OK my links in Links > Other Shows are dead, apologies.
As I have said many times before, files uploaded to these 'free' on-line storage facilities get deleted if they are not downloaded for a set period of time.
I don't think they do if you pay for an account, however I do not pay.

As I have also said before, in my experience, the only files that do not get deleted are zip archives on MediaFire.

When I get a few minutes I'll zip up some News Quiz episodes and upload them to MediaFire, hope you can deal with zip files OK.

Hello! I'm staying out of the Kenneth Williams discussion (his "real" life just makes me sad for him), so I thought I would ask if there are any viable links for The News Quiz.

The ones in the "Links> Other Shows" are dead, and i have gotten hooked since it travelled down through Itunes with Gyles Brandreth's episode. :)

Thanks so much! Now back to the Kenneth Williams debate. :D

Hi Don!

I do the same thing with any of my uploads, I see no reason to pay for it if I
can get some storage free. :)I hope my message didn't come across as offensive,
it's not at all what I meant. My sincere apologies if it did

I do appreciate the re uploads very much! I have been enjoying what I can get
from itunes.

Again, thank you so much!!!

Hi Jeanette
I didn't take it negatively at all; indeed, thanks for the heads-up.
I went through all my links at Dean's request many moons ago due to dead ones, looks like more are now dead.
Long live zip files on MediaFire.

I have to bear much of the responsibility for the spreading of this story. Years ago I mentioned on the website that a woman guest had walked out of a recording once because they were upset by Kenneth’s remarks. I used to regularly receive requests for more details which I politely declined for some time. But one day I let the cat out of the bag and rather wish I hadn’t. Why? Because I’m a journalist by profession and try not to make factual claims that I wouldn’t be prepared to print under my name in a newspaper or air on the radio. I don’t think my claim about Nyree Dawn Porter quite meets that test and if I were publishing this in the paper, I would want to check it a bit more.

But with that proviso, I’d say this – I would be happy to say that an incident like this did occur, ie, a walk-out by a woman guest. It is mentioned in one of the books about Kenneth and in some of the obits that were written about him in 1988, and in other places. It also happens to explain the odd number of recordings in the fourth season.

My information that it was Nyree comes second-hand. But it is a very good source – you would be impressed if I named the person, who was present at the recording. But I don’t have that person’s permission to name them, so I won’t. Still, memories can play tricks over the years, hence my saying it’s not quite as definite as the fact that there was a walk-out.

For those who say that she seems thick-skinned and/or that everyone knew that Kenneth was just performing... I’m a very amiable polite person, but in my working career I have been in situations where people burst into tears because of things I said. I’ve been in tears because of things said to me once or twice. It may be just not the words – sometimes people have had a bad day – the cat’s died, they’ve had a bad argument with their partner, they’ve missed out on a major part, they couldn’t sleep the previous night, they’ve got a throbbing wisdom tooth. I think it is quite possible for anyone to suddenly think they are just not in the right mood to take part in a light-hearted game.

As for Kenneth, yes, as someone said in the thread, 90 percent of his antics were for fun. Russell Davies says in the foreword to the diaries that Kenneth was more likely to fall into a sullen silence and only speak when he was asked to, if he was seriously annoyed with something.

Nevertheless, there isn’t much doubt that Kenneth could be difficult, both professionally and personally. Professionally he did very little serious work in the last 10 to 15 years of his life because he was known as difficult to work with. Personally most of his friends say he could be terribly rude and offensive to people.

So I don’t have the same doubts that the two Stevens have.

I should hate to think this was true!

It sounds unlikely. Lots of women who appeared less thick-skinned than NDP
(such as Aimi Macdonald for instance) coped rather well with Kenneth's
tirades.

Dean, as the most knowledgeable person regarding the Just A Minute series,
do you happen to know (a) if such a thing did happen, and (b) if the person
concerned was actually Nyree Dawn Porter?

Sadly, Nyree isn't in a position to sue, whatever we say in public or in
print now. If only she was...

I was actually booked to see her, live at the Ambassador's in Woking, and
looking forward to the play she was touring in. I was devastated when she
died the week before the tour reached Woking.

You hadn't mentioned that this incident occured so early on in the life of
'Just A Minute', something which makes me revise my original opinion. I can
understand that in the early days, when the show wasn't as well known as it
later became, a guest panellist might not be aware that Kenneth Williams
didn't always mean the things he said on the show.

