Club Founder Jackie Jackson: "Because initially there was no local source specifically for info on local Kurdish events, I opened up this Yahoo club to feature events, activities, info for Kurds moving into the Oregon area and for non-Kurds similarly interested in this info.
I'm a 62 year old American woman (native Portlander) who lived in Iran for awhile and then did some graduate study in Ankara, Turkey. (I speak some very rusty Farsi and Turkish.) While in Iran I visited the Sanadaj area and while in Turkey I visited the Nizip area of S.E. Turkey. I very much enjoyed scenic bus travels on TBT autobus between Ankara and Tehran and other smaller bus trips into Kurdish areas of both countries and staying with a Kurdish family in SE Turkey.
Several years ago I enjoyed the Kurdish Kamkars performance here in Portland. I look foward to an increase in Kurdish cultural activity in Oregon to be enjoyed by both Kurds and culturally interested non-Kurds.
