave
Duchamp at the 2008 NMRA convention. About page 43, when the simulated train was
to make two laps, all that happened was the siding turned red and the memory
label showed the 'train'.

There is a reference to 'Our Logix' which leads me to believe the clinic
computers were preloaded with a Logix table. At this point my table is empty.

Can someone provide the table or direct me to a source.

I downloaded a version that enabled me to apply photos to each of the locos on
my roster, since then I downloaded a newer version, and now it does not have
that ability any longer....what gives? I liked that ability to add the photos!

Your probably set to use the comprehensive programmer. Switch to the Advanced
programmer (you can do that in your preferences to make it stick).

Hi All,

I've published another update for Engine Driver Throttle for Android (v0.9).
This version adds selection of locos by roster entry. If the selected roster
entry has a function mapping, that mapping is used for that loco on the throttle
screen (in addition to the default mapping which can still be maintained on the
device).

You can see screenshots and download the binary at
http://enginedriver.rrclubs.org.

As always, any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

One of the quickest ways to find something on the JMRI website is to use it's
search feature located on the top right of all (or most pages).

Subject: Delaying enable of Logix??

I've got a panel that I added sound effects to (relay sounds for when you hit
the code button on the CTC panel) and it seems the system gives a very odd burst
of noise, like it is trying to do all the sounds all at the same time.

My questions are:

1. Have others run into this??
2. Is there a way to 'delay' the enable of just the sound output??
3. Or maybe start with Logix off, and then in a script, enable one Logix at a
time in a script with a short delay between each??

I think having the option of "delayed play audio file" is the best route
here...