Anyway, many thanks for clarifying the events in question.

Steve

Paul Merton, Tony Hawks, Kit Hesketh-Harvey and Alun Cochrane are the panellists
for this, the first of the new series of Just a Minute.

This is the long-running panel game which tests whether people have the gift of
the gab. Panellists try to speak on a given subject without hesitation,
repetition or deviation. Much more difficult than it sounds...

The suave and usually unflappable Nicholas Parsons is chairman as ever. Today
the panellists struggle with a huge range of subjects as diverse as My First
Kiss, Conkers and Having a Duvet Day.

This show comes from The Quays Theatre at The Lowry Centre in Salford

Another good show Kevin Eldon was in is ElvenQuest - which was a funny radio
spoof on Lord of the Rings type programmes. I'd upload it to the site but don't
know how. But can recommend it. Kevin Eldon played 2 characters, Dean, the
closeted gay dwarf, and Kreech, the evil sidekick of the villian. It's probably
not everyone's cup of tea, but I found it very funny. For anyone who knows
Elvenquest, the second series is starting next week on Radio 4 on 18th November

Some numbers that may be of interest.

* this year, 2010, the BBC, will have aired 26 fresh radio episodes of JAM. This is the highest number since 1973 when 32 shows were put to air. There were also 26 shows in 1975.

I suspect this will be a temporary blip caused by the transition from 2 longish seasons to 3 shorter ones. But still... 26 weeks of the year we had fresh jam. A very good number.

* Later this season, Claire Jones will pass Sir David Hatch to become the show’s most prolific producer. Claire has produced the show, on and off, for 10 years. If not quite as influential as Sir David, it’s been her job to adjust to the deaths of Derek, Peter and Clement.

* In three weeks there will have been 750 radio editions, and a couple of weeks later there will have been 800 JAMs in total – including the TV versions. As Nicholas has never missed a show, that will also be his 800th appearance.

* Paul Merton also passes 250 shows this season.

We’re still a week and a bit away from the November 22nd recording. I’m tipping a panel of Paul, Gyles, Graham and a woman, perhaps someone new. I know they have been trying to convince Jo Brand to do the show. If not her, maybe Josie Lawrence or Suki Webster or Josie Long?

(Sorry for the empty reply- Hit the wrong button)

I have the first series and can upload if no one else has.
I found it first of all on a sharing site and some of it is a bit 'blurry' and
does that digital compressed thing. I bought it from Audible too when I had
extra credits but I confess to not having listened to it - I'm scared it will
be 'tidied up' and all the intros etc taken out.

HOWEVER
Kevin Eldon is my new hero. Dean, the closet-gay dwarf, is hilarious and his
Creech character interacting very well with the Lord Darkness - played by
Alistair McGowan -and is very well done. (They almost talk over each other, the
way that you would do in a real life conversation.)

I had tickets to go and see the first 4 episodes being recorded but due to other
things, I had to let them go. Gutted is not the word. I wrote to the BBC the
other week to ask when it was being aired and they told me it hadn't been
decided yet.

SO Andrew, you are my new hero for coming up with a date. :-)

Kirsty

Dean, seriously: You should mail these numbers to both Claire Jones and Nicolas. They may not be aware of this, and may indeed make a number(!) out of it during the upcoming recordings...!

Den 11. nov. 2010 00:49, skrev Dean:

I am now uploading series 1 to Mediafire.
I will send links (I had to split between 2 x zip files due to size restriction of free accounts) when it's done.

Don, thank you very much :-D

I was working on it, but I got stuck in making my Audible .aa files into MP3s.
If anyone has any hints or links to a good tutorial, I'd appreciate that.
Kirsty.

Audibles .aa format is a file format with embedded copy protection management. A general, failsafe way of "removing" any such protections (audio as well as video) is simply to direct the output from a player to file instead of hardware.

But there's software that converts your Audible files. A search on wikipedia returned a handful suggestions I bet all are easy to use: TuneBite, SoundTaxi, Daniusoft Media Converter Ultimate, NoteCable (sound recording) and Phantom Burner, NoteBurner, Tune4Mac (virtual CD burning).

Many many thanks Don - very much appreciated as always. Do you happen to have
any slightly earlier series, say c2003-2006? With Hoggart still in the chair?
Sorry to burden you with this, but if you have a preferred charity I'd be happy
to donate - perhaps the BDCA (Bikerdoncyclist Appeal)!
